I had the worst moving experience with this company. I had a few large pieces of antique furniture moved from RI to MA. They sped through packing up everything in RI and I was surprised when I heard from my friend that they were already en route to my home in MA. When I returned home that evening (my husband was home during the move), the first thing I saw were 3 large pieces of an armoire placed on top of my trash barrels outside with part of the facade laid on top. The remaining parts of the armoire were broken in multiple pieces. One shelf was missing. A painted bureau that had been in perfect condition prior was found to have a broken base that later completely collapsed. Three of the legs were split with missing shards. Another bureau had black streaks on the front. Finally, they were also unable to move an armoire out of a room, a piece was successfully moved into that same room years ago and that I was to deliver to a friend. This was absolutely the worst job I have ever seen. They do not even deserve one star. I provided detailed photo's of the broken parts to the company, but they made up their own version of the events and did not agree to a complete refund ($1280 with tip). They offered us $100 initially and then $300 when we protested. I now have to pay for the repairs and am not sure I will see any of the money. To add insult to injury I am missing a pair of gold earings that had been left in my room and suspect they may have taken them. My parent's independent living facility required that I select a mover on their "trusted" list. My brother had used Lawton movers the week prior based on the price they offered him and their seeming nice to deal with on the phone. I used these guys three times. The first time was an awesome experience. The second time was pretty good. The third time was not great. This particular moving crew was pretty slow. But the worst part was when they were wrapping up. I had to run out to the store so my girlfriend was there to square everything away with them. Having used them twice before, I had a vague idea of what it was going to cost since we were moving the same items pretty much the same distance. Although this time, due to water damage and mold, I was only moving about half the items and furniture. She called me while I was waiting in line at the store, and the cost they gave her was absolutely astronomical. They were saying it was an eight hour minimum. This was not told to me the few times I spoke with them prior to the job. This also was not the case the two previous times I used them. If I had known that was the case, I never would've hired them because I knew it would only be about a four hour job (including travel time) tops. Knowing this, why would I agree to an eight hour minimum, doubling my cost? When I called them, the gentleman I spoke with was extremely aggressive and rude. He basically said there was no way this was not communicated to me, and I was lying. Since I was standing in line at the store, this was especially stressful and aggravating having to play he said/she said and argue in circles. I was shocked. Long story short, it was the end of the day, and this was a stressful move. He would not budge at all, and only agreed to charge for seven hours begrudgingly. This was basically extortion. We have 3 large men at your home with your girlfriend, and they are not going to leave unless you pay us double. I felt helpless. He was extremely rude, unprofessional, and argumentative the entire time. I would not recommend this company to anyone and certainly will not use them for yet another upcoming move. First of all, the scheduling and pricing was a breeze, unlike those big conglomerate places that had forms to fill out, and people to talk to from other states. I spoke to someone in the office, so kind, and I was given a price, and they stuck to it. No extra fees for a box for a TV...no blah... I had gotten four prices, and Lawton totally beat them all. My wife and I just bought a house and used Lawton to move us from our apartment at the Promenade in Providence to our house. The both of us have gone through a few moves in our lives (college, various apartments, all from Ohio to New York, then to Rhode Island) I can say of all of our past moving experience, Lawton was the best moving experience either of us have ever had. The crew was absolutely incredible. Jamie was the team lead/driver. And the other three guys Lewis, Joe, and Everett were awesome. Moving can be stressful and often times I have been worried about my belongings when hiring a moving company. I had a great experience with Lawton Moving & Storage and I would highly recommend! Before deciding to work with them, I called at least 15 other places for quotes. All of them were pricey for only 2 guys and they were telling me it would take upwards of 8 hours (to move a 1 bedroom from Warwick, RI to Braintree, MA) which I thought was crazy! When I finally spoke with Frank from Lawton Moving & Storage, he was very nice and gave me pricing for 3 men (which was lower than any other place around for 2 men!). He also gave me a realistic time frame of 3.5-5.5 hours. I was told the men would get there between 8-8:30 the morning of the move, and they were there right after 8 am! I believe it was Tom, Eric & Eric! They got to work right away and I was impressed by how quick they moved. I had a very tricky second floor apartment to get out of, and they made it work. I also had a lot of furniture that needed to be taken apart and put back together and they did a great job. Everything got moved into the new place and set up/put together in no time. In Aug 2022, these movers loaded my belongings and put them in their storage facility. When I received my things, I was, and still am extremely angry. Broken items (too many to list), a box of Jordan sneakers just disappeared, a box of cherished snow globes was crushed and 7 globes were smashed in the box ( the box was delivered saturated with water) and a sacred, granite altar was missing. My antique rocking horse was broken ( they gave me a whopping 75$) for it. Beware...if you don't let them pack your box or pay for their expensive insurance, you get nothing toward your broken items! I was told that I didn't pack the boxes right and that's why they aren't responsible. They moved 3 TV's "as a courtesy" and TWO were broken with spiderweb cracks. Those boxes were either thrown when arriving at storage or thrown on the truck for delivery. Every box was labeled. They knew what was in boxes and glassware was FRAGILE. Never, ever again with these people. NEVER. And I stupidly gave each of the movers a $40.00 tip. (A check made out to CASH) I'm still infuriated. USE THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK! read more

Poor service, unfriendly, and unprofessional service from the start. The two men that moved me and my family to a new home were absolutely a nightmare, making the whole moving experience extremely difficult and stressful. Out of bunch I had picked Lawton Moving for the reasonable price and flexibility. But, during the moving process that quickly changed once the movers arrived at the home I was moving from. They begin by grumbling about everything, very direct with what they had to say. They would not follow nothing agreed upon contract given. After refusing to take some furnitures apart I then had to jump in quickly to assist soon after noticing them damaging the expensive furniture pieces by carelessness. They even tried misleading me on furnitures left behind and when contact the manager him too would refuse to allow pick up of furniture left behind. The manager then got belligerent with me as a result of his mover's actions. I had to put a stop on the check immediately in order to pick up the rest that was intentionally left behind. Having used Lawton's Moving and Storage in the past, I didn't shop around when I needed to have my furniture removed and placed in storage when I was doing some home renovations. The removal went well but when the furniture was returned on November 25, 2019 it was nothing short of rushed, reckless and showed compete lack of respect for my renovated home. After several calls and discussions with Frank who initially told me he would "take care of the damages", I had to pay to have walls touched up, wood molding and furniture repaired. I used Lawton movers to move from Providence to Boston almost a year ago. My advice is - if you want to stay within your budget and be done within reasonable amount of time - DO NOT USE LAWTON MOVERS! I had to move 1 bedroom apartment, everything was packed and ready. The movers showed up a bit late, even though it was a morning move, Then, when they started taking things down, i thought their pace is slow, because they are not fully awake yet (even though it was 10am already). But the pace stayed the same throughout the move, barely walking, taking smoke breaks every 20 minutes, gasping and complaining. It took them 2 hours to get from Providence to Boston and they blamed it on the traffic (right! i took the same route and got to Boston 40 minutes before them). They kept the same pace while unloading the truck. I was so frustrated, that i told them i have a certain budget for the move and if they go over it, they are not getting a tip. At this point they became fully awake and aware of what they were doing there. And mind you, i was helping them to unload the truck, because otherwise they wouldn't be done by midnight! Eventually, my move started at 10am and ended around 5pm, it cost me almost $800, they were dragging the time on purpose (with the slow pace and constant smoke breaks) and obviously this was to get more money for the job. If you're planning a move, do yourself a favor, skip Lawton movers. You won't spend the whole day on the move, won't be frustrated by movers, who openly treat you like an idiot by dragging the time and thinking you have no idea what is going on. I have used Lawton twice. They were great both times. The crew arrived on time and went to work right away. They were very efficient and were very careful with all the items they moved. The move took slightly longer than what I anticipated but that had to do more with the house layout than anything else. The driver was able to maneuver the truck on our tight street and never touched the grass. No damage whatsoever. The price I agreed to over the phone (they charge per hour and give you an estimate of how many hours the job will take) was exactly what I ended up paying. Great job! read more

I have used these guys twice in the past year and they are AMAZING! They are fast, affordable and very responsible. I completely recommend them. They moved everything but the small boxes with our very fragile items (I will never trust anyone with them so it's not about them, it's about me) and it took them 6.5 hours including travel time from Warwick to Coventry. One thing that impressed me the most is how respectful and nice they were. We have some really heavy furniture and I never heard them swear or complain (I know would have!.) One bedroom apartment, plus some salon furniture needed storing, packed and moved..... Was quoted for three men 116.00 per hour would come the next day..between 930-10am. Got there an hour early so they had to wait for my mother to get there I live across the country in Arizona on base with my husband and children. This is a second home for me so literally no clothes, no shoes, some little kitchen items a few furniture items and a den with some boxes never opened before and some toys that needed to be packed. They charged me almost $500 for boxes ($461 to be exact), they didn't load and or pack anything from my salon, the 3rd man on the job my mother said was the supervisor was on the phone the whole time and and literally did not pack one box she ended up helping them pack because the other two were working so hard she felt bad for them. The only thing other than talk on the phone and drive the truck the supervisor did was sticker the boxes for inventory at the end and was actually holding up the other two from loading. I was told they could come back the next day to pack salon in the afternoon was never given a time then the owner called my mother and yelled at her for not being there at 10am at no time were we advised a time only to get a phone call stating they were on their way. I called the owner only to get yelled at myself saying I had to pay for a parking ticket for an expired meter from the day before and that I was being billed 1366.00 for the day before for a very small unfurnished one bedroom apartment!!!!! We are still in dispute I felt so taken advantage of and honestly scared to talk to him again because the owner was so rude and scary on the phone I feel bullied and now they have my things in their possession. I canceled the salon move for the day because I felt so uncomfortable, and after speaking to my attorney we decided to take a look at the individual charges from the day before and go from there. Nobody deserves to get treated like that, this company should make people feel comfortable that their belongings are with them, but I feel everything but comfortable and secure. So in total they are trying to charge me 1366.00 (including a parking ticket) for a not fully furnished one bedroom apartment... my husband and I moved and packed his one bedroom fully furnished apartment by ourselves in Arizona in 3 hours....just saying. read more

I called Lawton movers and spoke to Tom to get an estimate on moving from my one bedroom apartment into another one bedroom apartment about three miles away in the same town. I was told by Tom that seeing it was a small move and if I took a time slot during the week in between two of their big jobs they would do it for a cheaper than normal price. Seeing I only had a kitchen table and chairs, an adjustable bed, two bureaus, one armoire, one end table, two wicker chest and two wicker chairs. I said sure. So the time frame was between 12-2pm. I own a my own business and I had to cancel my day of work( losing income) to meet the movers. When they arrived for some strange reason one of moving guys went on and on about it being a different price over double the amount I was quoted. I disputed it and he decides to call the owner Bill telling him what I was quoted. He then asked me to talk to Bill. I told Bill what I was told by Tom the day I booked my move. He denied that any of his workers had ever quoted me that in turn calling me a liar!! I handed the phone to the mover as I didn't want to continue in this conversation with him. The fees and magic reasons they came up with to inflate the price on the day of service were ridiculous. On 6/15/15 I used Lawton moving to move in to my new house. I had been choosing between them and another company, but I definitely made the correct decision! The crew arrived on time and were very polite and helpful. I had many important items that were difficult to move, including a grand piano and a 65 inch tv. The crew was able to move all of them without any damage at all. I also had them pack my belongings into boxes and I was pleased to find there was no damage to any of the smaller items as well. This was the first time I've used this company. I can not say enough excellent things about Bill and the crew he sent out. 4 men worked their hardest on an extremely humid day. None of them complained. They just kept on going. They were ALL courteous, polite, more than going out of their way to be accommodating, and friendly. I thought I was missing 2 shelves but it was my mistake. The shelves were right there in front of my face even though i swore to Bill I didn't have them! He was very polite and understanding about my concern over what I thought was their mistake. Nothing was scratched or damaged either. Sorry took me so long to post this. I used Lawton in June for a 12 mile move. The team arrived on time, and were absolutely amazing in their speediness and care. I was originally scheduled for 3 movers but was asked a few days in advance if I'd prefer 4 for a faster more streamlined move. I agreed so was slightly disappointed that only three showed up... not a problem: they called an had the fourth arrive shortly, which was good because the dispatcher failed to notify the guys I required a wardrobe ( which the 4 th brought!). My move was flawless. The guys were so careful handling my antiques and artwork. Not one thing broken or damaged.. well, just one thing, by ME unpacking! I've met others in my new residence who've also used Lawton and had nothing but praise. If I ever move again (and I certainly hope I don't!) I will contact Lawton with great confidence of an excellent move and fair pricing. Thanks guys!!! read more

Potential Lawton customers--beware. We are extremely dissatisfied with Lawton Moving and Storage. Their moving truck broke several large branches of prize trees bordering our driveway. The drivers did not notify us of the damage. No large trucks until Lawton have ever caused damage entering or exiting our driveway. The company completely stonewalled me when I called and then sent them a registered letter with an estimate of the $1000+ damage. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! They are the WORST! HORRIBLE! I will be filing a complaint with the better business bureau! DO NOT hire or contract this moving company. First, it supposedly took the company almost 40 minutes to drive 2.4 miles (which I was charged for). I understand it was raining but it does not take 40 minutes to drive 2.4 miles in the worst conditions. Then, I prepaid 3 hours for 3 men and only two showed up. The manager/owner gave me this sob story about how two of his employees were in a car accident and couldn't come to work (which was a lie because I overheard one of the movers saying that they called out bc they didn't want to work), but miraculously, about an hour later a third man showed up. So while I was trying to clear this situation time was running on my dime and no one was doing anything (another 30-35 minutes wasted). Since I only prepaid for 3 hours, they only wanted to work for that time. They said they had another job scheduled at 11:00 and had to go. THAT'S NOT MY PROBLEM. I paid them to move me not to tell me you only paid three hours. We can't take this we can't take that. Long story short, they worked for a total of about an hour and 15 mins and only moved my bedroom set! I PAID almost $400.00 to have a bedroom set moved about a mile. They also ruined the ceiling at my new place, ruined my neighbors sprinkler. I was furious. I called demanding to speak to some, but could not get anyone to listen to my complaint. I was refunded a measly $40.00. Moving is hard enough and they made my experience horrifying. So I paid for an almost 40 minute "joy-ride) another 30 to 35 minutes of back and forth because they can't get their story strait. I paid for 2 men the first hour (and only one worked for about 10-15 mins of that hour and brought down bed railings). And for 3 men the next two hours and only 2 worked. After all of this, I had to hire another company to move me and pay $350.00 to have them move me. a moving company should never tell anyone we don't have time we can't take this. I was told it was a two hour minimum and any extra time would be more. I was fine with that. I wasn't fine with being told you only paid 3 hours and we have another job so we can't take your stuff. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are dishonest, unprofessional, and just the worst company ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Response to Lawton: The nerve of Lawton to flat out lie! First, i spoke to someone initially and informed them i had a bedroom set, living room set, a dining room table, kitchenette, futon, amour, about 100 boxes and 4 ACs. All boxes where in the front room and the only items left in the other room was the bedroom set. This was very clear! It is not my fault you do not keep records of conversations. Second, one of your employees specifically told me they had an 11 am job and could not complete my move with the time i had prepaid. third your drivers showed up at 8:39 (two minutes away from 8:40- that seems like a joy ride to me as it does not take 38 minutes to drive 2.4 miles). Therefore, before you make any comments you should get your story straits and speak to your movers. Forth, your employees moved as slow as molasses on a cold winter day. Fifth, i was definitely frustrated with your company after the first hour and a half and definitely did not want to do any more business with you. i was definitely told it may take more time move so that is why i prepaid the 3 hours so id have less money to pay at the end. Nevertheless, i paid someone else the next day to fix the mess you made Also, i never said i was on a first floor. it was clear i was moving from a second floor to a second floor. I did not have two sofas. i have one sofa sectional, which i also made very clear! I have never written a review before. But I felt the need to do so after this horrible experience. They are horrible and unprofessional. Wanted cash upfront after I gave deposit on credit card. They get paid hourly so I said I'll pay after job is done depending on how long it takes you to move my items. They drove off with my stuff because I didn't give them cash upfront.
