New owner. Poor quality before new owner. Overpriced. I filed a complaint with BBB and the owner had it removed. After I posted honest reviews, the owner contacted me and then stated he was willing to remove an incorrectly installed vapor barrier if I signed a contract stating I would never contact him again or post a poor review. Last response from him threatened legal action against me! Pictures I have from the company that removed the vapor barrier confirms it was not installed correctly. Response to owner's response: the evaluation of the vapor barrier was given by a licensed contractor. Two other licensed businesses have provided pictures of the vapor barrier. AtticCare completely transformed the attic of my 50 year old house. They bagged up and removed the tired old insulation, vacuumed all the dust and debris, disinfected the space, sealed air gaps - and finally - installed gorgeous thick new insulation. After living in our nice 43-year-old home for 20 years, our attic and crawlspace was invaded by roof rats. Our attic insulation was as old as the house. Trapping worked for a while, but became hopeless. I called Atticare based on the many good Yelp reviews they've gotten. Francisco did an excellent job of estimating the work we needed and explaining it to me. A week later, Wilson was very professional, as were his hardworking crew, Carlos and Victor. They arrived right on time, and they gave me a 25 minute heads-up when they were on the way, which was helpful so I could make sure everything was ready for them. They vacuumed out the old insulation, cleaned and sanitized our attic, blocked air cracks with orange foam, and blocked rat points of entry very carefully. After Wilson had me inspect their work, they blew in the new attic insulation and put new insulation sleeving on all of our heating ducts in the crawlspace, after vacuuming, sanitizing, and rat proofing. I reviewed the before-and-after photos (very nicely shot!) on Wilson's phone and was very impressed at how well he and his team had sealed up rat entry points. In the photos on Yelp of jobs done by some other attic/crawlspace companies, you can see very slipshod work that would definitely not have stopped our crafty roof rats. These guys even removed the ugly, horrible insulation from the furnace duct going to the ceiling of our garage and replaced it with the nice silver insulation they had used on the crawlspace heating ducts, an extra touch that I didn't expect and which we very much appreciated. If this review sounds too one-sided, it's because I only have good things to say about this company. I had checked their price with a builder friend before giving Atticare the job, and he said it was quite fair. I'm so relieved we won't be hearing rats in our attic for a long time to come. My Father who is a Veteran and was dying paid this company to take care of insulation as one of his final goals before he passed. Horrible workmanship and I know because I work in the trades (painter). My sister who assisted my father in hiring this company was told that they would "repair" the cut holes in the walls and they did not. It's stated in their contract that they don't fix the holes they cut, but verbally my sister was given a clear impression that they did. It was entirely misleading. The work to fix the cut holes was considerable and they dropped 7 cut out holes in the wall that I had to recreate with drywall. Their work was sloppy, lacked cleanliness and showed little to no consideration that this was not their property. The worker apparently cut an electrical wire in the wall and they had to have an electrician come to fix it. Now we have a junction box in the middle of a visible wall. We asked the electrician why he left a junction box in the middle of the wall and he said this type of fix was the only fix paid for by the company and if it was to be done right we would have to take it up with them because it would cost more money to fix it. I attempted to address my issues with them and just got a run around. It sickens me to think they took advantage of a dying man. Atticare is one of the best and honest companies I've had the pleasure of doing business with. My family recently moved into a new home and we have had a number of random jobs going on at the house. Every time someone went up in our attic space they came down with the same message - evidence of rodents, and minimal insulation. One contractor even removed a recently deceased rat from the attic. I knew it must be disgusting up there. With the summer heat we quickly realized how inefficient our home was. I dreaded the hot days because I knew our AC would barely keep our home comfortable. I wanted to do something about the attic because I knew this was an issue that was just going to get worse and I felt so gross having all that above our heads. I first received a quote from another company to remove the existing insulation, sanitize, seal possible entry points, lay new insulation and install a whole house fan and when they told me the price I knew it was not doable (over $20k). I sadly put that house project on the back burner for a bit. One day I was going through the Valpack coupons and I saw an ad for Atticare. They offered the same services as the first company I had contacted and a discount with the coupon. I figured I would give them a call to see if their prices would be any better. I was able to schedule Leo to come out and give an estimate within a few days. He came out and said the same thing that everyone else has said - that our attic needed a lot of help. He was able to break down the cost of everything per sqft (something the first company couldn't do). And they were able to schedule the work to be done the following week. At first I told him I wanted to replace our existing attic fan with a new one, but later I changed our order to installing a whole house fan instead (I highly recommend this), and Leo was able to update our estimate without any issue. We needed an electrician to come out and wire for the house fan and they scheduled that for a few days before the attic work was to be done. Super easy. The day came for the attic work and three professional, pleasant, hard working men came out, prepped the entry/hallway spaces with plastic and got to work. They did everything within a few hours, and thoroughly cleaned the spaces when they were finished. We now have a clean, rodent free, appropriately insulated attic with a house fan. All for significantly cheaper than the first quote I received. Our house is so much more comfortable on hot days and our AC finally works well to cool our home. We noticed a difference right away. Oh, and when I told Leo what the first company had quoted me he laughed and said, "someone's trying to go to the Bahamas!"
