For a super affordable meal OTP that left me full and satisfied-Athens deserves the 5 stars. I ordered the falafel sandwich and it cost $6 and change. The pita wrap was the freshest softest pita I can recall. The falafel was spiced perfectly and not dry. The falafel was also moist but not dripping in oil. Instead of huge chuncks of tomato & cucumber- this sandwich had petite diced veggies which I vastly perfer. There is a casual dining area so you can dine in if you feel like getting out of the house. Athena's is always good. I've had one mishap and the was with my most recent order but everyone's entitled to a day from time to time. I've had nothing but exceptional service up to that point. The salad was too mushy and drenched in salad breading but every other time is has been perfect and fresh. The ambiance leaves much to be desired but when going to Athena's you know it's for the food and not so much the dining in aspect. I recommend to all my neighbors. read more

Delicious! We would eat here again! The hummus was creamy and the pita was soft and fresh. We enjoyed two Greek salads, one with gyro and one with chicken schwarma. Tahini and taziki sauces were yummy too. The spanikopita was an additional special treat. Located beside a gas station, it doesn't look like much from the outside as some other reviews have already noted. The service is nice, friendly, downhome. Our meals were ready fairly quickly. The food was solid, good flavors & portions. There are quite a number of choices for meals, including vegetarian options. The decor is interesting inside. Well, if you're not familiar with this place you might be taken aback. So, here's my recommendation. Review the menu before arriving. Drinks are separate and the selection is weak, no fountain drinks. You order at the counter, have a seat and check on it (at the counter) when you hear a bell ring. Everything is at the counter so make sure you grab what you need before leaving or you'll have to go back. The clientele are authentic. The location may be conveniently located right off HWY 78, but behind a Citgo gas station makes it less appealing. The place is clean, the food is fresh and authentic, and the portions match the price. You can watch belly dancing on the wall via a projector. Love their food. I have sampled most of their menu and have yet to be disappointed. The gyros are large and filling. The chicken gyros is the best in the area. They can get a little backed up with orders though so sometimes you have to be patient. It is worth it though. I was recommended to visit by a close family friend. I opted for the Falafel Salad. The salad consisted of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, black olives and, of course, falafel. I would say it also had feta cheese, but I truly don't think the cheese was actually feta. It lacked the sharp flavor feta normally has and was, instead, quite bland. The dressing was a bit on the salty side for my taste, but the falafel was superb; a generous portion, flavorful and not the least bit dry -- which can happen easily with falafel. I am shocked by all the great reviews for this place. This was our first/only visit to this restaurant. We came here on the recommendation of a friend who said they have the best Gyros. First of all, the girl who took our order was not at all friendly. No smile, no interaction. I think we may have been bothering her by coming to this restaurant. I am a big fan of great customer service and I certainly didn't receive it today. Secondly, the meat on my Gyro was very dry. There were a couple of good pieces, but mostly dry flakes. I have not eaten Gyros all over the world but these were definitely NOT the "world's best gyros" as they advertise. Thirdly, the interior was kind of ridiculous. All the décor was a mess. Lots of different tables, chairs, booths everywhere. Lots of strange lights, things hanging from the ceiling, paintings on the walls. It just bothered me. Lastly, when we were leaving an employee came out to the parking lot with a plastic bag and was buying bread out of a car trunk from some lady!! Yes, a car trunk. The bread was put in the bag with serving tongs but the bread was not covered with anything in the trunk. Then she shut the car trunk, with the bread uncovered. Did I mention there was uncovered bread in a car trunk?? I am hoping the bread is for the employees own personal consumption and is not being served to any customers. But whoever is eating that bread is gross. It was uncovered in a car trunk! Maybe the employee was having a bad day and that is why she was not friendly.
