I call CS on wednesday, 9th July asking for the non recycle garbage pick up because I was out of town and these guys did not pick up these garbage on the last pick up on 4th of June. They only picked up the recycle garbage and the bin. They told me they will come to pick up on wednesday, if not, I will have to call back on Thursday. They did not come so I called back again on Thursday. they gave me a confirmation number saying they will come to pick up on Friday. I wait until now and does not see anyone coming so I call them again they tell me that there was someone to already pick up on Wednesday 11h45 so they could not send the driver to pick up even though they have not even returned the recycle bin so how come anyone has come? even the ones on Thursday mentioned that they would come on Friday. These people should be tarred & feathered. I live in an apartment and these morons are too lazy to put the bins back in the trash room so they pose a hazard to cars trying to park. They also insist on sticking a paper cup on the garage door sensor, which breaks it. Our trash bin was broken and it took literally months for them to replace it, but they did so with one that is half the size of what's needed, so now we have garbage spilling out onto the floor. Now Late into the evening, I think they are using one guy to do all three routes. Plus trash form this style truck is all over the street, up and down the block. My home is at the bottom and curve in the road so the wind brings all of the trash right up into my property. and they were sending a sweeper weekly, the day after pick up but the same guy driving three routes just find the time to do a 4th in the same day. I have been TRYING TO CANCEL my $200 a month service with them for the last few months I have now been FINED by the city for having multiple services. Every single time I call I am told "ONLY TANYA V can help you, she will call and get back to you." But she she never does. The city of RIVERSIDE made a huge mistake by allowing Athens Trash Services to take over their city trash service when Burtec had really great service. Calling Athens to get anything done you have to speak to a call-center and you don't get any definitive answers. It is beyond frustrating trying to work with this company. Even asking to speak to a supervisor you get a 'Call-Center supervisor and they still don't have the proper authority to accomplish what you desire. Topsy Turvy: I began service asking for a permanent residential dumpster. They charge so much more than Burtec for a smaller sized dumpster. - The dumpster was delivered almost a week late - They delivered it placing it on my lawn - They couldn't empty it due to how it was placed on my lawn with their 14 ton truck - They kept balling me out for where the dumpster was placed, but I wasn't even home when they delivered the dumpster. - Days later they sent a smaller truck with lifts and drove over my lawn to move the dumpster - They placed the dumpster on the street and said, "This is a good place for it." - Code enforcement came to my door today as the dumpster is not allowed on the street I called Athens getting the Call Center and it is a disaster trying to: 1. Close my account: Can't do it! 2. Have someone pick up my dumpster: Can't do it! ... No definitive resolution calling their main number which gives you their 'Call Center'. read more

Very spotty service. Sometimes fine. Other times miss emptying, particular organics. Tuesday was my pick up and the barrel was half full, so I called Wednesday at 7 am. They said they would send some out and gave me a work order number 19726744. When this happened before, a truck was usually out by noon, so when nothing had happened by 4 I called again. The customer service rep REFUSED to send a message. Sure enough the barrel is still out there half full. Rather than deal with customer service again, I tried twice to send a email on their site. I wish we had a choice in the matter regarding who did our trash pick up. Athens just sucks. Their customer service folks are always nice and promise to resolve the issues and the issues are never resolved right away. It usually takes a minimum of three calls, sometimes five, to get them to come back and pick up the bins that they didn't bother to empty, or drop off new bins, etc. They are a truly terrible company, despite very nice people answering the phone. Maybe if the people answering the phone had any actual power/influence over the jerks picking up the trash, and communicated honestly with customers, they could do a better job. Although I have Athens for my regular trash/recycling/compost company and am satisfied with their service and efficiency, this review is regarding their bulk pick-up services. I had a refrigerator break down and went on the Athens website to request a bulk item pick up and received confirmation of approval the following day. My refrigerator was picked up early the next morning and I couldn't be happier. A+++++ for easy and quick website and services. I have been a refuse customer of over 14 years. The one thing you can be sure with this company is that they will collect their payment. The rest we'll see. I am living in 3 weeks worth of trash as I have moved into a new City. I paid for an extra pick-up and was provided now 5 different reference numbers for that single extra pick-up. Their dispatch team seems worthless. No follow up or accountability on their end. Their customer reps are great, their dispatch and Refuse Pick-up team is less than mediocre at best. I have been disrespected in the past by one of their drivers on two occasions. Although I filed complaints I am not sure anything was enforced. I needed to get rid of a window shutter that was left behind after a replacement. I called Athens on a weekend, and a lovely real human picked up the phone. They asked what I had, what my address was, and they said to leave it on the curb and it would be picked up. Today is trash day and magic! It's gone. I wish everything in life was that simple. How long can you go without a trashcan? They took our trash cans and never gave us one. I've called seven times and still no trashcan. Every time I called they told me they'll have it delivered to us by 6 PM and then another day goes by and then another call and then another day goes by and another call. Pomona city let Athens take care of trash service this summer. I requested trash can replacement and received poor condition trash can with trash inside. I believe replaced trash can should be brand new trash can and I called Athens customer service for good condition trash can (my replaced trash can lid clapped on top). Nobody has reached out to me or my insurance company about this they're actually making it hard to get in contact with them. Worst trash company. Living in Palos Verdes, they pick up trash in individual pickup trucks. There limit is 60lbs. My trash cans weigh anywhere from 30 to 45 pounds in the continuously decide not to pick them up leaving a note on that they are too heavy. I have to call every week to get somebody back here to pick up my trash very lazy trash workers. read more

As I'm writing this review, I've been on hold for over 30 minutes... I've been trying to reach Athens Customer Service line since Friday 12/31... Driver failed to empty our green waste bin on Friday (12/31) regular pickup day. All 3 of our bins were placed subside along with a scheduled bulky item pickup (2 rugs). Bins were not placed directly on the street because of heavy rains. NOTHING PREVENTING BINS FROM BEING GRABBED BY THE TRASH TRUCK ARM. Black bin Trash was emptied and placed on the street. Blue bin Recycling was emptied and placed on the street. Bulky item was collected. Green bin has not been touched; and remains in the same spot. FYI: Last weeks torrential rains, makes our street a mini river, often forcing neighbors trash cans to flow down stream. That's why we place bins curbside. UPDATE: UPON BEING FORCED NO OTHER OPTION BUT TO CONTACT ATHENS CORPORATE OFFICES TO HELP RESOLVE MY ISSUE. Today, Thursday, just a few minutes ago, our green bin was emptied by a FULL truck. Huh? I watched from the window, as this driver opened the bin to take a look inside. Seeing the bin was FULL and knowing it was compacted & heavy because he repositioned it. He still decided to load it into his full truck. A medium size pile of leave fell out. Of course I could no longer just watch from a distance... I told him to look at the mess he's causing. He pointed at a broom and dust pan. Telling me he was going to pick it up.... The service is great most times, but it seems they get a little rushed and miss closing the container bins. Not a big thing if it is not raining. I have had to ask that the bins be closed a couple of times. Not to give then an out, but if there is not enough people with the collection truck and the process is all from inside the truck, the lid being closed is a 50/50 proposition. So logistically speaking, there needs to be some one on the ground to insure the bins are closed. Even if it is not raining when the is collected, there no grantee mother nature change things up and turn on her water works later in the day. read more
