The one on one customer service is fantastic. They really take the time to help you figure out what you're looking for and find the shoe that will be the best fit. They don't rush you at all, and don't try to upsell you on the more expensive shoe, it's really all about what works for your feet and your needs. They always even encourage you to take them outside to see how they feel on the pavement! They have a huge variety of brands, styles, and colors, so you're almost guaranteed to find the shoes that you want. And if they don't have it, they'll order it for you. Hands down the best experience I've had buying running shoes. As a walker, I'm accustomed to staff at other stores maybe being a little judgy. Zero superior attitude here. Willie was helping another customer but asked if I needed help and used the time while the customer left the store to try out the shoes (!) to pull a couple of styles for me. He gave me real answers to questions about fit that helped me decide. I'm used to walking into a store and having one or two size 11 women's shoes to choose from. Athletic Performance had 4-5 in multiple colors. I rarely get to choose a color - I have to buy whatever fits. They even have size 11.5. I ended up buying two pairs and Willie gave me a discount. Their prices are already lower than I'm used to so that was an extra sweet finish to a great experience. read more

Nice experience turned sour. Bought some running shoes for my daughter and was happy with the service and advice. Left the store thinking I would recommend to everyone else on the team. Problem is when we got home there was a spike missing. Called and they were apologetic and suggested I come in and get a replacement. But when I did that, they were not helpful. Wanted to charge for a new set of spikes that were completely different to the ones that came with the Nike shoe. Eventually they gave them for free but not the outcome I was expecting. read more

It seems that every time I get a gait analysis at Sports Basement the result is different so I stopped by this little store while walking my dog one day. They welcomed him in with open arms and gave me knowledgeable, helpful, no-pressure assistance. I'll definitely be coming back here next time I need shoes. I walk anywhere from 5-10 miles every single day so good shoes are very important and this little store delivers! The man working there would rather chitchat than selling products. We asked to try a smaller size for my son. He told us he'd get it for us. So We were patiently waiting for him to finish chitchatting "forever" with another man. Finally he's done talking and told us he didn't have the small sizes under size 2. My son is 5. It's pretty clear he's nowhere near a size 2. He could have told us in 2 seconds. Extremely inconsiderate of others' time and patience. I've come in pretty often to browse their selection whenever I hung out around downtown LG and bought shoes a couple of times. These shoes can be pretty expensive, but it is definitely worth the extra money and this store gives out discounts for the pricier ones pretty often. I dragged my boyfriend over for some trail runners and they ordered the pair that he wanted since they didn't have it in stock at the time. I dropped in here hoping they'd have my socks... but sadly apparently their Ballega socks are so popular they can't keep up with ordering them because they didn't have a single size small in the house. I'm a bit doubtful on that and would hazard a guess someone forgot or there was a delay in shipping, but I'm so used to an entire wall of selection (Athletic Outpost in WC) and being greeted upon entry that walking in and not getting either really ruined my visit. The sales person analyzed my husbands' feet, and in less than one minute diagnosed that he was wearing the wrong size/width shoe. He brought out something that my husband absolutely loved- so we bought it at full price based on the service. The man who rang us up, (the owner,) offered my husband a free pair of socks since we bought something not on clearance. Exceptional service. Incredible! Completely solved my joint pain! 5/5 would recommend 100% I have bad knees and ankles due to different surgeries so when I ran anything over half a mile my knee and ankle would be in siring pain, needing to be rested for days after before they would function correctly again. I went to Athletic Performance and the owner helped me understand the different strengths of different shoes and helped me pick the right style to help my issues. I tried a few on and ran around in them to see which feel I liked best and I got a pair he helped me decide on. He even gave me an incredible price for the shoes too! One of my New Years Resolutions is to continue to keep off the 30 lbs I lost in 2006 due to regular exercise and better eating habits. Thought it would be cool to kick off 2009 with a new pair of gym shoes to dance in, Zumba in and also wear at the gym. I was kindly greeted by the staff today and was directed to the right type of shoe for my needs. Tried it on and really felt it fit well but I was not in love with any of the styles I tried on. The one I did like in darker blue was out of stock for my size (darn!) I was surprised that the prices were pretty reasonable. I was expecting to spend about $100 on these new shoes and their prices were way lower then that. I am sad that I didn't find the right shoe here but they do have great customer service. They have been in business for 19 years and are very proud of that. I definitely want to take my business to a Mom and Pop type joint and this is the perfect place for it. I'll definitely come back in the future...just wish I wasn't so darn picky about my shoes!!! *pout* read more

While we were strolling around Los Gatos for the doggie costume parade, we stopped to look at a sidewalk display here. There were several shoes on sale, and my guy and I were both in need of new gym shoes. Since nothing was priced, I stuck my head in to ask for some assistance, and a very nice and helpful guy came out, answered some questions and even allowed us to bring our dog inside the store. Both my husband and I ended up buying new shoes, (not the ones on display though.) We were given a percentage off both pairs, and left feeling we got a pretty good deal. This store was recommended by a staff at Sports Basement, when there was no spike shoes available for a track & field athlete (my kid). Sure enough the staff at here Athletic Performance was knowledgeable and spotted several suitable pairs for my kid. They had selections, too. We were glad that he (forgot his name, sorry) gave us a good tip in selecting the socks as well. That kind of info is important for the beginner athlete. We, in a few weeks, came back here because the spikes of the shoes became dull and one fell off. I knew this happened due to our poor maintenance, however, the lady (didn't ask her name, sorry) took care of this, while she was assisting other customers; multi task player! She didn't become nasty or whatever though we arrived at last minute before the store closing. And the spikes weren't charged much. : ) My kid and I are pretty happy with this store and recommend the class and club. It's super hard to find a running shoe for a 1st grader. My son has been in Run Club and runs about 6 miles a week in his shoes, and he previously had Nike Free's that wore out significantly in a very shore period of time. We tried Road Runner first, but they only had two good running shoes for kids, and one of the two didn't even have his size. Then we tried The Running Revolution (RR), but they didn't carry kid sizes at all. Next was Sports Basement, but they only had the cookie-cutter athletic shoes that were not for solid cross country/sprinting running. RR referred us to Athletic Performance, and you can't beat that they open at 8am on Saturday! We were able to wake up, pick up a great pair of shoes for my son after being given a selection of various options, and still head out to his soccer game that morning! Best part is the time they opened for early-birds like me, but the second best part is that kids receive 20% off! So we scored with some new running shoes that are HIS style, not the style the store decided, and he was off and running the same day. Thank you! We will be back in six months :) read more

Every runner, however novice, deserves to get the correct shoes fitted at a knowledgeable running store. I used to get terrible terrible blisters ( the on the soles of your feet, waking you up in the middle of the night type ) before a friend took me to this place and I found out I was an ASICs double wide fitting. read more

Every running shoe that I picked up here has been better than the last because they keep adapting their recommendations based on my changing needs. Price-wise they are competitive.
