Came here because my boyfriend was craving oysters. We sat at the back bar and the server was top tier. The menu looked so mid to me, (but I guess no one's taken good pictures of the food here.) the ambiance is classic, they have two bars, indoor and patio seating. Parking was a bit tight but I later learned they have their own lot around back -not the strip mall side- I also discovered "oyster shooter"s exist and you can drink an oyster in a vodka shot! The lemon meringue pie was absolutely delicious and so were the jumbo lump crab cocktail had minimal crab meat and more lettuce but tasted good as a sort of crab salad... the jumbo lump crab cake was exquisite and I can genuinely say this because I tried to buy some at the Whole Foods across the street to make at home later and it tasted like the ocean - so this place definitely has a special touch on their crab! Shocking another 5 star review for the best food, service, and restaurant around. Always amazing service! Love the decor, hidden gem! The wife ordered the BBQ shrimp ( always get the large and thank yourself later by ordering additional bread to go). It's been a long while since my husband and I have eaten here. We were not disappointed!! Our waitress was amazing and took good care of us! We each had a dozen oysters on the half shell. What a great spot this is- and right in the neighborhood! I had family visiting for a few days and we wanted a light dinner. I had spotted this restaurant in one of my walks with my dog and took mental notes promising myself to come back- well here was the perfect opportunity. I called to inquire about reservations and was told they only take reservations for parties of 8 or more - we could just walk in. We were seated immediately and friendly staff took our drink orders. Came for dinner on my birthday which also happened to be the 49th anniversary of the restaurant so they had oysters on special for 49 cents each. The gulf oysters were big and delicious. The bartender made the cocktail sauce for me and it was amazing. For my meal I wasn't sure what u wanted so I got the sampler. There was some good and not so good on this but overall was good. The fried shrimp, coleslaw and oysters on the half shell are my go to. Tastes great, but be prepared to pay out the kazoo. Their prices have gone sky high and so check it out before you go. The outdoor area out back is so beautiful and that improvement is most likely the reason for the exorbitant prices. I've been going there almost 50 years, and the food has never changed in quality, but prices now are super inflated for what you get--small cup of Cole slaw, 5-10 fried shrimp, (prices depending on how many), French fries, a couple of hush puppies. Add a beer or two and a dozen oysters on the half shell and it's going to be over $100 plus tip for 2 people. The ambience inside the front door is 0, and always has been. But it's the great taste of the menu that's always been the draw. We now only go a couple times a year for our anniversary and Good Friday. I visited this Dallas staple for the first time last night. It is so cute! Theres a bar and more seating in the back as well. Also- they have two parking lots a block away. I came here after my first pilates class with Oak Cliff Pilates - love the community involvement! My group hung out at the bar in back. The waiters and bartenders were super friendly and everything came out very quick. They have a small seafood menu and a massive drink menu. Lots of great cocktails to choose from. The best cole slaw in Dallas wasn't right - dry and the seasoning or lack there of was off. The fried shrimp was almost plain - again the seasoning was too light and the tartar sauce didn't have the usual flavor. They are the best I've ever had anywhere. Light and fluffy and nicely flavored with just a hint of onion. The shrimp was perfect and succulent. You can't get better this far from the coast. Really had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately the oyster loaf and gumbo fell very short for me. First the gumbo, it was the darkest gumbo I've ever seen and the ingredients were almost indistinguishable as they seemed to be very overcooked. The oyster loaf was not much better and the fact that they are a New Orleans inspired restaurant made it doubly disappointing. The bread was nothing like the delicious French bread of New Orleans and the fried oysters lacked that authentic taste of South Louisiana. Now for the positive. The restaurant had a great ambiance and the service was excellent! The highlight for me was the Gulf oysters on the half shell.
