Recently I had my 36 year pool renovated. I had previously renovated it in 2006. It wasn't in bad shape but needed to be redone. I met with 3 pool contractors and selected Atlas Pools, Inc. From the very first, the owner, Tulio Alarez, was very efficient, knowledgeable, and fully explained how the work would be done, and answered all my many questions. The work began on 3/16/26 and was completed in one week. His workers were very professional, answered questions, and cleaned up after their work. The pool was checked to be sure there were no leaks, and a new required drain was installed. The finished pool is beautiful white plaster and Tulio was able to save my tiles and cleaned them up. In 2020 Atlas Pool Concepts installed a new liner in our Pool. The liner fit perfectly and we have not had ant problems until this year when a large amount of rain caused ground water behind the linerand causing the liner to come lose in olin many places. Called alArlas on a Saturday of a holiday weekend. They came over and the water ground water had gone down creating wrinkles in the deep and shallow ends. Atlas was able to reattach the liner and remove ALL the wrinkles. I will never call any other company to work on my Pool. Id you do you are wasting your money.​ read more

Atlas pools went above and beyond. Tulio and his team were amazing. Tulio's guys are hard workers, extremely efficient and really good at troubleshooting if it came down to it. We basically needed a facelift for our pool, which was done poorly about five years ago with another company. Atlas pools were able to do a gentle demo protecting our current pebble tech which many other Pool company's said was impossible. Tulio's team was able to reform all of our coping and replace all of our tile that was currently falling off every day. While they were at it, I wanted to turn our three person, tiny, half circle Jacuzzi into a giant eight person square Jacuzzi. Tulio and his team were up to the task and did a beautiful job. It came out better than we could have imagined. I have already referred them to three close friends who have been on site to see the work for themselves. For what this guy charges he should be lining your tiles with Gold. Ok maybe that's a bit much but the quality of work doesn't match the price. Water pools in places it shouldn't like in front of our fireplace and fountain. There are just too many flaws in the details especially for the price they charge. We used Atlas Pool to remodel our back, side and front yards. The outdoors were not remodeled since the house was built, so it was really outdated and needed repairs. Atlas pool was amazing to work with: super responsive with Cheryl handling paperwork, updates and invoices. Tulio was awesome to work with, such a nice guy, listening to his clients. And the crew was hard working, 6 days a week. The crew was large and dedicated to our project, so they accomplished a lot in reasonable amount of time. We have a small backyard and a ton of family. We reached out to Atlas on a referral from a neighbor who just completed their pool. Our goal was to take our small space and transform it into a place where our friends and family could come together and have fun! Little did we know Atlas does more than pools! Response to Tulio's comments: Response to Tulio's reply: Our pool was completed in the spring of 2020, not 2019 as he mentions, more confusion with numbers on his part. We waited one year to see what other issues may arise if any before posting. We expressed to him how unhappy we were with the entire job start to finish. Tulio acknowledged all of his errors, there was never a dispute as to what happened so it's odd in his reply he makes a bunch of excuses. He just could not afford to honor his original quote. The budget he mentions is not true, unsure why he would make that up. Our signed contract was for $169k including plaster, turf, irrigation and full completion of pool and a patio pergola. After he went over by $50k in the first 2 weeks he shut down the job for 6 weeks while he redid his numbers and got us "real" numbers on the balance of the job as his good faith numbers were far from good faith. We were afraid at this point that the job may end up costing us double what he quoted. It was our fault for believing him when he told us he never goes over his contact quote. He said he could not believe how far off he was and by the time he realized what happened it was too late, he was stuck with the higher price from his vendors, meaning we were now on the hook for it too(plus his 30% commission). After the 6 weeks of down time while he got his act together we started back up with a new quote that now was far off from his original quote, he absorbed a small amount of his pricing errors but we absorbed the majority of it. He kept pointing out he needed to make money and all the errors were costing him his commission. Even with being annoyed, we felt bad for him at this point as it was a disaster. In the end we paid him $189k, it did not include plaster, turf, irrigation or a number of other items that were in our original $169k contract. We ended up having to hire and pay outside contactors to finish those items as well as haul out all the back fill he left(he said he couldn't find anyone at a fair price to remove it so told us to pay for it and take off his final check). In the end, our agreed upon changes amounted to about $11k and between what we paid Tulio + the contractors who finished the job, we were tens of thousands over his original price. I think this was an eye opener for him and was a careless mistake on his part when quoting/managing our job but we did lose faith in him early on in the job. His comment on the turf is untrue. We have the original plans as does he, they call for over 900 feet of turf, almost exact to what we did. Not sure why he would say we added 800 feet of turf. Outright lie. His excuse when he realized the error(the week the turf was to go in) was that he "measured wrong, sorry guys". He actually said that, it was crazy but we were used to these type of excuses at this point. At no point did he say we added extra square footage as he knows that did not happen. The wall was pointed out to him 2 weeks after completion and he told us to watch it and keep him posted. His own employee said they should have made the expansion joints wider. A good quality wall should not have cracking within 2 weeks and a good quality contractor cares about these details. To not cover this was petty. The cost to fix was minor but shows how little he cares once final payment is made. My warning is just to watch out if you go with Tulio. Make sure you get a real bid with solid numbers and you watch the costs week to week. Do not sign a good faith pricing contact with him. Maybe he learned from all of his mistakes on our job. However, he is misleading with his excuses as these are nowhere near what happened or was ever discussed during our project. I had previously uploaded a few pictures of how he left our property, the pictures speak for themselves. He damaged existing concrete/walls during excavation and this is how he put them back together, in pieces. It was weird. Instead of laying full pieces of concrete in our side yard(a small 100 sq ft area) he merely filled in 6 or 7 spots(some in triangular shapes). So now we have a puzzle of concrete shapes in our side yard. Luckily it is the side yard but sort of crazy he thought that was acceptable. For a few hundred dollars more he could have put it back in the same shape he found it when he started the job. Overall an unprofessional experience but happy with our designers and the contractors that helped finish the project. read more

After enduring three absolutely horrific experiences with contractors for our interior remodel, we were pretty scarred and justifiably hesitant when the time came to do our exterior remodel. We didn't want to end up in another situation like any of the ones we'd already gone through, and almost decided that it just wasn't worth it to go through all the torture again. We could live with our decaying wall and dirt yard, right? I mean, who really needs to go outside anyway? (I know it sounds dramatic, but if you've dealt with bad or crooked contractors, you understand.) Then we met Tulio from Atlas Pools. Tulio was a Godsend. He exuded warmth, knowledge, experience, professionalism, honesty, and trustworthiness (And again, if you've dealt with contractors, you know how rare this is). We spoke with him at length, discussed the project in depth, and saw an example of his work in person -- a gorgeous, refreshing backyard oasis in the canyons of Coto de Caza -- and finally decided to give it one last shot. Well, let's just say that he blew us away. His crew came out and just went to work. No 50,000 questions, no complaining, no tired excuses... I've had the unfortunate luck of having to deal with many construction crews, and Atlas Pools' crew's work ethic just put them all to shame. The whole process was completely painless. The workers were on time every morning, worked hard every single day, and got things done. I would get exhausted just watching them. None of the typical slow-moving workers that stand around and watch each other take turns at hammering in a nail over here (probably the most frustrating thing to watch, Ever). The usual headaches that come with any project - going over-budget or taking twice as long - didn't happen this time. We realized they were so good, we didn't even need to watch over them. Let me put it this way: we even left on a 3-week trip to Argentina while we were in the middle of construction because we came to trust them so much to do things properly that we didn't feel the need to be there. Now That's crazy (especially for an ever-so-slightly controlling person like myself :)). And a great little bonus was that they were all always, always so cheerful - we even had a couple neighbors comment on the fact that our workers were so delightfully different - always smiling and joking with each other without it detracting from their work and their ability to effectively complete tasks on time. Tulio came by diligently every single day to check on the progress for the whole 3+ months it took to complete (it was a big job). And he was always enthusiastic, polite, and a pleasure to work with. Not only did Atlas Pools do what the plans called for, but they did it magnificently, and even suggested little changes here and there that would improve the outcome both functionally and aesthetically (which is another thing I truly appreciate, because working with bad contractors, you'll soon learn that if the plans accidentally say to put a window on upside-down, they'll put that window on upside-down without giving it a second thought). These guys truly take pride in their work, and it shows in the results you get. We were so ecstatic with the work they did on the backyard that we asked them to stay and do our front yard as well, which wasn't in our plans for another year or so. They completely demo'ed the entire front yard, including driveway and steps, and built an absolute masterpiece to match the stunning new backyard. In the end, Atlas Pools built the following things for us: demo and rebuild a 50-foot long retaining wall on a hill plus two side walls and veneer the whole thing in brick, regrade the back and front yard, 16-foot outdoor kitchen, sun deck, triple waterfall with basin, over 2000 sq. ft. of hardscaping with flagstone, custom firepit, covered patio, several planters, side yard walkways, demo and reform steps to house, grand entry to house, demo and redo driveway, plus they did all the drainage, electrical... and a whole slew of other things I don't fully understand. Atlas Pool's work is top notch. Tulio makes sure of it. His work ethic is honest, consistent, and transparent. He is everything you want in a contractor, and more. I called the original installers and Hayward and they recommended Atlas Pools as their 'go to' local repair firm for situations like this. Just had Tulio (a delight to work with) out to replace the drive/circuit board and in short order, we're back to daily pool and spa use. In fact, we liked them so much we're having them out to re-grout where our pool tile meets the decking. I gave them my number but I never received a call and no one showed up so I sent a follow up email to the office. I have no comment on their work but I am afraid their prices to fix the pool is outrageous. I have asked atlas pool to come and check our pool. Few of our pool tiles were fallen and needed to be put back. A guy came and measured the area and sent me a proposal to fix it with $1100 just for about nine square feet! He told me that he can not work upside down and need us to drain the whole pool! However Our pool guy brought a guy who fixed it with $150. We only drained the pool until below the tile line and let it dry for few days and he cleaned and fixed all the tiles. I can't believe how they have no basis for their prices. read more

This was a large expensive project for us. Initially, Tulio (owner of Atlas) referred us to Brad Morton to draw up the backyard design. Brad did a very nice job with the designs, but it did cost $5500. In contacting other contractors, the design generation was included with the bid. So, this was an additional cost. We gathered 5 bids in total. Atlas was the most expensive by at least 25%. We used Atlas pools for our pool, spa, concrete, and outdoor kitchen. Altas uses subcontractors. In general, we were happy with there on time and show up rate. What I didn't appreciate was the remains of food thrown all over the yard. We would have to go out at the end of each day and make sure there weren't things (i.e. chicken bones) our dogs could eat on the ground. They drank beers at lunch which I wasn't fond of. I felt that I was often discounted for being a female. I was repeatedly asked when my husband would be home. The project moved very quickly initially and we were told we would have water in the pool by Labor Day weekend. This didn't happen, it was late Oct. before the water went in. Tulio suggested we contact an outdoor designer for assistance with picking out stone, concrete, etc. This was very helpful as I was very overwhelmed by what materials to use. He also suggested a place for us to buy our BBQ island equipment. This was very helpful as well. Pool construction: I really can't comment much on this as I'm not experience with pool construction. In general, our plans were followed and I'm happy with the overall look. Tulio was helpful in suggesting equipment needs, number of jets, and other things that we wouldn't have known about. Outdoor kitchen/Island construction: This is where things fell apart. This was not a small undertaking and came in at total cost of around $40K. The island was supposed to have a cantilever (countertop level with a step up to bar height). When initial construction was completed it became obvious something was wrong. The cantilever was way too high. Once the granite went on it would have been about 48 inches high, standard is 42 inches. Abe the builder said it was high because we had a high fridge. None of this was ever communicated to us. In general, communication on key details was lacking. In the end we made a compromise and dropped the cantilever. Tulio was good about fixing it and I think we were more than fair in accepting a compromise. The whole thing could have been avoided if there was better communication. I'm still unhappy with the installation of the side burner. I was not set all the way back and there is a gap. The island isn't exactly what we were wanting. Island building, I would give a C+. Concrete: We have a diagonal design in our concrete. There were some extraneous lines added that they said were needed for stress cracks. They look odd. We do have some large cracks that formed and I'm waiting on being fixed. Initially, they tried to fill in the cracks. This looked horrible. Now they're going to take out the cracked sections and re-pour it. The color will be off. Disappointing given the amount we paid. They're saying it cracked because the day was so hot when they poured the concrete. Not really a good excuse in my opinion. I'm not a concrete expert but to me visually the concrete job looks sloppy. We did have a pretty large issue with one of Tulio's contractors, Oscar the electrician. He was on the phone quite a bit while here working. I know because I could hear him yelling into the phone throughout the day. Oscar told my husband he was going to show up on Sat. when he finished up Friday. He no showed. My husband was very upset as he changed his weekend plans to accommodate him. My husband confronted Tulio about Oscar's being on the phone and no showing. We then received a ranting, cursing phone message and txt from Oscar. Here is the txt, I will only edit the foul language, "What its you f***ing problem with me, my phone its non of your business mother F***, you pay my bill" "Its my phone and I pay for it mother, I do whatever I want with my phone, my phone did you hear my phone". We asked he not return to our property after this. I did say I would call the police as I found him threatening, scary and having anger issues. Tulio did keep him away. If I had it to do over, I would not use Altas for the outdoor kitchen/Island or concrete. For the pool they seem to do a good job, but not sure it was worth double the cost of other contractors. read more
