She made a lunch reservation for five in the Bistro. We walked through the stately lobby and bar area to get to the Bistro. We we seated at a round window table with a great view of the private beach for hotel guests. Of course, there was a pristine white tablecloth and napkins plus fresh Calla Lillies on the table. Flatware was top notch. Glasses were thin walled French. Condiments including tiny bottle of hot sauce were in sealed containers on each table. Salt was in a porcelain bowl. Service was impeccable from start to finish. (Pics of menu included.) Orders: Warm Lobster Roll with Truffle Frites. ($48.) for me. It was very good with chunks of sweet lobster, and the fries were outstanding. I also enjoyed the Carrot Ginger Soup. It was amazing with a pleasing sweet flavor from the carrots and a tangy note from the freshly grated ginger. Texture was perfect. My daughter and I seriously want the RECIPE. Two Burgers ($34. each) very good One steak -- tender ($48.) One half Turkey Club and cup of soup (very good) Side added of Mashed Potatoes -- unusual flavor of mustard and vinegar in a hot mashed? Not eaten. Desserts were creative and presented artistically. ($14.) See photos. *Crème Brûlée *Two Chocolate Coconut Mousse *Trio of Sorbets including excellent Watermelon Mint. Americano Coffee We raved about how delicious the desserts tasted. Lunch was my treat. The prices were high because of the location in a historic hotel. It was the first time we have eaten in an award winning exclusive seaside hotel such as Ocean. Guests at this hotel are notably wealthy. During summer season, room rates are about $1,500. a night. Restrooms: Classy as expected. Cloth towels spa soap and hand lotion plus fresh flowers. Photos. Description and Awards: Perched high on the bluffs of Watch Hill, Rhode Island, Ocean House is an iconic New England seaside resort, and the first and only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star hotel in the state. It is also Forbes Five-Star rated, making Ocean House one of only fourteen Five-Star resorts in the world to hold this honor.

It's never easy taking over a B&B, and the family that now runs this place seems very nice, and hospitable. That said, at $450 or more per night, execution is requisite for a high Yelp rating. We stayed here four 4-days and 3-nights in the Rosa room. Each room here is somewhat unique (I think there are only 8 rooms here), therefor experiences may be somewhat idiosyncratic to the specific room. Positives: + Hospitable welcome, alerted us by phone when the rooms was ready + Welcome gift (nice touch) + Large room + Gas fireplace which worked well + Comfortable king bed + Pleasant grounds + Separate entrance for this room + Convenient location + Excellent homemade breakfast with seating times to prevent crowding Negatives: - Road noise (on a very busy road, traffic including trucks 100 feet away) - Musty smelling, we couldn't keep windows open at night due to road noise - No sugar, etc. in room for coffee - Bathroom outlets not working - Bathroom door difficult to close - Blinds were broken on one side, and just left standing in the corner of the room, these should have been removed if they could not be repaired - Large piece of plastic left on the window sill, looked dirty there, not well cleaned - Uncomfortable sleep sofa couch for sitting and small TV - Microwave not working (actually it was after we figured out nobody plugged it in) - Outside light over door is on automatic timers, too bright for the light filtering shade, so the room is lit up at night (we prefer a dark room for sleeping) - Rosa backs up to the kitchen, and we could hear a lot of banging and noise at 10pm as they were doing prep work for the next morning The negatives balance out the positives for a 3-star stay. Bottom line, we'd be unlikely to return, especially to that room.

I was trying to book a stay for the month of May. Like many international travelers, I use a digital bank. Their payment link (Canary Software) kept failing at the OTP stage, a common technical glitch between US payment gateways and international fintech cards. The Canary Software link they use is notoriously finicky with non-US banks, which is a known issue in the travel industry that their staff should be trained to handle. After trying to resolve it in good faith via email, I received a reply stating: "We've reviewed the reservation and determined that it is not legitimate. This booking appears to be flagged as a scam and will not be honored." No offer to verify my ID, no alternative payment link, and zero professional courtesy. Just an immediate accusation of fraud because their own software couldn't process the transaction. For a Relais & Châteaux property that charges luxury prices, their customer service is shockingly bottom-tier. If you're an international traveler or use anything other than a standard US big-bank credit card, save yourself the headache and book somewhere that actually wants your business.
