We used Astro of New England for the 4th time this past week, and the guys from Astro again made our move fairly painless. On short notice (only 2 a week before the move date) they sent Curt over to look at our house and estimate the effort required. He was helpful, prompt, and very professional. We got a quote a business day later, and the cost made sense to us. The movers arrived to box us up on Thursday, it was quick and they were done much earlier than I thought they would. They worked hard, treated our stuff with care, and were professional. The next day they packed up the truck, moved to our new home, and unpacked quickly. Our move ended up costing a bit less than the estimate. I would gladly recommend Astro of New England to family and friends. read more

I didn't actually use them for our move, which was too small and last minute for the level of service they provide, but they were SO nice and helpful. I talked to the salesperson who explained their thorough process, and I would use them in the future if I had a chance, but since it did not work out this time, he gave me names of 2 other moving companies and one of them worked. Want to indulge yourself the next time you have to move? Tired of schlepping those boxes of books and CDs up and down numerous flights of stairs? Does your idea of packing glasses and plates involve throwing everything in a box and covering it with a towel? Do yourself a favor and call Greg at Astro - hiring a mover isn't cheap, but it's not as expensive as you might think either. Greg figured out the level of service Astro could provide while staying within my budget and didn't attempt any hard selling tactics. On moving day the crew showed up - and I was very impressed by their level of professionalism. Now that I'm in my new home and finally finished unpacking, I'm pleased to report that not one item was broken or misplaced. I couldn't be happier with the service I received from Astro. One of their associates came out a week prior to the move to provide a quote, I was emailed an estimate of the charges and was told that it was rare when they go over the estimated moving time, and they were easily accessible via email. On the day of the move, Astro showed up at exactly the time they said they were showing up (8am) and they exuded professionalism from beginning to end. The foreman (Tim) worked with his two associates to ensure the move was done right, and they wouldn't leave until I was satisfied with the location of the furniture. They performed the move in less time so the final bill was $170 lower than the estimate. That was an awesome surprise. I recommend Astro highly, and would want to caution anyone using a moving company that doesn't come out to examine the contents of your move as not doing so can result in a wildly inaccurate quote. I almost went with a mover based in Central Falls because their hourly rate was $17/cheaper, but the owner of that place didn't want to come to my house, he rushed me on the phone when I was trying to tell him the contents of my house, and then he mentioned that he uses a 24' truck (Astro uses a 36') so it would take a couple of trips to do the move. When they first came to visit my 80 year old mom, they were very thorough and gave her a verbal estimate, followed by a couple of days later by a written estimate. When they came to pack on a Saturday, they did an excellent packing job and then returned on Monday to move it all. My mom's cat freaked out (cuz that's the way the cat rolls) and the movers were really super nice and helpful to help settle the cat and get her out of harms way. The move went really smoothly. They showed up on time, it took the amount of time they estimated, nothing got broken, the movers were really good about moving furniture to where my mom wanted it, one of the movers took a lot of care to get my mom's bed set up, etc. My mom even ended up paying a few hundred dollars less than the estimate because she did some packing up front. She would use them again and was treated more than fairly - very nicely. read more

Awful experience. First, we suspected they had underestimated our home's contents, so we asked them to come out again to make sure. They adjusted it upward a bit. Moving day, we were not told right away, but the truck ended up overweight, so many of our belongings were left behind at the warehouse - of course those were the last things to be packed because we need them on a daily basis! They blamed us for adding things they didn't know about (!). Then, they promised we would have the rest of our load in 2 weeks. After four weeks and many calls by us, we heard that the rest was on it's way. Unfortunately, we were halfway up the east coast on a trip and were not coming home for a month. Luckily, a relative opened the door and they dropped the stuff in the house randomly. Turned out there were still 3 items forgotten at the warehouse, which we ultimately picked up ourselves, since we needed them too much to wait again. Pieces of a playset they had taken apart were sent in separate shipments and were not labeled for reconstruction, so we had another long wait which turned up no solution. Had to find our own workers to build it again and are definitely billing them for this expense. The worst part was the damage and breakage from both moves. We've moved 13 times and have never had more than one or two things damaged - whether we packed ourselves or were professionally packed. The movers were nice guys, but they were careless and rough. These items should never have been placed underneath heavier items and treated so roughly. We will have repairs to the items we can salvage, but we lost a number of things we cannot replace. I would never recommend these people to anyone. It was a shit show. No apologies for anything, of course...whatever happens is your fault. read more

I recommend this company because in our experience they are honest, efficient, friendly, polite and attentive to detail. We hired Astro to move us from Exeter to Wakefield RI. A representative came to the house to assess the cost of the move. She spent time going over the entire house, then sent us an estimate. We consulted with two other moving companies who also sent someone to the house, and Astro's quote was in line with the others. On the moving day they arrived right on time at 8 am, walked through the house to looked at packed boxes and furniture. They went right to work and were very efficient and careful with the furniture. Our move took place over two days. They ended the first day by 1pm. The next day they arrived at the new house at 8am and again went through the house so we could tell them in general where we wanted everything put. They followed our instructions and were very careful about furniture placement. Once, they had mistakenly carried two heavy bureaus upstairs to the wrong bedroom and had to move them downstairs again to another room. They did this with no complaint. When they had finished, we went through the house room by room to make sure everything was where we wanted it. They finished even earlier on the second day. When I signed the paperwork, the foreman told me I'd be getting a refund because the move had taken less time than predicted. Within the week, I received the refund check for about $1200. We were very pleased. read more

I moved from Newport to Bristol recently and had Astro move all my furniture. So I can't comment on any packing services but the guys that moved us were great. They were on time, efficient, extremely responsive, cheerful, and in short, made the move go well...even moving heavy items up a tiny staircase in an old house. The price was entirely reasonable. I just had Astro pick up my stuff for storage for the first time that I've ever used a moving company - I seriously could not be happier! The crew was definitely hard-working and SUPER-conscientious to my needs - thanks guys!!! The crew chief, Tim, was ALL over the job and kept things moving. The ONLY downside to the move was my own damned fault.I had one plastic storage bin that I was in the process of packing with things that I ABSOLUTELY needed to go with me, but someone capped it and loaded it! I had previously put away everything that I was taking with me, but failed to clearly indicate this bin to the crew. BUT, when I realized a few hours later that the bin was gone, Astro staff were FANTASTIC in quickly digging into the already-stored material, finding and returning the bin! I recently moved from a small apartment and went with Astro on a recommendation from my realtor. The guys (two of them) who came and did the moving were fine - friendly and professional and worked very hard to move my items without damage. Their appraiser, however (the gentleman who came several days before and provided the estimate), was obviously not having his best day when he came to assess the job. First off, the days got mixed up. After I repeatedly specified that I needed to move on the Thursday, the agent incorrectly wrote down Friday. Since no written confirmation had been provided, we were left in an "I said, you said" situation, which fortunately was not that big of a deal. Secondly, he overshot his estimate by a good two hours, despite my having told him that my furniture and belongings were only to be moved into a garage for temporary storage. Because it took much less time to unload than it normally would have, the guys were done in just under three hours. Nevertheless, because Astro bills strictly according to their "estimate", I still paid for a 5-hour job. The agent also failed to disclose that Astro only accepts payment in cash or bank check. I found this out from the driver when the movers arrived at my home, and had to run out to the bank to purchase a certified check. When I relocated to my new home a couple months later, I selected a different company - who sent three guys, charged me less than half of what I had paid Astro, and accepted payment by regular check with no hassles. I might suggest that Astro's appraisers need to be trained to provide better disclosure of their policies and to clearly document agreed-to dates and times. Also, the company should allow for adjustments in cases (like mine) where the time estimate was clearly incorrect. My overall opinion of Astro movers is that they are better suited to larger residential and commercial-type jobs. For those moving into or out of smaller homes and apartments, their appraisal and payment policies are pretty inflexible, and you will almost undoubtedly end up paying quite a bit more than you need to. read more

I hired Astro of New England to help me move recently from Providence to Cranston. I could not have been more impressed. They arrived on time, were friendly, and were super fast. Some movers can drag their feet racking up the bill, but not these guys. They also did the setup up on the other end and made sure I was happy with where everything was. Literally the moment they finished they contacted the company to keep the time exact. They were careful with all my stuff. Received a contract for 3 hours of moving and 1 hour of travel time. Contract was not explained, just sent via email by Lynn Lamendola. A reasonable person reading this contract would think that you were paying for a total of 4 hours of services, 3 at the moving locations and 1 to travel between them. Nowhere in the contract does it say the travel time is "empty travel time." When move was complete, in 3.25 hours, I was told that I owe extra because they went over the quoted price. When I questioned it, I was put on the phone with Elisa Ko Olson, their office staff. At this time, I was explained that travel time should be listed as empty travel time. The woman I spoke with apologized and stated that she would review the issue with Lynn. She still stated that I owed the overage even though it was their fault. Then the owner comes on the phone. Apparently the person who wrote my contract was his daughter so he did not even consider viewing the situation from my point of view. He was extremely aggressive and was in no way a customer advocate. He ended the phone call by yelling at me and telling me to pay what I think I should pay. Then he hung up the phone. As much as I appreciated the two movers themselves (who did a wonderful job), I can, in no way, recommend this company to anybody. read more

We just opened up our furniture after having it moved and packed by Astro and we found numerous things that were broken or scratched. They put something underneath an antique desk that rubbed against both sides of the desk for the whole trip, causing scratches. The leg of a side table was sheared off (i.e., not easily fixed). And now we can't find parts to our chandelier. Do not recommend at all. read more
