This review is for the food not the service. The interior gives off a nice vibe and they have a set up for a live band. I'm sure when it's peak time it's live in there so I'll have to come back for an event. Went around noon on a Sunday and it was fairly empty so we sat at the bar and were serviced immediately. Strawberry lemon drop - 10/10 - I love a good lemon drop but a I'll never pass up a flavored one. No notes. Shrimp & Grits - 5/10 - don't get me wrong it was GOOD but it was too rich/cheesy to me. I don't know what I was expecting in terms of cheese but I've never had soooooo much cheese in an order of shrimp and grits. I legit pulled a mound of cheese off the top and it was still too much. I couldn't finish this unfortunately, even taking them home for another day didn't work because I couldn't take the richness. Not a slight to them, just a no for me. There was a great amount of shrimp in the dish and the consistency of the grifts were amazing. Just need something to cut through the richness. My friend had: Omelette - 10/10 - said they enjoyed it and would get it again Side of bacon - 10/10 - you got 6 pieces with the order and that was solid to me. Decided to spend Thanksgiving Eve at Sobe's. We met @ 6am, which was free to get in for happy hour. Happy Hour was DRY. lol. Just one other group of me, maybe some jazz music in the background, while we watched Basketball on the screen Best part about SOBEs was Mrs. Elaine, the bartendar. I would rate the food a 2.5/5. I had the shrimp tacos, which lacked flavor. The shrimp was bland. The Bang Bang shrimp was lacked flavor also. We barely touched these, so disappointing. People started showing up @ 7pm. which was $20 to get in. An AMAZING live cover band played at 9pm. By 7:45 pm, there was also a live DJ playing classic hip hop and RnB. That was such a VIBE! Anyhoo- the most memorable was when we planned a little birthday shindig here way back when ;) and management was awesome ensuring we had enough space for our party. They even suggested a celebratory birthday drink which was delicious & they called it the "SweetTay". The platers they prepared, my guest enjoyed. 3 kinds of wings, fruits and veggies and a crackers & cheese platter. I also appreciated them allowing me to bring in a cake as well as birthday goodies and treats that I put together for my guest. Great vibes, disappointing bites Came here with high hopes for a fun night out, and in some ways, it delivered. The line dancing was the highlight, although the teaching was "learn as you do it" and not remedial for me, lol. There was good music, a lively crowd, and friendly vibes all around. It's a great spot if you're looking to dance and unwind. Unfortunately, the happy hour food didn't measure up. The jerk chicken was overcooked and dry (I'm a visual foodie) and the rest of the small bites did not have my interest. Service was slow and a bit disorganized, which made the experience feel less enjoyable overall. I'm not sure it would warrant another visit from me to try the regular menu. It was a lively scene with energetic music, dancing, and overall vibes. There's a lounge area where people watch sports in addition to an outside patio for hookah. Our waiter was attentive and very personal able. SO the service was good. The food was okay, just a slight above ok. It was hot (temperature and spices). I had wings, lobster mac and cheese. Not sure about you, but I know I could've walked 0.2miles away and gotten two BOTTLES for that price that that 4 shots..... ON TOP OF THAT, the bill includes an automatic 18% gratuity without splitting multiple checks, so also keep that in mind. Overall, the restaurant venue was very posh! I got the Lobster & French toast, which tasted yummy. The Lobster wasn't as juicy as I was expecting. My date got the fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, & greens. They said it could've used some more seasoning. They requested salt & pepper for the table, which helped a little. Sunday brunch at SoBe was surprisingly great! I loved the location, plenty of parking and inside was very spacious. Sunday there was not a lot of ppl and they definitely missed out on all you can eat buffet and bottomless mimosas! :-) I started with the eggs, bacon and French toast. Definitely was a little disappointed in the powder eggs. My second AND third round I opted for the macaroni & cheese and baked salmon, which was very good. I am planning my return for the buffet and can't wait! The service was a bit slow but that is to be expected since this was an all you can eat and drink situation. My wife and I came here for a graduation party. 06.21.25. I've been here a couple times before for gatherings and never thought much of it, it's an ok spot. This place has to have the worst bartenders in the world. Really bad attitudes for no reason. I wanted to buy drinks for my wife and I and two other friends. The first bartender approached while we're getting the order together. I look away then look up and she's gone. When she came back, I make a gesture for her to come take our order and she waves her hands and says something(couldn't hear because the music was loud) then walks away again. The 2nd bartender wasn't much better, still had a bad disposition. They think they are doing you the favor for paying for their watered down drinks. Can make 10X better at home. If a band is playing, you have to arrive before 7pm to avoid a cover charge. The food was ok. The wings were overcooked and did not have a lot of sauce. The Ambience is nice but the live music draws you into the place. I love the vibe and the bands they feature there. The bar service is better if you are sitting at the bar. If not, the wait line for the bar can take some time. I suggest you get there early to get a seat. The food is Delicious! We enjoy their Jamaican Jerk Chicken, SoBe Crispy Shrimp (my favorite), Crab cakes, and Lobster Mac & Cheese (Scrumptious). While the service is extremely slow on the dining room side, it is worth the wait. With that said, let's talk about the service. The bartenders are on point. However, the dining room side seems chaotic with so many people bunched up in that space and not enough servers. They are understaffed. We had to run down our waiter because he hardly came back to the table. I stopped by Sobe's for happy hour (4-7pm) and had a very mixed experience. I arrived at the door around 5:57pm, only to be held up by security for a bag search and ID check. By the time I actually got through the door, it was 6:02pm--just in time to be told I had to pay a $30 cover fee because it was past 6:00pm. To my defense, I'm new to the area and wasn't aware of this policy, nor the evening entertainment starting at 9:00pm. I wasn't there for the band, I came for happy hour. Being forced to pay that fee changed my plans and made me stay longer than expected just to get my money's worth. To make matters worse, the security guard was rude. When I asked why I had to pay since he delayed me at the door, he didn't care. Honestly, it felt intentional the way they stalled people right before the cutoff time. On the positive side, the food and drinks were good, and our bartender "J" was excellent. She helped us find seats, checked on us even after we moved to a different section, and made sure we were taken care of. If you go, definitely look for her! What I found strange (maybe it's a Maryland thing?) was the bill breakdown: food tax, liquor tax, a service fee, and an automatic gratuity added--even though it was just two of us. That felt excessive. Was it worth the $30 cover? Honestly, not really. But since it's close to home and the service from J was great, I might give it another try--hopefully with a better attitude at the door or better yet I'll arrive at 4:00PM to avoid the security all together. read more

First let me start by saying I had a client here from out of town. After we finished up a session we went out for food and drinks. Hearing of Sobe and the Wednesday vibe with music, this was a reason of choice. Well upon arrival to eat and get a table they stated a $100 minimum for a high top, ok that's fine! Then they said it's another $20 just to go inside and order! Ok! We didn't have a problem getting seated and paying for a bottle, food and great conversation! I left not only my wallet but had to take a quick business call that needed quiet! Headed to the door with my client still at the table, security was so rude including the lady at the door taking money saying I had to give them my phone that he snatched out of my hand! I immediately just go to grab my wallet so I can close out at this point and be done. No way any human that's supposed to be attending an upscale lounge should be treated as anything as customer and not as they did. As I head back to the door to pay for my clients and I meal they told me I had to pay an additional fee of 15 dollars just to pay and grab my food and my client! I was outdone, the manager that worked there on that night Wednesday 3-19-2025 was also horrible! As a business owner, you do not treat paying customers like this! Let me tell you! Save yourself time, money and grace by just picking another location where you are treated correctly! After my client told them o was the one paying for the meal they told her to tell me to come back in smh! So I asked them was 15 worth you losing money for the bill of a bottle and meals? Went to SoBe for a quick dinner and immediately upon entry wanted to walk out. I completely understand that this a "lounge" as well, but the music is excessively loud. We were already hungry and decided to just stay and grab a bite to eat. The restaurant side was NOT busy so we were quickly seated. When our waitress came over she could barely hear our order over the music, and that pretty much set the tone for the evening. Long story short our waitress had one table, which was us and she provided HORRIBLE service. She kept forgetting to put food orders in, barely checked on us and every time we wondered where she was, she was in the corner seated on her phone. The other waitresses around us were moving and grooving helping their tables and we got stuck with the worst one there. Long story short, food horrible, service terrible, ambiance terrible. Disappointing Birthday Dinner at Sobe Restaurant - Never Again! On Saturday 8/2/25, I had my family and a few close friends join me at Sobe Restaurant for my birthday dinner and celebration. I truly regret choosing Sobe. Despite making a reservation, paying a 50% deposit, and agreeing to a group rate service fee, they were completely unprepared for us. We were split across three separate tables and they refused to seat us together, claiming they had to "accommodate other reservations." The manager's attitude was shockingly rude and dismissive--more like what you'd expect from a 1-star dive. She even told us, "You didn't say you wanted to sit together." Statements like "We're trying to accommodate you" made it sound as if they were doing us a personal favor rather than honoring what we booked and paid for. Ironically, the food selection was better on days we've come without a reservation. To make matters worse, they had no event manager with any real customer service training. In fact, my cousin--who had to step in and help serve us--just happens to be a senior events director at a highly reputable hotel. The contrast in professionalism was embarrassing for Sobe. We ended up leaving right after dinner and continued the celebration at my home so the evening could end on a positive note as I had planned. Bottom line: Sobe Restaurant is not equipped to handle a group larger than 6-8 people without ruining your experience. If you value your special occasion, don't risk it--they will mess up your day! read more

$30!! Let me spell it now, THIRTY DOLLARS is what I paid to enter the RESTAURANT @6:15 on Friday evening. I was meeting a group of women there for dinner, and was told the $30 was a COVER CHARGE because they were having a band. Ordinarily I would've left, because I was going to spend money at the restaurant, not to hear the band. But, since the group I was a part of agreed to meet there, I paid my $30 and went in. I will say, the food was delicious. I got the wings and a caesar salad, but the service was painfully slow. It took 30 minutes to order and another 30 minutes to get my food. All the while, a full hour after I paid $30 for the band, the band still hadn't set up, weren't even in place. Then to add insult to injury, the manager (young Black woman, with waist-long hair) came to tell us that we would have to leave at 7:30pm because they had reservations coming. Remember I said, I didn't get my food until 7:15pm, an hour after arriving. When I left, at 8:00pm (because it took about 20 minutes to pay our $450 bill) the band that I paid $30 to hear, was still not on. Why they start requiring a cover charge @6pm for a band that doesn't start playing until 8:30pm is wild, disrespectful and greedy! This is no way to treat paying customers. Today was my Founders Day (Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha) and my line sisters and I choose Sobe because the vibes were always great when we were in college and it was very nostalgic for us. Food is usually on point and drinks are good. This wasn't unlike the usual. However, Sobe has live music and they charge for that experience (per usual and to be expected in our community) however Sobe charges $20 for women & $30 for men at 7PM until close because you get a live band. But if the band doesn't start playing until 9PM what am I paying for?? This is the thing that frustrates me about our community we love to take advantage.. I asked to speak to the manager just to ask about why they would charge money for a service patrons were not receiving. I was told by my server who was immediately frustrated with me after asking for a manager (even though I reassured her that I was not trying to be difficult or ask for a refund or complain) I simply wanted to understand what I was paying for. In this economy I don't see why I should have to shell out money for absolutely nothing. I was coming out with my line sisters and we always order food and lots of drinks and we tip well. I make sure of it because I've worked in the industry for a while and I think it's important to tip accordingly! Anywho I asked to speak to the owner or the restaurant and the server told me "actually the owner is here but he won't come out.." I looked at her with a bit of curiosity. She said no he won't. I said ok no problem would you mind if I speak to the manager? She said no problem and got the manager. The manager came over and let me know politely it's above her and she can't do anything about it but she does understand. I asked her if if I could speak to the owner about it and she told me the owner wasn't here. (A clear lie) because then we got interrupted by one of the ppl at my table. When she was done handling that she must've forgotten she told me the owner wasn't in because I then said "so can you please ask the owner if he will come out" and she said "one sec I will ask." Now whether the owner was there or not. You mislead me and lied. Never to return with the manager.... prince George's county restaurants really need to check their quality of service! This is exactly why the place was dead! Great music, good food great drinks....TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! and that exactly why SOME are stuck wondering why they can't break through to the next plateau. The devil is in the details. I was here for a pre-fix dinner last week. There were 20 of us and we were all over the place but our server Javon was outstanding. He was so attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. I ordered the fried chicken with Mac & greens. The chicken looked like pork chops but it was def a chicken breast. It was moist but the breading was too salty. The Mac was ok. I didn't taste the greens but others at the table seemed to like them. The music was bomb and the bartender was tending ok!! They gota do better with that cake selection though. Just based on drinks, service and the environment, this place is solid!! It's been around forever too. From the outside it really doesn't look like much... Just a giant building. But when you go inside, surprise -- the place looks quite classy! I have been for a handful of random occasions, such as catching up with a friend and a spontaneous karaoke night. From what I can tell, how crowded it gets really just depends on the night, I've seen both extremes. I typically sit at the bar, and I've been lucky to never have an issue grabbing the bartender, even when it gets packed. The happy hour is from Tuesday to Friday, 4-7... Sometimes, such as during that special karaoke, they had specials way after though. It's not the cheapest one... Beer is $5 and wine and cocktails are $8+. They're good though! The crowd is older, which fits the vibe of the spot. But if you're in the neighborhood, check it out -- I'll have to update when I finally have food. read more

I went to SoBe this past Friday for Oxon Hill Reunion, and my experience was beyond disappointing. It was my first time there, my girlfriend made a booth reservation in advance, confirmed it and even paid a deposit. When we arrived, the manager who I later found out was named Brandon, tried to increase the booth price after everything was already finalized. To make matters worse, we witnessed Brandon arguing loudly with another manager, whom turned out to be the General Manager. He was saying this was his family's business and that since the Oxon Hill crowd "wasn't their regular patrons," they needed to make more money that day. He also made the statement that it was his family's business as if she had no say! The GM was clearly trying to calm things down and said that wasn't how business should be handled, but the entire exchange happened right in the middle of the restaurant where everyone could see and hear. It was awkward and extremely unprofessional. The GM did eventually step in, assist us personally, and apologize for the behavior and I truly appreciated her professionalism. But honestly, the situation left a bad taste in my mouth. And speaking of taste, the prices were outrageous! A margarita with Don Julio Reposado was $30. I almost could've bought the bottle myself! For those prices, you expect high end service and atmosphere, not chaos and attitude. It's really disappointing to see a Black-owned business treat its guests this way, especially during a community event. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to SoBe or recommending it. Haven't been to this restaurant in a few years, but decided to check them out for brunch and was not disappointed. They opened up exactly at 11 and it wasn't crowded at all. We sat out the bar and listen to slow jams and talked for hours. The bartender was a lot of fun, and was very attentive to our table. The food was excellent, and they provided large portions. One of the better customer service experiences I've had in a while. I attended for Sunday brunch about an hour after their opening. The host let us know right away that they were understaffed for the day and this was the beginning of various hosts/servers communicating with us during our dining experience. Our waitress took about 10 minutes before greeting us which didn't feel long at all with the heads up of the host. Unfortunately, we dined on a day that only one chef showed up for work. The DMV is serious about brunch so there were definitely several groups and small parties already waiting. But the servers that showed up that day were friendly, energetic and constantly kept us in the loop on the status of our meal. It was my first time here but I got the sense that the workers cared about the experience of the guests. Now, about the food! Baaaybe would you think I was born in South because I take my grits seriously. And Sobe's has the best seafood and grits in the area if you ask me and it's not what I ordered. I almost ate my partners plate and ordered one to-go for myself but we just didn't have the time to wait. It was delicious! First off the information on the website was different than what was explained at the restaurant. This was the Mother's Day Brunch on Mother's Day. 1. On the website it said $25 for unlimited mimosas, but it was $30 and everyone at the table had to purchase it. 2. The website said gratuity was automatically added to parties of 6 or more, but it was actually all checks. 3. The service was terrible, we had to find our waitress and ask for plates and water. 4. The staff arrived at 11am, which was the same time as our reservations and had to wait almost 30 mins to be seated. 5.The servers did not speak English and could not answer any questions regarding the food, nor did they have signs out telling you what you were eating. 6. You get two hours to eat your meal, but it took 30 mins to be seated and the DJ got on the mic at 12:30 and gave the last call for the buffet. 7. I just had a dinner party for 20 people there & a few extra people decided to show up outside of my contract & the hostess really told me that all tables were booked close to us and they didn't fill up not once during the duration we dined there from 6-9pm. also, our waitress serviced us good all by herself for 24 guest smh and the manager or investor guy stood by her watched and didn't offer her not one hand smh... unbelievable .. my family and friends enjoyed ourselves overall far as food, but we were a little tight in space and spent over $1500 in there to have to deal with that pettiness of asking to book another table close by to be more comfortable... I really, really wanted to like this place. It's close to home, and very cute inside. It's also spacious, which is a major key during these times of Covid. I went on a Wednesday evening for happy hour. I got there around 5:40pm. Maybe they were short staffed because it was a Wednesday, but service was extremely slow. There was one bartender and our waiter. I did see about two other employees walking around, but I don't know what their role was. They allow you to seat yourself, so I sat at a booth. Our waiter didn't come over until at least 6pm. My friend and I ordered drinks. She ordered a simple mixed drink and I ordered a Prosecco. The drinks took at least another 15 minutes, and the waiter took our food order after he delivered the drinks. I ordered appetizers: fried calamari and lobster mac & cheese. The calamari wasn't terrible, but it could've been crispier. And I didn't like the sauce it came with. I told the waiter and he brought me over 2 other sauce options, which was nice of him. The lobster mac & cheese was entirely too cheesy (and I love cheese). It almost looked like a cheese soup. And there was one chunk of lobster in the middle of the whole thing. My friend ordered the crab cake sandwich and she said it wasn't that good. My experience here left much to be desired. Oh you may notice that everything came out in plastic containers. I didn't inquire, but I assumed it was a Covid precaution. read more
