Save yourself the trip, friends! I walked in on a whim to get a quick tattoo I had been wanting; two simple words, which I wanted pretty small. Since the writing was cursive, the dude explained that the tattoo would need to be much bigger. Ok, no big deal, but because of that, I became hesitant and decided to try and change the placement (since I still really wanted the tattoo) I asked the guy to make two stencils for me so I could see how it would look on two different placements of my body and the dude flat out said no lmao because "that would waste paper" ? Is paper so expensive these days? Anyway, I thought it was flat out rude and unprofessional. I've never had an artist refuse to play around with the placement. After all, it's going on MY body forEVER so I think it's a little justifiable to want to see my options so I could be 100% sure I ended up not getting the tattoo which is a huge bummer! From my initial phone call to the shop to inquire about walk-ins to my friendly greeting at the door- Caitlyn was friendly, approachable, and communicative. Went here with my dad on Friday. Two guys were there, never told me their names. I was like "Hey I want to get a tattoo." Just to get a feel with a design idea and go from their. There was a male client sitting in the seats (I believe). So I told the two guys my idea and the one seemed like he couldn't be bothered. He kept asking what I wanted which is fine but I told him at least 10 times and patiently I told him. The other guy goes "Well are you going to help her or what?" Overall just felt super unwelcomed. My dad went here yesterday, if you want a tattoo here only get it from Mike N. Because his line work is wonderful and he's chill. Lost a good paying customer. I didn't expect a same day tattoo, I just wanted to ball park what we were going to do and maybe have some creative thinking added to my idea. I got my belly button pierced here around the end of october and it was immediately infected because I was provided with the wrong jewelry. about three weeks ago i came back to get the jewelry changed and it again immediately got really infected. I went back to ask if I could get it professionally taken out and the piercer assured me there was no need and the spray she gave me would fix it right up. Today my belly button piercing completely detached from my stomach. I am so disappointed with this place it's insane I would not recommend it for any piercings at all! read more

This place is great! We lost our daughter in March, and my husband and I wanted to do something in her honor. Neither of us have previously had a tattoo. My husband knew what he wanted, gave a picture to Chopper and requested a few edits. The revisions were spot on, and his tattoo is beautiful. I had no idea what I wanted. I gave a few ideas to Raymond Napoles ("Skorpion") and he sketched up something that is exactly what I wanted and more. It is stunning. We were there for quiet a few hours and every employee who was there was friendly and made us feel welcome. Everything was completely sanitary and safe. I came here to my nose pierced. Before arriving, two of my friends went and had tattoos done. When we walked in the door, one of the tattoo artist immediately started making comments about their fresh tattoos and how he could've done better. He really wasn't joking either. If the review was about him then it'd be a two star. But the man who pierced my nose did a good job and was pretty friendly about it, as friendly as you can be about stabbing someone in the face. Walked in at 1:30am which is apparently not an optimal time to get tattooed. The receptionist had us waiting for one artist when there were 3 other people sitting around and didn't ask anyone else if they were available so when she finally pointed to us after 10 minutes and explained we were next. The tattoo artist walked up and didn't bothering asking who was getting tattooed instead just said that it was a little late to tattoo 3 people without knowing what was being tattooed or who was getting tattooed. After being treated like our money wasn't good enough myself and two others walked down the street and got tattooed at Bay City for less money and a lot less attitude. read more

I got my belly button pierced here a few days ago. The ring is beautiful- better than I thought it would be- and I bought a cleaning solution there in the store that they suggested and it works really well. It's a sea salt spray and using it to clean it 2-3 times a day is enough for me and the skin area looks good so far. It was expensive- $75 including tip and the $10 spray- but I think that because of the good service they provided, it was worth it. Definitely the best tattoo/piercing place in Ybor. read more

Arrogant and rude! I asked if the artist could draw, based on pictures that I had, an additional detail that I wanted to add to the potential tattoo. He told me he wasn't a mindreader, which I was not asking him to be as I had pictures. It would have been pretty simple for him to do as an artist, plus I was willing to pay. He then told me it would look like the picture, but with the added detail. However, it was not as simple as he was stating as I also wanted it drawn to scale. Did not appreciate the guy talking down to me and attempting to humiliate me in front of the other customers. The audacity of me to want to see a visual of something that I am committing to be on my body for the rest of my life. How unrealistic of me to ask them to do a service that they offer. read more

Atomic tattoo at this location has literally ruined my life. I went in about 4 years ago give or take and went to get a simple quote. I wrote it out for the tattoo artist and he placed it on my upper shoulder and it was sideways. So he then had to write it out again and place it a second time. From there he proceeded to write out my tattoo. The next morning when I took off the white wrap they placed on it I then realized 2 words were misspelled. TWO WORDS WERE MISSPELLED ON MY BACK. WORDS INCLUDED "ANGEL" AND "GUARDIAN" The fact they even had an artist that couldn't spell angel is beyond me. At the time I was younger and didn't know how to go about the situation. I went back the next day heartbroken and the manger proceeded to say "shit happens" they offered a cover up after the tattoo healed. In the time being I couldn't even wear a bathing suit or tank top b/c anyone walking behind me would laugh. Truly how could someone even make that mistake. I did let them do a cover up after the fact and I've never hated something so much. For the rest of my life I now have to wear shirts the cover my right shoulder and am so insecure to even go swimming. If you're even thinking of going here THINK THE FUCK AGAIN. Also they never offered a refund which was really the very least of my concerns but just another fun fact. Should have produced leagal action. I've been going to Atomic for tattoos and jewelry since the summer and I can't say I want to go anywhere else. Everyone is always super nice and helpful and the entire experience is smooth from start to finish. Over the last few months I've been getting tattooed by Alec and he's incredible in the way he is with his customers, how he does his work and how he keeps up with the healing process. The work he's done on my thighs are all his ideas, which I love, and they are beautiful. Never hesitates to reach out when he wants to touch something up or if he has an idea for something new. I was in Ybor City for dinner on yesterday with my sister and boyfriend (Carmine's to be exact, great food). At the end of dinner I said ohhh since we are on 7th avenue I want to get a small tattoo I've been dying to get. This tattoo is very small and would take any artist all of 30 minutes to complete. When we walked out of the restaurant and down the crowded strip due to Cinco De Mayo (all the businesses on the strip were expecting an influx of business due to all the festivities). The first tattoo shop I saw was Atomic Tattoos, which made me excited since the company did my very first tattoo and piercing back in 2001 when I was 18. As I walked in to the shop with my boyfriend and sister everyone in the shop just stopped what they were doing and just quietly and awkwardly stared at us as if they had just witnessed 3 ghost walk in. I even heard one girl say to a young man who appeared to be some sort of receptionist "hey aren't you going to say something" he just sat there and avoided eye contact. After about 5 minutes of this awkward stare down a piercer finally walked over and said "I can help you if you want a piercing, but all the artist are busy". He tried his best to be nice, however still very awkward. I walked out feeling very defeated and more so hurt than anything. Now being that when I walked in and I immediately noticed there is no diversity in the shop and my sister, my boyfriend, and I are all clearly African American...I was left to believe that this was a form of discrimination due to race. They stared at us as if they had never seen brown or black people before. I do believe my brown skin tattoos just the same being that I have a total of 14 including several piercings. They let me leave that shop with no real concern about me the consumer. No one asked what I needed, no one asked if I was willing to wait for availability, no one asked if I was willing to come back and or schedule some form of appointment or session. The tattoo world I thought was supposed to be inclusive, especially because of the discrimination we already face from non-tattooed people. Needless to say my own "people" shut me out and totally chose to see my race before they saw my money and that is why I will never ever get a tattoo here ever again. I don't know if anything could ever rectify the trauma caused by this interaction. However maybe you guys should start with diversity training and explaining to your artists that all money is green and it all spends the same. I'm sure you've lost out on so much business because of this. Not only that maybe why we will never see shops like atomic Tattoos on a national platform such as the Black Ink Franchise. read more

my friend and i went in the other night on a whim to get some small simple tattoos, and it was probably the worst experience i've ever had with a tattoo artist. matilda approached us asking us what we would like done, mine being a lightning bolt and the other being 3 little butterflies. she proceeded to tell us that the butterflies were going going to have fine lines (obviously) and that "they're hard to do, but i can do it" she started on my friends design first as we filled out paperwork, and when she came back to show us what she came up with it looked nothing like what she showed her. i understand that artists usually tweak the design a bit but this didnt even resemble what she wanted. my friend told her what she did and didn't like so she fixed it and the second time she came back it was much closer to what she asked for. this is where it starts to get bad. my friend showed her where she wanted it and how she wanted it arranged and matilda just completely ignored her and did whatever she wanted to do. my friend had her remove the stencil reapply it, repeating again how and where she wanted it. once again, matilda completely ignored her, telling her any other way she would put it would look "horrible and ugly", "but whatever you want". she once again had her remove the stencil, take away one of the butterflies, so now she had only 2, which was also ugly in her eyes and would make her look chunky according to matilda. at this point we almost just walked out and said screw this bc she was so rude and would not listen at all to what my friend was saying. we finally got a decent placement after having to argue with her and replace the stencil about 4 times. this is is going on her body forever so ofc my friend is going to be picky about the placement but we had to basically fight her on where she wanted it. dont get me wrong im all about taking the artists opinion for consideration but where she wanted it was not a bad place in the slightest and its her tattoo that is going on her body!!! she finally got to it and was literally digging the needle into her skin, taking out her frustration on my friend, which was on her ribs, after we had her reapply the stencil about 4 times. she ended up leaving with 1 butterfly, and it was actually a pretty tattoo, but it looked nothing like she had asked for. i had my tattoo done by devin, and it was a really great experience. he was super nice, along with everyone else in the shop, which was why i gave a 2 star instead of a 1. we would definitely come back as long as we do not have matilda as our artist. it was by far the worst experience i have had with an artist and i didnt even get tattooed by her, and honestly she should find a different profession that doesn't require as much if any customer service bc she had absolutely none. read more

In to have a piercing fixed, and although the first woman was extremely helpful and positive, we then felt rushed out the door. We were told "I didn't want to help you" by a tall female piercer with long dirty blonde hair and a leg tattoo. My friend was forcibly grabbed by the arm after being asked to show her piercing so they could determine size, making her think she did something wrong. Then when picking out replacement jewelry, the box was placed in front of me and I was asked to pick the size. When I touched to pick up the correct piece, I was told "I can't just have you touching the jewelry," but she picked it up and bagged it with her bare hands immediately after. Overall energy was very poor with an extremely insincere apology that was counteracted by her body language the minute we walked or the door. read more

I went in to this establishment expecting to be treated with respect and to get what I wanted tattooed on my own body. Instead, I was insulted, and refused service.
