We immediately take it back to the counter, and the woman who served us called the manager named Cisco over. He called the owner of the store and then instead of giving her a new card with an intact code, he told her to call customer service. Wtf. My friend then asked for a refund since now this was a hassle, and he refused. He spoke very slowly and had a bad attitude, showed no understanding. Auntie Anne's in the Ala Moana Center Makai Food Court is a decent fast food option. Warm, buttery pretzels...a good option to a sandwich or burger. Got the original on my initial visit. Think it was in the warmer, so it was okay. Plain but fine...sometimes less is more, as the adage goes..but they do offer dipping sauces. Second time, I tried the jalapeno pretzel. It took about the 6 minutes I was told it would take and it was toasty warm and spicy. Employee forgot my dipping sauce but it was not needed...no big deal. Sometimes, the perks are like Yelp Elite Experiences where perks can be redeemed within the week. Auntie Anne's was one of those week-long perks! I downloaded the Auntie Anne's app and made an account. I ordered online and picked up at the Ala Moana location which is on the Ground Level at the Makai Food Court. We had a choice of an Original or Cinnamon Sugar pretzel. The fine line is that it's a Buy One, Get One Free deal. I chose two Original pretzels. The pretzel was warm and soft with a touch of butter and some salt crystals. The salt was spaced far enough apart so that it had just the right amount of flavor! This was a pretty good deal! If I was basing this review strictly on the food alone I would give it 5 stars. Their pretzels are so good. It's a little chewy on the inside with a slight crunch on the bottom. Their mini pretzel dogs are also fantastic. The slight saltiness from the mini dogs compliments the pretzels. After working at a bakery for three years during my college days, I hate bread. However, I find myself always craving this place. The regular lemonade infused with strawberry syrup wasn't that great. I would pass on that. However, the frozen lemonade with strawberry syrup is where it's at. Do yourself a favor and get the frozen version. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The last two times was not good. The first time I went with a coupon on my phone and the guy didn't know how to ring it up. He had to call his manager who was on break. The frozen lemonade machine was down, so I had to get the regular version. He couldn't find the Auntie Anne's cups, so he just put my drink in a standard cup. A few days later I was happy to see the frozen lemonade machine going again. This time I ordered the mini pretzel dogs with the frozen lemonade with strawberry syrup. However, the cashier told me the frozen lemonade machine was stuck and had to refund me for the lemonade. The other girl comes from the back, does something to the machine and it's working again. The menu is pretty simple as they offer varuous types of pretzels (regular size & bite size), & they even offer pretzel dogs. Now if you're not into just a plain pretzel, the do offer various flavored pretzels like - Cinnamon Sugar, Sweet Almond, Raisin, Jalapeno, Sour Cream & Onion, and Roasted Garlic & Parmesan. There are also some dipping sauces that you can buy to go with your pretzels like - Cheese, Caramel, Marinara, Sweet Glaze, Hot Salsa Cheese, Cream Cheese, and Strawberry Cream Cheese. On my visit to Auntie Anne's, I decided to get a Sour Cream & Onion Pretzels. For ($4.07 - tax included) for this pretzel, I think I could have made a better choice for a quick snack, as this pretzel was overly salty and not satisfying at all. Lol! My Sour Cream & Onion Pretzel was just a regular pretzel just buttered and dipped in a sour cream powder, and upon eating it, I felt it was overly salty, as I had to flick off most of the powered on my pretzel to consume it. I don't visit this location often. Last visit was different. With Covid social distancing and all that going on, the food court hasn't been busy at all. I don't know what this location is like on any other normal day, but for us, it was nice not having to wait in a line. We always enjoy pretzels from Auntie Annes. They're crisp on the outside, soft and not dry on the inside. Buttery and a little bit salty. Yum. The prices are higher than what I'd like to pay for a carby snack, but what ya gonna do? Thankfully there's an app that holds their reward program. Just make sure you always get your points that way you can reap the benefits of your purchases. Every now and then, they'll throw you a bone and do a BOGO or $x off a certain menu item. I probably won't visit this location often, only because it's far from our area. We always get 3-4 pretzels from here every time we come to Ala Moana. I have NEVER been offered a coupon or informed about the pretzel perk program. I even asked them if they participate in the frequent buyer stamp card like the Auntie Anne's in the mainland and they said "no". Service here is always hit and miss. Most of the time customer service is definitely lacking especially when you ask them how old the pretzels are. That was the case with our visit today. The employee was nice enough until I asked how old the pretzels were. After I asked that question she started giving her coworkers these looks. I get how that question must annoy them, but as a customer paying $4.07 per pretzel with tax, you want to make sure the pretzel is edible. Sometimes they sell old pretzels that have sat under the heat lamp for so long it's hard to swallow, especially for little kids. Anyway, the other employee that didn't give me the look was nice enough to give us the somewhat newer batch so it all worked out. As you purchase items, you earn 10 points for every $1 you spend; receiving a free pretzel for every 300 points. You can also order online for large gatherings so it's all ready to go! The store is very clean and nicely laid out. The counter with cashiers faces the food court. Shared use tables are everywhere, so there's plenty of places to enjoy your food. They also have a back entrance that opens into the makai parking garage. Along the left side of the restaurant is the pretzel making counter, which you can watch the workers make all the treats. Take note of the pretzel shaped patterns on the counter to get the right sizes. The menu is on monitors above, rotating in both English and Japanese. It's a simple concept; choose a pretzel or pretzel bites, a topping like almonds, pepperoni, or cinnamon sugar- my favorite! They also have dipping sauces like cheese and cream cheese for added fun. They also have savory items with meat, like hot dogs. You will be thirsty eating these as their signature style is greasy, buttery, and salty. They have sodas, ICEE, and famously, lemonade (which benefits the charity Alex's Lemonade Stand). Prices here are very reasonable for how rich and filling everything is. Many items are in the warmer at the front- if they don't look fresh be sure to ask for a new one and wait; patience is worth having a warm and truly soft pretzel. It's my first time trying any sort of specialty pretzel store so I'm not familiar with the rigamarole of adding toppings, etc. You can go either sweet or savory route. Calorie counts are listed on the menu so I decided to go with Sweet Almond since it was 80 calories less than the Sugar Cinnamon, lol. My pretzel was nice & warm & lightly crispy. After I paid, I asked for a coupon from the young Filipino gentlemen and he readily gave me one. My friend who was next to me asked for one and he flat out said no. You need to buy a pretzel to her. Thus, we walked away. Hey, I told her, you can use my coupon and buy a pretzel. As we came back he looked at us and said, you guys again? Terrible service at this location. Placed an online order in advance that didn't show up in their store by the time I got there. When I politely asked the worker where my order was, he yelled at me saying it's not in their system so it's not ready yet. I tried to show him my email and he continued to be rude and condescending claiming "it's not in their system" and refusing to assist me. Presumably it showed up because they made it and when I took it (I was in a rush) the worker yelled at me again claiming I had an attitude. Excuse me? *I* wasn't the one with attitude.
