Had a terrible experience selling here. Then they sent me a link to give them a review, but even that was broken and wouldn't let me submit what I tried to tell them anonymously and not publicly. I wasn't even planning on posting a review of this place until I got a broken "How did we do?" survey link from them. So for the sake of sharing my review with them, here are my answers to their private review link: Did an associate greet you when you entered the store? - No (neither time, and I waited over 5 minutes for an associate to exit the back room when I came back for my clothes) Did an associate explain the selling process and how we select merchandise? - No When you were presented with your offer, did the associate clearly explain why some of your items weren't taken? - Yes, but very vaguely How would you rate your selling experience today? - 1/5 How did you hear about us? - Word of Mouth Additional comments - I brought two full 13 gallon bags of clothes I spent all day assembling. I called them multiple times, where they repeatedly confirmed they were running short on and in need of denim and shoes. I've been struggling to pay rent this month, so these calls gave me a lot of hope and I spent the whole day cleaning out my closet so I could pay rent. I brought many nice brands and like-new items. They only took 5 items, which included a pair of Doc Martens in very good condition. I came here to sell clothes I didn't need so I could pay my rent, so I was devastated to only receive a $30 payout, and further devastated to hear that my payout could only purchase my DM shoes back at the store's retail price for them. This was a huge waste of my time and gas money, I wish I never came and I will never be back. If they had told me on the phone either time I called that they were overstocked and being picky, I wouldn't have come, but they gave me the opposite impression. I felt lied to and cheated. When I came in to pick up my rejected clothes and money, I waited at the register for 5 minutes, then stood by the clothing turn in area. A lady came out and dismissively told me to get in the line that began to form at the register, despite me being there well before anyone in the line was. I could barely haul my clothes out the door because they cut open the bags without replacing them, so my items were spilling out. No one helped me with them or the door. Absolutely humiliating and horrible experience, I will not be recommending this store to anyone. read more

I brought in a couple bags of clothes and it was a busy Sunday. They didn't take anything, but I fold my clothes in a certain way so I could see they didn't look through most of them, and just shoved them back into a bag. read more

Went today to sell for the first time. The store was very busy and I didn't know exactly how things worked to sell. Once available the girl behind the register came to help me. Signed up on the tablet to sell and it stated it would take 2 1/2 hours until my clothes were viewed. I walked around the store then left and returned once I got a text that my clothes were viewed. The store was still very busy and I waited in line. I gave the cashier my receipt ticket and she was very nice and started off by saying thank you for selling with us but only one item they were interested in purchasing was a brand new pair of Levi's jeans for $6.00! I kindly told her that I'll pass. She seemed shocked but that was a very lowball price. I was very disappointed that my two MK crossbody purses that are in excellent condition were not considered nor the new with tags Hollister brand top or my pair of Charles David new nude wedges. Plus lots of other garments that are trendy and great condition. Earlier when I walked around the store I noticed they had MK purses in very used conditions and thought for sure they would take mine but I guess they like them really used. I will not be back here again and just sell on Poshmark. read more

I've been to Plato's Closet San Jose multiple times now, and unfortunately this was my final straw. This was my fourth time coming to this location. I brought two full trash-bag-sized bags of clothing to sell, including brands like Juicy Couture, Baby Phat, Fashion Nova, Ralph Lauren, and similar well-known resale brands. I was asked to wait over an hour, only to be told that every single item was a pass -- not one thing was taken. This has now happened repeatedly at this location. I don't know if it's the way this specific store operates or how they evaluate items, but this isn't my first experience selling clothes in general. Other resale stores are at least upfront or take some items. Here, you're made to wait a significant amount of time just to be told everything is rejected. What makes this especially frustrating is that I drove almost an hour each way for this visit. Spending that much time and gas just to wait over an hour and walk out with nothing is extremely disappointing. If you're planning to sell here, I honestly recommend saving your time and going elsewhere. This location will have you wait a long time only to pass on everything. Not worth it. read more

I'm giving this a one star for the selling function of the store. I brought it some nice brands like Anthropologie, Madewell denim vest with a tag, 2 Nike Airmax 97, Aqua Bloomingdales dress with a tag, along with the a Liberty X Puma jacket. The lady doing the buying told me I had a week to pick up my clothes if the decision was not to buy any of the items. I came in before the week ended but they had already donated the items. Another lady from the main office was being super nice and accommodating but I felt I was looked over. Since I communicated that I was going on vacation they said I could come back before my week ended. Oh well.. shouldn't be attached to items anyway and hopefully someone got some free expensive clothes and shoes. read more

I came here on a weekend and dropped off one bag of clothes to sell and put my name on the waitlist. It took about 2.5 hours for them to get to my bag so I took off and came back. I brought jewelry, shoes and clothing. Received 26 dollars for 4 items that were in very good condition. I would say that you really do not get a lot of money for your items at all but for me it was either sell or donate. Try coming in when it's not busy or it will take a very long time and don't come expecting a lot of money in return. (I did receive a necklace back that was broken so make sure to check on the quality of your things when you give them and receive them back!) They offer money or store credit :) read more

I always had a good/fair experience here. Today was the first time there was ladies I've never seen. The wait was 2+ hours (fine) I live an hour away but it usually is worth it. This time I forsure feel like they didn't know what they were doing. I brought two big bags of majority brand new things and some random things I just wanted to shoot my shot at getting rid of. The old lady told me "we passed on a lot because of quality" but didn't take any good pieces and took old worn out tees instead? Also maybe 3 good pieces. All together 10 pieces for $20... that's crazy to me. I decided to just leave and take everything and try again later. Idk how they were operating today but forsure not efficiently. Super unfortunate experience at Plato's Closet in San Jose. I walked in nobody greeted me. I had to ask the questions. I had brought in a trash bag full of clothes only for $40??? What a scam especially in this economy when a single piece of clothing is like $20 now. I know my trash bag was worth at least $100 if not more. So will not be donating here again unfortunately :( love shopping here but maybe donate somewhere else read more

This was one of the most degrading and infuriating experiences I have ever had at a store. I brought in five full bags of name brand clothes. Lululemon, J Crew, Judy Blue, Max Studio, and a pair of brand new white Sperry shoes. All clean, stylish, and in excellent condition. After making me wait for hours, they picked seven items and offered me a pathetic 29 dollars total. Just over four dollars an item. A complete insult. I asked a simple question about store credit and one of the employees called me a cheap bitch to her coworker. Loud enough for me to hear. Absolutely disgusting behavior. Their L and XL section had maybe five sad items total. You clearly need inventory in those sizes yet somehow passed on five bags of quality clothes. It felt personal. If you are not white and not a size two, it is obvious you are not who they want to serve. The judgment was immediate. The staff looked at me like I did not belong. I will never spend a single dollar in that store again. Shame on you. read more

Arrived here on a Wednesday afternoon around 4:15 pm in hopes of trying to sell some Alfani dress shirts, a pair of Stacey Adams Black shoes, and some chino pants from Tommy Hilfiger... Parking is super chill since there's lots of spaces in front, so it's convenient if you're bringing a high volume of items. I was greeted by the store associates when I walked in and immediately helped with my request. Dropped off my clothes with them. For the selling process, you fill out your contact information into their self serve kiosk. They ask for standard information like phone number, email and home address, but I didn't understand why the kiosk asked for my driver's license number... it's convenient that they have a live queue of who else came before to sell clothes. It was an estimated 1.5 - 2 hours wait, which I can understand. I went off to do errands to fill in the time, but I was concerned that they finished within 45 minutes. Totally inaccurate from what they told me in store and was printed on my receipt for the time of completion. I picked up my clothes and they weren't able to take any value from the clothes I brought. The only reason was that they couldn't find anything in their system. Disappointing experience that they couldn't find value in about 10-15 items of clothing. read more

Parking: located in a plaza so there's a lots of parking. Not hard to find close parking The store itself has lots of great finds from princess Polly to kith items. From shoes to bags as well, lots of great finds. The workers are also super friendly so I feel welcomed and comfortable to shop here.
