I've tried, and continue to try many sports/yoga clothing brands. I get a nice discount at a few places, too, but not at Athleta. I don't care about that-my point is that I have no affiliation with them, so I can honestly say I'm writing an unbiased review. The store is really well put together. It has a great selection, awesome mannequins (yep, you heard me right-mannequins have somewhat of a life of their own), which are actually molded/built/sculpted based on fitness model that's training for the 2012 Olympics. I digress. Apart from the fact that the clothing feels very well-made, the stuff I bought has a flattering fit (kickbooty pant, seamless workout bra, running hat, performance underwear-very comfy). I put these items to a grueling workout test performed exceptionally well-stayed put, was comfortable, wicked well, and never chafed. It washed well, too. The most important though, for me in even getting to the point where I will buy something to try is the customer service. I really appreciated their friendliness, but not pushiness. If I had a question, they were helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. If I asked to try something on, they never pushed anything else on me, and best of all, their attitude was completely nonjudgmental. I will be back. P.S. I have adored Athleta's catalog for a while now, so imagine my pleasant surprise when my sis told me that an actual STORE was open in San Francisco! On my recent visit, we trekked there, and for serious, the place is HUGE. I loved actually touching the clothing and feeling the various materials - not to mention, duh, it's nice to be able to try stuff on before buying. I love Athleta's reflective running gear (specifically tights and jackets), though I was sad that their tops didn't fit me quite right (they were a lot tighter and longer than I was hoping for). I thought it was cute that they were offering doggie treats to all of the four-legged customers. :-) I will definitely visit each time I come to SF! read more

I never really shopped their online stuff but needed some clothes so I thought I check it out. Cons 1. Prices seem pretty ridiculous to me. 2. Did not find employees to be especially helpful. 3. It's lame you can't return online orders to the store, especially since the store does not carry everything. 4. I don't really like most of their surface design and they plop it on everything. Most of their stuff would be better if it was plain colors. Pros 1. Store is nicely designed 2. There is lots of colors and good variety of styles. read more

The quality of Athleta's product was already deteriorating before the Gap acquisition but now you can consider their garments virtually disposable. Knits will pill after one washing, stitching is puckered and/or loose and the athletic gear is not technical. It will not breathe when you sweat, isn't durable and doesn't come even close in functionality or fit to other brands. The reviews on their site can't be trusted either because they won't post negative feedback. I went to the store today to return a Christmas gift. The gift was bought online but the tags, and original packaging with bar card was intact. I also had the online order number. I was told they couldn't track the order number and needed the bar code. ( wasn't that the bar code on the plastic packaging?) i was told I could do an exchange but honestly i only wanted a credit ( to use online) or a refund to my friend's card. I always find the staff to be rather condescending at this place hence my reluctance to shop in store. read more

This is not about the store but rather the online return process. Terrible terrible service. I called to return some online and store bought merchandise with tags on them. I was told to send them in and I would be credited for the merchandise. Well - they credited me for the item that I bought online but not for the other items. I was offered less than 50% of the money owed and that was all that could be done. Written back and forth with customer support. Lost my business and last night when I told the story at a business dinner they lost two others just on policy. Why not try to fix the issue? They just keep stating I can get 15% off my next order. They do not understand that that is not the issue. Terrible customer service and they need to update their website and their staff on giving better instructions about this. I hope people read to either learn about the return policy but I will never buy from them again if they do not fix this issue. Sad as I have never experienced any issues with the Gap. read more

I look at the collection on line and then go into the store to try on the things I really like. If I didn't use this approach, I'd be in the store for hours looking at stuff!! So I've been shopping Athleta for a while and it's only recently that I really realized what a fantastic shopping experience it is in their retail store. I don't want this to be another one of those reviews that compares Athleta's clothing to Lululemon's, the clothing and style is different! So this review is not about the clothing (although I will say I think Athleta's gotten much better over the past couple of years) but it's about the store ambiance and customer service. So 2 weeks ago I went to the Lululemon downtown and had a horrible experience. The music was loud, the store was jam packed, the clothing was difficult to find, the store felt cramped, the staff was rude and not helpful (especially in the fitting room). They had no sizes and after I bought stuff I found out they only have a 2 week return policy. TWO WEEKS, really?? I recently read in Real Simple magazine that Athleta has a open return policy, wear it return it no problem (as long as you have a receipt). I was blown away! What a contrast to Lululemon! I had bought a hoodie a couple of months ago that I second guessed and it was just sitting in my closet, so back it went today. Of course while I was there I shopped around and picked out 2 new items. The first thing I noticed (especially after my horrible Lululemon experience) was how pleasant the store feels. The ambiance is great, the store is nice and roomy and open and it's easy to shop in. The staff is SO friendly and helpful (not pushy at all!). It's like they're there when you need them and not when you don't want them in your face or being pushy for a sale. When I went to check out I explained I changed my mind about the hoody, I had worn it but still had a receipt. No problem! The sales girl just took it back, no questions for exactly the price I paid. It was the easiest thing ever. I was so thankful that they have great customer service! Thanks Athleta for making my shopping easy! Also, if you didn't have such a great return policy I wouldn't have come in to return one item and left with two new ones, so it was a win for you. read more

I'm so excited this store is finally in SF. I've been ordering from the catalogue for years but it is great to finally be able to try stuff on in the store and not deal with returns by mail etc. The store is beautiful, gorgeous floors and the displays are done well. The fitting rooms are not too cramped and the sitting area in the back is great for husbands and kids alike. The sales lady was so helpful with my 3y.o. son, giving him coloring books and crayons and keeping an eye on him so I could quickly try on a few things. I've recently purchased casual pants as well as a lot more reflective running gear for my early morning runs. I will definitely be back! read more

I just LOVE Athleta!!! They are the Nordstrom of women's activewear! I have been wearing their stuff for years now...their clothing is always so cute and durable. It makes me want to get out there--to exercise or hang out at the pool--AND feel great about how I look and with confidence knowing there won't be wardrobe malfunctions! Just recently I went in to buy the dreaded swimsuit (ladies, you know what that means), and I tried on many. Some I liked but could not find in my size (or a smaller/larger size for comparison). They told me to go ahead and order online (free shipping if ordered in the store BTW), and order whatever sizes in whatever style or color that I wanted to try and then BRING BACK EVERYTHING that doesn't fit or that I don't want. Wow. I loved their styles but knew that I was going to need to do some size comparison. I told them that I felt terribly guilty about having to return at least half of my purchase if I ordered a couple of sizes for each style/color. They said "no problem...it is totally fine and we encourage women to find what fits...we want you to be perfectly happy!" So, I ordered over $1K in items, found my perfect size and kept half the order. My 4th of July weekend vacay in the Napa Valley was excellent...and my amazing Athleta attire made it even more special. THANKS again, all of you at Athleta -- you made my weekend! Now you're going to make my upcoming trip to Kauai is a fabulous one as well! I am your customer forever!!! P.S. I have been a lover of their "skorts" for years and I probably have at least 10 of them in different styles and colors. I like that I can be feminine with a "skirt" but then have the added comfort and insurance of the little "short" beneath. They're fabulous for hiking or walking on the beach on a windy day (hey, Crissy Field and Ocean Beach!). Being short waisted with long legs, I highly prefer the "tall" sizes which are available online only. I am always looking forward to see their latest colors and styles. No more plain, boring, masculine shorts for me and no more skirts that "fly up" and reveal all like we had back in Catholic School! read more

Very pleased that Athleta has come to our town! After years of browsing their catalog (always wondering if the quality was decent and whether the clothing looked half as nice without the bronzed, toned models) I finally paid a visit to the new store last week. I was impressed by the clothing (finally black exercise pants that are comfy and fit well!) and the attentive customer service. I was also happy to see that they offer complimentary hemming, which I didn't need for once because their sizing was just right! My fingers are crossed that the word will get out and that Athleta is here to stay! read more

Came to pick up some clothes for an upcoming trip. First of all I had read that customer service here wasn't very good but after my experience I had to write one. This was my second time here as soon as I entered the store I was greeted immediately by Dani. I told her what I was looking for and she went above and beyond to help me all the time with a smile on her face and not once did I feel rushed she pulled lots of styles and sizes for me and helped me tremendously ! She even helped me buy online what the store didn't have. I love the quality of the clothes and I'm thrilled with the clothes I got. I am not someone who can afford to shop at such an expensive store, even when I find that item that is super cute. So how can I give a high rating to this venue? I came in for a FREE yoga class by a well-known instructor (again, who's classes I can't usually afford). I was greeted professionally and informed that the class was delayed. I was offered to hang out in the store and provided with some freebies that helped make the time fly. When the class did start, I was welcomed to sit in front with other gals who had arrived early. This is how I would want to be treated if I was a regular, loyal customer and I found that treatment even without being such...in fact, I rolled in with a $3 Target tank on and didn't feel judged for it. I love the fabric and design of the athletic wear. Great feature are the gripper dots along the hem of some of the tops (my favorite is the Fastest Track Top) that stops it from riding up. The Athleta store on Fillmore has excelled customer service. read more

I have visited this store in the past and was unable to find anything that fit or looked good with my body type. This time was SO different. We had a sales associate that continued to bring us different item to try on. She gave great suggestions as far as style and color. While my sister was trying on some additional item, I enjoyed a cold bottled water and a sample Luna Bar. Nice touch. Everybody in the store was friendly and helpful. Even got a great recommendation for lunch. Next time I'm in the city I will definitely return. read more

This is one of the larger athlete stores I've visited; I like the selections and sizes on site (ordering online is easy if you're looking for a size or color they don't carry in store). Good customer service (helicopter customer servicing lol) and they're available to give useful tips. read more

Usually I bought their clothes online. But yesterday I was in the neighborhood, so I went there and bought some spring pieces for myself. A woman who worked in the fitting room was not helpful and gave me wrong sizes twice that I asked for trying on and took away the sweater that I was going to buy. Don't like the customer service at all, I was surprised about the staff was not well trained and maybe she had something else in her mind. I been there couple of times, every single time I didn't feel happy there, they've lost my business already! I would recommend people to buy online and obtain good return policies and discount. read more

When I asked to speak to a manger her response was in a very condescending manner " I am the manager" . If this is the caliber of people they hire ifor management positions I suggest if you want to be treated with respect shop somewhere else. Wow, I just love this place! Been in the neighborhood for quite a while, but never went in ntil today. I loved their customer service. As someone mentioned, they're not pushy ... Very friendly staff. If you want something in a different color, ask them, because I found out they might have more colors in the back than they do have in the store. They also offer sizes "petite" and "tall", and still the tall pants were about 1 inch too short. Bummer. The prices are quite steep, so I only get something I can't find elsewhere. I bought a sports bra six months ago and wore it once, didn't like it and it sat in my drawer until yesterday when I decided to try to return it. I have been a true Athleta customer for over 3 years. I have always had great online service until yesterday. I emailed them telling them that a shirt was not delivered in the package that I received. The package consisted of items from Old Navy and 1 item from Athleta. My email asked if it was shipped separately. The next thing I know I am getting 2 emails. One from Athleta and one from Old Navy. Old Navy credited me for a shirt that I didn't return or report missing. Athleta credited me for the shirt, but said since I had so many items missing from returns/orders that from now on I would need to take any concerns up with my bank card. I took this as rude since this was the 1st item I had reported as not being shipped. I emailed back stating that I didn't like them implying that I was not telling the truth or trying to cheat/steal from them. I immediately got a phone call from a rep. She was rude when I told her that I didn't appreciate Athleta's email. She then told me to get a pen to right down all the things that I have reported missing. She acted like it was going to be a novel. It turned out that back in 2015 I did report that 2 shirts totaling $35 was missing from one of my returns. I honestly had forgotten about it. However, the point is they think they are infallible and unable to make mistakes when receiving returns or sending shipments. The shirt I reported not receiving was $39.99. I have spent literally thousands of dollars with this company and have raved on the quality of the clothes and have been an extremely loyal customer. They chose to treat me as a thief for $75 dollars. I was shocked. I love this store and now I cannot trust to buy anything online in fear that I won't receive it or return anything in fear that I will not be credited. read more
