The right amount of Philly "dirt." Shappy has found a way to perfectly replicate this here in LA. I ordered online and picked up my order at Canter's Deli (shame on you Shappy... I walked out of there with a black and white too!) The initial order of 6 won't last very long, and then I'll be back for more!

I understand that Shappy's is not Canter's where the pickup was for that day. But I had a bad experience with my pickup. The people working at Canter's were incredibly rude and kept bouncing me from one counter to the other. Please note: these counters are across from each other and it seemed like the employees had some kind of interpersonal conflict. They were rude to each other, to me. I finally went the host to get help and he brushed me off and said I couldn't pick up here. Fortunately, one woman came out from the back, a server, and she got my order for me. Of course, she was immediately reprimanded for helping me. I would definitely go again to Shappy's if the pickup was anywhere else. Update: Shappy's reached out to me about my above issue within 30 minutes of posting and they took the time to talk and make things right. That's customer service right there! I will put up with Canter's to support Shappy! GO BIRDS!

Especially on a nice day, sitting outside with a drink is such a great vibe. The servers are also friendly, knowledgeable and clearly know what they're doing. This time, I skipped the beer and tried a German Riesling instead. I believe it was anayler Riesling and it was a perfect pairing. German food can get a little rich after a while, and one sip of the Riesling refreshes your palate right away. Definitely give the Riesling a try next time!

The crispy schnitzel was topped with a creamy garlic sauce and a perfectly fried egg!! I paired it with homemade sauerkraut and homemade Spatzle, which made the meal feel truly authentic and comforting To complete the experience, I had a Paulaner Oktoberfest beer and it paired perfectly with the food The service was friendly, the food was excellent, and I really enjoyed my visit. The only thing I felt was missing was a stronger German atmosphere. Some traditional German music playing in the background would make the experience even more immersive and memorable!!

Hands down one of my favorite spots in LA, and we've been coming back for years. The second you…read morewalk in you feel like you've been teleported straight to Bavaria - dark wood, old-world decor, the whole thing. It's a European vibe that you just don't find anywhere else in the city. Their beer selection is what really sets them apart. They've got an impressive rotating tap and bottle list loaded with German imports you won't see at your average bar. A few of the drafts include Spaten Lager, Bitburger Pils, and Gaffel Kölsch. If you're into beer, this is basically a pilgrimage spot. Food is good too. Generous portions, and there are even solid vegetarian options if you're not in a meat-and-beer mood. What really makes Red Lion special is the space itself, there's a cozy indoor chalet style room for when you want that intimate tavern feel, plus a huge multi level biergarten/ patio upstairs and out back for when you want to be outside under the lights with a beer in hand. It gives you options depending on the night. Always a great mix of people, good energy without being rowdy. It's the kind of place that feels like a neighborhood spot even though it transports you halfway across the world. If you love good beer, hearty German food, and a genuinely unique European atmosphere, Red Lion Tavern is a must. This place has my heart.

The most we have seen so far, it was more a "business plan" let's do what Americans may think a German beer garden looks like. Our friend, the LA promoter Vahe, took us yesterday. We found a little gem, grown over the years, with an actual German owner and a service that had more than basic knowledge of German food. Nice! The ambiance was what you would expect from a place like this, less stylish-designer but more owner look-what-we-brought-from-Germany over the many years. The food was actually good, reasonably priced and generously portioned - the sauce platter really deserved its name "platter"- Came with great German curry ketchup. It would be too much to brag about the food, it was decent better than just OK version of classic beer garden dishes. But one has to be fair: where in German beer gardens you find food really worth bragging about? So while I was really tempted to stop at 4 out of five stars, I give 5. After all, it matches my most key how-to-get-5 element: would I do a 30+ min detour just to go here. If someone asked me to show them decent German cuisine in a somewhat authentic ambiance, I would take them here. The Kiez may be closer to our home, the Wirtshaus more stylish, but here we found the hearty welcome we missed elsewhere.

I was really hungry, after a 12 hour flight from Frankfurt to Los Angeles, then an hour bus ride from LAX to union station--so I decided to give them a chance. The workers are very rude and didn't treat me well. The Hispanic lady with glasses got my order wrong, then she had to correct it. Next, the credit card reader wasn't working and my payment wasn't going through. Then, the lady working there started to speak to me random nonsense in Spanish, when I had never spoken Spanish to her to begin with. All our conversation had been in English. I do speak Spanish, but how can you switch from English to Spanish without knowing that the customer actually speaks Spanish? This applies to any other language as well. I understand the lady working there is young and maybe meant well. But my whole ordering experience was very bad. I'd never order from a place that makes so many mistakes for even the simplest of issues.

Greatest Wetzel's Pretzels to exist right next to the waiting hall and bathrooms at Union Station…read more Had dragged my brother on a crazy transit journey since 6AM, and by 5PM we hadn't eaten food or drunken any liquids. I offered to buy him some cinnamon bites and a lemonade. Staff are so unbelievably kind, when I received this bag of cinnamon bites I could have screamed. It felt like a newborn baby was handed to me. This bag was huge and every bite was COATED in cinnamon sugar. And he had put in extra napkins and a fork without asking. Our lemonade was delicious. Since it's Union station there's a lot of security around and not many places to sit down and enjoy this gift from God. But we finished our bag of cinnamon bites by the time we pulled up at our home station an hour later. No pictures because we feasted like rabid wolves.

Disappointing end to 15 years of loyalty…read more I have been a loyal customer of Coffee Tomo since 2011, frequently recommending it to friends. Sadly, that ends today. Over the last couple of years, the charm of this café has faded, culminating in a truly awful experience this morning. The solo staff member working today was incredibly discourteous. Because I had my leashed dog with me, she practically threw me out of the store. While she pointed to the "no dogs allowed" sign, I explained that I was only inside to order and planned to sit outside, something I have done on countless previous visits. After being forced to wait outside, my drink was left sitting on the counter for several minutes. The barista never bothered to let me know it was ready, despite the café being slow. To make matters worse, the beverage was poorly made, with coffee spilled all over the saucer. This isn't the first time I've experienced bad service here, but it will definitely be the last.
