UPDATE FROM MY INITIAL REVIEW: I recently attended a tournament at this bowling alley and, unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I brought a concern to the staff regarding the integrity of the tournament. While I did receive a response after messaging privately, it was dismissive and unnecessarily rude. I was told that my concern was unfounded and even that I had not approached table attendants--something that is untrue as I did approach them. I do not have concrete proof beyond what was openly admitted and bragged about by others, but the way my concern was handled left me with little confidence in the fairness or professionalism of this establishment. Beyond the tournament itself, my overall impression of the facility was not positive. Concessions were overpriced, the menu was difficult to read due to constant blinking, and staff at the counter were rushed and curt when taking orders. However, after experiencing their customer service privately with an issue and as displayed in the owner's comments below any review less than perfect on Google, the rudeness I was greeted with is no surprise. Further displaying the lack of professionalism. Given the number of tournaments this alley hosts, I regret that my experience left me with concerns about both organization and customer service. For bowlers and families seeking a fair, welcoming, and professional tournament environment, there are other options in San Antonio that are more reliable. read more

Katie was amazing but the guy at the front desk with the eye patch and bald was pretty rude we asked for a lane and then I went to discuss with my family and we ended saying yes and then after within a 3 minute span he said 4 lanes were taken and there was only 1 person in line read more

Not a bad bowling location. They have plenty of lanes, but if you're in a bowling league get there early to find parking or you'll be across the street. The food prices are pretty good and they often have drink specials. read more

Had a great time! Please don't judge the experience by the outside cover. Yes, it's an older building but this owner/staff have worked hard to make this a great place to come. SINGLE FATHERS NOT WELCOME! This place only has baby changing tables in the women's restroom. When asked, the staff offered no solutions. Someone wearing a nametag that reads "Batman" just simply said, "I don't know what to tell you." I had to change my baby in my hot car in 90° F weather. I wouldn't come here unless a state tournament was being held here. read more

My daughter plays here for her high school legue. This is one of the largest bowling alleys and the food is not bad for a bowling alley. You can also have drinks and bowl with friends. We have had many good times in here. Come on over and have some fun. read more

At first glance someone might jump to judgement and say it was kinda run down and out dated. It's a smaller bowling ally, with only one line of lanes and doesn't have the flashy arcade or bells and whistles that the newer more modern places have. However the front register staff were extremely friendly, the food actually tasted better than the fancier places I've been, and despite it being a Saturday night, the wait to get a lane was only 40 mins. The bar drinks were really good and cheap, the prices to actually bowl were the best I've come across, as well as one of the few places that allowed 6 of us to bowl one lane vs having to split lanes, and all around everyone had a great time. It not being big and fancy actual gives it a very relaxed and comfortable vibe and is for sure some where me and the family will visit again. read more

We picked this bowling alley because it was affordable and open during daytime hours and so glad we did. It was so much fun and very affordable and offered food combo and promotions with games. This is a true bowling alley: Lockers, snack bar, sports shop, it has what you need. We went there to bowl and bowling is what we did, we even let the kids bowl an extra game. There weren't any other kids around and mostly older serious bowlers but they didn't seem to mind us at all. $2.50 shoes and $2.50 a game before 4pm, uuummm yes please!!! read more

This review begins with a story. We went to the San Antonio Zoo on Saturday morning (the zoo sucks; do not go there unless you like crowds, idiots, and run down exhibits) and as we were leaving around 2, someone in the parking lot waved us down to point out that we had a flat tire. GREAT. We made it to the closest Discount Tire that would immediately help us, and as we're sitting outside waiting, one of us looks up across the street, turns to the other one, and says, "Wanna go bowling?" HELL YES. Astro SuperBowl has filled the Dart Bowl-sized hole in our hearts. We love love love everything about this place: its ridiculous alien kitsch decor, the one guy working who seems like he really loves Lord of the Rings, the fact that it was almost entirely empty (there were only two other occupied lanes at the opposite end of the alley, so we had the place to ourselves). Seriously perfect. And they even had tiny bowling shoes in our daughter's size! We bowled two games, drank beers, and had an all around fabulous time (the food menu looked a bit scary, so we decided not to eat here). Our kid loves to bowl, but even with the bumpers her ball couldn't make it all the way down, so they gave us this amazing dino ramp that she could roll her ball down for more speed. So cute. We are NOT kidding when we say that we will 100% be coming back here every single time that we are in San Antonio. read more

A group of us came here on a Saturday night for some friendly bowling. It was everything I wanted it to be. None of us are regular bowlers and we were sprinkled in with others there for the same reason which was nice. They had a birthday party in one corner and a family next to us which kept things super chill and fun. The bowling rounds were cheap and there was a deal here on Yelp if you "check in". The concession stand was just that, with all you would expect when it comes to greasy junk food. There was a sweet older gentleman that worked there wandering through, picking up trash, and wiping down tables. He also helped us when we got stuck on the setup menu. We had a blast and can't wait to come back when the world returns to normal! read more

I rarely bowl but I found this place to be a good spot for bowling. The building is old but they've really tried to keep it up to date. The staff was friendly and helpful and the prices seem fair. They advertise special just about everyday, including college night, senior specials, unlimited bowling, etc. The lanes are well kept, the screens are large and easy to read, and they have large flat screens showing sports. The little restaurant inside is reasonably priced and has a good variety, including beer, hotdogs, pizza, burgers, etc. I had the cheeseburger, fries and drink; my bill was $8. It was surprisingly good. I'll definitely return the next time I'm looking to bowl. read more

I visited this bowling alley last night for the San Antonio SSC league. The alley is pretty basic--it has lanes, balls, and beers. While the place is a little run down, and there isn't "laser bowling" like at some of the other places, you can tell this is a solid establishment. Who needs those frills anyway? We're here to bowl! The guys at the counter are really nice and helpful. They even were sure to put on the NBA Finals for everyone and move the TV so the group could see it better. I decided to bring my family here for a fun night of bowling and food. The bowling portion was fine however the food portion completely SUCKED! I went up to the concessions counter to order popcorn and nachos After a couple minutes of waiting there (with no line) the what must have been an unhappy worker comes up and i ask him for the nachos and popcorn. He simply states "nah I'm not making any more of that" ... referring to the popcorn. There was no reason for this. It wasn't close to closing time or anything like that. Made no sense to me. The guy behind the bar Luis is a dick! I asked him if I could try One of the craft beers on draft. He said this isn't Baskin-Robbins like I'm some little fucking kid. We just had a birthday party here for our 5 year old son. We had tried to coordinate a week prior but, life happened and weren't able to do it as scheduled. We went out on a limb and came in a day prior ( I really wouldn't recommend, as a courtesy to anyone) but thankfully we were able to still coordinate and schedule our party with them. As a parent knowing I had booked the party a day prior at a bowling alley I honestly was just grateful we had a spot to accommodate us. Upon arrival, our area was already set up with tables with decorations, plate settings and a table set up for the cake and gifts to the side. I liked that our lanes were towards the end so we were kinda away from everyone. Our hostess Brenda was amazing and very accommodating throughout the whole party and helped get us everything we needed. She made sure we got all our food and drinks on time. The two gentleman that worked the front desk were so amazing and courteous and so very helpful. The staff at the snack bar/restaurant were also very helpful, the service was quick and they were also so very courteous. All in all we had a perfect experience there for our his party...but it gets better. There happened to be a hot wheels convention there and my son, who happens to love hot wheels btw, saw that this was going on inside and we didn't really pay any mind. We were kinda excited and thought it was really cool that it was there. While we were having our party, the staff came over and said some of the individuals from said hot wheels convention donated some cars, and they gave a few of them to the birthday boy. I was floored by the gesture. He then said that they wanted him to come over after his party to come see them and they would give him another surprise. That they did...These individuals made my son's day and well our day as well...My son came home with more than he could have ever have imagined and his day was truly made. I recently visited this bowling alley for a 10 year old's birthday party. Upon looking up the address and driving to the location, I was questioning whether or not I had printed the right information - as I have seen this bowling alley for years - on the outside, but had never been on the inside. It just didn't have the curb appeal I was looking for in a bowling alley - if there is such a thing - and I assumed it was old an run down and quite frankly not a place I wanted to visit. Surprisingly, after attending the party, I am considering taking my kids back to this bowling alley! Even though, that's not something we do very often, I won't be scared of this location. They had new floors, a clean establishment, decent - bowling balls equipment, food, and clientelle. The prices seemed reasonable, and weren't outrageous. We enjoyed it. It's not the huge mega-bowling alley with all the bells and whistles of other newer establishments, but rather your local neighborhood bowling alley, that is small, unassuming and just as much fun! When I lived in 09, I couldn't understand how this place constantly had a packed parking lot. I took my students on a field trip, and still didn't get it. The place is outdated and looks a little sketchy. The people inside look a little on the sketchy side themselves, though how corrupt can you be to be at a bowling alley at 11AM on a Wednesday, really? As others have said, the bowling alley hasn't been updated or renovated since the Regan administration was in office, if not earlier. And that's okay. It's not exactly owning it's oldness, as it isn't super well-kept enough to be considered "vintage", but it's functional. I'm interested in visiting their lounge, someday. From what I recall, pricing was good and played a large role in why we selected this particular location- other posts contest to the fact that they have good weekday specials. As for my experience with my kiddos, we had a few technical difficulties with our lanes, and there isn't an overabundance of balls for youngsters, but we worked on our sharing so it wasn't that big of a deal. The snack bar options were fairly generic and overpriced, as they tend to be. However, with seven year olds, they're not exactly ordering the lunch value meal, so if you're the type to go wild in a convenience store with snack options- this place will suit you well. Despite my comments about the appearance, the employees here were helpful and polite, though I got the distinct impression that working with kids was not their forte. This is probably a great place to go with an older group, or maybe as a family, but I wouldn't necessarily consider it a top-choice option for field trips with young children. read more

As far as bowling alleys go, there's nothing really wrong with it. They have everything you'd ever need, and the prices are pretty reasonable. The snack bar has a good selection. However, the ball choice leaves something to be desired (ex. 10 lb ball which only people with tiny tiny hands can use) and some of the lanes are very "tricky". You could throw the same ball on different lanes and get different results each time. If you live super close, go for it...if not...well, maybe take a pass. read more

Just the fact that there is still an old-school bowling alley in San Antonio that hasn't been converted into some fancy establishment is, in and of itself, amazing. Yeah, the place hasn't been renovated since Reagan was in office, but that's what I love about Astro. You have shoes, lanes, balls so you bowl! The staff is very friendly and it seems all of the local leagues play here... so that's why I come here (along with many cool places here in Thousand Oaks) Perhaps the best thing about this place is the restaurant. They have lunch specials, cold drinks, and cheap eats for your bowling snackage. Hot dogs, burgers, etc. I recently had a large dog, chips & a large drink for $5.82. And it was damn good, too. I came specifically to check out the lounge, as if there's any place that I fit in most, it's a throwback bowling alley bar designed in the 80s. BUT, the restaurant waitress told me they don't open until 5:00 p.m. But I'll be back.. very, very soon.. and update accordingly. ;) Some other tips: Yes, they do take credit cards. There's loads of free parking in the lot. Refills on large drinks are 54 cents!!! read more

Oh Astro Bowl how I've missed you! I used to be in a bowling league from 2nd to 8th grade and this is where we would bowl. Granted that was over 15 years ago. But I took my family back there recently and it brought back so many memories. Yes, somethings have changed. The score keeping stations have been updated and the bumpers are now automatic and not those inflatable ones you have to set up before you start, but it's still a place that holds many old memories for me so I'm glad that I can take my kids there now and create new memories with them. As mentioned, the scoring stations at each of the lanes are updated and they now have bumpers that can be raised with the touch of a button. The place is quite clean and I'm glad that there's no more smoking inside which is nice when you have kids. They have a special on Sunday where you pay like $1 a game and $2 for shoes. It actually gets pretty packed and the special only lasts in the morning so go early if you go on Sunday. The staff are nice folks. The only think that kind of stunk was the game room. My son wanted to play games, but half the gaming machines weren't working. And the popcorn was outrageously salty. But other than that, I still love this place! read more

My coworkers and I came here because it was the nearest bowling alley that was still open after ten on a Sunday night. I hadn't been to this place since before the city smoking ban, so I was glad to see that things were much better than my dingy, smoky, memories of the place. We had fun. (That's not necessarily a good thing)other than that the overall experience is subpar and, the worst part of the pricing system. It is absolute bull! The yelp coupon is almost useless because one game is one person. So say you have ten people, you would have to pay for 10 games in that case. So a group of friends and I decided to come to Astro Bowl Thursday night and were pleased with the bowling and disgusted by the bartender. Clearly serving underage friends of hers we were ignored and passed over for 15min at the bar that was not very busy. Her friends were disgusting and clearly violating health laws by sticking their personal straws in mixing glasses. Eventually decided to save ourselves a possible sickness and walked away. This is not my first time visiting this bowling alley but it's been over 7 years however it's my first time taking my babies bowling. I'm going to say this, I'm not happy with this place or shall I say the cashier. My babies and I walked in and asked her about the free bowls. She looked at my kids then looked me in my eyes and said, are they yours? If that couldn't be more racists. I looked at her and said YES THEY ARE MINES. I had a birthday party set up on Saturday 2/6/21 for my stepson and the hostess was very polite and attentive. The staff in the snack bar however was very rude. First off the cook was not wearing a mask when he addressed me about the cashier not being there cause she was in the restroom. I waited a bit then an older woman asked If I was ready to order I asked her if the bar was open she said no it opens at 6pm. I said ok what kind of beer do you have she said we have a lot. I said do you have a menu? She replied no. Then another girl stepped in and the cashier walked away. The young girl said can I help you? I said well I thought the other person was taking my order but ok. What kind of beer do you have? She also replied " a lot". Okay do you have Stella? She said no. Do have Corona? She says no. What do you have then. She then recited five beers. I purchased the option they had. The second time I went up I was waiting and the hostess asked the cook to make another pizza for the party. The cook replied, " They better pay for it !!!" As I waited he turn around and gave me a dirty look. He acted as if we were bothering him to do his job plus I'm sure he is hourly so he will still get paid regardless if pizza is paid for or not. I suggest better training on customer service the staff doesn't know how to treat others. How do you expect people to go back when the staff is rude and bothered by people. read more
