They both rate theres a 9 I rate my seafood a 8. I would definitely recommend trying it out if you haven't. I've been waiting to check Aunt Irene's out and I finally got the chance. When I walked into the restaurant, I could smell all the food. I was literally in heaven. It smelled amazing. We placed our order, they took our name and asked us what car we were driving because they bring the food out to your car when it's done. We literally sat in the car for 25-30 minutes. It wasn't a bad wait at all and when we got our food it was fresh and hot and ready to go. My favorite was the fried catfish and shrimp. Oh and the corn and the sausage lol. The minute you get out of your car, and walk towards be door you can smell the deliciousness of spices and fresh seafood a brewing. Once my nostrils were delightfully assaulted, I sprinted into the small restaurant. I proceeded to order my food, and happily awaited them to call my name. To my surprise, the wait wasn't that long at all, so I got to get down and dirty quickly. I ordered the Black Box... and you guessed it the meal comes in a black box fully wrapped in tin foil. Now once you get through the tin foil and get into the delicious box, if you were at all like me, you'll be shocked at the amount of food they cram in that baby. I had a full box full of shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, and crab legs flavored and soaked in seasonings and juices. To put it nicely, I annihilated my meal. The only compliment I have was that I wanted more juice so I could dip and sop up more deliciousness into my mouth. Knowing how I eat, the tin foil was borderline ingenious aiding in cleanup as well as aiding in any juicy deliciousness dripping out. O yes, let's not forget, the staff was very polite, and they were very on top of checking in with the customers, and keeping the establishment clean. Top notch. Needless to say, I was very pleased, and can't wait to bring my dad to this joint. I will be getting a Lobster Black Box next time, and CANNOT WAIT to indulge. They have fried corn y'all and I was surprised the snow crab is so fresh tasting. I visit during the week to avoid any long waits times. Also I order online to make a quick in and out pick up. Location is a mom and pops kind of spot and it's also in the hood so don't be surprised of your surroundings lol if you know you know. As much I want to always support black owned business sometimes we have to be real with eachother. I'm sorry but Opening doors 30mins after you are supposed to be opened is really unacceptable. My cousin had to call the desoto location for them to call this one to tell them to open up. No greeting or anything as we first walked in, there were women with bonnets on and men with ski masks. Very unprofessional. A woman then proceeded to tell us "they aint got no food yet so she cant take our order for another 30min". We already drove a hour to get there so we waited. However the fried lobster, fried corn, and fries were delicious. The shrimps were a little salty and the chicken lacked flavor. The fried pork chop sandwich was a little chewy and lacked flavor as well. (Was also told they were out of bacon so it didn't come on the pork chop sandwhich like the original one). I finally got to visit after all the hype. I must say that it was a 30 minute wait JUST to order (which was through a window inside the building). After ordering it took another 30-40 minutes for your food to be ready due to them frying the food fresh. We ordered two types of boxes: The famous Black Box (crab legs, sausage, and shrimp + corn and potatoes). Plenty of food, but was lukewarm. You could tell that a bunch of these boxes were pre-made. This was disappointing. The Fried Catfish and Wings Box (catfish & wings + cheesy potatoes, corn, and a piece of toast) was my absolute favorite. The potatoes in THIS box was BOMB!! Came out hot and super good! ORDER THIS ONE!! I also ordered the strawberry lemonade ($3)... this was quite refreshing! We lucked out on seating. #praisedance We would have had to go elsewhere if there wasn't a table for us four. As we waited, 90's R&B played on the televisions via YouTube. A lot of the recent reviews are pretty accurate. Long lines, no online orders, no dining in & doesn't answer the phone. Before I start my review, let me say this was my first time ordering crab legs so I really don't have anything to compare it to. We arrived here when they opened and unfortunately, there was already a line! A line that goes outside at that. But, they have tents outside where the line is, so you have some type of shade. Once you get inside, you are greeted with *drum rolls* another line! But this one has chairs and air conditioning. They are indeed practicing social distancing, and have the chairs spaced out 6 feet apart. Staff are also wearing masks. Once you get to the window to order, you also see a menu printed on the wall along with prices. You order, describe your car and then wait in your car for your food to be brought out. I did the all crab box, he did the lobster box. No sides, add ons or anything and the total was about $90 for the both. In total, we waited an hour in line, and about 25-30mins in the car. When we got home, we dug right in and O M G. Everything was AMAZING. The crab legs, the sausage, the corn, the potatoes, hell even the orange slice! They were seasoned very well and also came with 2 sides of butter to dip your seafood in. The food was literally perfect, and it was a LOT OF FOOD! Best Cajun restaurant I had tried In Dallas. We had ordered the "black Box". Price was ok not cheap but about market value. You get a good portion for your order. However,the restaurant is very dirty, sticky and very unsanitize. Restaurant has bar caged in front because of the area of which It is located in. It is located in a sketchy area and the restaurant environment it self, does not feel safe. The wait time was horrible. It was an hour wait time, at least for me. This is the third time I've been to aunt Irene's and it did not disappoint. Due to the COVID 19 there have been some changes. When I got there it was a line outside but they had tents to shield from the sun. Once someone came out of the restaurant another person could go in and no one is allowed in without a mask. Once my order was placed they asked what vehicle I was in so they could bring the food out to me. I appreciate how much was done to keep everyone as safe as possible. This is a very humble place in not the best part of South Dallas, but trust me that the food is amazing and the service is very friendly and attentive. You order your food trough a little window inside the restaurant. You pay (they accept all major credit cards) and they'll call you once your order is ready. You can either take your food to go or eat there on one of their 6 tables at their dining area. We had the large lobster box ($50.00) and all was really good...specially the sausage and the corn. I finally made it to the famous Aunt Irene's! it was amazing. Me and a couple friends stopped by after my hair appt to finally try it. It was all of our's first time. The line was LONG! Whew.. However it was moving, was told what made things take a little long was that the fried food is made fresh. (this is amazing) We stood in like for about 45 mins- to an hour. I was with the girls and was determined to try this place so the time wasn't badly spent. I bought "The Black Box" no sausage with a piece of the fried catfish.. Let me tell you how amazing that piece of catfish was. It was hot and fresh and perfectly seasoned! OMG! The link basket is a big no. Links are cheap and seemed to be filled with a tripe filler. The old Good Luck link basket has fallen completely off and I was looking for a replacement. Rather than giving 4 links, I'd prefer the standard three links with a better quality link. These are cereal that you might as well put in a bowl and pour milk over. Even my grandson rejected it and he's like Mikey, he will eat everything. I had to beg my wife for some of her burger, which I did like. Not worth $16. These were the best crabs I have had in my life and like I said it's been 5 years since I've had the pleasure of having them. The line stretched to back if the dining room which I hear isn't bad for the weekend lol so if you aren't there early be prepared to wait in a line to order. We waited about 45 minutes or more in line and another 15 for our orders - fried food takes longer it seems. I ordered the black box with sausage and an extra sauce and y'all...it was so good! So, the black box has crab legs, shrimp, corn, potatoes. Sausage is optional but the box without sausage actually cost more. Get extra sauce! Yes it cost more but it sets everything off. The food is worth the wait and not pricey, but you also get plenty of it. My box was stuffed. The boxes come wrapped in foil and in bags so you can take to go without causing a mess. However, we chose to eat there - the wait had us starving and it looked too good lol. They have boxes of gloves and buckets for shells on the tables in the dining area along with plenty napkins. If you have a chance to get a bag of their crack cookies - do it! They have pecans in them though. Soft, melt in your mouth and tastes like butter pecan ice cream. I have so many mixed emotions about my review. I love supporting black businesses, and want to give Aunt Irene's Kitchen 5 stars so bad. Service: There is a janky sign to inform you that there is no refund once your order is place. This is a forewarning of the horrible wait time to come. Service is turtle slow! You will wait 30-45 minutes to order and another 25-45 minutes to receive your food. Lack of communication to customers. You must keep asking about your order. No offer of a drink or anything while you wait. Pricing: Prices are high, but the portions are plenty. You can eat from one box for days. Location: In the heart of South Dallas near Deep Ellum and the Fair Park. Parking is scarce. Seating is limited. It is a hole in the wall but clean for the most part. Food: Well seasoned. I enjoyed gumbo, catfish, crab legs, sausage, corn and potatoes...all delectable. The food really deserves a 5 star, but being that I give the service a 1 star...a 3 star rating it is! Finally picked up my food at plano drop off location few days ago and aunt Irene's Kitchen never disappoint. Everything was so good and yummy. I ordered black box seafood, pasta and two eggs. Black box came with shrimp, crab legs, lots of sausages, corns, potatoes and pasta comes with crab meat, shrimp and sausages and was my favorite. Egg was coated with some seasoning and was okay. Overall, food was delicious and enough for one person- black box. Pasta came in a small plastic bowl, not enough for one person. I would have ordered extra bowl pasta, if I had known the sizes. So next time I will order enough for one meal. Price was a bit high compared to other seafood joints I've been to, they probably added transportation fees. I would definitely go to the house to pickup my food next time, didn't like that my food was at the back of trucks when I was picking it up. Makes me wonder what else was in that truck , Just my personal opinion. So I might order again soon, if not it was all worth checking out. I tried this place today based on all of the hype. I spent $61.16. Drove 45 min going and 55 minutes back home. I ordered a lobster box, 1 piece of fried fish, a cake, a bag of cookies. Was it worth it NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!! Once I got home in my bag was a reg black box and utensils. Luckily I was given my desserts before the order was ready as I waited. They called my name and I barely got a chance to ask was the butter in the bag due to the hurried response. The kicker is that the phone number is just that... no one answers and no vm is set up. I did put a note in messenger on FB. The desserts and the butter sauce was the reason I gave this place a 1. They where all good. The seafood was also a let down and I have had better. At this point I got taken. I paid wayyyy to much for a bunch of nothing. I did not even get a receipt. My only proof is the money taken from my bank account. If it was worth burning more gas to go back and get reimbursed I would... frankly I do not want to waste anymore money. We were heading to the Crab Station in Deep Ellum but they weren't open for business. We are just a few corners away from Aunt Irene's, so let's go see what the hype is all about. We parallel park right in front of the building, dash in just before closing, and got in the short line hoping they weren't out of anything our tastebuds were set on. I stepped up to the window to place my order and the Professional, No non-sense (it's too hot & too busy for all that extra stuff lol) Cashier was standing in front of a curtain, sheet, divider or something, separating her from the kitchen. Between the slight openings in the curtain, I could see fans blowing, someone sitting in a chair & the kitchen looked incomplete (didn't care to see anymore than that) I let her know I wanted the Black Box (crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes & corn) She let me know they were out of lemonade, the cooler is broken so all the drinks aren't cold and they didn't have any ice (WTH?) Ohhhh kay I'll take water. I paid, stepped away and waited for my order. About 2 minutes later Black Box for LC. I went to collect my box, joined my friend on the other side of the I shaped space to prepare to eat up. The small dining area was quite warm with only a residential stand up fan circulating air, the walls looked freshly painted and there are a number of old photos of Irene & I'm guessing her kids & grandkids and many, many crosses laying on a counter (was told by my god-son that those would never be put up & they are finished decorating in there hehe) Stepped in the restroom to wash my hands, it was old but neat (not necessarily clean), had soap, paper towels and tissue. Got back to my Black Box and after carefully opening the black styrofoam to go box stuffed with crab legs, sausage, corn, shrimp & potatoes, packed with juices & seasonings, tightly wrapped in aluminum foil and inside of a plastic bag holy shit....,this is a lot of damn food lmao. it was time to eat. Crab Legs - huge cluster, perfectly seasoned, juicy, tender meat. Didn't really need the special butter but what the heck? mmmm mmmmm mmmmm Shrimp - seasoned very well but a little tough, may have been cooked a bit too long, or re-heated in the microwave Sausage - sooo good, where'd y'all get it? The corn and potatoes were a hit too. They charge you more if you don't get sausage which is ok, but why pay more if you're getting less...?
