Nothing special. Fries are from a bag. The menu reads the Buffalo wings are "their take" on Buffalo wings, but it's not - the sauce is straight out of a bottle. My bacon on my BLT was also burnt so that was pretty lame. The bartender was very nice and brought me more bacon when asked. If you're looking for something unique or special, this isn't your place. Nice dive bar up by the zoo! It's a very chill spot but has lots of seating (a very cute window spot) and is a great place to go watch sports or to go if you have a bigger group. They have cheap beer but also good draft options. We got a bucket of coors banquet for $16, and you get five of them so pretty killer deal. I was with a friend group of six hanging out In Cleveland Park when the beer drinkers decided we should check out Nanny O'Brien's. It looks like a typical neighborhood Irish bar, very unassuming. I try to stick to a basic as possible food order in these types of establishments since I know most people come here for the beer...not the food. So one of my friends and I ordered wings and tots and the others in our group ordered sandwiches. On their menu they boast that their wings are their most " popular" item so why not! Wellll...popular they may be but tasty they are not. They weren't even edible. They were obviously old and refried since they were cold and dry. My friend and I aren't big on returning food in restaurants unless it's absolutely necessary but we had no choice. Our bartender assured us he would have the kitchen make a fresh order. Well they did and they were still dry so neither one of us could eat the new batch either. On a better note, the tots with the addition of Cajun spice were fired nice and crispy. Also I had a nice refreshing Norse IPA. My friends who ordered sandwiches were fine with their food. So I'm glad at least they were satisfied with what they ordered. A nice place to grab a bite, an Irish beer, and maybe some whisky. I really enjoy the atmosphere, it definitely feels like the perfect place to get a Guinness. This place is a solid 3.5 out of 5, I feel bad having to give it 3 stars. The food is standard but nothing amazing, I will give a shout out to how crispy their tots are though. Also the servers are always pretty nice. I think for the price, I can get better food. So, I can't really justify anything below a 4 for Nanny's. After living and growing up just up the street for years, i'd never been to Nanny's until my fiancee/partner moved here for her second year of grad school and became my mom's roommate. We've hit up Nanny's a few times now, the first just for drinks and had a good time, and last night for dinner. We started with an Aslin beer and another local brewery's Stouty Mc StoutFace. We liked both a lot. After a little bit of a wait, when our drinks were mostly gone, we placed an order of the Reuben and C.P.B.L.T. We really liked both, with the latter tasting very fresh and the tater tots being nice a crispy. My Reuben was very nice, one of the better ones i've had for sure, but it also came apart a smidge too easily. A few bites led to me tugging out more of the meat and such than i'd have liked, but that's a very minor quibble. Everything was very tasty. The only other minor quibble is the bartender/server who helped us was definitely super busy so it was a bit slow, hence the comment earlier about the smidge of a wait, but honestly that was maybe the box standard 10 minutes or so. So it's really a non-issue. Nanny's is a great space with good bar food. Strong recommend. read more

However, the bar tender took a while to get our drinks and almost seemed annoyed we were there. About 10 minutes later, we witnessed him storming into the bar and YELLING at a customer. He appeared drunk, or so it seemed, and made a scene at the bar and yelling about people being band from the bar. They are quietly the best wings in town, especially the bourbon street variety. Another fave I have discovered over the years is the onion rings. They pair the rings with a ranch dressing that is made in house (how cool is that?), and the quality is outstanding. The beers continue to rotate, too, with a large selection of drafts, cans, and bottles to choose from, so you'll find something you like. Tldr; The food was good, the cleanliness was to be desired. Let's start with the bad. The server was very considerate and brought out small plates for the table to share. But each plate appeared to have salt (maybe sugar) sprinkled on it. I'm guessing a shaker was dropped near the stack and got on the plates and it would've been an easy clean if it had been noticed. Not that big of a deal but a yellow flag. And then I unwrapped my silverware. The fork had some dried food on it. I'm guessing they have an industrial dishwasher so hopefully the food was sanitize. I picked it off and cleaned it myself but did not ask the waiter for another (it looked like he was the only one manning the lunch rush). The good. The food was pretty decent. Simple fare, nothing extravagant, and it hit the spot. Our group was a mix of ages and there was something for everyone. What we got: Quesadilla - 4* comes with pico de gallo & sour cream. The quesadilla has onions in it to bring it to the next level. Chicken tenders - 3* nothing special here. Felt a little crunchier than I'd want but the kiddos enjoyed them well enough. They came with fries and a honey mustard dipping sauce. Mac & cheese - 4* it hit the spot! We got the side which was a decent portion. Kiddos loved it and so did the adults who got to try it. Reuben - 3* I've had better. The meat felt a bit tougher and the sauerkraut was on the lighter side but it was filling. Sandwiches comes with a side of your choice. Chili - 4* it was delicious and had a bit of a kick to it. It comes with tortilla chips which we used to scoop out and eat the chili. Burger - unknown stars. The food was decent- wings had a good flavor (we had honey bbq), those who ate the pickles liked that they were fried spears, and the tots were crispy. I took dinner to go- chili mac and cheese, and the fish and chips. The chili mac and cheese was extremely tiny- it was served in a pint sized take out container and if i recall it was 15 dollars! The quality didn't justify the price either- it would surprise me if both/either the mac and cheese or the chili were made in house. It wasn't very good. I was told the fish and chips tasted good at least, but again the portion was super small. For over 30 bucks (+ tax and tip) there is no way I'll order an actual meal there, for that price! read more

My fiancée's BLT arrived sporting some very burnt bacon. Like, I don't even understand how the kitchen considered serving that bacon. My Buffalo wings came out dry and unsauced. Both of these shortcomings were addressed when we asked the bartender for help. The wings, however, were overdone and dry. The fries were clearly from a bag. Overall just...not impressed at all. A couple years ago one of my best friends mentioned there was a bar he wanted to go to mainly because the broadcast the New York Giants games here. A so called "giants bar". We went for the panthers and giants game that year, and honestly it was a great experience. As a Redskins fan, I hesitated at the idea, but it's not like I thought at all. They have all fans come in and it's a respectful atmosphere. I love the food here, I've gotten wings here the last few times. The hot dog and bratwurst- my absolute favorite. I love being able to watch a game, grab a beer and have some good stadium kind of food. Also, they have funnel cake fries. It was a little over fried this time I came, so it came out more crunchy rather than fluffy and crispy. But I was kind of a few drinks in so I still ended up clearing it. PARKING IS TOUGH HERE. Review only on the takeout. My boyfriend was craving wings last night and said he really liked these when he had them awhile back, although Yelp was giving me mixed reviews. I decided to give in as I couldn't think of anything better close by and did not want to cook. We ordered 16 wings, half hot and half thai chili with a side of fries. Nanny O'Briens is a 4 minute walk from out place so pickup to home was quick and not many complaints on temperature. Although, neither the fries or wings were 'hot' when opening the dishes. Fries: I didn't expect much from the fries but had to really layer on the salt. Wings: Both flavors had minimal sauce stuck on to them and couldn't grab much of the flavor. The food didn't suck but it wasn't worth $30. I will look elsewhere and would consider stopping in for a beer but that's about it. read more
