I requested to put a camera in my Moms room, they didn't like that.. at all. My Mom was sick the week after she got there, but no one noticed she wasn't feeling well. I had been telling them all week. She was lethargic and wanted to sleep And had a horrible cough. She wasn't eating. I said to let her sleep on one evening and noooooo, an aide physically took her out of bed and put her in a wheelchair to take her to eat in the diningroom. That Sunday I told them I was taking her to the ER. They didn't want me to and said they could get her chest xray and blood there, didn't know when or how long to get results. Felt they needed to call my Brother to tell him I signed her out. My 86 yr old Mom with Dementia was admitted to the hospital where she spent 5 days. Influenza A and a UTI - No she didn't go back.

My mother in law has been there for only 6 months. Shortly after admitting her, we noticed that my mother in law was not bathed with very greasy hair, full and leaking diapers, feces on the toilet, etc. They said they were showering her but the amount of shampoo in the bottle we provided has hardly moved. Her room was a mess with feces never cleaned up (the smell was atrocious). She never had sheets on her bed, etc. We reported these issues to the director, Nathan, on 5/21/19 and as you can see from pictures taken 5/25/19, these issues were not resolved. This facility is unsafe. Just yesteday, I saw an unattended spill with a patient walking right by it. This facility is not properly staffed (1 staff for approx 20 patients after business hours). The director, Nathan, is a single point of failure for the facility and is in the wrong line of work. He should not be around the elderly and should not be the face of this facility. He has made alzheimers seem like a cake walk in comparison to how Harmony Point has treated both my mother in law and our family. My husband and I have medical power of attorney for my mother in law. Harmony Point has had their physician see my mother in law on at least 8 occasions without our knowledge and has also prescribed her 3 additional medications without our knowledge or approval. When one of these medications we did not know about was running out, Nathan called Family Protective Services on my husband and I for neglect - while we were on vacation. Yes, you read that correctly - the facility we pay $4k a month to care for my husband's mom has called FPS on us due to an RX running out that they never even had permission to give her in the first place. Nathan has outright lied to us in every conversation we have had with him and also blames the symptoms of Alzheimers on the patient and their family. They told us all the right things when we admitted her to the facility. Ever since, it has been a complete nightmare. We are moving her out of there asap and reporting to the state. This place needs to be shut down. I will write a much longer, detailed review at a later time. Update 9/23/19: hi Kate, nice to hear from you. Corporate was supposed to call us on 9/13 to follow up with next steps for my mother in law - still nothing. Just today, Jason called Nathan who told him our call with corporate would be tomorrow 9/24...which is laughable at this point. On 9/20, Nathan gave a paper full of lies about our family with a straight face. The letter also stated that you have been charging us $25/hr around the clock for a 1:1 care that we never were communicated about. I am reporting this facility for multiple issues including fraudulant charges. The only communication we have had is from us calling harmony point. Harmony point is a nightmare. Read your other reviews on here for reference and maybe do something about your main problem: Nathan. I have recordings and detailed documentation from all communications, so keep that in mind in your next response.

This place is the absolute worst. They actually had some good employees and they fired them. They did not shower him as often as they said they would. His skin was always in horrible shape. My mother and I were there every other day, sometimes more and I think that's the only reason he got the level of care that he did. They never shaved him. They were understaffed all the time. They don't pour the water to them, so that was the start of my father's decline. When I confronted the asst manager about seeing my father's medical records after his death...it miraculously took 2 hours for him to produce that. We were told by a woman we trusted that the man was in the back editing it to show he had been given all his meds. The first huge red flag was they didn't give Jim his meds the first night there and my mother and I sat in the lobby for an hour trying to get someone to help us get dad his medication. Please don't go to this place or any Spring Hill facility, they don't care about your loved one, only the bottom dollar. You will constantly have staff turnover and never any answers! Oh, and the literal nail in my father's coffin... they didn't call me when they sent him out (his final ride on EMS) to the ER. A nurse that loves Dad texted me asking how he was and I said "I don't know, you're with him". She said "no they took him out last night". I asked where and THEY HAD NO RECORD OF WHICH HOSPITAL!!! So, my father with dementia was brought in with no medical records, no nothing and had been sitting not able to breath and on a CPAP for 8 hrs alone when I was only 30 minutes away! I got there as soon as I found out. We spent the next 30 hours at his beside with him as he died from pneumonia, sepsis, and a heart attack. And we never heard from the director of the facility so much as an "I'm sorry for your loss". We were told we would get our refund in 45 days... it was 4 months later. Awful humans.

The proposed solution was to hire private-pay nursing, around the clock, which increased care costs tremendously! Moving into Poet's Walk brought about an immediate improvement! The medical team is alert and engaged. Within days, a speech therapist identified swallowing problems and made recommendations to modify her diet. Physical therapists identified diminished core strength and adjusted her care plan accordingly. The nursing team is alert and engaged, bringing us peace and lifting tremendous worry! Gibran Chambers is a "hands-on" Executive Director and he can be seen interacting with both residents and staff throughout the facility! Marvin Smith, Lauren Urbanek, and Kelsey Lang are the reasons we selected Poet's Walk--they responded correctly to the myriad of questions we asked. Further, they went above-and-beyond, working long hours to insure a comfortable and joyful transition between facilities. We can't say enough good things about our experience!

She goes to Mahjong, exercise classes, live music and recitals, plus a lively happy hour each Friday. Most of the folks there are so vibrant, coming from all over the US and different countries. They also have "armchair astronomy" classes and various lectures. The staff are caring, pleasant, and helpful. Dawn and Ralph, the managers, do a great job. I'm so glad we found this place. Mom was hesitant to go live there and she recently told me how much better her life is now that she's with other people.

He was also recovering from a broken hip and was using a walker. Aria had the safest facilities for my father to move around. The common areas have wood floors and less clutter than other communities. I felt my father was safe. My father enjoyed being able to enjoy the out side on his own with access to their courtyard. Not all communities are set up where your loved ones can enjoy outdoors when they want to. The Facility Manager was very helpful in helping set up my fathers room as well as hanging pictures. Since my father was an engineer, the Facilities Manager took the time to have many great conversations with my father. It is great that Aria is dedicated to Memory Care. They know how to take care of all levels. The separation of cognitive and non cognitive guests is priceless. My father was able to have conversations with other guests with similar challenges. Having a loved one in a home is all ways difficult but when you arrive at Aria you really do not feel you are in a nursing home. It helped me when I was visiting my father. Last but not least the Executive Director Ceri Mackenzie is there for you and your loved ones 24 hours. I have seen this first hand. She was there for helping me manage my fathers needs. Her experience and knowledge comes in handy as anything can happen any time when you are taking care of our elders. The team reacts positively to Ceri's experience and enthusiasm. To sum it up, Aria is a gem in senior community. It offers clean, safe, easy to navigate common area floor plan, spacious individual units and a lovely courtyard to enhance for my father's daily experience. Mostly importantly, the team members are friendly, caring and do not hesitate to come to aide whenever the unexpected need rises. My father actually thrived and showed improvement in matter of weeks under their care. . I have had other family members in Brookdale, Sunrise and, and Emeritus. My Dad has only been there 2 months but I still feel very confident I have made the right decision with Aria. Ceri Mackenzie is the medical director and she is very patient with the family and also with our Dad. She is knowledgeable and shares that knowledge to make us more comfortable with the transition. The nursing staff and aides have all been very friendly to Dad - especially Kristin, Melissa, Brandon and Jeannette - but they have all been wonderful.

The…read moreMonarch at Cedar Park severely shortchanged the memory care residents after a corporate takeover of the previous Poet's Walk facility by Agewell Solvere. A million-dollar+ investment renovated the building into two sections: the much larger amenities-rich assisted living section (same number of bedrooms as MC), with many community spaces, for assisted living residents. Don't be blinded by fancy artwork! If you tour, note that the MC section lacks basic community amenities, such as a living room, in stark contrast to assisted living's multiple spaces for sitting comfortably, a movie theater, and an art room. MC residents are forced to sit on straight-back chairs in a classroom-type "activity" room all day long; not a recliner to be seen. I recall a new resident asking me, "Where is the living room?" There isn't one! The lack of a warm, homelike atmosphere was only one of the reasons I moved my husband to a better facility. My concerns, expressed to regional management were coldly rejected, as were those of other family members regarding staff shortages and turnover, caregiver no-shows, inadequate training, very poor morale, high stress, low work ethic, and poor care/resident neglect as a result. I will add that there are several excellent caregivers still there since my husband moved into the original Poet's Walk 3 years ago; but only 2 of the original caregivers remain from those I met on Day 1. A revolving door of caregivers and management seems the norm. Some of the MC residents at this Monarch must be monitored very closely due to the severity of their condition; yet Monarch continues to reduce caregiver hours! I've seen MC residents left alone in the activity room (their only place to gather) while caregivers were helping residents in their bedrooms. The scarcity of MC-appropriate activities is another problem. I have witnessed MC residents' aggression, fights, and seen evidence of injuries, falls, and heavy bruising. A few times, an MC resident "eloped" from the site and had to be tracked down several streets away. Something is seriously wrong with how AgeWell Solvere runs this business. Consequently, others and I moved our loved ones from Monarch last fall to better facilities with higher staffing levels and a more comfortable living environment. Others have left Monarch since, or plan to, including assisted living residents... symptomatic of ongoing problems that Corporate appears to ignore. Yet prices continue to increase, sometimes without warning.

I toured several assisted living communities in the northern suburbs of Austin while Mom was living in an independent living community and had chosen The Isle as the best fit for her when she needed more assistance, but it has turned out to be even better than I anticipated! Mom made the transition to assisted living after being hospitalized for influenza; she was very weak and not really "herself" (and I was super stressed!) when we moved her in. The kindness we both received from EVERYONE at The Isle has been incredible! Just to name a few... The Directory of Health Services, Arica, helped me set Mom up with a PCP who is excellent and who visits The Isle weekly. Arica and her staff not only immediately coordinated administration of all my mom's medications/treatments (including supplemental oxygen and nebulized medications), Arica also knows all the specifics of my mom's medical situation off the top of her head when I call her (she must have an amazing memory!). It really makes me feel confident that, during a medically complex time, my mom is getting great care. The entire therapy staff (physical, occupational, speech; Select Rehabilitation) at The Isle is phenomenal! My mom has been receiving daily therapy as her time in the hospital weakened her, so she needs a wheelchair now. I have every confidence that she won't need it for long with Mei, Dwayne, Amy and Ashley working with her! These guys already know (and treat) Mom as a person that they value, and they are working hard to help her get better! The caregivers at The Isle (shout out to Darla, Diane, Ali and Casey) have also been so kind to my mom! She was really scared when she moved in - in addition to being moved from the ER to hospital to in-patient rehab before landing at The Isle - she's dealing with 24/7 oxygen use and the wheelchair. She also was living independently before, so needing to rely on people she just met for pretty much everything was very new. I am so grateful to these women for their care! There are so many more people at The Isle that deserve mention - Megan for being so supportive to me (because it is a pretty stressful time when you are responsible for the care of your ill, elderly parent); Ruth for arranging a packed schedule of daily activities that my mom absolutely LOVES; Jacque (who is a nurse in addition to being the Ex Director) for being so open in her communication and inspiring confidence in her team; Andrew, who is so helpful and friendly and who knows where everything is; and Rose, who, just today, drove my mom (in her wheelchair) in a bus to a doctor's appointment and made me so grateful I didn't have to work out transferring her from the wheelchair to my car and back. When you tour assisted living facilities, to be honest, it really isn't your favorite day. But, I really felt like "the vibe" was good at The Isle and I decided, almost a year ago now, to trust them with caring for my mom when the time came that she needed it. Well, the time came this December on the heels of the flu, and I could not be more glad that I made the choice I did!

The excuse given was the pandemic. The food was poor quality and residents frequently waited 30-45 to get waited on because there was not adequate wait staff. The tables are so crowded together (because the Enclave couldn't or wouldn't hire enough wait staff to open the other dining room) that it was dangerous for residents using walkers or scooters to navigate between them. Thank goodness my mom did not need any assistance in her apartment. She was mobile and able to take her own medications. There was CONSTANT turnover in all areas including management. We gave 30 day notice, moved Mom to Brookdale (wonderful!)in June and now are fighting for the 1/2 month refund we are due. The incompetence at this facility is truly unbelievable. Don't move your loved one here!

Six months later, they notified us that rent was going up 14%. This is the Austin market -- rent increases are a fact of life! But when your entire demographic is on a fixed income, raising the rent at all six months in, much less by more than ten percent, suggests a certain disregard for the types of decisions that families make for eldercare. Nobody ever likes rent increases and we've always been accustomed to getting one each year in previous facilities. But as the Enclave collects a tidy 'community fee' of $2,500 when you move in, they have incentive to turn rooms over. I quote the outgoing director: "While I hope (your dad) will be able to stay here, I certainly understand if a change is needed based on finances." In other words: We'd like somebody else's community fee. A shame, because the people on the ground doing the work are good and the facility charges otherwise pretty reasonable rates. It'd just be nice if they stuck to them for more than six months.

The environment far surpasses other options. It is a spacious house with personalized rooms, low resident-to-staff ratio, and customized meals. The staff are always friendly, helpful and attentive. The owner Terri and manager Haley have always gone the extra mile to answer questions, assist with paperwork, and coordinate care with visiting health care providers. The residents have also been regularly entertained by musicians. Our mom has especially enjoyed the classical guitarist. It may cost a little more than your average care facility, but it is well worth every penny!

We also had the chance to observe the owner, Terri, interacting with the residents, and it was immediately clear how much she genuinely cares for them. She knew their names, their favorite music, their past careers, and what makes them smile. Terri didn't just speak with them--she connected with them as friends. The fact that she takes the time to bring in a variety of performers shows just how dedicated she is to helping the residents continue to enjoy and engage with life!
