The waiter service was...et em......not the most attentive nor conscientious. I would say inadequate. Needed to fetch him to give our order, did not check in on us after food or dessert. He never came to get our dessert order. Mind you and folks bringing the food and filling water and removing plates were very good and we avail ourselves out of their service to fetch the waiter. The seats were comfortable the lighting bright and the piped in music and cacophony of chortling diners a bit overbearing. Couldn't hear or be heard--frankly that was not a big deal since nobody really wants to hear what I have to say anyhow and nobody was revealing the directions to some hidden treasure. Please do not put 10 people at a table for 8...we were packed around the table like sardines. Numerous times when I was cutting my steak someone knocked into me and I easily could have sliced off a finger. The appetizers-- the calamari was absolutely perfect. Cooked perfectly and seasoned just right and also the coating was adherent and did not slough off when I cut the rings in half or champed on them. The friend zucchini is a signature appetizer for them but the garlic sauce steals the show! The meal--I ordered the fillet with an extra robust char and said medium would be fine. It came blue rare. No waiter to be found to cook it more but the bus person obliged. When it came back it was still rate but at that point I didn't have it in me. It came with a beautiful bulb of garlic! I applied the garlic and some butter and blue cheese dressing to the steak and with or without this amalgam it was amazing! Really worth all the logistics and service shortcomings. The creamed spinach was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The coconut cake was dense and rich--in a good way! It was delicious and I highly recommend it. I would have given the restaurant 4+ stars but the noise and poor waitstaff performance knocked it down to 3. I'll go back but will ask to sit in a less noisy location and/or ask for a white or grey-haired waiter. read more

I had the eggs Benedict with salmon and the eggs were cooked perfectly, nothing runny on the outside and the yolk with just enough firmness around the edge to hold its shape but plenty of golden lava to dip into. While I've visited for brunch before and always enjoyed it, this was my first time experiencing their dinner service, and now I understand why so many people rave about it. The first thing that surprised me was how packed the restaurant was on a Monday night. That alone speaks volumes about the quality of the food and service. Despite how busy it was, the staff remained attentive, professional, and welcoming throughout the evening. Everything we ordered was excellent. I've dined at Hendrick's many times over the years. It has always been a positive and incredibly delicious experience. It is a top Roslyn restaurant. The atmosphere is very nice and most important and the food is excellent.. For an appetizer the zucchini and eggplant chips are a must. They are crispy, thin and not oily. I could make a meal out of them. Another of my favorites are their clams oregenata. For cocktails, my favorites are the raspberry martini and the spicy passion margarita. I don't love too much spice so, I always ask for them to go easy on the spice level. When I am in the mood for a really good salad I order the Pear salad, the goat cheese, pecans and the light sherry vinaigrette makes it stand out. For an entree you can't go wrong with Prime Bone - in Rib eye for two. The steak is flavors, tender and delicious. I love fish so I often order the roasted black sea bass or the whole red snapper. For a side dish - the truffle fries are sinfully good. You can't go wrong with the asparagus or creamed spinach. I am usually too full to even contemplate dessert. Sometimes, I will share homemade apple crisp, or the Keylime pie. The only reason this is not a 5 star review is due to a few of the servers being a bit brisk and impatient. It has a large fireplace with a lot of seating to wait for your table or you can sit in the bar area. I always opt to sit by the fire place. You have to make reservations otherwise you would have to wait because this place was packed. Good drinks and great food. The staff was friendly and very fast. We got our drinks right away. We had a reservation and arrived a little early so we were told to sit in the lounge area while we waited for our table. My first impression of the place was that it was beautiful inside and the lounge area was very cosy with a fireplace and couches. There's a bar area and seating both upstairs and downstairs on the main dining level. We were seated upstairs where it felt a bit cramped as they had placed 7 seats around one circular table. I had sat in the chair with the back to the wall and it was a tight fit and I could barely move my chair. The other tables were placed very close together and I could hear the nearby tables' conversations with how loud the noise level was. It was a busy Sunday afternoon and my family and I were starving and ready to order, but we experienced a bit of a wait since our server was attending to other tables. The waiter was friendly but the delay was noticeable. Now onto the food, overall it was average with some hits and misses. I highly recommend the fried calamari and Mac and cheese as appetizers. Both were very delicious. For drinks, I ordered the cold blooded margarita and loved it so much. I ordered the salmon eggs Benedict but found the hollandaise sauce to be a bit too salty. There was a mix up with my order so while everyone else received their meals I had to wait a while for my order to be corrected. I was disappointed with the portion size of the home fries as it was quite small and barely had any potatoes. My mom ordered the steak and eggs and she liked how perfectly seasoned the steak was. We chose Hendrick's Tavern for my partner's birthday dinner this weekend, expecting a polished dining experience that matched the restaurant's reputation and prices. Unfortunately, the food and welcome fell well below our expectations. From the moment we arrived for our reservation, the hostess was noticeably cold and disengaged. We were not acknowledged right away, and when we were, there was no warmth, smile, or genuine welcome--just a flat request to wait in the "living room" until our table was ready. We were seated roughly 15-20 minutes after our reservation time, which I can understand on a busy Friday night, but the lack of communication or hospitality made the wait feel unnecessarily unpleasant. When we left, the hostess again did not acknowledge us or offer even a basic "thank you" or "good night." First and last impressions matter, especially at a restaurant at this price point. The food was equally disappointing. The Caesar salad was decent, and the mashed potatoes were the strongest item we tried, but nearly everything else lacked flavor and proper execution. My ribeye, ordered medium, arrived far too rare to enjoy. The branzino was exceptionally bland and seemed to have received little to no seasoning. The mushrooms also lacked flavor, while the Brussels sprouts were overly charred to the point of tasting bitter and inedible. Even the fries were only average. For a birthday dinner that cost as much as it did, the overall meal felt underwhelming and not worth the price. The steak my partner ordered and the Prosecco were fine (3/5), and our server was competent despite appearing to manage many tables, but neither could overcome the poor food and distinctly unwelcoming hostess experience. We were in town to visit family in Great Neck and they made a reservation at this place for the seven of us tonight. It was a great decision. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance with the low lighting and plenty of wooden features. We started off with some delicious cocktails, including the honeycrisp sangria. For appetizers, we had the zucchini and eggplant chips, wedge salad, calamari, clams oreganata, French onion soup, and two other salads. Everything looked and tasted great. For entrees we had the lamb chops, chicken, ribs, halibut, short ribs, Cornish hen, and cheeseburger sliders. All of the dinners were a good portion size and delicious. Dined at Hendrick's Tavern with a group on a Saturday night. Upon entering, I was very impressed by the restaurant's stylish decor. There's many sections of seating, and each section is stunning. The food was perfect. I had a chance to try many items and thought everything was delicious. The zucchini and eggplant chips were great and combined perfectly with the almond sauce. The pear salad was also very good. For entree, I shared the Dry Aged Porterhouse for two. It was absolutely devine and cooked exactly the way I like my steak. The Creamed Spinach was also excellent. For dessert, I tried the Key Lime Pie and the Carrot Cake, and both were just exquisite. I was not able to stop eating either of them. This was my second meal at Hendriks Tavern after a wonderful first experience with my family, so we were really looking forward to going back. Unfortunately, the service at the door left a bad taste this time. We arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation -- just myself, husband and my two daughters -- and confirmed that our whole party was present. Instead of seating us in the main dining room (which had several open tables), we were led downstairs into an empty side room with about 15 vacant tables and no atmosphere at all. The host tried to seat us right in the middle of that empty space. We were dressed nicely and couldn't understand why we were being placed away from everyone else. When we politely requested to sit back in the main room, the host seemed annoyed, spoke into a microphone, and reluctantly moved us. It was awkward and frankly, offensive. The food, once again, was excellent -- but the attitude from the host really diminished the overall experience. I had dinner there last night, 5:00p reservation for 2. I'm a frequent patron of this restaurant and enjoy it very much, however, last night was not the best meal we've had there. The atmosphere and service as always, was impeccable. The salad and dessert courses were exceptional. The issue was main course. I ordered Filet Mignon, 12oz., MEDIUM. My wife ordered the Short Ribs. The meal was lackluster and poorly prepared. The filet was dry, chewy, and not a single speck of pink. It was basically cooked well done. If you're going to charge $70 for a 12oz. filet, I would expect it to be cooked PERFECTLY as I ordered it. It seemed no care was put into this at all. The short ribs were extremely fatty and again, as with the filet, dry and not tender at all. Again, I am a frequent patron of Hendrick's Tavern and have always had an enjoybale experience and great meals. Last night was not a good meal. As far as appetizers go the Maryland Crab cake was delicious; the fried calamari could have used more seasoning and flavor. Two words: Wagyu Steak! That's a must try. It was simply plated with a bulb of roasted garlic and a sprig of rosemary. You need nothing else but of course sides -- we ordered three sides for the table (and more entrees, I'll get to that). - creamed spinach (it was creamy and surprisingly not heavy) - hash brown potatoes (super crispy top, almost too crispy) but totally enjoyed the potatoes once I got through the top. - roasted brussel sprouts (a little too roasted as they were almost charred black but good flavor, I just would have liked it more green still) Other entrees: braised beef short ribs served with mashed potatoes and some watercress. Three sliders come in one order. FYI. Fries were on point! Burgers were a tad dry. Appetizer of the night: roasted bone marrow. Two bones in the order, sliced and served with a shallot marmalade and toasted baguettes. The shallot marmalade was nothing special to note but I tasted it to try it. Even tried it with the marrow...nope. Best to eat the marrow by itself or use the baguette to soak up all that gooey juice and oil. LOL Overall waiter service was meh. He was smiling and friendly but didn't see him much. Other support staff was okay - did their tasks as needed (cleaned the table, cleared plates, but sadly I had to ask three times for a refill on our water). No one checked on us. Tsk tsk for a restaurant of this caliber, I expected more service. Also, my Reisling was served quite chilled.. and not poured tableside. (Why?!) So I obviously got an old bottle probably opened for a while. Never saw the label which I usually like to see. Speaking of chilled, so was the restaurant. Too cold for an enjoyable meal... especially concerning if your food gets cold. While I did enjoy my food overall, there is definitely room for improvement. This was my second visit to Hendrick's Tavern, the first for Sunday dinner and this time for brunch. While dinner was good, the overall cost, from drinks through dessert, made it feel like more of a special-occasion experience than somewhere I'd return to regularly. Unfortunately, brunch left me feeling the same way. From start to finish, the pricing did not quite align with the quality of the meal. We began with the breakfast pizza, which was recommended to us. The dough tasted like a pre-made crust, not what I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. It was topped with a creamy cheese base and a bit of spinach, and finished with a sunny-side egg that looked somewhat underwhelming. Wanting the best of both breakfast and lunch, I ordered the steak and eggs. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly. However, the breakfast potatoes were a bit greasy, and the strip steak was thin, somewhat gristly, and a little chewy, again not the quality I anticipated. We ended with the coconut cake. While the portion was modest, it was enough to share. What surprised me most was the price. For what was served, the cost felt disproportionate, especially when compared to what one might purchase at a quality bakery. On Saturday August 23, 2025, at 4:00 pm we made a reservation for the outdoor seating area and were promptly greeted upon arrival. The hostess seated us quickly, and with so many waiters and busboys around, we expected excellent service and further there were only two other tables occupied by other parties. We waited about 5 minutes just to receive menus, which was the first sign of what turned out to be a very disappointing experience. About 10 minutes later, our waiter finally approached us because I waived at him. We had a few simple questions about the menu, but wasn't helpful at all, uninterested and lacking basic knowledge about the offerings. When the appetizers arrived, all the sudden all staff waiters and busboys disappeared. We could see them inside the restaurant, cleaning up after a party inside the restaurant. No one checked on us for 25 minutes. When the busboy finally returned, he said "sorry we had a meeting." That explanation was both unprofessional and unacceptable. I asked about the bread, which should have been placed on the table at the start of our meal. He had no response. As a paying customer, we expect to be treated with the same level of attention and respect as anyone else dining at your restaurant. The food was overpriced, especially considering the horrible service we received. Sadly, this experience was deeply disappointing. I will not return and will not recommend this restaurant to others. There are plenty of other establishments that will provide both better food and superior service. I actually received better service at a local Pizza shop. read more

Mothers Day. We had a rezzie for weeks. My daughter treated me to dinner and we were excited. We are both successful so we were dressed very nicely and arrived on time. First impression was the hostess. Miserable attitude. No greeting. No "Happy Mothers Day". She looked for our name and told us to sit in the bar and wait. Not a problem, We both wanted a cocktail anyway. But trying to get the barman's attention was another matter. Tried to make eye contact with 3 men behind the bar and was ignored. Finally we settled with our drinks when we were told the table was ready.....upstairs. :( Steep steps and we were shown to a table where the floor slanted downward and I kept feeling like I was falling. It was claustrophobic up there and there were families with small kids and babies surrounding us. Why were we put up there. Does this restaurant consider two women eating alone something to be hidden ? Not for nothing, I'm no spring chicken and the steps were challenging. The food was great. The wedge salad was a bit dry and needed more dressing but everything else was delicious. The waiters were very attentive and happy. And the drinks were good. I'm just annoyed we were pre-judged by the snob at the front desk and shuffled away and dismissed. This is my second experience at Hendrick's. The first was at Christmas Eve. The overall experience was OK. The seating area was not in the core restaurant, but looked like the tables were set up in a larger banquet room. It was the equivalent of eating in the main dining room of a large cruise ship (no joke!), so it was a bit overwhelming. We also got off to a slow start as it took about 30 minutes after seating for our initial drink order to arrive. Overall, the food and service were decent despite the chaotic setting and initial misstep, so I was willing to give the overall experience a pass. That being said, my family returned here on Mother's Day, and I immediately regretted coming back. To begin with we were a party of 5 and our seating was at a C shaped table back near the bus station in the older part of the restaurant. The table made for awkward conversation, and there was an unusual amount of activity near the table given its proximity to the bus station. I would say that it was one of the worst tables in the restaurant. There was not even a chance of moving since the place was packed, so we sucked it up so to speak. It did not make for a pleasant dining experience. The place was a total zoo like I had remembered, and every square inch of the restaurant is jammed with tables. There was a constant parade of servers, bussers, and patrons passing by and knocking into the table. It was a claustrophobic experience at best. Now let's get to the food. I had ordered a veal chop medium rare. When it was served, it was prepared medium well. This is a steak restaurant. There is absolutely NO excuse for this. The server took it back once I complained, but by the time, I received my replacement chop, everyone else at my table had finished their dinner. My dining experience was ruined. To boot, the replacement chop was a bit undercooked as it had obviously been rushed out to get to my table. The entire entree was a major fail. In addition, two other people in my party had the Colorado Ribeye, which they ordered "black and blue". They truly enjoy their meat very, very rare. One was done medium rare, but the other was done medium well. Again, how does this happen at a steak house?? They chose not to complain about their entrees and sufferered through their meals. Also, it should be noted that the cut of their steaks was strangely thin, like a hanger steak. Net-net, those two entrees were a total FAIL as well. In summary three of the five steak entrees were ill prepared. At these prices, this restaurant should be ashamed of themselves. The Chicken Parmesan tasted like it was fully cooked and the top was cheesy and delicious. The brownie sundae was delicious as well and the ice cream with it was filling. I would come back to this restaurant. Everything was great!! read more
