My fiancé needed a same-day appointment before Friday, and as a brand-new patient, I honestly wasn't expecting much in terms of availability--especially on such short notice. This was actually the fourth office I had called, and by that point I was preparing myself to keep searching. From the moment Geneve answered the phone, though, everything changed. She was incredibly knowledgeable, well-spoken, personable, and genuinely kind. Our conversation felt less like I was speaking to someone at a medical office and more like I was talking to a friend I'd known for years. She even laughed with me while I jokingly vented about my fiancé's habit of waiting until the last minute to schedule appointments! Although the only appointment initially available was later in the afternoon--which wasn't ideal since my fiancé works third shift and needs his sleep--Geneve never made me feel like I was asking for too much. She simply said she'd verify his insurance information and promised to call me back if anything changed. I barely had time to consider calling another office before my phone rang again. She had already confirmed his insurance, and while we were talking, one of her coworkers mentioned that an earlier appointment had just opened due to a cancellation. Calling at 8:06 in the morning and being greeted with that level of warmth, patience, and enthusiasm truly made my day. Although I wasn't the patient, my fiancé had nothing but wonderful things to say about his visit. He mentioned how beautiful the office was and how thorough everyone was throughout his appointment. Since it had been well over 20 years since his last eye exam, he was pleasantly surprised by how comprehensive everything was. Even the dreaded air test for glaucoma, which I usually hate, was quick and painless. I didn't want to make the drive to my eye doctor in OC so I contacted this office and they were able to squeeze me in the same day. Thank you so much!! The staff was friendly, patient and professional. I have PPO insurance so I was able to go with whomever so that helped. In keeping with the friendly and approachable theme - Doctor Florister was also very friendly, patient and professional. And quite funny. She was a bit alarmed that I had rinsed off the top layer of my eye but reassured me that the eye will heal itself in a day or two if I stopped rinsing. The moral of the story I learned is that if something gets caught in your eyes- just rinse continuously for the first 15 minutes and then stop - whatever is in there would come out by then if not then no amount of continued rinsing would help. Don't be an idiot like me and rinse every two hours ! ‍‍ My eyes are back to normal now with the use of eye ointment and gel drops. No prescription medication needed and not antibiotics because she didn't think it was infected. Overall I was very happy with my experience with Eye Care Riviera and highly recommend it! Cheers!

I wasn't aware that a contact visit was separate because my eye doctor in CT always did both at my yearly visit. When I came in I had my eye exam and ordered my box of contacts. Then I came back in March for my regular yearly exam. Before I came in I received many messages telling me to wear my contacts at the visit. I thought why should I? I already had my eyes checked for contacts. When Alexander came in the exam room there were no pleasantries and she just immediately sat down and started asking me how my vision was and she put the letters on the wall. She changed the letters and each time I could not see them at all. I immediately panicked because I couldn't see anything and she had flipped the letters many times. I thought I drove here and could see fine and I was sitting in the lobby reading on my phone just fine. I didn't know what was wrong with me that I couldn't see. When I asked questions, but she didn't answer she just kept on with her test. When she was done she said I had a different prescription in both eyes and that I would need two new different boxes of contacts. She had me take out my new contacts I had just worn to the office and throw them away. I refused to do that so she gave me a case to put them in and I put her contacts in she was prescribing me. I told her they were uncomfortable. She wanted me to try them for a few days and let her know as soon as possible if I liked them so I could bring my other prescription contacts in. She then took me out to the front to place an order with the tech. Mean while as I'm trying to keep up with her I'm thinking wait a minute when am I going to be checked for glasses? I wanted to use my insurance for glasses. I tried to ask her but she went back in the technician office and she said she would be back. I hoped then I would get a chance to say I want to use my insurance for my new prescription for lenses. I didn't even want to change my frames because she doesn't have a good selection or very many choices of glasses for women. The glasses selection cater more to men. The tech came out and I asked her if the doctor was coming out and she told me no and that she was seeing her next patient. Alexander told me she would be right back. The tech started talking to me about the contacts and placing my order. I was very confused and frustrated and I told the tech I feel very scammed. I told her I had just come in the office and had my eyes checked in December how is it my eyes dramatically changed in a few months and now I'm going to need two new boxes(a different prescription for each eye), which is going to cost me even more money and these are not the same brand and they probably cost more because they were a contact that dealt with stigmatism and bifocals. I told the tech I didn't come in to have my eyes check for contacts. She said well it's because it says in your records that I complained that I should have had my eyes checked for contacts during my yearly visit. I had that conversation on the phone with the receptionist and she explained that they are separate visits. I understood once she explained it but clearly I was being punished and scammed at my yearly visit. I told the tech right then that I felt scammed and that I didn't want to order the new contacts and that I would stay with the contacts that I just received in January. I was happy with them and I wanted to use my insurance for new lenses in my present frames. The tech said she would report my feeling scammed and how I was treated by Alexander to the office manager. I thought to myself what for? She works for her what is she going to do. Once I got my glasses I requested my records so I could go else where. The receptionist told me that she would let Alexander know. I said ok but why can't I just come in and pick up my records. She told me that Alexander needed to look over them and clean them up. I found that very suspicious. Why do they need to be cleaned up. I asked for the last 3 visits and it took 5 days to get them. I went in and picked them up and left. When I got home I looked at them and saw that my December visit was not included. I went back the next business day and requested my records for that visit. They then had to get permission. I told them I wanted the records for the visit but they asked me did I want my contact prescription. I said well yes I want that included but that I wanted all the information on that visit like what I had been given for my other visits and I showed them the records that I had been given. After they talked to Alexander I was only given my contact prescription and not the test records of that visit broken down. How convenient that I wasn't given those records to compare my December visit with my March visit. Very Calculating!

The girl on the phone checked my insurance and said none. After the appt I find out there is a $25 copay and $65 contact lense fitting fee. Plus the dr handed me off to another gal who was the equivalent of a car salesperson. They tried to hard sell me on frames and lenses. I know what I paid for lenses at Costco and had already planned on keeping my frames so she had to admit that Costco would be the better option (she quoted me over $250 for just lenses!). At the end of the day I could have gone to Costco for the exam and it would have cost me the same out of pocket and I wouldn't have to make the extra trip to get my lenses refit. That being said, the Dr was professional and thorough. Just don't get suckered into the hard sell. Update: spoke to Dr Hokama and my insurance which cleared up the $25 over charge. The Dr apologized for the aggressive hard sell which was nice. I'd still return regardless because the exam was great.
