Greatest Wetzel's Pretzels to exist right next to the waiting hall and bathrooms at Union Station. Had dragged my brother on a crazy transit journey since 6AM, and by 5PM we hadn't eaten food or drunken any liquids. I offered to buy him some cinnamon bites and a lemonade. Staff are so unbelievably kind, when I received this bag of cinnamon bites I could have screamed. It felt like a newborn baby was handed to me. This bag was huge and every bite was COATED in cinnamon sugar. And he had put in extra napkins and a fork without asking. Our lemonade was delicious. Since it's Union station there's a lot of security around and not many places to sit down and enjoy this gift from God. But we finished our bag of cinnamon bites by the time we pulled up at our home station an hour later. No pictures because we feasted like rabid wolves. read more

I was waiting for my bus back home to Fresno, I went to use the restroom and saw the pretzel place open. I was really hungry, after a 12 hour flight from Frankfurt to Los Angeles, then an hour bus ride from LAX to union station--so I decided to give them a chance. The workers are very rude and didn't treat me well. The Hispanic lady with glasses got my order wrong, then she had to correct it. Next, the credit card reader wasn't working and my payment wasn't going through. Then, the lady working there started to speak to me random nonsense in Spanish, when I had never spoken Spanish to her to begin with. All our conversation had been in English. I do speak Spanish, but how can you switch from English to Spanish without knowing that the customer actually speaks Spanish? This applies to any other language as well. I understand the lady working there is young and maybe meant well. But my whole ordering experience was very bad. Compared to grabbing something equally priced at the nearby convenience store, you can get a warm pretzel or a fresh slushy lemonade. At my recent visit, I got the regular lemonade. I would look at their display counter their new items on display not to mention their big colorful tv like where they show their new products. As I see it, they always have freshly baked bread... they even have burger, which is good. When I passed by last week, I see a new product on display...mozzarella wrapped instead of hotdog. And it was really good. Though I got the bread a little burned it is still good dip in salsa sauce. The staff here are very nice and very diligent in their work. Stopped for a evening snack at the Historic LA Union Station. Picked up a double order of salted pretzel, tasty because they were piping hot, but undercooked overall. Still a satisfying snack. So why 1 Star: While I was there a very well dressed in business attire man showed up check checkout clearly looking visibly disturbed. He was carrying a bag of that appeared to be full of pretzel bites, on top of the bag was a piece of something about the size of a pretzel bite but looked like an old piece of dried out chewed dough, or a giant dried out spit wad, or large chewed herb tea bag. Whatever it was it was quite disgusting, and the man looked like he had reached in the bag and grabbed that disgusting gem of of unsanitary something. But the most appalling part was how the entire shift of three dealt with man. First they refused to do anything about it. Then the lady who appeared to be the shift manager had the audacity to accuse the customer of planting the item in the bag himself, and actually engaged in a lengthy argument with him. I was dumbfounded. Give the man his money back, it was obvious he had eaten very little of what he had ordered. After what seemed like 10 minutes the staff ultimately refunded his purchase and he left the bag of food and the disgusting wad or nugget of something not was not sanitary or edible on top if the bag at the check out. (I personally would have kept and sent to city Health Department). Once the man left the night crew then started laughing and making fun of the man, while still leaving the bag and chewed dough wad or spit wad or whatever it was on the counter at the check out. I was so disgusted with what I saw, and how it was handled that tossed the remainder my $10 order, feeling it may not be sanitary or safe to eat. I hope the night shift for May 17, 2019 is fired in its entirety. The store should be closed, and thoroughly steam cleaned from top to bottom. And inspected by city Health Department to make sure everything is being done to health standards. I was at Union Station, running late, and feeling my blood sugar drop with every step. And they certainly were convenient. I had 2 pretzel dogs for $5.00. They turned out to be very good 1/4 lb. all beef dogs, each wrapped in (what else?) a pretzel bun, and placed lovingly under a heat lamp, waiting for some commuter to settle for them. I happened by Wetzel's the other day and decided to stop in for one of the best food items ever. The Jalapeño Cheese Pretzel Dog!! What more can you say about them. They have everything one could ask for in a dog. A great hot dog, wrapped in pretzel dough, topped with cheese and sliced jalapeños, and baked to perfection. They were fresh out of the oven. Hot and tasty. It was kind of busy but the team got us taken care of in just a couple of short minutes. Waiting in line is rough at Wetzel's because of the extreme anticipation of biting in to that Jalapeño Cheese dog. IF they are on special at 2 for $5, I'm in heaven. You don't want to eat two - but at 2 for $5, you have too. And then you say that you won't eat the whole second one, but find it impossible to crumple it up and toss it in the trash. The smell of fresh bread wafts through the Union Station tunnel, and I every time I walk through, I can't help but curse Wetzel's for putting such wonderful temptations in front of me and so close to work! I finally gave in and indulged. They have a special right now for two regular pretzels for $4. I shared with a friend and got the original, unsalted. It was a bit hard, but warm. The hint of butter with every bite was delicious. I could eat it all by itself, but got a packet of spicy brown mustard as a dipping sauce. The free packets sit next to the cash register.
