    Ramparts bar

We came here for Easter 2025 brunch buffet. This is our third Easter brunch at Ramparts. It's pretty good and I can recommend it. The ambience is comfortable and tranquil in the dining room. If there was music playing, it was unobtrusive. I'm not sure if they have brunch buffets on other holidays. The brunch food items are good. Breakfast items are available, like French Toast, waffles, bagels/cream cheese, bacon and sausage. There's also an omelet station. I liked all the dishes with the exception of the sauce on the ham, well, its flavor was not great. Lunch/dinner items include salmon, shrimp, chicken and beef medallions. Ramparts has several sides including biscuits, muffins, steamed vegetables and tossed salad. I love the dessert bar and especially like the macarons. Unfortunately, on this Easter, the self-serve ice cream machine conked out and if you wanted ice cream to go along with a gazillion different toppings, you had to get a staffer to go to the kitchen and scoop you a bowl. The substitute vanilla ice cream was excellent. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. However, some of the young staff are inexperienced and need more training on how to behave around customers. That would include these guys learning that it's not kosher to load up your own plates and stand there, holding your plates and chit chatting with each other, obliviously blocking customer access to the food. Other than that, we really like Ramparts.

Ramparts Tavern in Alexandria feels like a true neighborhood gem -- super family-friendly with a welcoming locals' vibe. They've got great daily deals, and we stopped in for Taco Tuesday, which included chips & dip specials and discounted tequila drinks. Highly recommend the French onion soup and the mushroom ravioli -- both were delicious and hearty. The bar inside has a lively atmosphere, and trivia night on Tuesday was a blast! A solid go-to for good food, good prices, and a fun time.

Amazing food. The burger I got had fresh guacamole and delicious sauce. Perfectly crispy fries. Service maybe could have been more prompt, but the food and beer were worth it. Friendly vibe, too. The bar area is essentially a sports bar and more casual than the main restaurant, in a good way. I've been here many times and will continue to come back. Definitely try the burgers. They are special.

This sandwich was so good! Crispy bread, and sweet aioli complimented it well. Their fries are tossed in Cajun seasoning which added a little bit of bite. Our service did start off as good but slowed down quite a bit after we got our food, resulting in my coworker not being able to order another item she wanted and waters empty. It was busy on a Sunday which might've been the reason. Good place for a chill vibe and to watch some football.

Did not disappoint... enjoyed an amazing angus burger with the works, and cold lager on a perfect Saturday afternoon! Service was great and outdoor seating was the best... 77 degrees, slight breeze. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger "I'll be back" :)

So good! Came in right when they opened at 11 Saturday. There were so many yummy choices on the menu and they have brunch specials too! Our waitress was wonderful and kind. The food was excellent. Seating was good. Outside tables too. Would love to come back and try brunch. Prices were on par. Portions were large. Everything was hot and made fresh. Couldn't complain even if I wanted to. Thanks for a great meal!

It can seem like such a cliche' when someone compares a bar/restaurant to "Cheers"...all the usual platitudes and aphorisms come to mind: "Staff treats you like a lifelong friend!" "Such a friendly atmosphere!" And so on. But is this just a sense of familiarity and comfort that puts a sheen on an otherwise mediocre experience? Well, I'm happy to say that with Ramparts, this is definitely not the case. A long standing Fairlington institution, Ramparts is a classic neighborhood joint, offering largely American fare, with an eye toward consistency and a fair value for money. There are daily M-F specials for burgers, tacos, wings, BBQ, and seafood, and monthly specials as well. Factor in a terrific M-F 4-7 happy hour and NFL/other sports game day specials, too. There are two options for diners, the sports bar side with a large bar, booths, and high tops, plus a separate area more suited for dining and families (also boasting a decent sized bar). I recommend their salads (the Cobb salad is especially good), wings, fried catfish, and burgers. Also, the happy hour buffalo salmon BLT sandwich is an amazing deal for $8. Service is attentive, friendly, and welcoming whether you are a regular or a first timer. From the bar managers to the servers, everyone does their part to ensure a quality experience in comfortable surroundings. Also a great place to strike up a conversation, meet people, and watch sports.

4.5 Great homey bar and grill. I came here tonight and the bar was packed for the Commanders vs Cowboys football game! Plenty of seating in the dining area though. Service was quick and great ambiance Review of foods: Bourbon Baked Brie- bacon was delicious and slightly herby. I would've loved if the Brie was a little more melted. It didn't spread on the bread too well but the taste made up for it. It wasn't too sweet despite the candied walnuts and sweet bacon bits Caesar salad- pretty standard. Lots of cheese and croutons French onion soup- also fairly standard. Would've appreciated a richer flavor - had to add salt Burger- didn't quite taste the sweet hot mustard spread but that didn't matter because i really enjoyed the burger. Very hearty with the mushrooms, Gouda, and demi-glace. It tastes less like your normal burger and more like a hearty gravy burger if that makes sense. I really enjoyed the demi-glace with the onion strings and the onion brioche roll held everything nicely without getting soggy The star of the show: our server Jared. He was awesome. Quick to bring refills without ask, very accommodating, and polite 5/5

Stopped by after shopping in the area, we wanted a place to grab lunch. Saw their menu out front and a server was outside on his break. He told us half the restaurant was like a sports bar with a calmer, dining area on the other side, same menu in both areas. We choose to eat in the dining area which was a bit quieter for conversations. Interior was very homey and gave off a comfortable vibe. Waitress told us to seat ourselves then took our drink orders. Bartender brought my sangria and took our food orders. I got a signature burger with mushrooms and farmhouse side salad, husband got the club sandwich with pasta salad. Salad was refreshing with a mix of arugula and greens and my burger reminded me of homestye burgers, massive and kinda gravy. Ended up needing boxes to take half our orders with us. A nice spot in the area to stop for lunch or dinner.

They also have great daily specials. They have a gigantic projection screen TV on the ground floor for sports and karaoke. They have been experimenting with the karaoke, but I am so glad they brought it back! It was so popular so it was confusing why they changed it to begin with. Karaoke is hopefully back to stay on Fridays from 9pm-1am. When it gets busy, the service can be slow. However, it is usually good. They have a private back room on the ground floor for hosting private parties, holiday parties, birthdays, corporate events and happy hours. The rooftop patio has a full bar and is very nice to eat there and relax in warmer weather. Bathrooms are usually clean. There are two entrances -- one sliding door without stairs near the ground floor outside patio and the main entrance does have stairs. There are no elevators. The ground floor is massive and able to hold hundreds of people. This is a great spot for sports, brunch, karaoke, and just socializing.

D is for Dudley's:…read more Now continuing past ABC in the alphabet series of places gone to with my girlfriend. I had been here several times even before my g/f. It's been a bit more good than bad, maybe more of a 3.5 stars, but they got rid of the BINGO night, and the last time going wasn't good, so rounding down to 3-stars based on most recent experience. In late 2010's while living in MD, I'd have work travel to VA sometimes or just want to go to trivia at Quinn's in Courthouse, and we would sometimes win generous gift cards to Dudley's. Two visits to Dudley's in August 2019: On Monday, August 5, 2019 my ex-g/f & I help spend some of my gift cards. I got a crab cake, mac n cheese, & fries. Glad I saw the pic because I didn't remember. The crab cake & mac n cheese was good but nothing to write home about. Fries were pretty solid though. On Thursday, August 22 while driving from southern MD on work travel back home, I had gotten a text from the organizer of the trivia group to call her as soon as I could, which I thought was a bit strange as she hadn't texted/called me in any recent time. So, I was nervous about what it could be. I called her back, and she informed me the co-organizer of the group passed away. She also said we were having a brunch at Dudley's honoring him this Saturday, August 24. I told my g/f at the time and said we should go, which she agreed. The outside area was reserved for this large group. Dudley's does have a nice outside rooftop area. I may have had an omelette or something with eggs (unfortunately I didn't take a pic). Probably wouldn't have been appropriate to have taken a pic for even an informal memorial. January 2020: Friday, January 10, 2020 was a strange day in not so good of a way. I had DC work travel and went to a movie at AMC Shirlington on my AMC A-List, which wasn't strange for me. My g/f calls me to tell me her contract job was being put on hold because the president of the contracting company had died. I was upset since she had just gotten the job less than a month earlier and was happy for her that she had gotten this good job. It was also one of those rare Friday nights where we weren't together, perhaps a girl's night or something else. After my movie, I went to Dudley's to take advantage of their half price pizza special and use more of the gift card I had. I assumed it was an individual size, but it was a huge pizza. I was happy it was a good deal, but I was by myself. So, it was little less than ideal. I ended up seeing a couple of friends on the way home in Bethesda and shared some pizza with them, and I still had some leftover pizza as well. The pizza was pretty delicious. Funny story between the 2019-2020 relationship & my g/f now: Went here another time on a date in May 2022. I had significant work travel, and a first date was from online. The service was good, got the happy hour drink, which was solid. The date was kind of mediocre. Funny thing about this first date, I pieced together I had gone on 1 date with her 9 years earlier! I asked for her number (since we had only communicated on whatever dating app), and when I entered the #, I realized it was in my phone with her name! Finally onto Spring 2024 with my current g/f: My g/f mentioned a group was going to BINGO night here, which they typically did a week of a holiday. The two times I went was week after Easter & week before Memorial Day. I was agreeable as I thought it sounded like fun, which it was. They had a 1/2 burger night on the Thursday night, so obviously I would plan to get the burger. Burger is good, but not great. The first time I got the burger the normal way. But the 2nd visit in May, I decided to go healthier with a lettuce-wrapped burger. The burger came out with shredded lettuce around the burger. I ate the sucker, but a huge shi*show of a mess this was. So, that was annoying. There were enough napkins, it was noisy, server was slow, & wanted more water. After the last experience, it's just as well that BINGO is no longer there.

Unfortunately, service started off on the wrong foot. There was a very large party already on the patio, and I was seated behind them. I waited about 12-15 minutes before the rest of my group arrived, but no server ever came by. We decided to head inside to get re‑seated, but couldn't find a hostess anywhere. We eventually flagged down a random server in the bar area and asked if a four‑top could be cleared so we could sit there instead. Thankfully, once we moved inside, everything improved dramatically. Service from that point on was attentive and friendly. The "Peoples Hour" menu was a highlight--great pricing without feeling "cheap." Appetizers were $6-10, cocktails $6-8, wines $6, and beers $6.50. The Down & Dirty (a vodka martini variation without vermouth) was solid, and the Out of the Office...Forever rum punch was decent. For food, we tried several items: - Makers Mini Nachos with steak -- Generous toppings but the chips got soggy quickly under all the queso, sour cream, and guac, which is not necessarily a bad thing. - Taco-bout Fish -- Crispy cod with a lemon aioli; one of the better bites of the night. - Drop It Like It's Hot -- Really good chicken tenders with a spicy Comeback sauce. - Lil B sliders -- Nicely cooked and not overdone; the Comeback sauce added a nice kick. The space has an upscale sports‑bar vibe with TVs above and around the bar. Seating can feel tight when it's busy, and the noise level definitely climbs, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a quieter meal. Despite the rocky start, the rest of the evening was enjoyable. Good food, great happy hour pricing, and solid service once we were settled inside. I'd return--just probably not to the patio during a big party.

Even the steak knife could barely cut through it. The outside of the steak was also burned black like charcoal. It definitely did not feel like the quality we experienced during our previous visits. Really hoping this was just an off night because we used to enjoy coming here.
