If I'm being completely honest we expected the food to be ok but not the best as that's typically how places like this are. We were so wrong!! We started with the mozzarella sticks and they were out of this world. Next up was Caesar salads; not the best but still good- they needed more dressing and it needed to be a creamier dressing but the lettuce blend was fresh and they put a ton of cheese and croutons. Unfortunately we had to take our dinners to go as we were running short on time. We should have planned to have been there longer; this was the only issue we had. Unfortunately they only had two servers and they were slammed. The food was great but the service just too long. If we didn't have somewhere to be we wouldn't have been phased by it; we wouldn't have even noticed how long everything took because we were so immersed in the environment. When we got home we had our dinners and again we were expecting them to just be ok because we were heating them up. Again we were wrong! I had the short rib sandwich and it was AMAZING, loaded with onions and mushrooms it was crazy good. My husband had the steak tips and again phenomenal. We will definitely be back when we have nothing to do afterwards. *I'd like to add the staff was great just very busy!

We were with a six-year-old so we ordered a pizza for him shortly after sitting down. It came about an hour and a half after we walked in. It took at least 3/4 of an hour to actually be able to put in the rest of the order and probably well over a half an hour to get it, which we did at least 20 minutes before the youngster got his pizza... there was also hardly any people in the restaurant. I would definitely recommend it but make sure that you're not in a rush and you're not starving because it will take a while. It is fun though and delicious.

Whether you're looking to adopt a new best friend or just want to spend some quality time with some kitties, I highly, highly recommend checking this place out and supporting their mission! Let me begin by saying that coffee is a hard thing to review. Everybody has different tastes, especially when it comes to coffee. And most peoples tastes are, sorry America, based on generations of Dunkins or Folgers and now Starbucks shit that really does coffee a disservice. There is, believe it or not, actually a way to prepare coffee according to established standards that the best cafe's in the world follow, check it out on coffeegeek.com. Having been a loyal patron to the Atomic Cafe for years I can vouch for them in saying that Atomic follows these standards from their fair trade green coffee selections, to their roasting process, to the way they grind and pull shots, and even to the way the steam milk and pour drinks. Even the storage of both the espresso blends and drip coffee beans are in line with these standards. If you don't like the coffee there are a few reasons for why this may be. 1. You are used to shitty coffee and your taste buds can't make the change. I'm sorry. 2. Perhaps the beans were old or had a bad bean in the batch, which can actually throw off the drink dramatically. 3. Maybe you had a new barista who didn't really know what they were doing, it's ok, they will learn and it will be better next time. If you enjoy espresso and coffee that tastes like burnt toast dropped in hot water there is always Trevi and What's Brewing Coffee across the street to check out. As far as food goes, Atomic has a decent selection of food to choose from. They don't pride themselves in serving gourmet foods neither do they serve crap, if you want a tasty sandwich you are in luck! Let me remind everyone though that the Atomic Cafe is one of the highest volume cafe's I've been in. I live in Seattle right now and haven't experienced rushes and masses of people that I've seen in the Atomic Cafe. With that being said, the food menu is set up to provide tasty light meals to go with your coffee, or drink of choice. Because of the volumes of people that come through the place it's impossible to do any more than what they currently have to serve, so if you don't like the selection I'm sorry, there are just too many people coming through there to change anything. if you don't mind making the trip The Atomic in Marblehead serves a bit of a broader food selection. Check it out. To conclude, can reviewers please stop reviewing the clientele!! I mean for heaven's sake, there is an Art School literally behind the Atomic, and the Atomic is also a gallery space for artists to hang their work. So of course there are going to be "artsy, and trendy" kids and college kids coming in and out of the Atomic. Responding to one of the reviews here, there ARE two Art-school grads that work there who are not pretentious and condescending but probably some of the nicest people I know. If you feel looked down upon I'm sorry, but take that up with the clientele, don't bitch about it here. Four stars for good coffee, good service, and good food that exceeds how good it should be when measured up to the volume of people that place sees. read more

I love reading these comments for those of you who are regulars at atomic you know i am in there everyday (mainly out of necessity) and i truly have fell in love with this place. After Atomic's recent paint job/cleaning i think the vibe is even more inviting! The staff changes quite often (besides a few vet's) as with any other small businesses so if you had a poor experience give it another go because its worth it! I recently went to another coffee shop in Salem (no name calling here) and the price of a sandwich with a tiny bag of cape cod potato chips was 9+ after tax. I was outraged to pay that for turkey cheese and tomato or a sliver of bread. At atomic you can get a sandwich chips (wise ridges) and a pickle for under 7 bucks and its very filling with a 1/4 pound of meat in some of the sandwiches. Though its not an everyday thing its worth the treat. And i got a really good dessert here for 2 dollars, where at this place in Salem for a piece of sub par cake i paid 6 dollars YIKES! I also agree with a few other people about the coming after 4pm. It gets real quite at night and its the perfect place to bring a date or to study. Grab yourself a tempting mocha or my personal favorite a raspberry graham cracker bar YUM! So that's the word! read more

VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Only giving it even one star because its required to post a review. After waiting 20+ minutes for my order I asked an employee to check on it as I had been waiting so long and my name hadn't been called. She came back and told me they didn't have a ticket with that name that "someone must've taken the my order by mistake" I asked if they could remake my sandwich now as I was on my lunch break and had to get back to work. After going back and asking the person making the food I was told it was a 15 minute wait for food. I asked why I had to wait again for an order put in 25 mins ago. I was told "it wasn't their fault someone had taken my food, it happens all the time" It would've taken all of 5 mins for a sandwich to be made for me. Instead of doing what they could to rectify the situation they chose to not hold themselves accountable for the mistake in any way. Atomic Café, as a company providing a service when a customer doesn't receive that service it is your "fault" and your responsibility to make it right. Management should probably make the employees aware of this. read more

My first latte! Congratulations for being my first taste of a Latte. What is a latte? I just know it was strong with a taste of sweetness. Am I supposed to be wired after a Latte? I felt HIGH after it. hahahha. I ordered a cupcake as well. Maybe they baked teh cupcake with some ganja. just kidding. I love this place. I love the little bar area with stools. I sat there and enjoyed the conversation between the two workers behind the bar. There was also a portfolio of an artist. overall, i felt like i was lost in a cafe atmosphere with rain dripping outside. I also don't want to forget the friendliness of the workers. One funny story: I was sitting at the bar so I had the two workers right in front of me. One of the workers was wearing a very short shorts. So most of the time I laid my eyes on the ceiling.... they probably thought i was a weirdo.(which I am). it's hard to avert my eyes when short shorts are everywhere!!!!! hahah. Atomic, is quite the hang out in Beverly, and one of the best coffee shops in town. The cafe mocha there is a life changer, one sip and this place became my daily stop for coffee, and it helps living one block away too from it. Oh, even more tempting it all the interesting roasts of coffee in the front, that are all roasted right in-house. That is something special, as most coffee shops don't do their own roasting. I especially love being able to be some good Guatemalan coffee, which I highly prefer, okay I'm little bit of a snob due to having studied Fair-trade coffee there. But otherwise Atomic's laid back atmosphere, and good coffee, I can find no better place to write what I hope becomes the next New York Times Bestseller or maybe just any type of seller. I just thought I should mention that Atomic Cafe has been taking credit cards for awhile now so all of those negative comments about that are pretty irrelevant at this point. Atomic Cafe has been one of my favorite place to meet with people in Beverly for the past few years. I am super impressed with the quality of the coffee drinks they serve and the special touches they add with the latte art and garnishes for the hot coco... Although lunch is super busy and popular with all of the people that work down town, Atomic is an ideal place for me to study or work in the morning and evening hours... As far as the atmosphere goes, it's not for everyone but if you prefer bland sterile places with no art, music, or characters than just go somewhere else! So i was in beverly early this morning and thought i'd grab a quick breakfast. I was walking down cabot st. and saw that Atomic was pretty busy. I'd never had their breakfast before, just their coffee and I had lunch once (i got something with goat cheese on it, a panini and it was really good)... Today, i asked for a ham egg and cheese and got a bacon egg and cheese, and I watched them heat it in a microwave... not a fan... I mean, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either, u know? The coffee's been good before, i used to go a lot when I was in school but today it tasted a little burnt. It was kinda cool tho that they were roasting the beans right as I was walking in. The Atomic Cafe does now accept credit cards. I work here, so certainly I'll give it 5 stars. But I was a customer from the cafe's inception 11 years ago and I would have given it 5 stars then too. The Mahoney brothers (owners) have a commitment to quality and, especially, to community that I find inspiring. Which of course is why I also enthusiastically took on work here. I'm proud to have helped in the Atomic's growth by getting our roasting program started (we (actually just I, presently) roast all of our own coffee, which have even been reviewed on www.coffeereview.com) by contributing to our graphic design and assisting the Mahoney brothers in opening their second shop in Marblehead. read more

Went earlier this week in the afternoon. Food and coffee are fine, space is nice. It was POURING out and I watched an employee kick out four women after yelling at them and causing a huge scene. I guess they had brought food in from elsewhere, but it looked like they all got Atomic stuff too. He straight up yelled at them and they all looked super embarrassed and upset. They all left and I kid you not the employee said "bye losers" as they walked out! I have NEVER seen customers treated so poorly by a business. It was disgusting. I'll never go back. The best coffee/espresso on the North Shore! Get there early if you want a bagel sometimes they run out. The line can be long but moves quickly. Sometimes you can't find a seat but I guess the secret is out. The staff has always been friendly to me and even with the artsy vibe it still seems very welcoming. Most of the customers are business people and families not art school hipsters although there are some. It just seems like the classic neighborhood sandwich/coffee shop but with much better coffee. The coffee is roasted in the cafe itself and you can see many awards they have received in the small side room where the roaster is. Plus free Wi-Fi! read more

Good coffee, decent food, little over priced for what it is. Unless your favorite bands are Weezer, 30 Seconds to Mars, or something like that, and you have a Apple computer, and are a male who wears ridiculously tight black jeans with dark rimmed eye glasses, and cringe when someone talks sports, this place may make you feel a bit out of place. I've been in there a hundred times but still feel like I just immigrated to the country when I'm in there. If you eat there, turn around and don't look at the dude making your food. I finally found a place that serves decent espresso! Been here several times now and I really can't say anything bad about the coffee except that their machiattos have too much milk...more like a cappuccino! Everything else is kinda average...sandwiches are good but nothing really seems to stand out and the pastry case is lacking in variety I think. i dont know about you, but i dont like it when people treat me like a nuisance. thats the kind of service you get at atomic cafe. the cashiers act like its a bother to talk to you and it takes them FOREVER to make anything. they overcharge you by about 40% more than whatever your getting is actually worth. however, having said this everything i've had there has been delicous, and very natural. they have many vegetarian and organic dishes, and their smoothies are my favorite. i really just wish that they would hire someone who actually likes people for a change. read more

very overrated. hipster coffee shop for sure. the coffee and espressos are just ok (i'm a huge espresso snob - go to Trevi which is virtually next door instead). sandwiches are pretty decent. half the time the staff is ok, half the time they're pretentious, awful art school grads. drip coffee is kept in canisters for the entire day. i went here, thought the coffee was pretty good, went to trevi, came back here, and couldn't stand the coffee anymore. two starts for the sandwiches. read more

Absolutely popular with the college and high school set, the Atomic Cafe has a reputation for great food. I personally find it hard to get past the decor which is certainly retro but feels like it hasn't had a good cleaning in a long time. There seem to be a clique that hangs out here they know each other it feels like your in the middle of someone's living room. A fantastic addition to Cabot Street. The old location was fine but the new location is much better. I am a lifelong fluff fanatic, so there was no chance I was passing that up. When I went up to the counter, I was greeted by the warmest, kindest woman with the brightest smile. I told her I had just heard about the Fluff Bucket and that as a serious fluff lover I had to try it. She laughed and said she would make one for me right away. I had no idea at the time that she was the owner. I just knew she was someone who made me feel genuinely welcome in a moment when that meant more than she could possibly know. And let me tell you, the Fluff Bucket absolutely lived up to the hype. Smooth, creamy, perfectly sweet and sticky, blended with espresso, topped with fluff and mini marshmallows... it was like a dessert and a coffee had a beautiful, indulgent baby. Pure comfort in a cup. When I brought it back to the table, both of my daughters immediately said, "So you got one? You're going to love it." My younger daughter then told me that the woman I had been chatting with was actually the owner. That made the experience even more special. Her warmth, her kindness, and that simple human moment of being greeted with a smile on a difficult morning stayed with me as much as the drink itself. We ended up lingering longer than we planned. My granddaughter enjoyed a grilled cheese after her cookie, and I grabbed a bag of raspberry-filled shortbread cookies that instantly reminded me of hamantaschen around Purim. Everything felt thoughtful, comforting, and made with care. Daily Harvest Cafe was not just a place to grab coffee today. It was a place that helped turn a solemn morning into one with a few smiles, some sweetness, and a feeling of being looked after. I will absolutely be back, and I cannot recommend it enough. If you go, get the Fluff Bucket, and know that you are walking into a place run by someone who truly knows how to make people feel welcome.
