Ordered the bite of the week which you can choose from chicken or cauliflower with blue cheese and celery. I ordered cauliflower with ranch but got chicken and blue cheese. Good thing I'm not a vegetarian I guess. Chicken bites are ... edible. The sauce is nice but the meat itself tastes like air and dry-chewy. Underwhelmed for sure. Waiter is nice though, seems. Not many people in the patio yet but I don't think I'll be staying much longer once I send this rubber appetizer back. The only positive was sitting outside on a beautiful night. Party of 9, there for a bday celebration. Told no splitting checks and automatic not 18 but 20% gratuity. Servers knew it and it showed, our food came in spurts some of us were done eating before the others even got their food, no apologies no information as to why that was, I ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer, it was fine nothing great. Order the Caesar salad with chicken for dinner $16. salad was on a dinner plate, instead of freshly shaved parm it was the kind you buy at the grocery store to sprinkle on your pasta, croutons were also the small square ones you get in a bag. Lettuce had a lot of brown edges to it. Chicken was ok,lacked any real flavor. Hubby got a flatbread said it was ok. My drink was really good,however it was Downeast Mango Cider so they didn't make it. First time here and probably the last. So disappointing. read more

Two strikes and we're done with this place. There is never anyone to seat you or greet you at the door. No sign saying to seat yourself so we've witnessed many people standing at the door not knowing what to do and never ever being acknowledged. We end up going to the bar to ask what they want us to do, which we shouldn't have to do. Last night was atrocious. We eventually seated ourselves and then we're then told food would be about 45 minutes. We said ok, no problem and ordered drinks. There was no drink menu given to us, which was annoying. The server came back around and said she couldn't put food orders in yet. Ok. We waited. After one more drink and no one acknowledging us for over 30 minutes we went up to the bar to get the bill, pay and get the hell out of there. We always tip, but tonight we didn't because why would we? When you say 45 minute wait for food that sounds like you would order and get the food in 45 minutes. Not that you can order in 45 minutes and wait longer. We ended waiting well over an hour without getting to order and decided we had enough. We even saw another table who came in after us getting food. The place is a joke. It looked like there was one bartender and one server for the inside part of the restaurant. Either they don't want to pay people to work, or people don't want to work there. When we left we walked between the buildings and down an alley to get to our car. The door to the kitchen is on that side. We saw one of the cooks sitting outside the door smoking and I on his phone with blue gloves on. That is beyond disgusting. So he cooks with those gloves on then goes outside to smoke and talk on the phone. Then goes back in and cooks with those dirty gloves. Does he use the bathroom with those gloves on too? Does he even wash his hands at all? Makes you wonder about the cleanliness of this place. We will never go back. Customers don't matter and the kitchen staff are obviously not trained in cross contamination. read more

Lived in NEPA pretty much my entire life and I've always talked about going here. Others were like "what??? You've never been?" Nope. So we decided to give it a try Saturday May 3rd to watch the Kentucky Derby. The inside is nice. It's open. 4 TVs on one wall and 2 on the other. Plenty to watch any sporting event. Just ask and they will change it for you. Great selection of beers on tap. Our bartender was nice. We started with beers and placed an order of the General Tsos cauliflower wings and the spinach dip. I wasn't in the mood for the pita bread so we asked if they could give us tortilla chips instead. No problem. Our apps arrive. Pita bread no chips. Zero issues. They got us a bowl of chips also. Spinach dip was really good. Not enough though. It's a small bowl. I did try the pita bread and it was ok. A little too salty for me. It was seasoned with I believe Italian seasoning and grated parm or Romano. Not sure which. The cauliflower? Eh. I was expecting it to be crispy. It was soggy as soggy. Seemed like day old cooked cauliflower. It was swimming in the sauce. Waaaaaaay to much. We were going to order a flatbread as well but this is where it took a big turn. One of the workers who was waiting on tables as well as bartending was conversing with 2 people sitting at the bar. Every other word was the F word. Now I'm not a prude and I use the word as well but I don't yell it nor use it in every sentence. Especially in public. It was uncomfortable. The 3 of them seemed like they were getting paid for using the f word. Now I thought this place was a little bit classier than what I witnessed. Maybe it's not? Just classless. Not everyone enjoys listening to 3 people talk like sailors while trying to have a relaxing evening. Anyway. I will prob give it one more shot. Prob will grab a table instead of sitting at the bar or sit outside on the patio. We ended up at our favorite place. The 16th Ward. I really enjoy this place. The staff are great. That being said, I wouldn't come here expecting fine dining. It's a bar with bar food that is hit and miss. In their defense, everyone is trying to figure out the world post Covid (not that we are completely post Covid but we're getting there) so I'll keep supporting them while they figure it out. I did see a review commenting on the pricey drinks. That is absolutely correct. For downtown Pittston, the drinks are quite expensive. I'd expect this in center city Philadelphia but not in Pittston. I ordered cauliflower bites( sold out) so the chicken bites it was. My husband ordered shrimp skewer. Both just sucked. The bites are hard to describe. It was garlic /parm. I got blue cheese in a mini cup and garlic "sauce" on plate. Tasted rancid. Asked for BBQ sauce thinking it my improve but no. The shrimp skewer was barley warm and limp. We also ordered fries which were the best thing. They used to come in a cone and now seved on a plate. Very crowded but server was good. We did enjoy our drinks. We picked a wonderful day to sit outside on the patio. NOT. It started to drizzle as we ordered drinks, so we were forced to move inside. There were several items on the menu that caught my eye. I can't eat an entire cow (even though I was VERY hungry), so I narrowed it down to two cows and told the waiter to pick one. The Sonoma Burger or Inferno Burger. Which did I get? ...Sonoma Burger. Boy was I impressed. This burger came with roasted tomato, avocado, brie, pickled onion, and lettuce. The meat was very juicy. You could tell it wasn't frozen meat. The pickled onions really made this burger. Highly impressed. I also had a trio of fries on the side, which consisted of three different types. Never saw this anywhere. Great idea. If you wanna know what kinds of fries, guess you'll have to go and find out for yourself! For dessert, we tried the Chocolate Bombe, which is chocolate genoise, white and dark chocolate mousse, and a chocolate ganache coating AND the Bread Pudding, which comes with fresh and whipped cream on the side. We went there last week for the first time. We sat at the bar and were asked if we had a credit card to start a tab. We ordered drinks and later a pizza and another round of drinks. When we got our check we were then told that there's a surcharge for using a credit card plus the bill was not itemized so there was no telling what you were charged for. Today I got my credit card bill and I was charged twice, once for our bill which I signed for and another that I have no idea whose I'm being saddled with. Fair warning to all! read more

Awesome addition to downtown Pittston. Very different from any other restaurant in the area. The menu is unique and the food does not disappoint. Pair the amazing food with a great beer selection and you've got a winning combination. The grilled cheese is a must try. Nice crunchy bread with a blend of cheeses and tomato. The zesty crab mac and cheese was also good and worth trying, but the crab got lost in the dish. Burgers have a great flavor and the blend of meat in the patty really makes it shine. Fries are awesome and be sure to ask for a side of the spicy ketchup which comes with the fry platter but not the dishes. Not sure why they don't automatically include it with each dish instead opting to up charge the customer for it. Still totally worth it. Hopefully more restaurants like this will start popping up with the revitalization efforts in downtown Pittston. Would love to see the city become a hot spot for dining. read more

This place is been in Pittston for quite some time and I've never been able to stop in for lunch or dinner. Recently I went here with some coworkers. What a great hidden gem in Pittston. First I have to say every time I've tried to come here it's always closed the tomato bar and Grill has very weird hours. This had me a little nervous because I thought the food might not be as good because they're not open all day but Man was I wrong. There are three seed options at the tomato bar and Grill The first option is you can sit inside you can also sit outside and you can sit upstairs and look out over the town The ambience inside is very nice they have a full bar. I noticed everybody from people just getting off work eating two people on dates. What I like about this place is that they do everything fresh and as homemade as possible. I ended up getting a crispy chicken sandwich which you could tell was hand breaded and it was very good. After asking the waitress what she recommended she told me that the mac & cheese is a must. I got the side of the macaroni and cheese and I was very impressed it was good and I could taste the different layers of cheese in every bite. That little bit of macaroni and cheese in the picture is enough for an entire meal. For dessert I have the double chocolate mousse. It was very good and I could tell that it was hand carved. I ended up running into somebody that I knew that was eating at the tomato bar and Grill and they told me that the menu changes quite frequently here. Worst restaurant experience I've ever had. My husband ordered wing bites and fries and I ordered a Stromboli. Took about 20 minutes for my husband to get his food, which is fine. Took 40 minutes from that point for them to tell us the oven wasn't working and they couldn't make my Stromboli (after we asked multiple staff for an update on my food and were told by our waitress it would be out "in a few seconds"). Ended up just having it taken off our bill and I left without getting food. Will never go back. read more

I grew up in this area, so I got to watch this bar come up. It's always been gorgeous, one of the nicest atmospheres in the area. Food has always been subpar BUT came back for the first time in 2 years and the food was amazeballs. Gen Tso's chicken bites were littty and my friend got the truffled garlic buffalo bites. Let me start by saying I've been here many times over the years. Why? Really just happy hour and convenience. Food is decent quality with some care taken for vegetarians but a tad pricey for bar food. Also unfortunately they do not include fries with your $13 burger even though they used to. That is a deal breaker for me. Yes it's only fries but to me it's like serving chicken parmigiana and charging extra for pasta. It's a potato for crying out loud. Beer/draft list is hit or miss. Lately they've been heavy on fruit/flavored beers and IPA's. Need more iconic beer staples American and foreign on tap. One thing that has remained a constant over the years is the horribly spotty customer service. It's a bit whimsical and disorganized. It's like you arrived at someone's party and they greet you, offer a drink and then get lost in a conversation on the way. All of this happens when they're not the least bit busy. Sit at the bar if you want consistency. I'm an understanding customer and don't like to complain but I'm not the only one that feels this way as evidenced by other comments and this happens the majority of the time I stop in. I'd give them three stars if they didn't charge for using cards and threw in fries like 90% of other establishments. Maybe 4 if the service was decent. So much to say - we waited over 2 hours for food and over 30 mins for a drink. We had 3 different waitresses until we begged the hostess aka running man to please help us!! Yikes! What an awful experience my friends and I had here last weekend. I was anxiously awaiting trying this place out, but having moved to Philly a year ago it was not so easy. However, I came in for The Office Wrap Party in Scranton and planned my night around getting here for dinner and drinks with my girlfriend and a few other friends. We stood like idiots near the entry for a few minutes trying to determine if we seat ourselves or not. Then, a group of people already sitting at a table said that we can seat ourselves. So, we sat down and waited a few minutes but still no waitress came to our table. Then, a group of 5 or 6 older people came in and were greeted by a waitress almost immediately and they sat at a table right next to us. We figured this meant we'd finally get service...wrong! After taking drink orders for that table and even coming back and fixing one man's drink because it apparently wasn't up to his standards, the waitress still hadn't acknowledged the fact that a group of people were sitting there with no drinks or menus. A second waitress came to check on that same table, which was when I decided I was going to order directly from the bar. I made eye contact with numerous people behind the bar when they weren't talking to each other, and I had money in my hand (a tell-tale sign I'm ready to go here!) and still nothing! I went back to the table after a few minutes to see that there was still no success at the table for my friends, either. I guess it's possible we had all accidentally dressed in our invisibility cloaks that night or that I dreamed up this entire experience, but I'm ALMOST positive neither of those things happened. Maybe they can't see people who are under the age of 30?! The place is beautiful and the menu (which I found online) looks amazing, as does the beer selection. I also believe that the same people running this business also own Brews Brothers and Saints and Sinners, two places I have gone to numerous other times (and ironically ended up at Saints after this failed experience). But, if you're going to charge the prices in place here, it's important to actually wait on people to make any money. Went to Tomato Bar on a Thursday night with a group of 6 and was very impressed. Our service was excellent, there was a good beer and cocktail selection, and the food was unique and delicious. I shared the zesty crab mac and cheese and the grilled cheese sandwich with my boyfriend and both were outstanding. The mac and cheese itself was creamy and delicious and the peppers, tomato, corn and crab was a very good combination. The crab wasn't necessarily the best I've had, but it was good and the dish overall was very enjoyable. The grilled cheese was perfection, with a blend of 5 cheeses and tomato grilled in duck fat it was mouth watering and very satisfying. The sandwich came with a trio of french fries, which were seasoned and also very good. Definitely ask for their spicy mango ketchup to dip them in! The others at my table also enjoyed their dishes. The ribs and mac had great flavor and the Sonoma burger looked fantastic. For dessert we shared the bread pudding and the chocolate bombe. The desserts were rich but not too huge and were made in house. A great end to a fantastic meal and overall experience. I would definitely return. read more

The bartender that wears make up like a tranny had the worst service on mother earth. She forgot our order and after we reminded and the food came after a long wait the food didnt look anything as what the menu said, not only that but when we asked she was like " the kitchen ran out of it" without even mentioning before, and with a nasty attitude. The revitalization of downtown Pittston Pennsylvania, is ever closer with the addition of this bar and eatery. I'm back in my hometown area, visiting and my sister said she was itching to try this new place, on account of all the beer they have on tap. The space is comfortable and certainly looks as if they picked it up out of bustling downtown in (place big city name here). Service was friendly and fast. Our hostess and servers did a good job with a child's special order (my niece) and knew about the menu as we made our choices The duck confit appetizer I ate was good. Not great, but good. Stopped by late one night for a final drink and some food. Everything on the menu sounded great but we weren't too hungry - opted for the fried green tomato appetizer with blackberry marscapone and smoked salmon and the mixed fries with spicy ketchup. Both were very tasty. My friend thought the fried green tomato was a little to gourmet for her, but I very much enjoyed the mix of flavors. They also have a full bar and I opted to try their Bloody Mary (made with their homemade bloody mary mix) - a bit too much horseradish for me but tasty. We sat on the patio but really would have liked to sit on the upper patio with the mural of the solar system with the tomato as the center of the universe. Guess that will be for the next visit, which there definitely will be a future visit here! I'm very glad to see this caliber of restaurant in the newly revitalized downtown and hope to see others like it in the future. read more

My wife and I have been here a few times now. We are in the neighborhood and it's a quick walk down the road. There is a good beer selection (my kind of place) and the prices are reasonable. The food is pretty good though the menu is a bit limited. We stopped in the first week or two the Tomato Bar was open, and we thought the light menu was just a starter, due to the doors just being cracked open. Turns out, it was their full menu. It isn't terrible by any means, but doing a burger (great burger by the way) 6 different ways, shouldn't be 1/4 of your menu. But again, food was great. They serve food pretty late. On to the service. I have been here both when it is really busy and when....well when it is not so much busy. I always had good service. Bartenders and wait staff were prompt, and didn't leave me hanging in want of a frosty beverage or a slip of paper to cash on out with. Ambiance. Well it was mixed to say the least. Nice and quiet with the subtle murmur of voices and clanking flatware, to some drunk guy yelling about the terrible music on the juke box (not saying that guy was me, but there is a possibility). I do really dig the exposed duct work on the ceiling and the layout of the actual bar. I can not comment on the patio, as it was either blazing hot, or a tid-bit nipply out every time I happen to swing by. All and all, Tomato Bar gets my vote. I love northeast PA, but it definitely has its flaws. One of those flaws is if you want to go out to eat for foods like a burger or fried chicken; you're only choice is terrible chain. Recently, a friend told me that Tomato Bar had a burger that was mixture of Kobe beef, brisket and chuck. I was interested. I finally stopped in. First and foremost, the restaurant has a bar in the center. It's not exactly welcoming for families. But it's wasn't a rowdy bar scene and once seated the bar seemed to disappear. There was only one waitress on tonight. This is where chains should take notice, one hard-working waitress is better than four lazy ones. Finally, the food. The three potato fry mix was great and the burger. Yep, it'll ruin you for other burgers in the Wilkes-Barre area. It's about the same price as Red Robin, except with great food and great service. A kid's menu would be a nice welcome. Now if I could find a place that makes good fried chicken. read more
