Do I hear 6 stars?! Yes…read more Dr. Skordalakis is an excellent dentist - smart! knows what he's doing! - and he is exceptionally calm and gentle with children (actually, with everyone). He will refer you to another dentist/specialist if he feels the situation may (may) be outside of his "I've got this" zone. He clearly cares a lot about consistency, because every member of his team is courteous, competent and engaging. If you are seriously considering a new dentist for your children, or your child's first dentist, then you really should try Dr. S. You will not be disappointed. He's kind of like the "dog whisperer" of pediatric dentistry.

Kids always get a coin for a job well done - even the sibling tag alongs. I usually take all kids at once and they try to make it time efficient - each kid gets their own hygienist so they get cleaned at the same time. Then dr. S will meet all 3 kids to give me a run down. Time saver! What I really love about him is that I can be honest with my "granola" ways and he's not one to roll his eyes at me. He doesn't encourage X-rays because of radiation exposure, he's ok that i choose fluoride free for the kids because he's seen flourosis and is very conservative regarding usage. I've also asked about the diy toothpastes and he said "ok, give it a try and let's see how your kids teeth look". He's willing to try new things and if he doesn't know something he'll be honest with you (I asked him about myobrace and he didn't know what it was). There aren't any holistic dentists in the area that will take insurance so we stick with regular dentists but among them I'd say dr s is the best. He lets me, as mom, make the final choice and encouraged me when he sees that I'm trying my best. (I just wish I can find myself a dentist like him!) If I had a "con" it'd be that I don't like that they diffuse essential oils in their foyer area. I'm not against it, just a very conservative user bc children with allergies could possibly react to it (nowadays you never know who's allergic to what). But thankfully none of my kids have reacted and it's less than a 5-10 minutes wait so it's not worth the fight for me.

After meeting with other professionals and learning more about pediatric airway health, I feel ready to share my experience at Lansdowne Dental Care with Dr. Tracey Nguyen. When my son was two years old, I noticed that he snored while sleeping. My instincts told me something wasn't right, so I began learning about airway and obstructive breathing issues in children. In my search for help, I found Dr. Nguyen, whose background in children's airway and sleep made me feel confident she would guide us in the right direction. My son was 3.5 when we went to see her. Before our visit, the office required a $500 nonrefundable fee, which I paid, trusting that the expertise would be worth it. We traveled from Rockville, Maryland to Leesburg with our toddler and infant for the appointment. At the visit, a technician took an intraoral scan (which my son had already completed earlier that year with his regular dentist). Dr. Nguyen came in examined my son's mouth briefly and mentioned he might have a long soft palate, then told us to come back when he was five. Panicked, I asked her different interventions I have read about. I asked about myofunctional therapy and intervention devices like the Myo Munchee or Tooth Pillow, but she said I could try them "if I wanted." The same went for a sleep study--she said I could do it "if I wanted" and could contact any facility myself. She even suggested canceling our ENT appointment the next day because she thought my son might not cooperate. Overall, I left feeling that we were given no clear direction, plan, or professional guidance. Her tone and responses gave the impression that it was up to me to experiment and figure things out. At one point, a staff member handed me an in-home sleep study device (seemingly without Dr. Nguyen's direct involvement). I took it hoping to make something of the visit, but after returning the device (shipped it through mail), we never heard back from the office. When I asked about the fee, Dr. Nguyen said it was for her "time and knowledge," but I left unsure what knowledge had been provided. Thankfully, I did not cancel the ENT appointment. X-rays showed my son had enlarged adenoids, and surgery to remove them made a noticeable improvement in his breathing and sleep. Later, I connected with other airway professionals who provided a much clearer path forward, including identifying lip and buccal ties, starting myofunctional therapy, and discussing possible expansion treatment. Interestingly, a friend whose a dentist that was interested learning about airway health attended one of Dr. Nguyen's seminars on pediatric airway, where she emphasized the importance of early intervention. That made it even more confusing that, in our case, we were told simply to wait until he was older. Dr. Nguyen may be a fine general dentist, but based on my experience, I would not recommend her for pediatric airway or sleep concerns. Parents seeking help in this specialized area deserve clear direction, thorough evaluation, and actionable next steps--none of which we received. If you are a parent or someone in need of help and guidance in airway, I HIGHLY recommend TMJ Sleep and Breathe Center in Vienna VA.

This is an ok place to take your kids for checkups or cleaning. This is the last place you should…read moretake your children if they are nervous or scared. The dentist has zero patience for an upset child and no bedside manner. She is impatient and will simply disengage and write a referral if your child is having difficulty calming down. My son needed to be calmed down and she threatened to end the treatment for his extraction. I asked for a moment with him and she walked out in a huff but we were able to get that treatment done. He's 12. Once he let me put the mask on his forehead he calmed down and I was able to ask Dr. De La Cruz to continue. With my 6 year old daughter she took a look at an abscess and said she couldn't perform the extraction until a regiment of antibiotics. Ok. So my daughter disliked the antibiotics and I called the office to ask if they could prescribe something that wasn't so bitter. I was told to ask the pharmacy to add flavor. The pharmacists said that wasn't possible with the penicillin. Ok so we just grunted through a couple of weeks and returned. 5 minutes into the treatment I'm called in and my daughter is wearing the nasal mask but softly crying. The dentist is clearly put out by the inconvenience of an upset child and won't give me 5 minutes to calm her down. She just tosses down her swab and says I'm going to refer her to a surgeon. So if it was just my son or just my daughter that I had to intervene and convince my dentist to give me a moment, I would assume the problem is us. What's the hurry? We've been in the treatment room for 5 minutes. There isn't a line in the lobby. Why am I needing to come in and calm my kid and if I need to do that, can I have an actual moment to calm them? Dr De La Cruz is impatient and disinterested in working with nervous or scared children. Being good with kids is what I look for with pediatricians. Not a great choice unless your kids are calm and need no amount of any basic bedside manner from their dentist. Get this, as a parting shot, she writes on the referral extract teeth using IV. She's referring out to a surgeon and recommending that they use a needle to deal with an anxious child.

I originally came here because…read moremy dentist wasn't comfortable dealing with such a young child who needed so much dental work including extractions. My first impression was great, the doctor was as sweet as could be, said a prayer before working on her and the office is beautiful including little televisions for the children to watch while their teeth are being worked on. The first problem I experienced was the doctor telling me that my daughter needed a spacer for a tooth that she had removed so her teeth would grow in the right way. I have been down this road before and know that they do not stay in, she could pull them out with her fingers, so I was very adamant when explaining to the dentist that I did not want it unless it was $0 out-of-pocket for me. They ordered it anyway and then tried to make me pay hundreds of dollars. Finally that got resolved and I really haven't gone there much over the years and have opted to take her for routine cleanings to my dentist. Recently I have taken her there after being hounded multiple times over and over to bring her in for a cleaning. The doctors bedside manner in explaining to my daughter why she should brush her teeth was inexcusable. She compared "going poo poo" and not wiping to what her mouth would smell like if she didn't brush her teeth. OMG! Really!?! That was the most disgusting explanation of why a child should brush her teeth that I've ever heard in my 44 years of life and by far totally inappropriate. This office rarely has an appointment available outside of school hours and the doctor prefers you to come multiple visits unless you opt for nitrous oxide which is $100 charge out of your pocket. The last time I was there my daughter had three cavities filled. Shortly after she complained of pain while eating. I took her back in to have them adjusted and the doctor acted as if my daughter was lying. She made a few adjustments we came home and my daughter is still complaining of pain. Unable to get an appointment for over 3 weeks outside of school time, I am going to take her to my dentist and will never return to this office in the future. I think if you have a child with major dental issues who requires laughing gas this place might be good for you, but if it's just routine cleanings and x-rays, any regular dentist would do.

They gave me a treatment plan for one. We filled about 4 cavities while we were there and the treatment plan showed 2 more and another 4 on the "watch" list. I decided to get a second opinion. By the time I saw a new dentist (about 6-8 months after) almost all my children's sealants had fallen out; a cavity filling had fallen out and a repair had fallen off (part of what triggered the new dentist was the filling and the repair falling off, didn't know about sealants on both kids falling off until they were checked) Long story short; everything is repaired and redone. But the interesting part: NO CAVITIES!!!!! Yep. They are diagnosing and filling cavities that aren't there. I have confirmed this with TWO dentists in this area since we left. TWO DENTISTS confirmed he had NONE. I don't know if he ever had ANY. This place is TERRIBLE and anyone going who has a extensive treatment plan and you think maybe just a "bad brusher", get a second opinion! This is WRONG! BEWARE!
