I recently got my hair toned and added some foils to bring up the lightness and let me say that I am always so pleased with the wash out. 9 years ago I started my color journey and although I've had good results in the past previous colorists weren't knowledgeable with curly hair care and my everything just fried up in the worst way. I lost my curl! Since my time here at Atlantic, Liz and her expertise with coloring my hair never messed up or killed my curl. My goal is to always preserve my curl and she uses different products to nourish and moisturize my strands whenever I come in. My posted Photos serve as proof that both curl and color remain intact. I've also had my hair braided by Michelle. She knows her stuff and has the best technique for braids and twists. She also does full service hair, cut and color. Levi recommend styling products for my hair type. He gave a really great head massage as he washed my hair! At this visit, I was never offered a drink. I know Atlantic Studio isn't the only salon to offer the Brazilian Blow-Out, but I still want to warn everyone that there is a controversy surrounding this treatment and that THEY MISLEAD THEIR COSTUMERS. The BKT controversy has been in the news (New York Times, etc.). A full story was published in Allure magazine about the possible side effects of using keratin treatments (2007). Here's one example: http://newyork.timeout.com/articles/spas-sport/24773/scared-straight I should have done my homework earlier because I elected to do this to myself, thinking it was all natural and a healthy alternative to other chemical treatments. Well, that's what the stylist (Levi) sold me on. He actually said it was good for your hair. When I got home and looked it up for post treatment care, I found out the formula contains formaldehyde, which is toxic, particularly as a gas. While receiving the treatment, you breathe in hot, steaming, noxious formaldehyde for the better part of two hours. My stylist didn't have a fan, or offer me a mask , even though the company which sells this product recommends (requires??) the stylist use a mask during application. All of these things should have been disclosed, along with the price, before I even sat in that chair to put the goop on my head. I spoke to the owner of the salon about it. She's done her research and had contacted OSHA about the possible risks of using BKT, but in my book that makes the offense worse. If she knows about the health risks and the controversy surrounding the treatment, isn't it her duty to disclose that to her customers? Selling something as a healthy alternative, when it's anything but, is really misleading. Shame on you. read more

Lizette has taught me how to embrace my Devacurls and I can't see myself going to anyone else. It's like finding "the one" after dating "the wrong ones"; there's no reason to go back to the others who have played with your emotions when the one who is treating you right, is right in front of you. She's outgoing and totally into creating a masterpiece. Money and time well spent. I gotta tell you though, I was very reluctant to return to this salon after my first experience here with a different stylist. I came to get my hair cut and blown out for a wedding I was going to attend. The girl (who shall remain nameless), was such in a rush, she left my hair frizzy! She knows what she's doing and is always friendly and professional. The prices here are reasonable, the staff is very nice and they'll give you refreshments if you'd like. I started coming here mainly because it was just a short walk from my place, but they're moving! Still on 4th St but closer to downtown--across from Berlin and Fingerprints. I fell in love with Lizette the first time I had the privilege of having her cut my hair. She cut a gorgeous pixie on me, and made the experience as relaxed as possible. I've had a pixie before, but it's hard to trust if the stylist knows what they're doing if you're considering letting them take a razor to your head! Perhaps one of the hardes things is finding a person you like to cut your hair. A lot of it comes down to personal preference and normally there are a few people who would work out fine, if you know where to find them. Atlantic Studio has Vinnie, who I think does an amazing job for a men's cut. She has a laid back demeanor but also knows her stuff and has a good vision of how the cut should look. Additionally, she is good conversation so the time passes quickly. As for the salon, I really like the new space a lot. It has the studio feel, as the name implies, and just a pretty nice vibe. Everyone is super friendly and says HI unlike other places where you feel completely ignored. They also have a sweet little dog running around looking for attention. I would definitely check out this place if you're looking for a change or if you haven't had any luck finding someone you like. read more

Bought a Groupon, made an appointment and found my new hair stylist, Levy! Salon is clean and modern. Levy is great with color and cutting. Hard to find a stylist who has mastered both. I didn't want to write a review because I wanted to keep him as my secret, but I couldn't do that to him. So if you need a cut or dye he's your guy! As of May 2018 Parking is now available in the lot next to the studio spaces 1-14. Otherwise there is metered parking on the surrounding streets. I went for a DevaCut with Vinnie. If you're a curly girl and your tassels need some love, make sure to show up with fresh naturalness. This will help the stylist identify where the weight issues are. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look up DevaCurl. It will change your life. I've been a patron of their philosophy and their products for about 5 years now. Always stayed away from Salons because they can be very intimidating, expensive and I leave feeling unfulfilled and ripped off. Im the type of guy thats like I'll just go to a Barber and have that same feeling there paying less money. Lizette Enters. I never knew the talent and artistry that goes into hair styling until I spoke with Lizette. The more and more she spoke about posture, how hair falls, work with you hair not against it, and then she got all mathematical with geometry and angles I was like WOW! She really is an Artist...and I hope there isn't a test at the end of this. This was all before she even picked up the scissors. The whole experience was amazing. First off, the place is really nice and inviting. Lizette is sweet, nice, funny, and that head massage tho, Damn!!! Low key sorry if i was making "creepy" noises, it was relaxing AF. You can tell Lizette really cares for her clients and loves what she does. How can you go wrong with a person like that? She asked me what I wanted but I felt safe giving her creative freedom with my hair because I could see she already had a plan for me. I feel that when someone is a master at something, never restrict their creativity and that was the smartest decision I ever made. I've been trying for years to figure out what to do with my hair and Lizette helped me find a style, FINALLY! This time I left the salon completely fulfilled and eager to finish this new plan we have made together. This experience was worth every cent and not only that I live in Silverlake. Real talk, I hate driving but that is an hour drive that is completely worth taking...and that's without traffic. I bought into a deal where I was given 5 visits for $50--2 for hair appointments, 2 facial appointments, and one manicure. HAIR: My stylist was very nice and friendly, but he repeatedly committed what is the cardinal sin of hair salons: trying to force me into buying a product I don't need/want. I realize this is part of the deal and I expected it to a certain degree. But when I cleary and plainly state that not only do I have near-full bottles of my current products at home, I LIKE my products and have no interest to switch, I want to be listened to. When the nudging and sales lines kept on flowing, I got really irritated. LISTEN to me and LAY OFF. SKIN: I loved my facial experience. I think my facialist's name was Rose? She was kind, helpful, soothing and applied just the perfect amount of salesmanship--giving me her honest opinion on a range of products, from Olay to gourmet. If I could afford regular facials, I would continue coming here regularly. MANI: My manicurist was so quiet for the first 2/3 of the appt I was bored out of my mind and felt a bit uncomfortable. Once she opened up towards the end, however, she was delightful. Alas, my polish chipped within 2 days despite me trying to be cautious with my hands. Would not go back. EVERYTHING ELSE: Every visit was supposed to come with a "complimentary beverage." I was offered nothing more than a teeny plastic shot glass of water on each appointment. I read more carefully and saw that they offer tea, wine and other beverages but I was only offered a crappy little cup of water on each visit. LAME. The receptionists were so-so. I didn't feel they were on the ball and one was attitude-y with me over an scheduling error they had made. Not appreciated. I will never go back. I went to this place once, and I felt like although were very nice, they basically didn't listen to me and gave me what they THOUGHT I wanted. Yeah, my hair looked better than it did before, but it was MUCH shorter than I wanted and I felt like the girl cutting my hair was more interested in talking to other stylists than seeing what I wanted. Prices weren't much better. Also, they lost my appointment (I had called a WEEK in advance) and I had to wait 1.5 hours until I could be fit in. Thanks guys! However, I didnt like the stylist that I got. He was trying to be friendly, but came off really rude. I came with my sister, who is super skinny and the man asked when I was due. That is so rude!!!! At the time I was chunky, sorry he thought I was pregnant. Lol After that, it was very awakward the rest of time. I loved the facial visit though!!! :) It felt so good, I fell asleep. They did such a good job here on that!!! And for the manicure visit, I didnt like how the lady took an hour doing my nails, thats a long time. Also, I wanted my nails purple and she didnt have any of that color. She only had: pinks, reds, oranges, yellows and browns. Yuck! I was next door at the coffee place with killer deserts waiting for a friend. She phoned and said she was sick and not coming. So with time that weeknight evening, I went to see if I could get a manicure and maybe a hair cut. The 2 receptionists were really flippant and couldn't be bothered with me. I asked about getting a price list and if they had a manicurist. I thought they were just busy, but I could get no information. They asked if I had an appointment or was a previous customer. Then ignored me for a really long time. They left the desk. They wore no name tags , so I can't tell yelp or the owner. IF they had bothered to talk to me I would have been happy with going back into Portfolios to wait if there was an appointment in the next hour for nails or hair or both. Or I would have come back another day if the prices were reasonable. I still don't know what their prices are, or if they have facials and other services. BTW, my nails are still unpainted , but I did get my hair cut at another place I was trying for the first time near my dry cleaner...and they get my business from now on. This is for Lizette! She is an incredible hair wizard, and an awesome human being. I have curly/wavy hair, and it's been so hard to find someone who knows what to do with my odd mix of curls. Lizette is trained in the Deva technique, and she really knows her stuff. I have gone to so many different hair salons over the years, and have never found anyone who I truly trusted with my hair. Until Lizette! She is a great stylist, communicator, and generally fabulous person. I got my hair done by her about two weeks ago, and am genuinely loving the cut (which never happens for me). I think I might have found my person :) Also: The salon itself. This studio is a really cool spot, its got good vibes and kind employees. I've been a customer at this salon since I was getting my hair done at age 6. The owner Janet does my Mom's hair and I've tried Carol, Chelsea, Janiece and Vinnie- they are all great. My last stylist moved and I'm so happy she referred me to an awesome hair stylist. I think Vinnie is awesome with cutting hair and Carol is the bomb at color. :) I love you guys!! Inconsistent at best! Went here for highlights once and the girl REALLY screwed up my hair. I have dark hair and I came out with orange highlights and I looked like a tiger - hah!!! But honestly though - It sucked because it cost quite a bit of money too! Their makeup is fun to look at and easy to get swayed into buying as they have a good selection. Customer service swings back and forth depending upon who's working. I've been going here for about two years for bikini waxes with Rosie and I absolutely love it. I am pretty conservative when it comes to bearing it all, or any part of it, but the salon is clean and inviting and Rosie is amazing at making you feel like you're just in for a hair trim. It is a bit pricey $45.00 dollars for a brazilian wax, not including tip but kind of worth it for the comfort level, especially if it is your first time trying it. I've never had a problem with their customer service. Granted, I've never had anything else done there but I did send my mom in as a birthday present to get her hair done and a facial. Robert by far has been the best hair stylist to this day!! Since the change was going to be drastic from very long hair to quite short, he asked various questions to understand what I had in mind. His recommendations were great and we agreed somewhere in between the photo examples I brought and his professional advice. As he worked I truly enjoyed his explanation on why he was performing certain techniques, I now appreciate the art of hair styling more! I have come here 3 seperate times for 3 seperate things. I will never go back. It starts with my first visit with my mom, we came to get microdermabrasion, they lied to my mom over the phone about the price. Couldn't fit her in, and were rude the WHOLE time. My Microdermabrasion girl (forgot her name) was awesome. (By they way everytime I come here, the "ladies" at the counter ignore EVERYONE and act like they are doing you a favor once they finally ask with an attitude "can I help you") Second time coming in, was for a facial. Poor choice, maybe I am spoiled with Complexions Day Spa, but this facial was not good at all. And of course It was 10 minutes before anyone asked me for help once I walked in and stood there looking at them, they were to busy on their iphones and facebook. And I agree with one of the comments below, everytime I come in they PUSH product sales to the extream. I can't stand that. 3rd time(suppose to be the charm right, WRONG) I didnt even make it to my nail appointment, why you ask, because it was close to TWENTY MINUTES before anyone acknowlaged me. Usually I would NEVER wait that long, but It was my day off, and I wanted to see just how long it would take. I finally said something once it hit the 19 minute mark and I told them I will never step foot into this establishment again! I walked out, I was not about to give them my money.
