Going to an event nearby, we decided to swing by for a quick dinner. We got seated right away, despite most tables being full already. Parking is easy since there is an entire lot shared with a few other stores nearby. We got there Spaghetti with meatballs, pastistio, and side salads. The pastistio was not as flavorful and a bit on the dry side. Meatballs weren't bad but the pasta was definitely cooked in large batches in advanced. Salads were okay. Overall, we had a pleasant experience. It was a casual and comfortable place. The food is a very Americanized Italian rendition but fairly priced. Staff were friendly despite being very busy. This restaurant looks, feels, and tastes like it's stuck in the 90s, and not in an endearing way. The food was surprisingly bland. I eat a lot Greek/Mediterranean and this has to be the most Americanized version I've ever tasted. I should have known, as there wasn't a single person among the staff or in the kitchen that looked Greek and the manager was certainly South Asian. I find that quite odd, given that the entire premise of this restaurant is Greek Authenticity (see website). The only thing that felt slightly worth the money was the spinach pie and pizza. I really think they should just stick to serving pizza, honestly. The spinach pie was truly delicious, but the pizza was nothing to brag about. The crust tasted like standard white bread. I wasn't sure if it was handmade or previously frozen. I base pizza/crust ingredient quality on whether or not I experience heartburn after, and this led me straight to heartburn city :( They also gave us a spoon to serve the pizza with which was tacky and shows that this place cuts corners. Nothing else purchased (see pictures) was worth talking about. The only thing I remember about the side bread and side salad was that the oil they use for the base of the sauce tasted horrible and was overpowering. I couldn't finish it. The ambience felt like an IHOP (no shade to IHOP). It is barely clean. And it took such a long time just to get our drink orders. Our server was the manager and the service was just not good. I will say that there was mostly an older crowd in the restaurant, presumably people who've been regulars here since the restaurant opened and hopefully experienced better days. They seemed to enjoy it. I just don't see how else this place stays open, but I can see it being nostalgic for some people as it's been around for a long time. This food was very good! I visited this location for their Friday lunch special and it did not disappoint. It included two dishes that I've never had before, mousaka and pastitsio. I can honestly say they were very flavorful and tasty! It also included garlic bread and a big salad, all for $14. It was more than enough to last me multiple meals. I'm so mad. I was hungry and had a penchant for pasta so I pulled into this place after seeing them out of the corner of my eye. Glass of sweet tea was dirty on the outside. Knife had food still stuck on it and the napkin my silverware was wrapped in. Greek salad had hair in it. Baked spaghetti didn't have enough marinara on it and she knew that when she handed it to me so she went back and grabbed some more. I was so hungry but I did want to eat any more hair. We made a to-go order. They told us it would be ready in 20 minutes. Our gps said 21 minutes and by the time we parked and went inside they 7 more minutes. My partners hero wrap was good as was his side salad. My Greek salad with chicken no so good. Some of the lettuce had turned brown and there was a fair amount of water in the container. Very little feta cheese. The side salad actually had more and the dressing was mostly oil very little vinegar and seasoning. Again the side salad dressing was perfect. I came here with my family as Athens pizza has traditionally been a great place to eat. The waitress was very nice and on point. Ambiance very casual with the greek and or mediterranean paintings on the wall . My chicken and potatoes were great but the green beans lacked flavour and were tasteless maybe needed spice? Also the waitress had too much perfume on some patrons like my aunt have heightened sensitivity to it. Anyway, all things considered still a good place to eat in Dekalb county. read more

My @diningoutatl Passbook is my go to method of trying New restaurants in the city and surrounding areas. Last night I tried @athenspizza for the first time and I can definitely see why it's a neighborhood favorite. @athenspizza clearly has a regular crowd. Each evening offers a different special. Monday was "Baked Spaghetti" ; which was ordered. I also wanted to try the Mediterranean Pizza and ordered a small 6in. The pizza was absolutely delicious and the crust was divine! The spaghetti contained mushrooms which I enjoyed but, if you don't like them you'll need to request for them to be omitted. Great food and friendly service! I'll definitely be back! read more

I was craving some good Athenian cooking so I paid a visit to the Athens Pizza restaurant on Clairmont Road near the Emory campus. Great parking and easy access to the restaurant. This is a family owned business which caters to the locals most of which are affiliated with Emory. There prices are very reasonable and the portions do not disappoint. Pizza is their specialty but I go for other Greek dishes. The restaurant is large with belly dancing accommodating a crowd when they have it. Call to see the days and hours. The menu includes plenty of choices for a do it yourself pizza, or you can opt for a pita wrap. their lamb and beef which is roasted on a tall skewer is juicy and tender. Love their tzatziki sauce. Service is always with a smile. This particular night I brought my food home. It was well packaged and what was hot could have been reheated in the aluminum lined to go box. But there was no need. The salad which comes with the meal as well as a piece of spanakopita, were both delicious. read more

I can only speak for the takeout but I thought it was just okay, not really anything special. I got the chicken kabob platter and I thought that the pita was great but nothing else was that good. The chicken had an okay seasoning but was a little overcooked. I wanted fries and got Greek potatoes instead that had a good seasoning but was not what I ordered. Hometown and childhood neighborhood family owned business and a true favorite. The Baker's Pride style stone ovens and the texture and rise on the Athens pizza dough hits my delight buttons! This is not NY style pizza, nor should it ever be. Flavorful thicker crust, topped with quality Greek style toppings. Love to get the shaved gyro beef and onions on every pie I order. I've visited here before. The food is good. They have a gyro platter that comes with potatoes. It might be a option to get fries I'm not sure. This doesn't come with a drink neither. I ordered a 10-in pepperoni pizza and a small Greek salad for delivery . The pizza was very dry and the quality was not what I expected . The Greek salad ($6) was very small . Maybe five bites and whole salad was gone . Also I noticed they charged me a fee of $8 for tip and delivery. The restaurant is literally six blocks away from my home . My husband and I have been regular patrons of Athens Pizza and the quality has always been great! My husband swears they have the best pizza in Atlanta. His family on his mother's side is Greek and he says the food tastes very authentic. The pizza is deep dish style with a nice, flakey crust and delicious cheese topping. My favorite dish is the Chicken Tetrazini. We love to support family businesses, especially in big cities. Two of my grandchildren (Olivia & Margaret) live in the Decatur area and we often take them out to eat here. The restaurant is always very friendly toward them. The girls adore the pizza here! The restaurant is very large and plenty spacious. They have a lovely mural of Greece toward the back of the restaurant and nice Greek pillars to tie in the cuisine's culture. The seating is comfortable and they are very accommodating when my book club sometimes comes to eat there. Sometimes it seems they may be a little bit short of staff, but I know they do their best! This is a traditional Mom and Pop restaurant with friendly service and big portions. It has been here for 40 years at least and you can tell the crowd are regulars. Young families, single older people were all here when we came here for a late lunch/early dinner on a Friday afternoon. Lunch specials on weekdays until 4 pm and they are surprisingly large portions in this day and age. I had the moussaka/pastitio combo lunch which comes with salad, a huge piece of spinach spanakopita salad and garlic bread. We ordered calamari as appetizer and pita bread because the kids like plain pita bread. My daughter got a hot sandwich, my son Ordered the dinner size portion of baked spaghetti which I swear has a hint of nutmeg, and husband got a gyro sandwich with potatoes. We got a piece of baklava for dessert which was huge and delicious. My husband and I ate leftovers for lunch the next day as it was so much food! We ordered a medium Athens Special pizza which has pepperoni, ground beef, onion, green peppers, and sausage. The pizza was very good with the right amount of toppings. This place had an authentic Greek feel for sure: decor & staff. At 6 PM on a Monday, this place was pretty filled with older folks and families alike. Our friend, the hubs, and I all agreed to get the Mediterranean pizza which had feta cheese, some extra cheese (yum), gyro chunks, thin tomato slices, and black olives. The ingredients were fresh as the pizza came out piping hot. The olives made the pizza super salty though so watch out. I don't think I've ever had a Greek pizza, and this was different. I liked how it was almost without much sauce on a pretty thin pizza bed with a tad thicker crust. The hubs' work place have ordered from this place a couple of times, and he has always liked it. Having it fresh though, it was really good. For $21.50, we were able to consume about more than half of the pizza. So the 16" def can feed 3 adults with a few slices left over. My experience is right around a 3.5 so I'll round up as this is a pretty authentic Greek place. read more

Athens pizza has been a family favorite for the last few years. My family is Greek and this is the most authentic restaurant in the Decatur/Druid Hills area. However, the quality of customer service has significantly declined since we first started eating at Athens (even pre pandemic). I'm not one to complain about customer service unless it is consistent visit after visit. The staff seems uninterested to provide a great experience overall. In our most recent visit, after waiting for quite a while to begin with, the server told us she would only be taking our drink orders only and we had to wait to order food. We waited over 20 minutes just to get our orders in. I should mention it was a weeknight and there were just a few tables being served. However, the food is consistently good. Their gyros are delicious, the pizza reminds me of the Greek pizza restaurants I used to go to in New England. The crust is really flavorful and buttery, and the toppings are always fresh (and they don't skimp on the toppings). If you are willing to look past the customer service, then I would say this is the place for you. read more
