We loved this place so much we came back twice! We picked up sandwiches for lunch to take on a picnic, and they were unique and delicious. We went back the next morning for coffee, and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of gluten free baked goods. I only wish they had gluten free sandwich options since they bake gluten free bread and treats. The flourless brownie was delicious, and all the other gf baked items looked amazing as well but I could only eat one! This was a cute, unique place with great attention to detail. What a great bakery! Good coffee, nice friendly service and FABULOUS raised, glazed donuts! Donuts so good that we went back the next morning (Sunday) for more only to find out to our extreme disappointment that they are only offered on Saturday mornings! I want to hug the staff at Atlantic Baking Company for offering pre-made sandwiches WITHOUT mayonnaise! The world generally assumes that everyone likes their sandwiches slathered in the stuff, but ABC respects that this might not always be the case. The pre-made sandwiches in the refrigerated case are fresh and delicious without a hint of soggy bread or wilted toppings. Condiments (like mustard and mayo, if you must) are in packets to go. If sweets are also on your docket, the muffins are all equally delicious. A high-quality carb fest is hard to resist here. Thanks, ABC! read more

I stopped here for a quick snack, what a lovely shop! I grabbed an oatmeal raisin cookie to take with me, I got almost all the way back to my hotel and just HAD to have another one! So walked all the way back! It was delicious! read more

The baked goods were great. I especially liked how in there refrigerated section, you could buy small servings of fancy meats (prosciutto, etc) and cheese, so that you could buy a loaf of bread and essentially have a picnic, either at the restaurant or wherever else. read more

And here, I thought a pre made sandwich was going to suck. I fully expected to pull a couple of slices of turkey out of stale bread as I ran to catch the Vinalhaven ferry. I took one bite of the turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato on a freshly baked roll just to try the "likely stale" bread, and I was hooked. What a delicious sammie. I also bought a loaf of sourdough (sliced in house gratis) and some white bean feta dip. I can't wait to try it. I always like to try to support local businesses, and this one is 110% worthy. The bakery did a fabulous job of making whoopie pies, blueberry pies, and a lemon buttercream frosting wedding cake for our wedding. They event did a gluten free pie for some of our guests. Our guests raved about the desserts for days afterwards and the wedding cake was THE most amazing thing all of us have tasted. The bakery manager was also amazing to work with as we coordinated details for the wedding - really prompt in responding to our questions. We will use them again if we plan an event in Maine. read more

I wish there were a bakery this good where I live. We were here twice during a stay in the Rockland area. There is a large variety of artisan breads baked fresh daily. Some kinds are available every day. Others are specialty breads made only once or twice a week. We took a pumpernickel loaf back to our cottage. It had the slight sweetness and depth of flavor that good dark bread should have. The bakery also has large selection of sweet and savory pastries, foccaccia, muffins, pizza, etc. I enjoyed a scrumptious cheese scone with a cup of freshly brewed coffee on our first visit and a well-made breakfast sandwich the second time. Customer service depends on the staff person. On our first visit, we were served by a friendly woman who told us all about the individual breads and how we could call ahead to have the bakery save a particular kind for us, if we needed another bread later in the week. On our second visit, we got quite the opposite--a man who was cold, said nary a word to us and seemed impatient when we couldn't immediately make up our minds about what to order. A previous reviewer remarked about the difficulty of finding on-street parking. There is a large public lot accessible from the street that runs along the side of the bakery. read more

We stopped here based on the great reviews and the food and coffee did not disappoint. The blueberry muffins and the toffee chocolate chip cookie were delicious. We bought $40 worth of granola and snacks and the staff at the counter were all lovely. However, we made the egregious mistake of forgetting our stroller in an inconvenient place inside the bakery and were rudely treated by what I assume to be the owner or manager who made it clear she was not happy with us, despite our apologies. Two stars off of what would have been a 5-star review for the somewhat inhospitable treatment we received. Maybe she was having a bad day or was fed up with annoying tourists, who knows! Stopped in to grab food after a visit to the Farnsworth Museum. The staff member manning the register was very friendly and helpful in making suggestions. We grabbed a banh mi sandwich and a salad, along with a loaf of ciabatta bread and some homemade granola to take to friends we were staying with. All were delicious! read more

I ordered a large latte just before closing. The cup was 1/2 full and when I asked if he had given me a large the server said yes. I frequent Rockland as result of work. Every morning I go for a bit of a walk and head into Atlantic Baking Co. Ordering a chai latte and a danish or such. Everything I've gotten so far has been downright amazing. Truly an amazing morning routine. I'd recommend that anyone that needs a cup of joe or something sweet stops in. read more

The food and service was excellent! Scrumptious treats & the pizza I had was heavenly. I signed up specifically to comment on the reviewer "J.D" and that situation. I was there that day with my mother and step father. We saw and heard most of that situation and I felt like the manager/owner and the girl working there were very professional in how they handled the situation. The stroller in question was left, "inconveniently", right in front of the register (not a very large space to begin with) for 20-25 minutes during lunch time (which evidently is a high traffic time for them). I saw an elderly couple struggle to move around it and another gentleman almost trip over it. Once the line thinned out, one of the girls working and the manager came out to find out to whom the stroller belonged. The girl even returned the stroller to you with a smile. Given I didn't see the full reaction of the manager/owner, it was a very brief and seemingly polite interaction. Even if the manager/owner was less than ecstatic, I don't know how you can fault anyone for getting a little irritated that you "forgot" your baby stroller right in the middle of a very busy business and didn't retrieve it for close to a half an hour. Get a grip. 5/5 stars for great customer service and yummy, beautiful pastries and breads! I'll be sure to frequent this bakery again on my next visit to Maine! read more

When in town (Rockland), this is a must visit. every food item is great and quick. The baked goods are to die for.

My recent visit left much to be desired. When I walked into the bakery, it was empty except for two people who were seated. No one was in line. And there was no one working the counter. I spent a couple minutes looking at the menu, and still no one came to take my order. Finally I went to the clear window that has a view back into the kitchen. There were two people there having a conversation. I gestured toward them. They looked my direction, saw me, and continued their casual conversation. Neither made any effort to move. I went back to the counter and even more minutes passed before one of them came out. The excuse was she thought someone was working the counter. Despite this poor customer service. I decided to get a loaf of bread and a brownie. The brownie was good. However, the bread got moldy a couple days later. I had to throw over half the loaf in the trash. I will not spend my money in this establishment again. I could forgive the loaf of bread, but there is no excuse for poor customer service. read more

Wow, what a find in this little town! Had a chai tea latte, a mocha, a bacon cheddar scallion scone and a raspberry crisp bar, plus we bought a loaf of sourdough bread. Everything was freshly made, excellent, and the inside was a very inviting place to hang for awhile. Love this bakery! When in Rockland this weekend, we wanted a quick lunch and we were pleasantly surprised with the sandwich offerings. We ordered pizza by the slice (feta, spinach, and tomato on homemade crust) and also grabbed a sandwich from the premade sandwich area that was delicious (mediterranean tuna with kalamata olives on rosemary focaccia bread). We also had potato and cheese soup. Before we left, we ordered a loaf of French country bread and got some treats for our kids. The staff was pleasant and patient and offered to slice the bread for us, and also gave us a to-go wrap for our leftovers. The bakery items on display were works of art. Will definitely go back to Atlantic Baking Co. on my next visit to Rockland. read more
