Everything! Was! Perfect! Lovely room, lovely grounds, wonderful hosts!! Soooo close to the beach (short walk) and they have rolling carts, towels and chairs!! And a pass to get onto their own space on the beach! Coffee is ready when you need it! I slept like a baby on a comfortable bed, showered in a beautiful walk-in shower with great water pressure and (at least in our room) there was bottled water and a bottle of wine. C'mon... you can't get better!! Love the area, loved the recommendations for restaurants (believe the hosts, they are steering you in the right direction for food!) and wish I could stay a lot longer!! Last weekend, I traveled to Misquamicut for my niece's 15th birthday and booked a suite at the Blue Whale for $420 for the night. We had a friend who unexpectedly got work off and wanted to join us, so we simply asked management if it would be okay for him to stay in the suite we had already paid for and park at the hotel. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple question turned into a very uncomfortable and upsetting situation. Management became extremely confrontational and told us that we were "not a good fit," simply because we asked about having an additional guest and parking spot. We were even threatened with having the police called, despite the fact that we were not arguing or causing any kind of disturbance. We asked for a refund, but instead, the owner decided to "upgrade" our room. Our friend was not allowed to park at the hotel, and we were then charged an additional $40 for him to stay in the room that we had already paid $420 for. The entire situation completely ruined what was supposed to be a special night celebrating my niece's birthday. The way we were treated was extremely disappointing, especially considering we were simply trying to clarify whether an additional guest and parking spot would be allowed. Based on this experience, I would not recommend the Blue Whale to anyone, and I will not be staying here again. read more

I've never seen such service by the staff to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We needed ice and the owner herself drove to the store and picked some ice up and brought it to our room! Sooo disappointed! This place used to be a jewel. It used to be clean and quaint. They used to put out a spread at breakfast that was awesome and more in the evening. It was expensive but worth it. Not anymore. IDK what happened. Dirty moldy rooms, noisy a/c. Everything felt wet. Furniture old and sticky. Bed linen and pillows were dirty, ripped, smelly and gross. Bugs. Free coffee via K-cup and paper cup in a moldy Keurig coffee maker, 2 cheap towels and soap. ABSOLUTELY NOT LIKE PHOTOS. Not worth the price read more

What a wonderful place to stay! The gardens and grounds are meticulously kept and absolutely beautiful. The rooms are well-appointed and the beds are a dream to sleep on! We stayed in a suite, which had 3 beds and full size fridge. The bathroom is large and very nice. Everything was sparkling clean. The true gems are the ownership - so accommodating, professional, kind, and knowledgeable. They went way above and beyond for our stay and we couldn't have been more grateful. We will be regularly returning to stay at this lovely little hideaway that is right near the beach and all of the fabulous activities in Misquamicut Beach / Watch Hill RI area. read more

This place was great! It was a last minute girls weekend and we scored with The Blue Whale Inn! It didn't hurt that the weather was great too, especially in October. We rented 6 rooms on the first floor and one suite on the second. All mattresses were temperpedic and super comfortable, they were full size. The rooms were extremely clean and had everything you could need including a mini refrigerator and microwave. The rate included a complimentary bottle of wine and a $10 voucher for breakfast at the Cooked Goose. There was also complimentary bottled water. There was no coffee in the room but the owner put a Keurig out for us in the morning which was great. The owner was extremely accommodating and pleasant. She even had chocolate covered strawberries for us in the evening. Check-in was all done remotely as the office is closed during pandemic. The hotel is located two minutes walk to the beach, because it is off season a lot of stores and restaurants were closed but the beach was beautiful. This place is a hidden gem, we are already planning to go back next year. read more

Amazing pampered weekend. My friend and i decided to stay here after all the high reviews left by previous guests. The reviews were right this place was just perfect. The owner is very sweet and goes above and beyond for her guests. The rooms were really nice we had a full size fridge and microwave. Very clean rooms, beds were very comfortable, and the pillows were great. Very close to the beach you can walk right over. The included breakfast was very good! We were given bagels, Coffee, quiche, juice, fresh fruit, and danishes. Breakfast is served from 9am-11am. Everything was just wonderful and we were blown away at how nice everything was. This place is very reasonable in price and you get your money's worth while staying here. I highly recommend staying here. We will be returning. read more

To describe the Blue Whale Inn in one word... "charming". Christine was the most gracious host. She greeted us upon arrival and brought us to our room where we found our complimentary bottle of sauv blanc and a fridge stocked with cheese, crackers and 3 slices of chocolate cake. The following morning a gentleman brought to our room two trays of breakfast items; he placed the trays on the bed and we enjoyed our bagels and croissants under the covers to the pitter-patter of rain outside. I love this hotel! We had an upstairs room that was appointed with really nice amenities. The staff is friendly the room was clean and did not sport Misquamicut's trademark mildew smell. Moreover, the hospitality is so gracious. Staying at the Blue Whale Inn was such a wonderful way to experience Rhode Island for the first time. I called before I arrived as my ETA had changed Christine (owner) was very helpful and let me know to just call when I arrived. When I arrived Christine was very friendly and showed me the two different rooms I could choose from which was unlike any inn I have ever been to. The rooms are all beautiful with coastal decor and very homey. The complimentary bottle of champagne was a sweet gesture. There were several bottles of water in each of the rooms. The rooms were spacious and super clean. The outdoor shower was amazing with the hot water which was necessary to get the sand off after a day at the beach. Christine was around the inn always friendly willing to help or give recommendations on what to do or where to eat. She has several wagons, beach chairs and boogie boards for her guests to utilize. The outdoor space had plenty of seating, tables a grill and lights the flowers surrounding were beautiful! I could not have asked for a better stay at the Blue Whale Inn. I cannot wait to come back! The feeling of home is amplified by the friendly manager, who welcomed us with wine and treats - for us it was fresh-dipped chocolate covered strawberries. Just returned from a quick trip to The Blue Whale Inn. It was truly a great experience! When I called to book the room I was told that check-in was at 3PM but we were told we can show up the day of check in at any time and leave our car there so we didn't have to pay for beach parking. This was greatly appreciated because we arrived on a Sunday and parking for the beach was anywhere between $15-$30. We spent the early afternoon at the beach & walked back to check in. The Blue Whale Inn is conveniently located & a 7 minute walk to Misquamicut Beach Each room has it's own outdoor entrance and exit that faces the backyard which is full of comfortable outdoor patio furniture / adorable beach decor / lots of shade / etc. Our room was spotless, and the owner presented us with a small cake as a thank you for my boyfriend's service in the military. The Blue Whale Inn offered us $10 off/night as a military discount. We received a complimentary bottle of wine. The walls are a bit thin for we heard other guests talking/cell phones ringing but not loud enough to where it was bothersome. In the morning before we checked out we indulged in the continental breakfast which was delicious. Such a great variety of bagels, pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, & tea. Again, even though check out is at 11AM - we were encouraged to leave our car on the property and enjoy our day at the beach and leave whenever we wished. It's the little things!!! For the right person, this place is darling. But it wasn't right for us. The good: very friendly, casual atmosphere with a communal feel and an extremely helpful and personable innkeeper, Christine. But the 1st floor deluxe rooms are small (about 8 1/2 feet by 11 feet) with no closet and little floor space around the double bed. It's hard to find a place to put one's suitcase or clothes. The doors of the 1st floor rooms are about 2 feet from the bed and open onto the outdoor eating area, so there's little privacy. And there is no indoor public space, so in bad weather there's no place to relax except one's bed. We found it uncomfortable but others guests we met seems to like it a lot. Just spent a quick one night getaway at The Blue Whale Inn. It was a great decision to choose this place. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. We arrived around lunch and were able to park our car here, use the Inn's chairs, umbrella and outside shower to change to beach clothing. We walked down to the beach and spent the day until our room was ready around 4. Went out to eat on the recommendation of the Inn and enjoyed a late night complimentary bottle of wine when we got back.to our room. The next morning enjoyed the breakfast set up out on the patio, lovely grounds and then headed back home but you could stay and enjoy the beach the next day. My friends and I just had a Beautiful time at our stay at the blue whale inn . The service was probably the best that I have ever experienced ! The owners Christine , Steve and their son were just so lovely, and accommodating to everyone. Even though we had a little glitch with the weather , the staff at the inn couldn't have been more accommodating to us , even putting us up at another place due to a lightning strike and lost power. I would highly recommend staying at the Blue Whale Inn the food was delicious, the grounds were beautiful, from the breakfast, to the evening cheese crackers wine and cake at the end of the day will be a memory I will never forget thank you Christine and the staff. we will all return for sure !!!! read more

The owners made great efforts to make all the guests feel welcome. The rooms (beds and bathroom) were very clean and lovely. I have stayed at the Blue Whale Inn four times now and there is no other place I would stay when visiting Misquamicut. The Blue Whale Inn is for everyone! We have done a couples beach weekend, a friends birthday beach celebration, and a girls' beach weekend. Prior to this year's visit, I inquired (emailed) about a few things mainly pertaining to COVID related items/questions not only did they respond with in hours, but rather than email me they called me to answer all my questions. Typically, Christine puts out an amazing breakfast spread, but due to the restrictions she now gives each room a gift card to Sift Bakery in Watch Hill (now that's supporting local!). After spending a day at the beach we enjoy coming back sitting on the veranda and grilling a nice dinner. Christine, Stephen, and Keith go above and beyond when it comes to hospitality - they are so accommodating. I have only positive things to say about The Blue Whale Inn and would recommend it to everyone! read more

We weren't familiar with the area and she was happy to tell us all of the places to go! The complimentary wine was delicious and the room was immaculate. The whole property is so beautiful and well cared for. Due to covid-19, they weren't able to provide the complimentary breakfast to guests. We booked a room last minute at the Blue Whale for this past weekend. They were very nice to deal with on the phone. The Blue Whale is in a great location! Less than a five minute walk to the beach, restaurants and bars, but just far enough away to be nice and peaceful. From the front, it actually looks like a house, but the back where the rooms are is just great. There's a bunch of outdoor seating, and a nice yard with volley ball net. They leave you a bottle of wine in your room, which is a nice touch. We booked a room for two, and while the room was definitely small, it had everything we needed (including a mini fridge and microwave) and the bathroom was spacious. The decor was cute and beachy and the room was very clean. They include a wine and cheese hour in the afternoon (which we missed) and a breakfast spread in the morning (coffee and juice, pastries, bagels, cereal, fruit, yogurt). The set up of the outdoor space made it easy to socialize with other guests and we spent most of our time at the inn sitting outside. They allowed us to park at the Inn the morning we arrived even though check in wasn't until 3pm, which was much appreciated. They also have free wifi! This review is solely based on the experience my two girlfriends and I had. Our husbands planned a guys' weekend at one of their beach houses in Westerly with other friends, so the three of us wives decided to take a gal trip of our own in the same town! We stayed in the 5 person suite, which was great since I was 7 months pregnant! The bed for the 5th person was a pull out twin couch mattress that was VERY uncomfortable! So nobody slept there. When we got there, we waited 10 minutes in the office but nobody came, so we had to call the hotel number and then someone came. Giant fridge, clean, just great. NOTE: They do not give you conditioner, just "conditioning shampoo". Ladies, bring your own conditioner! Fabulous complimentary breakfast!!! Wow! Complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas too! So here's why it's only 1 star. The three of us were woken up at 11:30 our second night by horrific screams coming from a woman very close to our room. Like, I can't even put into words the terror the three of us felt. We called the office to let them know and said we were in suite 1 and we were scared. Time went by, the lights outside suddenly went off, and we had no idea what was happening. Naturally, we called our husbands to come get us because we were scared. It would have been nice if the owners, who later told us everything was settled, would have either knocked on our door to let us know we were safe, or give us a call on the cell they had on file. That's all I'm saying... Just out of courtesy knowing we were afraid. We ended up leaving that night and staying with our husbands because we were too shaken up to sleep. Turns out this was between members of the owners' family who stay in the house attached to the hotel. Overall did not feel safe here. read more

So this place was an unexpected grab bag of mixed experiences. To preface this - we were a group of 6 20-somethings that were looking for an available room close to the bars. First off, the owner was unbelievably friendly and a pleasure to deal with. As we found out when we got there, we were a bit outside the intended demographic. That being said we were treated with respect and a happy attitude. She went out of her way to do many things you would never expect of a modern innkeeper - such as coming to let us know about breakfast and checking up on us to make sure we were enjoying our stay. All of this came on top of a very friendly, can-do customer service attitude. If I could rate the service and attitude from her separately it would be 5 stars. The room itself was a 5-person 'suite', which was a bit cramped and homely. The unit was two bedrooms connected by a doorway, along with a tiny pullout couch in a small side room. There was really no space to sit or do anything other than sleep, but we made do hanging on the floor and the beds. As other reviewers have noted, the bathroom situation was less than convenient. The only bathroom was in one of the bedrooms, but we managed (I would imagine that would've posed a larger problem for a group of couples or families). The fridge was old and on the fritz (opened it to a pool of water melting off the freezer) but it kicked into gear for the last 2 days. The upholstery was pretty meh and resembled many a-grandparents house. Outside was a cool little patio area with some more modern furniture and a canopy/tent area where they serve the continental breakfast. The only off-putting part about the yard was the scattered collection of old children's toys all over the back lawn. Parking was essentially nonexistent (tiny stone-covered driveway). We were 6 people coming from 4 different states and were told after booking the room that we only get one parking spot by default. The owner was very accommodating and allowed us to double park in the front so we could fit at least 2-3 cars (we had to park the 4th one at the Stop & Shop down the road). We did have to move the cars a few times which was a minor pain considering we had to plan on driving around whilst out at the bars that we walked to. I did have a few interactions that warranted a bit of notable discomfort. I arrived early to check in and parked my car quickly so I could run in and just let them know I was here when the room was ready. Before I could even get out of my car, a member of the family immediately asked that I move the car because I was taking up too much room. After explaining I was just looking for the office, he let me head around back. I walked around back and waited 15 minutes or so for someone to come to the desk, after which there was some disagreement between the family members about someone attending the desk at all times. Later on, we were receiving instructions on the parking fiasco when the grandfather of the owning family approached me and said in a frustrated tone that he would 'appreciate it' if we could deal with less cars. After he was shooed away there was another verbal disagreement between family members about him being rude to customers. The whole series of interactions was very unsettling and made us feel like a burden as paying customers. All in all, the spot did its job for us. It could be a great place for certain people, but had I known it was such a small-scale family inn I would've looked for a more generic motel. The whole experience felt much more like staying at someone's house rather than an actual hotel, but some people may dig that. I do want to stress again the great attitude of (most of) the staff and the hard work they put in to what they do. read more

She goes out of her way for all the guests to make them feel welcome. The breakfast and coffee was a nice touch. The rooms are small cute and have character. It was also nice they let you leave your car at the inn on the day you arrive and leave to avoid parking fees. It's been a long time since we have stayed at a little place that was run independently. It was quite nice. As I have read in other reviews the walls were thin, and we could hear everything the couple was doing next door..lets just say they were not conservative people either..lol, but I kind of enjoyed that. The wife, ehhh not so much but she's less perverted than me..haha. Also the old mattresses and stuff lined up on the side of the building against our AC and window should really be disposed of. Thought that was kind of unsightly, but otherwise it was a very pleasant, clean and inviting place to stay. read more

I have stayed at various places in Misquamicut over the years, and none of them compare to the Blue Whale. Amazing! I wish I can give this 20 stars! The owner is very kind and the rooms are gorgeous! I fell in love with the interior designs as much as the outside design. We receive complimentary wine when we first come in! Sunset Celebration at 7 with many snacks & the garden has a playground and many toys to play with your family. The beach is right there and many nice restaurants! I love this place! Everything is VERY clean and very quiet and calm. Christine is a very amazing person! She spends her time and effort into this place and you have got to come here! Trust me. Coming back here for sure! Christine's hospitality made my experience here so much better! She is very polite and outgoing. She makes sure everyone is settling in okay and if they need anything! Definitely coming back here. I usually don't write reviews for places but this one is where I had to write a review because of how much I loved this place! The garden and yard is very well kept and cut. This place is a DUMP! It looks cute and quirky in the photos on their website, but in reality it is old, messy and a little dingy feeling. It seems like this was a single family home at one point and then they put an addition on with a handful of TINY rooms, which they outfitted with whatever old furniture, towels and random accessories they happened to already have in the house. We stayed in the so-called suite, which is comprised of 2 miniscule rooms separated by a divider. The bathroom is connected to the back bedroom, so if the people staying in the other bedroom needed to use it in the middle of the night, they would walk through your room to get there. And no there is no bathroom in the main area on the first floor, because there is no main area. The owner lives on the premises, and when you arrive, you proceed to a tiny closet to check in where a sign says to call the attendant. Smoking is permitted on the premises, which is great if you smoke, but we do not and did not appreciate having our neighbors' smoke pulled into our unit by the AC. The AC in our unit, by the way, was leaking, but that's nothing the highly capable staff couldn't fix by simply shoving a bucket under it. [I have to say- the owner seemed friendly and she is the only reason I feel bad writing this review]. The back yard features a mish-mash of furniture and accessories under a canopy and you have to step over unopened bags of mulch to get there. It really feels like you are crashing at a friend's place and you gave them about 15 minutes heads-up of your arrival and they did what they could to make the place barely inhabitable. We could not wait to leave and we cannot wait to NEVER come back! read more

This place is adorable! The rooms are clean, the yard is gorgeously groomed and the innkeepers are the kindest and most hospitable people. When we arrived, they had a complimentary bottle of wine for us. The next day, we had a delightful complimentary breakfast that surpassed any expectations. They also had chairs for us to take to the beach so we didn't have to travel with the car full of extra items. The ice maker was broken but they were readily available with extra bags of ice for us. They allowed our bachelorette party to use their brand new grill and have a cookout on the patio. We brought everything we thought we would need, but if we hadn't, Christine would have made accommodations. She even brought us out additional snacks of cheese and crackers while we cooked. A few years ago I had stayed about two blocks closer to the water but this locations atmosphere and décor was quite the upgrade. read more

The blue whale in unfortunately cannot accommodate us for every single night but the one night we were not able to stay they went out of their way to find another hotel and bargain match the price when we are arrived we were welcomed by the owners who are amazingly sweet and kind to let you use some beach chairs and umbrella's to borrow and along with that they even give you wine and cheese. We stayed at the inn for 2 nights and really appreciated the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the inn. We enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese as well as the complimentary breakfast each morning. We informed the inn that some of our family that lived in the area might stop by to hang out with us and they were so welcoming to them as well. We had a fantastic, relaxing weekend that was even better due to Christine's hospitality. She puts a lot of effort into the details and really makes the inn feel like a home. I've never quite stayed in a place like the Blue Whale Inn and would surely stay there again after our great experience there. Its also so close to the beach that you can easily walk there from her inn and not worry about parking. She also gives you a complimentary bottle of wine on your first night at check in which was very appreciated. She really helped set the tone for the weekend with all the little details.
