Came here twice in the same week back to back to support my alma mater - our UVa Club of Alexandria hosted a watch party to cheer on our Wahoos in basketball. Upon entering the restaurant, first impression was that it was clean compared to other sports bars. We reserved the private room which was comfortable. Usually when I frequent sports bars, I have a hard time finding something on the menu that I find appetizing. Well, not here! I've been a fan of mushrooms since childhood and so the mushroom ravioli stood out to me and it was delicious! It's a hefty portion if you add additional protein. Too bad I forgot my to-go container and noticed when I was nearly home :( I tried my friend's Fish & Chips which were equally delicious and perfectly crispy. I'll come back to get my own plate of Fish & Chips and French Onion Soup. The White Russian was especially well-done. They also had St. Patrick's Day specials and while I don't think I would try the Sparkling Shamrock in the future though enjoyed that they had fun options to try. I also am appreciative that there are a handful of non-alcoholic options for someone like me who gets easily flushed. This was my first non-alcoholic beer I've tried and am a fan. The restroom is a bit awkward; upon entering the women's restroom, there is only a single stall and not sure if there is a lock mechanism - anyone can enter and could enter the stall if you aren't holding the stall door restroom. We came here for Easter 2025 brunch buffet. This is our third Easter brunch at Ramparts. It's pretty good and I can recommend it. The ambience is comfortable and tranquil in the dining room. If there was music playing, it was unobtrusive. I'm not sure if they have brunch buffets on other holidays. The brunch food items are good. Breakfast items are available, like French Toast, waffles, bagels/cream cheese, bacon and sausage. There's also an omelet station. I liked all the dishes with the exception of the sauce on the ham, well, its flavor was not great. Lunch/dinner items include salmon, shrimp, chicken and beef medallions. Ramparts has several sides including biscuits, muffins, steamed vegetables and tossed salad. I love the dessert bar and especially like the macarons. Unfortunately, on this Easter, the self-serve ice cream machine conked out and if you wanted ice cream to go along with a gazillion different toppings, you had to get a staffer to go to the kitchen and scoop you a bowl. The substitute vanilla ice cream was excellent. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. However, some of the young staff are inexperienced and need more training on how to behave around customers. That would include these guys learning that it's not kosher to load up your own plates and stand there, holding your plates and chit chatting with each other, obliviously blocking customer access to the food. This sandwich was so good! Crispy bread, and sweet aioli complimented it well. Their fries are tossed in Cajun seasoning which added a little bit of bite. Our service did start off as good but slowed down quite a bit after we got our food, resulting in my coworker not being able to order another item she wanted and waters empty. What a lovely neighborhood restaurant! When we came by on a Saturday evening in January, the restaurant was packed and quite cozy. Definitely make a reservation! We heard great things about the martinis, and they did not disappoint! I tried a espresso martini and a dirty martini - both were delicious and quite a steal at $8 per martini! For appetizers, we split the shrimp kickers and the bourbon bacon brie. The shrimp kickers was described as SPICY and they delivered a throat clearing spiciness! I loved the cheesy grits that accompanied the shrimp. The bourbon bacon brie was decadent and yummy as well. For the main, I had the mushroom ravioli. So good! I am a big mushroom fan and this was a celebration of umami flavors. This restaurant is such a steal for quality and price point. Ramparts has a private room and I decided to reserve it for a birthday celebration. It holds about 24 people comfortably. It was a wonderful experience! The manager met me and our guests at the door and showed us where the room was. A very nice large computer screen said, Happy Birthday Bonnie. A small table was set up for us with plates and forks to bring in our own cake at no charge from Ramparts. That also had a nice lighted happy birthday sign. All of this made the ambiance very nice and it was great to be in a separate quiet place. Everyone bought their own food and my husband paid for individual champaign bottles for those who wanted it. The wait staff was very attentive and happily did separate checks. We all ordered off the menu and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. We come in almost every week for trivia. The food is always good and the ambiance is great. I will say that the service does tend to depend on if you're a regular, especially if they're very busy (like on trivia night). It can seem like such a cliche' when someone compares a bar/restaurant to "Cheers"...all the usual platitudes and aphorisms come to mind: "Staff treats you like a lifelong friend!" Well, I'm happy to say that with Ramparts, this is definitely not the case. A long standing Fairlington institution, Ramparts is a classic neighborhood joint, offering largely American fare, with an eye toward consistency and a fair value for money. There are daily M-F specials for burgers, tacos, wings, BBQ, and seafood, and monthly specials as well. Factor in a terrific M-F 4-7 happy hour and NFL/other sports game day specials, too. There are two options for diners, the sports bar side with a large bar, booths, and high tops, plus a separate area more suited for dining and families (also boasting a decent sized bar). I recommend their salads (the Cobb salad is especially good), wings, fried catfish, and burgers. Also, the happy hour buffalo salmon BLT sandwich is an amazing deal for $8. Service is attentive, friendly, and welcoming whether you are a regular or a first timer. Stopped by after shopping in the area, we wanted a place to grab lunch. Saw their menu out front and a server was outside on his break. He told us half the restaurant was like a sports bar with a calmer, dining area on the other side, same menu in both areas. We choose to eat in the dining area which was a bit quieter for conversations. Interior was very homey and gave off a comfortable vibe. Waitress told us to seat ourselves then took our drink orders. Bartender brought my sangria and took our food orders. I got a signature burger with mushrooms and farmhouse side salad, husband got the club sandwich with pasta salad. Salad was refreshing with a mix of arugula and greens and my burger reminded me of homestye burgers, massive and kinda gravy. Ended up needing boxes to take half our orders with us. Brought my daughter here for a quick mommy-daughter lunch date the other day. It was a great, delicious and low key meal. She got the grilled cheese kids meal and I ordered the Cobb salad with crispy chicken. It might've been the best Cobb salad I've ever had. Between their deliciously crispy chicken and their ranch dressing, I was in heaven. And the salad was huge - easily at least two meals. The service was great, too. My family and I have been doing half price burger night every Monday night since I was a kid. After returning to the DC area and a 12 year hiatus for burger night, we finally returned to Ramparts and it was just as I remembered. I think they even have the same burger menu! The burgers on burger night (Monday) are all delicious, with so many awesome toppings choices. My favorite is the tex mex burger with pepper jack cheese, guacamole and chipotle mayo. The staff are all super friendly and great even on a busy Monday night. The restaurant itself looks like it's been spruced up a bit during my hiatus and it has a warm welcoming atmosphere. Placed an order of onion rings and looked at the dinner menu bartender noticed asked and I replaced with a Yengling it was fine so ordered another and that one was bad too. ordered steak and salad dinner lets just say the lettuce was ok and the steak was not worthy of eating or boxing up for later and the second Yenging was left 3/4 full. After brunch some of us moved over to the bar and Annil was amazing. The shrimp & grits is so good (add the extra shrimp you won't regret it!) LOVED the mango Bellini so flavorful but definitely strong lol Such a friendly team of folks working here. Great dynamic between them! They had a shift change while we were there and they responded so well to the manager coming on shift, Orrin. Energy picked up. Jokes were cracked. He helped so much on the floor as well! Irish influence on the food. Great draft beer list, great drink list. Only critique I have is on the buffalo wings. Wish they were crispier. Atmosphere is good as well. There's a main dining room with booths and tables, and it's quiet if you're there for a quiet, relaxing meal. There's also a bar in the main dining room to provide a "quiet" bar for those dining alone or just looking for a quick drink. In the back is the main bar with high top tables and televisions - meant for sports, trivia and large groups. It's loud back there so be ready for that. Service is good as well. My wife ordered something she didn't quite like once and they happily replaced it and didn't charge us. They served me a flat beer once and replaced that as well, no charge. Friendly staff members. Quick service. No issues with meal customizations. Price is just awesome for what you get and the area. You can get in and out for $120 two people two meals, an appetizer, and a few drinks. My boyfriend and I were looking for a new place to try for dinner for a night out, and the pictures online at Ramparts look so good, so we had to come! They have outdoor seating, and although each table was covered/enclosed, it didn't look like they were heated, so we opted to sit inside. Everything looks spaced out appropriately and there was hand sanitizer available too. We didn't realize that there were two dining areas - one that is more family focused or for a nice date, and then a sports bar in the back with so many TV screens! No one noticed when we walked in for a few minutes, so we had to flag someone down to ask if we could be seated. The menu looked really great, and they even have tons of specials throughout the week that I would be excited to come back for, but since we were there on a Saturday night, we didn't take advantage of them at the time. My boyfriend was super excited to get the pork chops based on the photos online, but sadly they were out and we chose some other options. I wasn't too sad because everything on the menu looked delicious! For apps, we had JD mini burgers and the pork belly "burnt ends" - both were fantastic! I especially liked the pork belly because I love fatty meat, and it was cooked perfectly! The fries were also different than what I've had before but super tasty and crispy. For our entrées, I would've loved to get the Creole shrimp and pork belly, but since we had just had pork belly as an appetizer, I opted for the penne with chicken. Since they were out of the pork chops, my boyfriend ended up going with the half rack of bbq ribs and was able to substitute the coleslaw with pasta salad. The pasta tasted pretty good although I prefer a little bit of a thicker sauce and it was a little soupy. Still a solid course! We saw a picture of what looked like s'mores with Reese's peanut butter cups online, so we had to see the dessert menu. They may have change their dessert menu And I was a little bit sad not to see it as an option, but we went with a brownie sundae option instead. Super good especially if you love chocolate. It was a little too fudge-y for me, but I can see this being a crowd pleaser! Overall, I would definitely recommend Ramparts and come back especially during the week to take advantage of some of the specials! read more
