Great customer service from Bob, he really came thru in the "clutch". Pun intended. I remembered back in the 90's when I had a 1987 Nissan King Cab with a manual transmission that ATCO rebuilt it and did a good job. So I Yelped them. Glad to see 4 star reviews. I came in because the clutch on my 2007 Honda Accord EX-L was wearing down. I went to two shops before ATCO. But they just didn't seem "right". After speaking with Bob and after he diagnosed my ride, explained the situation, and the parts i was buying, I felt like this was the right place to get the work done. The clutch works great and shifts smooth. Can't complain! So why the 4 star review? Well... the day after getting the car back I heard some grinding noises coming from the axles/CV joint/CV boot area. Took it back to Bob, but go figure when we test drove the car it didn't make the same noises. Bob said if the noises come back bring it here and we'll check it out. A day or 2 later the noises came back but this time...louder and worse. I checked under the car and found something was wrong... I'm no car expert but it looked like something happened during the rebuild in that area of the vehicle. There was a lot of grease leaking from both the driver side and passenger side axle areas and it wasn't like that before the clutch job. So, I took it back to ATCO but Bob wasn't there yet. I left it with a tech named Joaquin who was very nice. Turns out something was wrong with the axles and ATCO (Bob) replaced them FREE of charge. I didn't ask many questions but I did check under the car's axles areas and everything looked brand new, and more importantly no greasy leaks and grinding noises. 5 stars for Bob himself, his customer service, and honesty. 4 stars for the shop as a whole. Sensor lights were repeatedly coming on even though my trusted mechanic of 30 years kept trying to fix it. ATCO diagnosed the problem immediately and it has been fine ever since. 3 shops later and Cole at Atco was the first to spot the problem I was facing. It was far from severe so I'm surprised no one else that's qualified figured it out. Not only that but everyone else I checked with left me under the impression that i was coming close to needing an engine swap on my 2014 rubicon. Ended up a quick, reasonably priced fix and my car was in and out of the shop in 30 minutes. I left my Corvette in the care of this shop and $800 & 3 months later after a very miserable experience with the owner my car was in the same condition it was in when I dropped it off. All I needed was a water leak fixed and a fuse replaced. My car ran great when i dropped it off. He decided to wash my car and joy ride it i guess and got the ecu wet. I know where it is and I also know that it can not get wet. It was covered in plastic and duct tape inside the fender well. So I never received a phone call or any updates or any request to do the work needed.i had to hunt Bob down (the owner) just to find out that he messed my car up. But wait it gets worse. He let me pay him 400 the first time and drive off. So assuming it was fixed I get in and the car wouldn't go over 5 miles per hour. So I call like wtf is going on? He said for 700 he could make my car run again. Remember it ran fine. I just had a hose leak. All he did was break the seal on a hose and retighten it. This is what he told me. But my car no longer worked. I was so frustrated I dropped it back off. Had my girlfriend call and find out what he did. He said the ecu got wet and they were trying to dry it off. Remember I said he washed my car. Well he took responsibility for ruining the part. A very expensive part. He refused to pay for it. And It took me 3 more months to get the part and pay him for it. Hes not registered with the BBB so they couldn't do anything. I just wanted my car back. So after all this and a lit more like him being drunk and yelling g at me like an animal. I get my car mo ths later and drive off. It ovreheats immediately. He ne er even fixed the water leak it was in the same spot it was always at.* CON ARTIST. Shady tree mechanic. I cant believe he is even in business. The worst experience ever. I regret deeply ever going to this shop. I feel sorry for the many people that probably get taken by this guy on a regular basis. I came here from the Group-On crowd. I took my car and my girlfriends car here before, and they gave no hassle or anything. They'll talk straight with you, and are old-school type of guys. 30 minutes for an oil change is fine for me, the local 7-Eleven is right down the street and I usually grab a late breakfast or early lunch while the car is being serviced. They'll give you a synthetic-blend, which I can't argue about. Can't really say anything negative. They're worth a shot. read more

Took my car here because it was running poorly.... Wound up needing a transmission rebuild which I was not surprised since it's a transmission repair shop. They did a good job with that but not with anything else. To make my car run good I took it to another mechanic that specializes in classic cars (gave 5 stars). Go here for your transmission...I would leave other repairs for other mechanics. On top of it they told me my engine needed to be completely torn apart to get rid of oil leaks and I only needed a new intake gasket and valve cover gaskets/PCV. Bought a Lexus LS400 thinking it was in perfect condition. Lol. Bob told me it needed a new tranny. It did. I was so surpised, I took it to Lexus. They said the exact same thing, and the bill was going to be about $8000. Bob did it for $2200. Runs like a Swiss Watch. He did such good work I had him do my engine mounts too because, you know, Craigslist cars.... lol. Highly recommend his work. So an unfortunate update, the 2nd time I went in for my 2nd oil change + tire rotation they were all going to lunch (they all go at once I guess), so the guy said come back after lunch and they would only have time for an oil change (not the tire rotation), ok, no biggie. I came back and they quickly did the oil change, but so quickly that they didn't top off my car's fluid's (which I thought was part of an oil change). I know this because I went in with no wiper fluid, and I came out with no wiper fluid. For my 3rd and last oil change and tire rotation of the coupon that I had bought, I decided to make an appointment so there wouldn't be any problems. Well every time I called the guy said just come in at 8am, otherwise we're too busy. I could never make it in at 8am. I even asked can I make an appointment to come in at 10am to which he said "no, we'll be too busy". Since I could never get there by 8am, and he wouldn't take any other appointment time over the phone, I dropped in one day at 11am, he said come back at 3pm and we should have time. Well, I live 20 minutes from the station so I decided to just forget about the 3rd oil change and tire rotation I purchased, figuring $33 was a good deal for the 2 oil changes + 1 tire rotation I received. I guess my summary is they are very busy, which means they are probably trustworthy because a lot of people go here to get their car's worked on, but unless you are an early morning person it will be hard to get your car serviced :-( read more

Before I go to any repair shop, I usually do a bit of research because of how many times I've gotten conned in the past. I went to BBB to check out this company and saw that they had an A+ (http://www.la.bbb.org/Business-Report/ATCO-Transmission-Inc-12180). Hmm, I thought, they must be pretty good. Being an amateur mechanic myself, I had a hunch that the problem with my car had something to do with the ignition system and/or transmission. I brought it in and described my car's symptoms. "Ralph" had a concerned look on his face and seemed to be very kind and helpful. I then left for work thinking it was in good hands. I got a call later on in the afternoon and Ralph told me that there were a number of problems with my car and that before they can even start on the real problem, they have to do numerous operations just to make sure my car is okay to drive. He said the priority, before anything else, was to replace my thermostat for my cooling system. He said it was faulty and that my cooling system was leaking heavily. I explained to him that the cooling system was worked on a few months ago (by the dealer nonetheless). I sensed surprise in his voice as he asked what was worked on. I told him everything that was replaced including hoses, the water pump, and the reservoir. He still insisted that the thermostat needed to be replaced. I told him that I'd come over. When I was there, I asked him to show me what needed to be worked on, in my car. He pointed at the thermostat and gave me a line about how the input and output are different temperatures and that it's causing my car great damage. I asked him how much it would cost just to replace the thermostat. $324. I asked for the price of the part and he said $210. I already knew the price for the thermostat from the dealer was $85 because it was one of the things they replaced. I thanked him and said that I would get a second opinion. He obviously looked disappointed. But I also told him that if the other mechanic says the same thing, I would go back to Atco to get the thermostat replaced because I came to him first. I went home and did more research. I also looked at the BBB site again and realized that it says their business started in Nov. 2009 when, from living in the area, I know that they were around for at least 5 years. This short period on BBB explains why they still have an A+. Their website (http://www.atcotransmission.com/) says they were in business since 1956. I decided to dig deeper and found several articles of the owner, Robert Wachter, being convicted of fraud (http://articles.latimes.com/1998/oct/08/local/me-30409). Looks like they're at it again and probably have been for quite a while. The next day I took my car to another shop and described the same symptoms that I described to Atco. Within a few hours, they replaced 2 ignition coils, a cam sensor and the spark plugs. After that, my car was fine. When the mechanic was done, I asked him about any coolant leaks or anything he saw about my coolant system. He told me that there are no coolant leaks and that the system was just fine. Atco Transmissions was going to con me out of $324 and that was just the beginning. If I had gone along with them on their thermostat scheme, they probably would have continued to string me along without fixing the actual problem until I was all out of money. Don't EVER go to these guys. EVER. I think the reason why they have so many people going to them is because of the seemingly concerned staff. They are very good actors and really make you feel like they care, but in the end, they're screwing you over. Edit 04/02/10: Adam F. works for these people. Owner Bob is a really good guy. The neighborhood was having an issue with a homeless person living in a broken down vehicle. The neighbors made a deal with the homeless person that if we paid to have her vehicle fixed, she would relocate to somewhere other than our curb. ATCO towed the vehicle to their garage, inspected it and offered to fix it for no charge. We the neighbors were blown away, and are deeply grateful to Bob for his kind, humane generosity. read more

I think that one of the hardest things to do in all of life is to find a good knowlegable and fairly priced mechanic. They have had plenty of opportunities to screw me or gouge me and they every time have passed each test of character. I got tired of getting screwed by the dealership mechanics, and had to find a better alternative and these guys are it. I take my F250 Diesel work truck to them. I take my F350 Gasoline back up work truck to them. I take my daughters little volkswagen commuter car to them (you know I trust them if they are working on my daughters car). I've now been local in North Hollywood for a few years and I can safely say ATCO Transmission is top-shelf and my go-to in the Valley. This is my third or fourth time here for two vehicles. Though I try to plan ahead, problems don't (which you know if you're reading this review). Bob and his team are unbelievably accommodating, down to earth, fair and fast. I don't have anything less than praise for these guys. I could not possibly recommend them more highly: there aren't enough stars. My experience with these guys was good. I feel like I was charged a fair price for my clutch replacement & I think Ralph knew hat he was talking about when discussing some other issues I should deal with soon. Another thing was a clanking sound that went away when they fixed the clutch. Another shop told me it was the strut mounts & quoted me $1800 to fix it so I was waiting to deal with that. Had a major issue with my 2003 Ford Taurus that required a transmission rebuild, but the ATCO team was there to help! They answered all of my questions with expertise and never tried to sell me on anything I didn't need. A few months later, the transmission acted up again due to a faulty part implemented during the inital rebuild. The ATCO team responded quickly and helped tow my car back to the shop free of charge. What really impressed me was their obvious dedication to the health of my car and the quality of their work. I could tell they weren't ones to rush a fix, and now my car runs better than ever! I am a guy who can do some things on my car myself, but when it comes to bigger, or complicated jobs, I outsource. I have used this facility before for another car I owned, mostly because it is in walking distance and the reviews seemed okay, I am not even going to get into why it took 3 months for me to get the top part of that engine rebuilt, for it then to have issues a year later. Bought another car, put a warranty on it, Take it in to Atco for a diagnostic for a misfire, I replaced 3 spark plugs and coils myself 2 days before I took the car to him. I also asked him to replace the 5 spark plugs I did not finish the job, took 2 days with no understanding of where the misfire is coming from, we have a heated discussion about the time it is taking to diagnose this issue, it is either a fuel, or air mixture issue, he tells me he will call me in the a.m. No call, late that afternoon, I walk up there for him to tell me it was most likely an injector..... Most likely? I tell him any warranty company is not going to pay for a might be, Bob then confirms the injector, bills my warranty company, he gets paid, no inspector sent to confirm. Takes him another 1.5 days to get my car to me because he had to outsource to get the injector coded for the car, after I threatened to take the car somewhere else to get it coded. I call the next day, noon, injector coded and it was NOT THE PROBLEM. Finds out a day later it is an O2 sensor, BILLS MY WARRANTY COMPANY AGAIN, everything paid. I ask him when I called him for an update, (because he never calls me), what do I owe you? He says nothing. I pick my car up, it is fixed. Bob calls me a few days later to say he screwed up and I have to pay $379. For what? He says my spark plugs and coil boot/ sleeve replacements. Well, I bought the spark plugs and priced the boot sleeves at $22/ each at Mercedes, he originally told me $130 for the 5 spark plugs, (I thought he did not charge me because he made the error, billing my insurance company for the wrong repair and troubleshot all of my spark plugs anyway to find the problem, that he was making up for his mess up)so I ask him how many did he replace, he said all of them, well I bought three myself the day before I took the car in, so you didn't replace those, I am saying I need to know what I am paying for, do you know he got mad at me, yelled forget it and forget him and hung up. I write this to say the mechanic there are nice, the issue is at the top, Bob wants to bill me for things he did not do and got mad because I called him on it. Good Luck read more

I took my car to Aamco and knowing my car wasn't running and i had my back up against the wall they told me the only way they could diagnose it was by ripping the transmission out. so i called these guys for a second opinion, Turns out my car is fine and i messed up during a routine change and they had to flush my fluids and replace them back to normal, all in with a tow, $113.51. When my poor little Mini Cooper got sick a few years ago (2009) a friend recommended Atco. I'm always nervous about going to mechanics, I don't know a lot about cars, and some folks have taken full advantage of that. The guys at Atco aren't like that at all. A few years ago, and ever since, they've fully explained what's going wrong with my car. They explain what needs immediate attention, and what can possibly wait for a little while longer. As someone on a budget, this is incredibly important. I love my car and always want to make sure I'm keeping it up as best I can (I don't even live in the valley anymore, but I make the drive to specifically go to them) but sometimes my wallet and bank account conspire against me. So when the guys at Atco explained pricing and necessary work to me, I don't feel like they're taking me for a proverbial ride. Also, taking your car in to get serviced or repaired is typically not how one wants to spend precious days off. Coming into Atco, I'm always greeted with a smile, the guys remember name, and they actually care about me and my baby. I don't write a lot of reviews on Yelp, but Atco's bedside manner for my sick baby inspires a five star review! Their business always makes me seem like my car and I are part of their (literal) family -- I just wish I'd inherited Bob and Cole's height! read more

I called Acura service center they said $45) + labor charged $47.50 = 137.50 ...... seriously? and my left bulb(halogen yellow... didn't even match with my right bulb(halogen blue)... what have you done with my car??
