Cute spot with plenty of parking and a nice atmosphere. We started with the cornbread, which was delicious. My partner's catfish was cooked perfectly, though the dirty rice needed a little more flavor. I wasn't a fan of the candied yams, but my partner enjoyed them. I ordered the Steak Frites medium rare and was really disappointed. The steak came out gray, looked off, and the chimichurri was dry. I gave it a chance but could only manage a couple of bites. My husband and I visited Auntie's in Smyrna for the first time about three weeks ago before one of our dance classes, and our experience was outstanding. In fact, it was so good that we made a point to come back. The first visit was memorable from the moment the food arrived. I don't normally eat cornbread, but their cornbread was some of the best I've ever had. I ordered the fried fish with dirty rice, and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had the fried fish with fries and vegetables, and everything was excellent. We left impressed and excited to return. Unfortunately, our second visit was very different. We returned for lunch before a business meeting with our daughter. My daughter ordered the shrimp and grits, my husband ordered the fried fish and fries again, and I ordered fried fish with grits. I specifically requested that my fish be served on the side rather than on top of the grits. When the plate arrived, it appeared that the fish had simply been removed from the grits, as one side was still covered with them. I politely brought it to the server's attention. The fish was taken back and returned a few moments later, but it appeared the same fish had simply been re-fried, resulting in an overcooked, greasy piece of fish. At that point, I chose not to make a scene. As a business owner myself, I understand the challenges that come with operating a small business, especially in the restaurant industry. I quietly spoke with our server, who was kind, professional, and genuinely apologetic throughout the entire experience. Unfortunately, the issues continued. My grits were cold, and my daughter's shrimp and grits were also cold and lacked flavor. She chose not to send hers back because she felt it would not improve the situation. My husband's meal was the only one that seemed consistent with our previous visit. What stood out to me most was our server's effort. She truly tried to make things right and remained pleasant despite what appeared to be challenges happening behind the scenes. She even offered to have another meal prepared for me, and I appreciated her willingness to help. By that point, however, we were running late for our business meeting and had to take the replacement meal to go. Even the cornbread, which had been a highlight of our first visit, was disappointing this time. It was served cold with cold butter on top, which was a stark contrast to the fresh, delicious cornbread we had enjoyed just weeks earlier. I hate leaving anything that could be viewed as a negative review because I genuinely want local businesses to succeed. My first experience showed me what Auntie's is capable of, which is why the second visit was so disappointing. This review is not meant to tear down the restaurant but rather to provide constructive feedback. The biggest concern was consistency. Great food brings customers back, but consistency keeps them coming back. I hope management takes a close look at food quality, kitchen execution, and staffing needs so that every guest receives the same experience that made us fall in love with the restaurant on our first visit. The jerk wings had a nice kick to them without being overwhelming, super flavorful and cooked well. The catfish was crispy on the outside and tender inside, not greasy at all which I appreciated. Cornbread was soft, slightly sweet, and a perfect side to balance everything out. They even added a little handwritten note which was a nice touch and made the whole experience feel more personal. My mom and I decided to stop at Aunties House for lunch yesterday since we were in the area. We were originally going to JR Crickets next door, but changed our minds and I'm glad we did because the food was sooooo good. I was surprised when we walked in the restaurant that it was empty except for 1 other patron dining in. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with modern decor and a nicely stocked bar. They also have a small patio on the side of the building. The server greeted us warmly and gave us some recommendations. I went with the blackened salmon and my mom had the fish and chips. We were both blown away from the flavors. My mom loves catfish and she said this is one of her top catfish meals she's had in her life and she's eaten a lot of it lol. I enjoyed my recent lunch at Auntie's . The restaurant is located on S. Cobb drive next to a J.R. Crickets. There's plenty of free parking available. The restaurant was nearly empty around 12 and I was seated promptly. I began with a Hot Girl which is basically a spicy margarita with pineapple. It was delicious and strong! I also ordered the chargrilled oysters. The oysters were really good and flavorful. For my entree, I ordered the lamb chops with mashed potatoes and dirty rice. The lamb chops chops were drizzled with a honey glaze and cooked medium as I requested. I'd probably skip the mashed potatoes next time, but I did enjoy the dirty rice. I also tried the brussel sprouts and they were a hit. Another drink that I tried was the Aunt Rita. It's a margarita topped with a red wine float. The drinks here are SO good! The waitress was very nice, and gave the best recommendations (check the picture out). We started with the cornbread and oysters. They brought out 3 servings of the cornbread... I could have eaten 20 of those things solo (straight ). I know this isn't a seafood restaurant but the oysters were the best I've ever eaten anywhere (MIA, NY, NOLA, GA, Caribbean, internationally) PERIOD! About 10-15 minutes after the appetizers were served we received our entrees. Grits: creamy , well seasoned, Eaten completely off the plate: Catfish: best seasoned catfish around. Not a huge catfish lover but decided to try based on their recommendation and I had to buy and extra piece to take home for dinner that night because it was so freaking delicious. The fish was thick and flakey, fried just right and seasoned from the heavens. The wifey usually has left overs but the shrimp in grits didn't last. She barely wanted me to taste because she was stuffing her face with shrimps, grits, eggs and some of the French toast. My daughter got the French toast (MASSIVE). We all shared the French toast which had a unique taste and flavor that made you enjoy breakfast and dessert all-in-one. Fries are fries. The way they were blended with the butter sauce on top really set them in a lane all their own as it pertained to a side. The broccolini was cold. It was cooler than room temperature, however, the piece that was in the butter was at almost room temperature. Yet, though it was cold, the flavor profile was spot on. It had a light seasoning to it and the butter sauce elevated the flavor experience from a savory perspective. The tenderness was spot on as well as it had a slight crunch to it but was still tender. Had it not been cold I really think it could have contended with the Mashed head to head. The Blackened Salmon tasted like salmon. The cooking temperature was perfect asI ordered it medium well. It was meaty, moist, and had a great char on the top. Though the flavor was ________ the butter sauce added to the flavor profile, however, the natural fish flavor didn't afford it the chance to infuse from a flavor perspective. The corn muffins were bombbbbbbbbb. They were moist, flavorful, and sweet. The sweetness was a perfect balance to the salt as it allowed the natural corn flavor to remain present but not dominate the bite. The music at Auntie's House Kitchen was spot on from the moment I walked in through my departure. I mean nothing but R&B Hits after Hit. I was def in my element. I can see why this might be a cool hangout for drinks but that would be it for me. Visited with friends on an early Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately and there were maybe only 2 other parties in the dining room. Staff was friendly and attentive to us. Sadly, two of us had dirty utensils. However, I didn't send them back because I was rather hungry and couldn't wait for the turnaround on reheating the plate. The overall flavor was not overly impressive so I won't go any further on the oyster review. The entree I decided to go with was the Lamb Chops. Once again they could have come out at a higher temperature, but I digress. The overall taste was flavorful and well seasoned. They both were the same price ($33) so I chose the plate since it came with greens. I enjoyed my meal! The oxtails were good and the greens were ON POINT! I asked Sophie if they had dessert and she said they have peach cobbler and banana pudding. Of course I chose the cobbler. It looked good but tasted ok. I'll get the pudding next time. I liked the fact they added a scoop of vanilla ice cream with the cobbler. I did request the jerk chicken to go because I enjoyed my meal so much. Sophie explained they no longer have jerk chicken and the menu needs to be updated but it is a fried chicken over rice with the "marry me" sauce. I ate some of it the next day but it wasn't all that good to me and I didn't finish it. Two meals with a cobbler came to about $88. 18% gratuity is already included and I like the fact that the receipt clearly shows that gratuity is included and they don't attempt to hide it under a convenience or service fee. We were able to make same day 8PM reservations for Friday. There was a nice mixed crowd. Aunties House is definitely cute, I absolutely love the bar design and art. PROS Food - i ordered the jerk chicken with mashed potatoes and substituted the broccolini for Brussels sprout. This meal was delicious and filling. I asked for a side of oxtail gravy as well. My husband ordered chargrilled oysters (good) and steak fritters. Service - The staff was kind and I recommend asking for Ty to be your server. He provides service with a smile and a great attitude. Cocktail - My Aunt Rita that was made by Q was on point. Vibe - Definitely a good vibe. Location - Great location Parking - This is always important to me and wasn't an issue. CONS Out of stock on so many items, that was a real bummer. There was no music playing for at least the first 60-90 minutes which was odd for a Friday night. I'm very intentional about supporting black small businesses. My first visit wasn't perfect, but overall it was an overall good. I look forward to visiting again in the near future.
