I ordered an iPhone online for in-store pickup in the morning and called a few hours later to check in. I was told to wait for a confirmation email. The store closes at 8pm, so I called again around 5:30pm, gave my name and product, and after being placed on hold, was told that my order would process soon. I asked if I should just head over, and the rep told me to wait for the email. Immediately after hanging up, I received an alert that my order had been canceled due to "identity verification failure." I was never asked a single question, never sent a link to verify anything, and nothing was done on my end to confirm my identity. I called back to ask what happened, and the same rep said he didn't know. I asked to speak with a manager and was told they were busy and to call back at a specific time. When I did, I was told the manager had already left for the day. The fact that nobody looked at my order for almost 7 hours, and then canceled it without even attempting to verify anything, is ridiculous. The store still shows 1 phone left in stock, but if it really wasn't there (which is possible after that many hours), it should've been communicated instead of giving me the run-around. The lack of honesty and basic courtesy is really disappointing. On top of that, the nonchalant attitude from the employees made it even worse. It felt like they already knew they'd be off the hook soon and just wanted me to stop calling. I ended up having to call AT&T directly and order the phone over the phone, which took 1 hour--and I could've just done that from the beginning if someone had been upfront about what was happening. Zero Stars. Today I was asked to wait an hour to see a customer service rep and then told the issue I had come in to resolve could only be addressed Monday-Friday. (Yes, I explained why I was coming in BEFORE I waited an hour for customer service)- Then Joel (the store manager) preceded to ask me a dozen irrelevant questions about account and finally informed me that he could not convert my account from a Business account to a Personal account except on Monday - Friday. He did not clarify or offer an explanation. He could not explain why he asked me to wait an hour only to tell me he could not help me. I promptly called the AT&T customer service line and was quickly and respectfully serviced. It seems you CAN convert your account on a weekend day and you don't have to wait for a week. I was unnecessarily asked to wait an hour only to be told my issue could not be addressed. I was lied to by the store manager for reasons I can not ascertain. Going in to this AT&T store (or probably any AT&T store in New York City) is probably one of the most frustrating experiences a person can go through. You walk in and while the interior looks really nice, it's not worth what you're about to endure. The place is crowded with waiting customers and short on staff. Nobody takes your name so there is no established line-up. You have no idea when or if you will be seen. Once you do manage to sit down with someone, they work very quickly to sell you a phone or a plan but take forever to process your order and get you all set up in the system. And don't get me started on how they explain the charges. I was so confused and then my bill came and it looked nothing like what I thought I'd agreed to. Grrrrr. read more

I've never written a Yelp! Review before this, but here's a real shout-out to AT&T and their staff at Broadway/96th Street in Manhattan! The excellent and friendly service from the sales rep Joen and the assistant manager Aqueelah was a HUGE and refreshing difference from the awful service I had from the well-known competing carrier I've used for more than a decade. I had started the day at the competing carrier's store. My cell phone battery was nearing failure, and I was interested in buying a new phone. Their salespeople were cold and indifferent. I asked about what options would be open to me. I was told that the best price they could do for me for a new phone (but released on the market sometime back) would be $550.00 plus tax. I pointed out my many years of loyalty to their company, with both my personal and my business phone service. The sales rep was unmoved by the concept of loyalty, and she remained stone-faced. I left and I went right over to the nearest AT&T store and was helped by a bright, friendly salesperson who wasn't "salesy" at all. He asked me questions about my phone preferences. And he offered me a fabulous price for the phone that met my requirements and preferences. I am delighted with my new AT&T phone, and just as delighted by the courtesy and fine service I found at my local AT&T store. These people are great! read more

I didn't know about it until I noticed the $19.99 charge on my credit card. The same credit card I used to purchase my iPhone. Ek! Worse customer service I have ever seen. Came to this AT&T store to check out phones for upgrading. It was open 1hr later than the stores close to me so I came. Man! I dont know what was going on in there but they should be ASHAMED! This lady was vacuuming the store, BEFORE it was even close so it was difficult to check out the phones anchored on the wall. I heard an employee call a customer an ASSHOLE. Im not sure if he deserved it or not, but you should never call a customer asshole even if they truly are one- Rule #1 in customer service. I went in there 2 weeks ago to add a line to my account and Zack, one of the people working there, told me I needed a new contract. Luckily I recorded this guy because I thought it was suspicious. The individuals working in this story will lie through their teeth and are absolutely not to be trusted. They have no values whatsoever. It was only today that my contract was finally fixed (after several hours on the phone with customer service), and I was charged $200 more this month than usual -- also due to Zack's deceit. I see from the existing reviews that I don't have to add much. I think I'm done with AT&T retail stores in general. The various departments within AT&T seem completely disconnected from each other. The people on chat know nothing, the people who answer the emails are about the same, the people in the stores are not much better, and none of them acknowledge or honor any promises or offers made by the others. They might as well be different companies. The customer relations people, only reachable by phone, are a little better in that they seem to actually be trained to make the customer happy. Even they don't know what they're doing sometimes and don't properly note things in your account. My phone has stopped working, so I called this morning and was told I qualified for an upgrade and that the Moto X would be free of charge after various discounts were applied. He then asked if I wanted it mailed to me or if I wanted to go pick one up at a store. I said I'd like to go get it right away, so he told me I could go to any AT&T store, Best Buy, wherever they do wireless accounts. I double checked. "I can just go into a store and they'll know it's free of charge?" "Yes, I'm noting all of this in your account." So I went to this location an hour later, told them to look up the note, and the guy said he had to take it back and show it to the manager. I was told the customer relations people were supposed to give me a specific location so they can override it or something and that I had to pay $250 for an early upgrade. The salesman said that customer relations had told me "a bunch of mumbo jumbo." I called customer service from the store and was eventually transferred to customer relations. There was apparently "no way" to get back in touch with the person who made me these offers and had apparently not fully described everything in the notes. Customer relations did finally honor the free phone and even waived my monthly charges for March due to the hassle. I still have to wait days to receive my phone because apparently it would just make too much sense for the store to simply give me a phone today and then have the warehouse send them a replacement. AT&T really needs to work on coordinating their various sections, training everyone the same way, and deciding who has the final say in situations like this. Oh, and I never spoke to the manager at this location, though he was a few feet away from me. The salesperson kept acting as the go-between for me, customer relations, and the manager. What kind of manager refuses to directly address a customer with a problem? read more

Also had to wait twenty minutes just to have someone put me on a list of people waiting to be helped. The employees are rude, do not acknowledge customers, do not apologize for the delays they cause, and in general are lazy. To my surprise I had an excellent experience at this AT&T store. Walked in on a Saturday morning and was greeted and helped right away. There was plenty of staff on hand to help customers and all the employees came across as friendly. The employee that helped me was Zac and he was awesome. I immediately apologized to him for the fact that I wasn't there to buy anything (realizing that he probably works off of commission or incentives) and was merely there to add a phone line to a device I already owned - it didn't phase him a bit. He still gave me top notch service. Sure he told me about some warranties and other things I could buy if interested but he wasn't pushy at all and respected the fact that I wasn't buying anything that day. read more

AT&T sucks!!! The service is horrible!!! They not try to be helpful at all! And every time they gave different information and got things delayed. Would never use AT&T again. I set up the account a year ago and they told me to put down $500 deposit and I was concerned that I would not be staying in the U.S. more than 12months to get refunded automatically and the customer service told me no worries I can have it back whenever I need to as long as I inform them about my departure in advance. However, less than a year later, when I really am leaving and went to the store to ask for the release of the deposit they said they don't handle this and told me to call a number. Called the number and set up the case and they said they would contact me in less than a week. No hear back. Went back to check again, and they said they not able to refund me when the service is not yet lasted to 12 months. Then I explained and they told me then I need to cancel my account and change to a GoPhone in order to have the deposit release now. Did as they said, then, again, not able to release as they still process the case and it may take up to 2 months. WTF! I said I was leaving the country soon and that's why I need the deposit back now. They told me to contact the post office and have my delivery address changed to someone who will be handling my mail after I leave. I asked why they can't just change my billing address and they hung up on me. I spent more than 10 hours dealing with this issue and it is still not resolved. They are unbelievable. If I could give this store an infinite number of stars, I would. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by a wonderful and knowledgeable staff person. I was seen almost immediately, considering the number of people there (tip: make an appointment!). I had come in to set up my new iphone, and I had forgotten to run my icloud backup the night before. But Clement and Matt, probably two of the most patient people on the planet, waited it out with me. I've been an AT&T customer since the late 90's, and this type of customer service goes above and beyond the stratosphere. Huge props to the staffers of the 2540 Broadway location at 96th street. I can't help but think this place could be more efficient. There is a wide range of customer support here. When I had my phone set up it took about 5minutes. The time limiting factor was if you can believe it their slow in store internet service. Today I'm in the que to get my rebate for my old phone and the table next to me has two ATT service reps who have been setting up two customer phones for the last twenty minutes during which their conversation has run the gamut from clubs to case selections (she brought over about ten). There seems to be no goal of getting people in and out and addressing the que. It's as if they feel customers have all the time in the world. Manager just checked if I was still here. I'm from New Jersey and was visiting. Matthew helped me and was so accommodating, efficient and pleasant he should actually be a Manager..
