In the past five years, I have been moving between Five different cities, internationally. Just…read morebefore I moved to Detroit, I spent about a year and a half in Australia - so when I was making to move to Detroit, I really was shocked to find out that my move across the atlantic to Australia was an easier move than it was to move to Detroit!. I had never expected to run into this much trouble and meet the most horrendous customer service people in my life. It's horrible thing to say - but I really was thinking that Detroit deserves to die away and never come back. Fortunately, however, my view had changed when I got to this AT&T branch in Canton. Just a day ago, I had been turned away by a sales person at another AT&T branch, saying that I cannot get a phone without SSN - I am a Canadian student without SSN. I argued saying that I have lived in Boston about 4 years ago, and had gotten a Verizon contract without any problem - and also note that it is illegal to ask for SSN unless you are a government owned business. So when I walked in to the AT^T store near IKEA, I really was not expecting to get any help - I think I went in to use the google map on one of the phones. My first impression of Jody (Sales person) wasn't the best. He was on the phone (which really wasn't his fault), and made us wait a long time. I minded that of course, but I had to use the internet, and had to use the bathroom, so I waited. Once he was off his phone call (I think he was on hold from AT&T customer service ppl- so I definitely cannot blame him), within 20 minutes I had my phone in my hand! He knew exactly what he was doing!! He was one of those sales person who knew what they were doing. Since moving to Detroit - I have met too many sales persons who are friendly but clearly did not know how to deal with an oddity such as myself who rightfully does not have SSN. I had to put a deposit down on the phone which I will get back after a year, but I was impressed Jody could make the phone happen for me, without giving me much fuss about not having SSN. p.s: I give it a 4 star instead of 5 because I had a terrible experience with AT%T in general and just spent about 3 hours on the phone to talk to a customer service person who was absolutely horrible and useless. No fault on this branch .
