Bottom Line First - do your research people, make an informed decision on buying a service contract (which is what these are). I was presented an offer for an AUL "service contract" today when I bought a 2015 used car. I read over the eight-page brochure and decided AGAINST purchasing AUL's service contract. This is a review of the AUL's "sales pitch" to pay $2,900 for its (best) service contract. This is NOT a review of AUL's performance on a claims made under its contract. Backstory: I have years of experience with service contracts, back from the days when it was called an extended warranty, or insurance. NOT A WARRANTY: Because these contracts are NOT a manufacturer's warranty, California long ago prohibited these contracts being represented as a "warranty." This is because these contracts are NOT an extension of a manufacturer's warranty. The only true manufacturer's warranty is that offered by the manufacturer when you buy a new car at the dealership, e.g., Nissan, Honda, Toyota. NOT INSURANCE: AFAIK none of these contracts are insurance. Generally, insurance is where you protect against accidents or casualties. Since these service contracts do not insure your car against mechanical damage caused by an accident or flood, for example, calling service contracts "insurance" is outlawed. NOT "CERTIFIED PREOWNED" (CPO) Coverage: I have had CPO cars. CPO is now a term of art in used car sales. It means the car manufacturer/dealership is selling you a USED car where the manufacturer is extending the original vehicle warranty for the number of years specified in the used car contract. Note: You pay a higher price for a CPO car but you get the comfort of an ironclad manufacturer extended warranty. SO WHAT ARE THESE: Most states that regulate these contracts consider them "service contracts." For a sum of money paid the company agrees to provide the services listed in the contract, and MOST IMPORTANT to DENY claims pursuant to the contract's exclusions. Buyer Beware: The (flashy) sales brochure is NOT the service contract. The CONTRACT is the small print, complex language document the salesman presents to you for signature. Indeed, the AUL brochure says "These are general coverage descriptions. Please refer to the service contract for complete terms and provisions." Bottom Line: Consumer Reports (I'm a subscriber) has rarely recommended purchase of (expensive) service contracts. The trouble with them, and I agree, is the contract's EXCLUSIONS (things that are not covered). Exclusionary language gives the service contract company company a lot of wiggle room on interpretation, i.e., terms worded in a manner to DENY claims made. P.S. I do recall a few friends over the past 30 years who have purchased service contracts and thousand dollar or three in claims were paid. That seems a ringing endorsement, but today I read the brochure's technical language, exclusions, and what was covered. I didn't understand most of what it said, so I passed on purchasing the contract. P.P.S. In December 2018 AUL's prices were from by 12 to 60 months. My transmission quit all together on my 06 Dodge Dakota right in the middle of traffic. UGH! I used my car insurance to have the truck towed to Larry H. Miller at 222 Auto Drive. I spoke to the Service Mgr. and asked him for his "opinion" on what might be wrong? He refused to give me his opinion saying, "we have to tear it down first to see." I said, "but you're the SM, surely you could give me a ball park idea of what might be causing it to jump violently while accelerating?" He refused. I then said, "ok, how much to tear apart to check?" He said "$1,200." I couldn't believe it. I said "how is your answer any different than if I were to have asked a stranger "what's wrong with my transmission?" The stranger would say, "I don't have any idea, I'll have to tear it down first to see." "SO" I said, "you're going to charge me $1,200 to tear it down only to tell me that I need a new transmission ($3,500) for a total of $4,700?!! So I called Aamco at 34th & State Street in Boise. I had the truck towed there. Brady is the Manager there. I've never been treated with such courtesy and competence in my adult life! Brady didn't have room on the small lot for my truck but made an extra effort to get my truck on his lot. Luckily, I had purchased an extended warranty through AUL Service Contracts and when I read it I happily found out that it would pay up to $3,000.00. I called AUL and the woman I spoke to was very kind and clear about her answers to my questions. She told me to take the truck to Aamco at 34th & State Street in Boise and said that AUL has had good luck with them. I had the truck towed to Aamco at 34th & State in Boise. I met Brady the Manager. He was very courteous and confident. I asked Brady what the problem was and this time he said, "I need to tear it down to see, but I will include the cost of teardown in the bill to rebuild if it needs to be rebuilt." For a complete teardown and reinstallation Brady said he could do it for $3,200!!!! I gladly paid the extra $200 and am thankful to AUL for their recommendation. NOW THAT'S HONESTY AND I COULN'T SAY ANYTHING BETTER ABOUT THEM! Aamco rebuilt the transmission and worked with AUL to get the money from AUL! BRADY THE MANAGER, is knowledgeable and honest as the day is long. I will never take my vehicles anywhere else! I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE WITHOUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM AUL! read more

GREAT company for extended car warranty service! The company very cooperative with car service facility and conducted pretty quick evaluations and approval of the work to be done. All in all, I was pleased to see that such a large and costly job was covered and my mini is back on the road again! In addition, I did have to rent a car for a few days, so I wanted to ensure that I would get reimbursed by AUL. I called their Customer Service Division in Napa on August 2, 2017, and spoke with a very helpful and personable representative by the name of Jenny. She provided me with update on my car and it covered amount. She helped to allay any of my concerns with out of pocket expense. Jenny also understood exactly what my dilemma was regarding the rental policy and provided me with the proper division in order for me to email and provide them with the information for getting reimbursed. Overall, It was worthwhile purchasing the Estate extended warranty almost three years ago, because when I finally needed to use them they came through in approving most everything that my car needed. And the quality work and materials wasn't inexpensive, so Kudos to AUL for honoring the extended service contract and for having Representatives such as Jenny to help customers with any of their concerns. I know that her team with also be processing my reimbursement of the car rental, so I thank them in advance and appreciate the top notch service all around! Just wanted to share my positive money saving experience with Leo @ AUL  I had my engine light come on, and figured our local shop that handles emissions testing for our state would be reputable for the repair.. After 2 days of my car sitting in the shop and finally a $1,000 quote on a new solenoid and some accompanying parts I asked to use my AUL Warranty for help paying for the repair.. After talking with the shop owner, Leo (AUL Associate) contacted me and made a Judgment call on the quote & repair suggested. She said she'd assist in moving my vehicle to another Facility, and I decided to use another mechanic... After observing the computer code, my mechanic said it was a simple $250 Sensor and the car would pass emissions without a problem and the car should run like new.. I paid cash and saved over $750 and having to use the warranty for the Sensor towards my allotted repair amount given by AUL My wife and I are VERY happy with the service given by AUL, and the level of service from beginning to end has been seamless. I would recommend buying an Extended Warranty for any used car. I was the third owner of a 2013 Dodge Caravan, the first owner right off the assembly line was Hertz Rental Car put in service April 30, 2013, the second owner in Arkansas registered it March 20, 2015 and it was repossessed, I purchased it January 12, 2016 with 76,636 miles on it. From the start AUL knew it was going back to being used as a commercial vehicle and they had the option to cancel the contract - THEY DIDN'T. Fast forward to June 28, 2016 just shy of 6 months having the vehicle I began hearing lifer noise on the engine, I took it back to the dealer I purchased it from according to the contract on July 6, 2016. Got a call the following day telling me AUL had authorized it to be taken to a Dodge Dealership for repair, so I did that afternoon. The next day July 7, 2016 AUL tells me the dealer said the camshafts were scorched (burnt), AUL contends the oild wasn't changed properly, although Jiffy Lube was the licensed shop the changed the oil each and every time. Thanks to AUL Corp., I had to shell out $1,863.32 for repairs they authorized and lost over $3,500.00 in business income for the week it was in the shop for a two day repair. In dealing with AUL customer service and the adjusters worse in the industry. We're heading to court for fraud, breach of contract and violations of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.. read more

I have never personally spoken to these guys, but my second hand experience with dealing with them has always been very positive. I've had several things break on my Honda Accord, and they have always agreed to pay for every one of them without any work on my part. Technically, you are supposed to bring the automobile to the dealer that sold the warranty. Unfortunately, that dealer has a one or two week backlog and it is tough getting the car there. If there is something wrong, I really don't want to spend the next week or two driving with a broken car. In addition, when you're in another shop it is a royal pain to take it to the other dealer. So I often have a different mechanic look and fix the car. Every single time that the mechanic has called AUL to see if the repairs were approved, AUL has waived the requirement to go to dealer that sold the warranty and approved the repairs. They didn't have to do that, a lesser company would have been jerks and denied the claim since I wasn't at the 'correct' dealer, but AUL shows that they are a class act extended warranty company. read more

I just spoke with a lovely young lady named Karina on the AUL Customer Service line and she is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! I had a number of questions about what my service contract benefits and she was Genuinely patient, even before I had to mention about my learning and 'chick' limitations because I needed a couple of extra moments to gather my questions and understanding correctly. What a truly refreshing and gracious opportunity for me! She didn't have a roll out-the-info-fast attitude, like how things of today usually are. She went over automotive details, in my opinion, effortlessly, almost like a car expert. I asked her out of awe (and chick embarrassment), if she knew alot about cars and she modestly said that she knows some but she is also learning alot. AUL, I have had the most satisfactorily genuine and natural customer service conversation and experience with Karina. SHE is an outstanding representative of your company. The worst experience.. I have an extended warranty with them on my 2014 Ford Mustang GT and my car is a clean car that even Ford dealership said it's a really clean car so I start hearing a ticking noise in the engine so I took it to Ford and diagnose it and then they said that the noise is coming from inside the engine and there is a metal shavings in the oil Caused by a failure in one of the bearings so they start taking apart the engine piece by piece because Aul wanted a Visible broken part because the shavings in the engine and a ticking noise apparently are not enough evidence for them so forward started taking it apart piece by piece which is almost 150 something pieces and every week AUL send an investigator to check but still not enough for them cuz they want a complete broken part . Apparently they don't understand that the engine parts the inner parts are sensitive so I scratch in it might break the whole engine down soon and my file is still pending and my car is at the dealership on the lift read more

Genuinely stunned at how quick and simple it was to work with them. Received coverage when purchasing a used car from a dealership, and was a bit suspect of the idea of a warranty on a used vehicle. About 9-months into owning the vehicle the fuel pumps failed and couldn't drive the thing. The fuel pumps were covered under the warranty, but again, figured there'd be hassle and back-and-forth and honestly was expecting to have to go through a long ordeal of arguing my way up the chain. What it ended up being was one phone followed up with one e-mail with the associated quotes and receipts, that was it! After that I was taken care of, vehicle repaired, and I was on my way. I just want to thank AUL for such a seamless warranty repair on my vehicle. I had taken in my vehicle for servicing and had mentioned a few noises and such I'd notice and wanted them checked out. I didn't expect to hear what the findings were. I was told what the repairs were going to come to. At first I had forgotten that I had the extended warranty and was taken back by the cost. But I then remembered AUL and to my relief the repairs were covered under my policy with the exception of my deductible. I am more than happy to be covered by AUL. I have a service contract from them on a used vehicle I purchased about three years ago from today. Over the past year, the car had needed some repairs, some of which were very costly. AUL had me covered for every repair with the fee of a deductible (which was miniscule compared to the actual repair cost). Every staff member I've spoken to through the phone were very kind and professional. The service representative I always go to at my Subaru dealership even said AUL is easy and quick to work with. As a college student with little spare money, I am more than thankful to be covered by a company that I know will have my back. read more

So now I'm upset. I just bought this used 2002 Isuzu March 1st. I haven't had any issues til it broke down This past Monday. I had no problem Getting it towed or an automotive shop to send it to. Now they say my 2 nd gear is out& my alternator .I have to pay $585 upfront for AAMCO to dissect my transmission &then see if AUL even covers the issues . This is crazy. I've only owned it since March 1,2019& now I have no vehicle.Im single mother of 3 kids,both my son&myself are disabled Sad that EZMOTORS &AUL are both ripoffs. I can't afford to dissect my transmission. Then if AUL decides not to cover it I have to pay for it. This is so disappointing . read more

I am editing my review of aul! We had to wait a while but mainly due the auto repair shop we went to. Our engine repair was authorized and we are so pleased! Aul has been very polite and understanding through this all! Right after our engine quit working on our only car my one year old son started having seizures and obviously we put less focus on our vehicle. But they handled everything and they have truly been a lifesaver through a already difficult time! I will most certainly purchase another extended warranty through aul. We bought a used car and against my better judgement bought an extended warranty through AUL. Tried to use it today for a transmission failure. They denied the claim through a technicality. The car we have has an automatic transmission in it. This particular transmission has internal clutches which failed. The exclusion in the contract says they don't cover clutches but my assumption was the car is an automatic so it doesn't have a clutch. Be careful and make sure you know all the covered components and technical makeup of your car before you consider AUL. Sad they seem to be out for a buck versus doing the right thing. read more

As an AUL agent and a contract holder for my own vehicle I can tell you from decades of experience that this is the best service contract company on the planet. In our 21 year history we have for brief periods of time marketed other service contracts. That was a mistake every time. No one is as customer friendly and agent friendly as AUL. I purchased a vehicle last year that needed a significant amount of work done to it that I used my AUL service contract to cover. There was also work the dealership thought would be covered by the warranty but it clearly was not. Given the mistake the dealer had made, it left me having to cover much more than I could afford. Color me impressed. I have had bad experiences with other 3rd party warranties in the past. I thought I was a sucker for folding and buying the extended warranty on this non-certified used car from a dealer. But just 2 months later I had over $1300 in a single repair (3 separate issues). Mechanic got on phone with AUL on my behalf, got it all approved and got me a rental all covered by AUL and without issue. I was blown away. This is nothing like my past experiences. Generally Warranty Companies are difficult to work with. They don't want to pay out. It hurts their bottom line. However, this has not been my experience with AUL. Whenevr I call and ask questions, I get resonable answers. The claims that were made were made by the car dealer on my behalf. Just about every time my claim was paid. They have saved me a lot of money on repairs. And, now that my jeep has a lot of miles on it. they have been great. If you're going to get a warranty on your vehicle, go with AUL. read more

They have done all the work required as per their contract. Sure, for one service the contract stated a used part would be provided and I chose to pay the $1,000 upgrade for the new part, but that was all disclosed in the contract. The dealerships were all pleasantly surprised how easy they were to work with. I only wish I could renew the coverage but because they have paid more than the warranty price, I cannot renew. I will be purchasing again when my next car's new car warranty expires! read more
