Nonetheless, was very impressed that my glass of water never made it below half way mark. Food wise, great appetizers. The wings were flavorful (loved the use of Gochujang sauce). The salads are ok. The only reason for the lower score was because of the entrees. Sadly, everything lacked much flavor and was bland. It's hard to give a higher rating if you think you can make the food better at home. There's definitely potential for this place to be great. Not sure I will return for the entrees. My wife and I had frequented this location when it was Small batch. We decided to give it a try now that it has opened up as Aubrey. The location in Midtown is great if you want to stop in before a show. It isn't a large restaurant, but the style of the older building works for me. When we were there we were seated on the upper level. I wouldn't want to be the servers bringing the food up those stairs, but they pulled it off. Our waiter was attentive and very pleasant. We had our food order in quickly and the food all come out in short order. My wife tried a couple cocktails and liked all of them. Our food was delicious. I got a pork chop and my wife got mussels. Heard about @Aubrey from a random Instagram reel. Figured it would be a chance to leave our #WebsterBubble and visit a new spot... Here's the thing that most restaurant patrons don't consider - starting a new business is a bitch. The odds of a new restaurant staying in business for 5 years is like less than 10%. So, when me and #MyBoo get a chance to dine at a new spot in St Louis, we like to learn about the "why" of the restaurant and on our first visit to Aubrey, that's exactly what happened! Trey was our waiter and he made us feel special through the entire dining experience. He also introduced us to one of the main owners, Spencer, who was busy playing multiple roles the entire night! We got the sense from the time we sat down that Aubrey is a "labor of love." And all this was occurring before we took a bite of food Now, let's talk about the food! Mussels to start. In one word - Boom they were delish with our cocktails to start. The toast with the dish was perfecto The House salad followed. Perfectly dressed. Simple and light to not overwhelm. Next up, entrées. #MyBoo got the bolognese and I got the sea bass . To pair those dishes with a vino, I chose an Italian Amarone The mains were light, flavor-packed and ridiculously balanced. The pasta didn't overwhelm with the sauce and the sea bass didn't wilt into the background of the Amarone's boldness. We hit the jackpot on our food/wine pairing for sure! The buzz surrounding this place drew me in to celebrate a very special friend's birthday. Based on the hype, I left disappointed. First, the space is attractive, but it is loud. Not energetic loud. Lean-across-the-table-all-night-to-hear-your-company loud. I also didn't find that the atmosphere transported me to another city, as some reviews have suggested. We ordered the same cocktail three different times throughout the evening. The first two were lovely, but the third somehow lost its balance and wasn't nearly as good. I didn't even finish it. The whipped feta, which seems to appear in every photo, is tasty, and my sea bass was perfectly cooked. In fact, I'd say the preparation of that fish was expert level and easily the strongest note of the night. The Bolognese was just fine. You can absolutely tell the pasta is made in house, which I appreciate, but while the first few bites were pleasant, the dish finished a bit flat. It felt like it needed a touch more salt or another layer of seasoning. The complimentary strawberry ice cream served for my friend's birthday was both delicious and appreciated. Service was thoughtful and attentive throughout the evening. The restroom experience was a surprise, and not in a good way. You have to leave the restaurant and take an elevator down to a basement level where the aesthetics, overall experience, and even the smell felt completely disconnected from the dining room upstairs. The food wasn't bad. It just wasn't memorable. There wasn't a single bite that made me eager to come back. Initially, I appreciated the tight, focused menu because that often signals a kitchen that executes everything exceptionally well. I'm always a little skeptical of menus that run for pages because it's difficult to do that many things right. Aubrey delivered a perfectly competent meal. Trendy, new restaurant in midtown with inventive cocktail selection. The place was busy when we came for a Friday night dinner. I made reservations 2 weeks ahead of time. We were seated by the hostess station, close to the entrance at a high top so I was able to look around and noted that they have some dining tables on the second floor as well. We started with some cocktails. I had the green room (pisco, elderflower, cucumber and lime cordial, prosecco, and mint) which I was told was their version of a spritz. It was very refreshing and delicious. My husband had the pleasure to meet you (buffalo trace bourbon, blackberry, lemon, maple syrup, ginger beer). He enjoyed his cocktail. We started with the whipped feta dip with charred leaks, almonds and olive oil. It was a very good flavor combination, large serving portion for 2 people. My husband had the burger which was served with fries for his entree and I ordered the sea bass which came with quinoa, asparagus, red pepper coulis, fried capers and drizzle of herb oil. Everything was great, the fish was prepared well and not overcooked but honestly, I was not a fan of the red pepper coulis over my fish. Just my opinion. After we finished our food, I asked what they had for dessert but was told they only had basque cheesecake. I passed. I really wasn't feeling the cheesecake since I just had some and made some more recently. I wish they had other options. The menu overall is slightly limited but I think it works for them. Service was excellent. The wait time was minimal between orders and drinks and our waiter checked on us fairly regularly to make sure we were doing well. I would say this place warrants more visits in the future. And if you're looking for a fancier night out in midtown, this would definitely fit the bill. Check it out! read more

Great experience at the Aubrey! The menu was is short but well done. I was also impressed with service (by Clint and team) and cocktails. My husband got a reservation at 5pm on a Friday before we went to Circus Flora. When we arrived the place was not very busy but it soon filled up within an hour so I'd recommend a reservation. We ordered the mussels and wings to start. Both had a nice flavor -- the mussels came with some nice bread to sop up the deviously borra and wings were very well cooked with a nice Korean style sauce, I loved the ranch like dipping sauce it came with, I could have a cup of that. Then we each got a salad -- one Caesar and one house. For me house was best, it came with an AMAZING homemade lemon vinaigrette. For entrees we got sea bass and burger. We were able to swap up burger fries for asparagus and green beans. Burger was made of wagyu and was very high quality and delicious. Sea bass for me lacked flavor and probably my least favorite dish. We finished with the cheesecake for two which was excellent, light but creamy, not too sweet. Drinks: We had green room (probably our favorite, super refreshing, fresh taste and perfect for summer), Old Money (waiter described as gin old fashioned very nice and fresh was well), Deliah Behind the Bar (very balanced mai tai type drink) and Studio 54. Very nice ambience, we sat up stairs and had a nice view of the whole restraint. Felt upscale but not pretentious. Hope to return as they change up their menu for the seasons Id love to come back. Overall, my first impression of Aubrey was positive. We went on a Saturday and it was fairly crowded, but we had a reservation and were seated upstairs in the balcony section. We ordered several small plates rather than entrées, and everything we tried was good. The cocktails were enjoyable as well. We had the Shrimp Diavolo, made with shrimp, pomodoro sauce, garlic, red wine, and fresh herbs; the Whipped Feta Dip with charred leeks, almonds, and olive oil; the Moules à la Marinière, with mussels in a white wine, lemon, butter, and herb broth; and the House Salad with spring mix, red onion, artichokes, cherry tomatoes, goat cheese, and vinaigrette. We were excited to dine in at Aubrey during opening week! The interior is nice and intimate (bathroom is downstairs in kind of a creepy dark hallway). We had wonderful service and food came out in a timely manner (I think our entrees came out some time after we finished our apps, but uncertain if it was due to us taking some time on our apps, we could have asked for entrees to come out at same time). We thought our meal was beautifully presented. I felt the entrees were ok for me (pork chop may have been a bit dry and sea bass entree overall was bland); flavors did not wow, but it was not bad. It's truly painful to give this review but here's why.... We made an 8:30 reservation for the dining room. We got there on time and then the hostess said they technically didn't have a table available but asked if we could sit at the bar. We noticed there was an open two-top and asked if we could grab that and she said, yes. Now, after we were sat, it took quite some time for someone to come to our table, acknowledge us, or even give us water. Eventually Michael came, but after that he was gone for a long time. In fact, he was gone for so long, another server came and took our order. After that fiasco, Michael apologized and gave us two glasses of champagne on the house. While we realize this was done as a courtesy, we tried explaining to him that we already put in our drink order with a different server. He kept insisting it was on the house and was speaking to us as if we couldn't refuse. I'm trying to say his tone was a bit more hostile than it should have been and neither I nor my boyfriend have ever been spoken to like that. In a weird twist of events, we got the glasses of champagne BEFORE our regular drinks AND our food. The latter trickled down later, but we def could have used the food first. I got the PM shift which came with a small glass of prosecco. The server compared it to a pornstar martini and suffice it to say, it didn't disappoint . The salads were good but def needed more dressing, especially since they were split in two. I loved the croutons but my portion of the salad was lacking in dressing. I'm surprised they didn't put it in a bowl since it was spilling off my plate. As for the entrees, there were two people who came after us who coincidentally ordered the same thing but they got their food before us. It had been a while since we finished our salads, so needless to say we were disappointed when we saw what we thought was our food go to someone else. When ours came, it was piping hot (which isn't a a bad thing) but we had to let it cool down a bit before we could dive in. Both of us liked our dishes and that was the highlight of the evening. I don't usually order rigatoni, but the ragu was excellent with the herbs and spices. Eventually the chef came out and introduced himself but the damage was already done. While we both understand it was their opening night, they can def improve when it comes to service. We know the kinks are being worked out but I would think they'd know better than to abandon a table. We plan on coming back, but it'll be after the dust has settled. read more

I had the Green Room and Studio 54 cocktails. Both were balanced and excellent, though the Green Room was my favorite. The wings were juicy, flavorful, and a solid portion. The mussels had a great light sauce, but like always with mussels, there just was not enough bread. The Caesar salad was good, but it really needed anchovies. The restaurant has only been open for a few days so I can't really give it a full review. Their menu thus far doesn't have a lot of options but I like that because they can perfect the menu. Incredible. Went opening weekend and we were so pleased. We've checked out several other restaurants right when they open and it's usually a bumpy ride... not at Aubrey. Cocktails were fantastic... my wife and I split three of them, but I forget what they were. We started with the feta dip and a Caesar salad both were exceptional. Caesar had the perfect amount of dressing. I went with the steak and it was Australian Wagyu. I didn't even need a steak knife and it was cooked perfectly. The steak was served over mashed potatoes and asparagus. My wife got the bolognese and she wished that she would have ordered the steak... the bolognese was great, but the steak was a show stopper. Went here during opening week with a group of friends and we were honestly blown away. From the second we walked in, the staff made us feel so welcomed and taken care of. Our server, Angela, was incredibly personable, attentive, and genuinely so nice (she had a cool tie too). The hostess was just as warm and friendly. The food was an absolute 10/10, every single dish came out at the perfect temperature and was packed with flavor. The whipped feta dip will genuinely be in my dreams it was so good. Everyone in my group loved their meal. You can really tell they care about the quality of each dish. The owners even came around to check on tables and make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. It can get a little noisy when busy, but we didn't mind at all -- we could still easily have a conversation. Really beautiful bar. Food: We ordered the shrimp app (highly recommend). It had a little kick, but even I could handle the spice level. My husband ordered the pork chop and I had the Caesar salad for my entrée. Both were good! This restaurant is new and fresh and very chic. we loved our starters of Whipped Feta and Wings. my personal entree was the Waygu Tenderloin also quite good. My friend had the Seabass which was fabulous and my other friend had the burger which was very meh.....we enjoyed our server Trey I believe and we very much enjoyed the first 40 minutes...then everything seemed to fall apart. as the restaurant filled up it was obvious they were understaffed with servers......they seemed to have a lot of bussers and runners but I think the servers were overwhelmed by too many tables requiring a lot of talking and explaining. and by the time we had our entrees the voyage from dessert to check took literally forever and we were inundated with all employees except who we wanted...the man with the bill so we could pay and split. kinda frustrating as our table was crumbed like we were at the Ritz and and the water pitcher angels had to be told no thanks we're all good on water...take note restauranteur ! this is unnecessary and bad when ur clamoring to exit.. come up with a system please. our fantastic dinner came to a bitter end.....and to my fellow diners... be prepared for the horror movie basement bathroom. anyway we will come back for the food.. maybe during the week which won't be quite as busy read more
