I have lived in my home for 38 years, and it was time to get new attic insulation (better late than never). Samuel arrived on time to perform the inspection and an estimate was promptly received. Having worked construction for 35 years, I got three bids. Atticare and another bidder were very close (less than $100), and I chose Atticare because of the thoroughness of their proposal. The third bidder was much lower, but with two very close bids and a lowball, I suspected that change orders were likely in store. Summary: I am giving them a 1-star review because of their terrible customer support especially to an existing customer. Details: I had Atticare help with installation of a vapor barrier in my crawlspace. They did a good job installing, but the problem is what happened a little over a year later. They should have cleaned and thoroughly sanitized the dirt prior to installation. The area I live in can cause the dirt of my crawlspace to be moist (no standing water). Coupling a vapor barrier, there were minor signs of white mold growing. Because of this, I reached out to them: 1) Asked them that I wanted them to come out and use sanitize and use Boracare. 2) It took awhile for them to get back to me and when they did, they wanted a mold report. 3) I requested a referral from them with no response. I finally found someone and paid several hundred of dollars for it which showed positive signs. 4) I forward them the report but no response with multiple pings. 5) Finally when they got back to me they were charging over $2000 for a problem that was created from them. 6) And after requesting if there were any from them to lower price I am getting no response read more

I got 3 quotes from different attic companies: . AttiCare: best price, best estimate experience. Attic Solutions: priced at market value, and a good estimate experience. AtticPros: too pricey, poor estimate experience I decided to go with AttiCare based on price and the experience I got from Francisco during the estimate. All three companies were priced within a couple hundred dollars of each other, but AttiCare offered me a significant discount. Before entering my home, Francisco put on boot covers, which was greatly appreciated. When he said he would suit up/mask up, he did so. When he was in the attic, he went around to different parts, and didn't just stick his head up there. When I asked "how much will this insulation replacement improve our energy efficiency?" Francisco gave me and honest answer and took the time to educate me about different factors that go into that question. AtticPros did not wear boot covers. When the estimator said he was going to suit up, he didn't. All he did was stick his head up in the attic hole. He did not walk around. Then he delivered a rehearsed sales pitch and wanted me to watch a YouTube video on cellulose vs fiberglass. I initially tried to do the removal myself. I had batted and blown in insulation, and removed 33 bags of insulation. That was tough and grueling work. It was a good experience, and gave me a novice perspective of the work insulation removal and install requires. The AttiCare team that came to our house made quick work. They were professional and hard working. The prepared the working areas of the house with tarp and tape. Nothing in life is perfect but Samuel More and the team under Elmer really did their best. Because all the work was in our crawlspace we need to rely on their honest work ethic. We had our electrician dismantle active knob and tube left by previous electricians. He met the 2 residual rats and with peanut butter and the traps left by Elmer, my husband caught and disposed. We will have another inspection done in a few months to verify that area was cleared of debris and visible openings plugged. Another set of eyes cant hurt. Its probable that one security alarm wire was cut or disconnected by the team. We know this is inevitable and not done on purpose. Working on an old house is not easy. From roof to drainage to all sorts of complicated fixes I recommend you get a home inspector etc to check what was or wasn't done. Atticare is a lifesaver. Upon moving into our first home, my wife and I had planned to remove all of the knob and tube wiring from our attic. When our electrician got up there we realized what a mess it was (old insulation, debris from a previous roofing job, etc) and how that would make the electric job that much harder. That's where Atticare came in--they were able to do a full attic clean-out, sanitation & seal, and blown-in insulation install ASAP all while fitting around our other electric job. (They did the clean-out waited a few weeks for us to get the electric job done and then came back to do the rest of the job). DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU HAVE A RODENT ISSUE! Get an actual rodent proofing company to do the work and eradicate the problem. Then get your insulation. We spent almost $18,00 on Atticare's services, rodent proofing being one of my biggest concerns, and our rodent issue is just as bad, if not worse. The salesperson will tell you everything under the sun to get you to sign the contract with them to do the work. They have a warranty, and they've come out to fix a few issues, but the biggest problem is they laid a vapor barrier over plain old dirt in our crawl space where the burrowing rodents BURROW RIGHT THROUGH. I have asked them to patch up the hole in the vapor barrier, and every time they say it's no big deal. Well, I've had THREE estimates from different rodent proofing companies who have all said it is absolutely absurd to place a vapor barrier over dirt, you need to pour cement down and then place the vapor barrier, otherwise the rodents will continue burrowing through. So, we have to spend another $20,000 to finally eradicate the problem. I wish we would have retained a rodent proofing company first, then the insulation. Because now, our brand new expensive insulation has also been compromised with rat/mice urine and feces because we didn't properly rodent proof/seal off all entry points, as Atticare had promised. Oh, also, the inspector gave us the price that we signed a contract on and then during the job, said he miscalculated and it will be $1,800 more and if we could please pay that, otherwise it'll get taken out of his paycheck. Well, that's a lot of money to miscalculate over especially when we're already paying almost $18k, so my husband said we would pay him half. We have since looked at every nook and cranny and they didn't do a huge portion of the insulation. Probably for this reason. Don't use this company! read more

This is a review/warning of the estimator. He came out looked around and said that I had asbestos all over the attic and would have pay extra. Please get quotes from other companies. I had MULTIPLE experts in asbestos look at it and said it was fine. They also mentioned how companies try to use your safety a scheme to get more money out of you. The estimator from Atticare said the asbestos was all over the place... all the other experts said there was none... simply not true. I hired Atticare to clean up attic / crawl space and install new insulation as well as whole house fan during covid time back in Aug 2020. Right after their service, I went down to the crawl space and found out the vents were not cover correctly as well as many rat poops around. Here is what I pointed out to Atticare: - Wilson told me all sealed in the crawl space until I pointed out the vents from outside of the house. I asked him double check and make sure no holes in crawl space. - They missed many spots in the crawl space area. Still many rat poops, especially on and behind furnace - They missed a large hole in the vent, near by the kitchen corner - They missed a large hole behind the fire space - They missed a large spot next to water heater. I pointed it out and they added mesh. They left behind poops under the mesh they installed... - Several holes in the ground in crawl space. Not sure where they lead to but must seal using foam - John from Tesco didn't wear mask in our house. Only found out when he asked for payment - Attic access board and surrounding area is dirty on paint I contacted Atticare and they dispatched someone to fix the issues. They promised me they have sealed all vents and double checked and not missed anything. I trusted his work and didn't bother go down to the crawl space to verify. The pest problem has been gone about a yr after we trapped 2 big rats, But occasionally still hear noise coming from the ceiling. We thought it just noise from squirrels running on the roof.... Fast forward to 2023. We've heard rats crawling sound from the air ducts. I went down to the crawl space and found out one of the air duct that Atticare fixed using duct tapes has been collapsed. In the same time I found out the vent that I pointed out that wasn't sealed is still not seal. I called Simon at Atticare about the unsealed vent issue. He said since it has been passed 1 yr there is nothing they would do. They did a good job on the insulation and whole house fan install. I was planning to hire them to add insulation in the crawl space and HVAC replacement. However since they are not willing to fix their mistakes, I would not hire them again. read more
