    Athens Pizza
    Michael C.

Great friendly service at the front counter and a robust menu to choose from. Today I went with the Athens Pizza. Can't wait to try more next time I pass through Seattle.

Walked over here to try. Everything was really good and super chill here during the summer. The waiter(s) was super cool and kind about ordering. Helped us out a whole lot. Got the special Athen's pizza and the spaghetti with meatballs. Cooked to perfection and deliciousness. Even my dad enjoyed the food. Thanks for a great time! Would come back again with better transportation instead of walking. :)))

Athens 14" pizza was very good.

I live in Wesley homes in the north end of Des Moines and wanted to grab a quick pizza. Athens is about as close as it gets, right in the heart of Des Moines on Marine View Drive. I ordered an Athens 14" over the phone and it was ready in 15 minutes on a Friday night about 7:30PM. The restaurant is in a small strip of three stores next to a vape shop. The inside is very spartan and not very inviting with harsh fluorescent lights so I am not inclined to want to eat-in there. The pizza was ready on time and when I got it home, I briefly reheated the slices in my microwave and it was very good. The other menu selections looked interesting. We had 4 slices each and had 4 slices left over so the 10" would probably be more than enough for 2 people.

    Pastrami Grinder.

A friend of mine introduced me to the BEST grinder sandwich I've ever had. I didn't know I liked pastrami until I had this one. Bread is toasted perfectly and a wonderful combination of flavors for each bite. Staff is always friendly.

Baked Ravioli with Meatballs in Marinara Sauce
    My L.

All right, I saw the previous bad reviews but was told by a reliable source that their baked lasagna is legit good! So I came in with my friend during weekday lunch hours. My friend got the baked lasagna and I chose the meatball ravioli in marinara sauce. Now , these entrees are reasonably priced ($15.95 per) and also come with a side of salad/ soup and garlic bread. We opted only for garlic breads. The meals came out in pretty large portions and piping HOT! Everything was well seasoned with a little kick to it. Ravioli was cooked well but not soggy-soft. My friend's lasagna was perfect according to him. Garlic breads were fresh and crispy, but I didn't taste much garlic to them at all unfortunately. Service was very friendly and attentive as well. All in all, I will come back. It's a decent spot if you're ever craving some semi Italian comfort food.

    Athens special pizza

Still just as amazing! How more people don't know about Athens, I'll never know! Crave-worthy food! Family-style service.

one star service. ordered over $50 worth of food for pick up, my server was jazmin, on 8/26/24 around 7pm, we ordered spaghetti and salad, and Jazmin our server gave us zero utensils. actually how do you expect us to wat spaghetti and salad with zero utensils? one star service. Jazmin needs to be retrained or fired and whoever hired jazmin needs to really reconsider who they hire on their team. one star service.

Really good pizza! This was taken out. Another time I had a sandwich which was also tasty, and the service was great.

The drink was average nothing exciting to write about, the server came back to top off my drink bc it was presented in a smaller martini glass and he couldn't fit it all in the first run around - which is fine. The calamari came with fries, weird, but fries were very good! Crisp and light, just how I like my fries to be. The breading on the calamari was too excessive. I wasn't feeling it and so was my husband. My seafood spaghetti was good but nothing to wow about. My husband got the steak wrapped prosciutto, he said it was not bad but also wasn't steakhouse quality. To wrap this up, we probably won't be back. But it's nice to support your local small businesses at least once, don't you think?

The Valentine's reservation had me nervous because I figured it would be long and drawn out with the amount of couples that were probably booked and we had a show to get to. Well, the service was great and we didn't have a long wait for any of our dishes or drinks at all. We chose to sit in the bar area because it seemed more cozy and I prefer a taller table when they're available. We tried the meatball appetizer and that was so filling I could only have one. It was hot and flavorful. Then for my entree, I chose the scallops. They were huge! There were 3 at the top and one underneath the pasta some. I would get that again. I didn't even need to eat much of the pasta because the vegetables and scallops were plenty. The server said she was pretty new, but you'd never know it by her service. She even gave good wine recommendations for our tastes.

And with the bad, I strive to be positive on the experience that was good before giving suggestions or letting the owner know what fell short. I'm never out to bash a business. Rather, as an owner, if you pride yourself in customer service, you will take what a sincere Yelp Elite reviewer has to say, step back and see how you can improve. I just read the comments another reviewer posted a few days ago and saw that they were berated as well. I had nothing to gain from giving the review I did and it's unfortunate that you're no longer going to be in business, but there were two other people with me that came to this consensus. With that, I will reply to the unfortunate remarks slammed at me, the reviewer. Let me preface by saying I asked for a pic with the owner before tea service started. If it was said that we had a wonderful and lovely time, it was not by me but one of my friends who, when asked how everything was, couldn't think of anything else to say. Also, I wasn't going to express all of this in front of the owner at the time because I had others with me. So, to rebel and ask me if my mother is still alive and did she teach me to behave like this? Well, all I can say is your reaponse as a business owner is extremely childish and unprofessional. I didn't make the food. I reviewed it and if that means it's not the best review, so be it. It pains me not to give a business owner a good review because that's not what we as Elite members strive for. That said, lashing out is not the answer. At least I have the maturity and diplomacy to put these comments in without getting into a mud fight like you chose to do. Review..... My two girlfriends and I came here for afternoon tea. Since I'm the Yelp reviewer, I asked them for their input and so it was a consensus of the three of us. Here's what went right. It was nice to have a carafe of water at our table, there were beautiful flowers and dyed water to match in the vase, the teacups and saucers were very pretty, the owner was extremely nice. Here's what we thought needed a second look. The sign in the store advertised cheese and fruit for the afternoon tea but it didn't appear. When we asked we were told it didn't come with it but we could get some if we wanted. Please revise the sign as people do notice. Suggest you have a selection of three sandwiches rather than two of each. One was a small croissant filled with egg salad and if we hadn't been told that we thought it might be chicken. The other was a cucumber sandwich which although it's nice to have thin slices of cucumber, these were razor thin. Sort of disappointing that there was so little on a beautiful piece of bread. They scones were nothing special. Perhaps have something inside whether it be cranberry, currant etc. The sweets consisted of a Mexican wedding cake which was rather dry and was there a detection of almond extract? The orange macaron, as beautiful as it was, lacked flavor of orange. I was expecting a nice burst of something but it just wasn't there. The fondant on the petit four was much too thick, and sweet. Whatever fashion the raspberry is used, keep a bit of that tart flavor to offset the sweetness from the fondant. The effort was there, things just felt short.

After 7 nights of cruise food, we were ready to try something new and local. Sharp's was only 5 minutes from our hotel, and highly rated, so I figured we would give it a shot. We arrived at the restaurant to a full parking lot with people standing outside. However, when we went in, the wonderful hostess informed us there was no wait. The seater showed us to our table, and chatted with us about our day along the way. He also explained the 3 menus that he gave us, and informed us we were right in time for happy hour. Our server, Sam, greeted us promptly, and she was so incredibly welcoming to our family, answering questions about the menu items. It was so hard to decide what to order, so we ordered several small plates (Brisket nachos, Wings, Brisket tacos, fries, and mac and cheese, along with the complimentary cornbread). To our surprise, everything came out so quickly. This was probably the fastest service I've ever had at a restaurant. The servers who delivered our food were friendly and welcoming as well. Not only that, EVERYTHING we ate was phenomenal. The fries were flavorful and perfectly salted, the wings were fantastic, and the brisket nachos? Wow....the brisket was some of the best we've ever had, and the nacho chips even stood out. The biggest compliment is from our 15 year old who said that the mac and cheese is some of the best pasta she's ever had. Throughout the whole meal, Sam was so attentive and chatting with us about the restaurant and dessert options. I truly enjoyed everything about our experience. The food and service both were top notch. The only thing I didn't like about this restaurant is that I'll have to book another flight to Seattle from Michigan to eat there. I'll be recommending it to everyone I know though!
