All the authentic Italian accents in the world cannot mask a sub-par kitchen and ingredients... 2. Nor can a pretty setting 3. Or clean dishes 4. Or cold tap water in a glass bottle... All of which were nice. Now, for the FOOD. A. Garlic bread. Store bought crap bread that turned silly gross as it cooled. Your mom made better garlic bread in a microwave. $6.00 B. Wilted lettuce and over-dressed salad. $7.00...still best thing I ate. C. Son had cheese pizza. I have personally made better from trader joes pizza dough. Pretty much a cracker crust with decent mozzarella and too much sauce. D. The special was a childhood favorite. Lasagna...aaand, thanks for ruining my childhood. I do not know what they were thinking when they presented the slab of meat sauce covered crap but it was gross. Like Vegas buffet gross. If you're in Sausalito and have time to spare (and craving some Italian food), you should make the trek to Aurora's. Sausalito is stunning, especially when the water is calm and the weather is great, it's just breathtaking, but their restaurants with views are only decent. Aurora's is a bit of a way from the harbor, but on a pleasant day, it's a gorgeous walk. You'll be greeted by friendly servers and when you're seated, they'll bring you some bread. Try not to consume too much. Aurora's portions are hearty. Our party ordered the cioppino, linguine with clams, special of the day: fish dish which I don't recall, pasta pomodoro, gnocchi, steak, pizza, risotto and ALL of it was good. Even the steak! In terms of price, they're really comparable to all the Italian restaurants near downtown but the food is significantly better. If you're driving to Sausalitpo, parking in the area won't be difficult seeing as it's in a bit of a residential area. After your meal, walk back to shore and enjoy the ocean view or the multi million homes. Whatever floats your boat. read more

I wanted to go somewhere different with my husband and remembered this out of the way restaurant in Sausalito. As I walked in, it seemed different. Turns out it is. No longer Cacciucco, but now Aurora. I was immediately welcomed and given a nice table for two. As I waited for my husband, I enjoyed a glass of Zin and ordered the bruschetta. Wine and beer bar only, but a nice selection of Italian and California wines. The bruschetta was delicious and fresh with tomatoes,basil,olive oil on warm toasts. I had the Aurora salad....very good with greens, raisins, and Gorgonzola cheese. My husband enjoyed the pasta tubes in a creamy sundried tomatoe sauce with chicken. I loved my veal scaloppini in a wine sauce and mushrooms. The accompanying potatoes and asparagus where done to perfection. Well after all the good food, I had to try a dessert. The chocolate torte with a scoop of vanilla ice cream...really good. Everyone is welcomed at this hidden gem. Children had pizza and every age group was present. This restaurant is in one large room so T.V. and bar are within view (not a dark, romantic spot for lovers). I was glad to see the repeat of a S.F.Giants game as they won, Giants 5 Cardinals 4!! We arrived at 7:30pm and didn't leave until almost 10pm.... 2.5 hours of my life I'll never get back. EXTREMELY slow service & under staffed. We didn't even get water for 30 minutes and the bread didn't arrive until we were almost done with our dinner. Seafood pasta was totally over cooked. The shrimp was so hard, we couldn't even cut the shrimp with a fork and had difficulty cutting through it with the knife.... very disappointed. read more

I just moved up the street from this spot and Cesar has taken very very good care of me since the first day I wandered over there! Their lasagna is absolutely amazing! And as an avid cook myself, who prides herself in her lasagna making skills, I'd have to say it's one of the best lasagnas I have ever tasted. (And I've been to Italy 3 times!) It is good Italian food at reasonable prices (for Sauslalito), but the true selling point is it's location. In walking distance to downtown Sausalito, but just off the beaten path enough to be quiet and a little less pricey then similar options down the street. My favorites are the pasta bolognese and the seafood pescatore. My husband prefers their homemade meat ravioli. The areas they could do better. Prices are still high, so things should be cooked properly. The seafood piscatore is my favorite dish, though I have had a gritty muscle, and the shrimp have consistently been overcooked. The rest of the seafood in it is perfect, especially the salmon. Overall it's delicious, these are just the areas it could use improving. Also, their desserts are not great, so I would skip those here and go elsewhere for dessert. Otherwise a nice, quiet, tasty Italian restaurant in an outstanding location. After dinner walk 10 minutes along the Bay, and you have seen some of the most beautiful views the SF Bay has to offer. read more

My BF and I stopped by for dinner on your bike ride from Union Square to Sausalito. Yes, it was a beautiful bike ride but I complaint all the way there about how cold it was lol. My poor boo had to listen to me complain for hours. Aurora Ristorante is a beautiful restaurant. Small but open. I love the windows all around the restaurant and what a gorgeous view of the ocean. They do not know what Italian food is not service! We arrive and the waiter was kind of upset, it took few minutes before someone acknowledged us and got us a table. The service was slow, seemed to have relatives of the employees dinning in and were more attentive to them. Finally the food came in after a long wait and my Lasagna was so over cooked that you couldn't identify the pasta from any other layer, it was a Sloppy Joes with Italian store bought sauce and part of it was cold!. My husband's ordered chicken Parmesiana and the sliver of chicken was so small, like I 1/4 of chicken Breast. So bad and so expensive for what it was. The food was pretty good. But I've definitely had better. The service? The server was bad, the server-assistant was good. The Server got one of our orders wrong and then argued about it, ignored our request for additional plates (actually, he just disappeared until dessert), and refused to acknowledge us as we left. If the server hadn't automatically tipped himself for our table of 4 adults and 5 children (ages ranging from 3 to 13), he surely would have gotten a lot less than the 18% he gave himself! All that grief for a $220 bill....nooooooooo, thank you! I wish parking had been available at our first-choice: the Napa Valley Burger Company on Bridgeway. Terrible experience all around -- a cookie-cutter Italian restaurant with bland food and not-fresh ingredients. Service: We were greeted with a "I'm gonna need a minute." The dining room (though small -- less than 20 tables) was never full, but the waitstaff (and manager) were running around like crazy. Our waiter was slow to bring things out, distracted while taking our order, and more than a little condescending. I may be wearing bike shorts and a jersey, but I know what pappardelle is, grazie. Food: We shared four dishes: bruschetta, caprese salad, a special risotto and prosciutto de parma pizza. The bruschetta was nothing special -- store-bought bread, tomato, and olive oil. The mozzarella on the caprese (like the bread) was not freshly made, and it too was sub-par. The main courses were where meh turned even worse. The risotto appeared to be (and tasted like) pre-cooked rice that was tossed with sauce in a pan for a few minutes. The pizza had bland crust and blah sauce; the parmesan was far too mild and the prosciutto had clearly been sitting around a bit too long. This is a great space and I'm sure something good will go in here eventually. Unfortunately, Aurora is not it. read more

I tried the margarita and pepperoni pizzas. I can't say it was the best I have ever had, but I guess it's not the worst either. I think I would have liked a Digiorno better. Sorry Aurora. The spaghetti with the Calabrian chilli is my favorite, it's delicious time and time again. I've had the petrale sole picatta and thought it was a little too saucy, but I'm not a fan of sauces. If you are, you'll like this dish. The salad choices are a bit too limited -- they don't have any simple salads -- they're all too involved with too many things in them, so I don't get salad here, which is kind of lame. An arugula salad with a simple olive oil dressing would be ideal. I've heard the pizza is outstanding, but I've yet to try. The side order of sauteed mushrooms is terrific. The wine selection by the glass is varied and the staff are all very friendly. Definitely worth a try. The guy who wrote that if you think this is Italian food then buy your pizza at Costco clearly doesn't get it. read more

We were at loose ends one night and in the mood to try something new here in our little town of Sausalito. Fully knowing that most food establishments here are pretty bad, we bravely drove down the hill to Aurora. It's never a good sign when, on a Saturday night, there are only two tables occupied at 7:30 in a medium-sized restaurant. But we were committed to the research and saw it through. I guess there must be people who think this quality of Italian food is acceptable, otherwise how could Aurora stay in business? Is it horrible? No, but it's not what you could call good either. Our server was very sweet, no complaints there. But after the first mouthful we both had the same look on our faces. We struggled to eat a bit of the main course, paid the bill and left quickly. I don't understand how, with so many wealthy people living here, we can't have some decent restaurants. Sure, Sushi Ran is great, but you can't eat there all the time. I guess for now we'll continue to cross the bridge for a decent meal out. read more

Every time I am in Sausalito this is my go to place! Ten times better then the tourist spots right on the water that you wait way too long to get a table at and pay double the price. The restaurant is classic Italian and I LOVE the pizza here, some of the best pizza I have ever had! The staff are always very friendly and accommodating. I love eating here and I will continue to eat here when I visit and I highly recommend stopping here and getting one of their pizzas and tiramisu! read more

So so good! Came to celebrate my birthday dinner. Some of the best food we had on our SF trip. It was about a 10 minute walk from the ferry. It was a small restaurant and the staff was very attentive and it seemed like they truly wanted everyone to have a good meal. I got the chicken parm which came with mashed potatoes and veggies. It was some of the best I've ever had. My boyfriend got the ravioli with Alfredo sauce.. so good. The creme brûlée was SO good! Prices were very reasonable. I've been there 2 time now . The first time was on valentines , I went with my partner has a great dinner on the outside patio. The food was wonderful the service was good and fast that night . We were in SF last Sunday and decided to take some friends with us to eat an early dinner . We went around 4pm got seated quickly. There was another family In The restaurant , they gave us menus and didn't come back until about 5-10 min later we were waiting for them to ask what we would like to order to drink. They didn't they asked what we had decided on , and we ordered our food and then asked for our drinks. The server didn't even ask. Then we asked for bread because normally I believe they just give you bread but it took 10 min to get bread before our dinner. He was talking to the family in the table next to us , not really giving us good customer service while he was going above and beyond for the family. They brought out our plates and finally brought the bread . I have never had such bad service . I thought they would be more attentive and they were nothing like the first time we went there. They hardly attended us . We then wanted to order tiramisu for desert's and they told us " we just sold the last tiramisu to the the family next to you guys sorry" and then walked away and giggled. Like what ??? They close @9pm and they ran out @4 of tiramisu I was shocked. not sure if we got different treatment due to us being younger ? Early 20's maybe thought we wouldn't tip well but the service we got was terrible won't be going back again. read more

Aurora did a great job last night accommodating our group of 14. Many had come from the city, so the ample parking in the little shopping center they're in was handy. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the food good and inexpensive. It's not the most cutting edge cuisine for sure, but it's pretty good. The low point was the bruschetta, the bread was charred and overall the dish was kind of a fail. Everyone enjoyed their salads, the soup, a carrot/potato puree was DELICIOUS, and the entree I had of spinach ravioli was quite good too. A nice neighborhood, no fuss place. read more

I live across the street from this place, and it's all I can do to keep from coming here every single night for a glass of wine, delicious homemade lasagna, and tiramisu. The staff here treat me like family, even greeting me with a hug on my way home from work to brighten my day. And on Sundays they have live accordion music! Whenever we have visitors or a big group, we shun the overpriced touristy spots to demonstrate that even in Sausalito, you can get a delicious hearty meal for a reasonable price - thanks to Shawn, Saul, Elisandro, Cesar, and the rest of this wonderful establishment. From a gruff/unintelligible greeting upon entry to being seated at a table with 3 chairs (for a party of 4) to the cage fighting on the TV above the bar....we didn't even give the food a chance as we exited the premises. read more

We visited here after a friend recommended we eat in the town after visiting the Golden Gate Bridge. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Being Italian and from NYC there is always a bias but the food was excellent. The mozzarella caprese tasted better than some I have had back home. Our pasta dishes came out piping hot and were tasty. Service getting the food was very quick. This place is worth stopping at even though being in the start of town most people totally pass by as its in a mostly residential area. read more

This review is for their pizza. We chose a pizza that was a little different because it had mixed greens on it like salad, and it was interesting but we have tasted better pizza before. Just the little things like how well made the dough is will give great points, and we feel like the pizza was what it was lacking in, and I think a little bit of the flavor as well. It was too much. What really gets me is the interior design. I think everything does not match with each other and the place doesn't at all looks romantic. It's probably a design of the culture but even then, I felt uncomfortable in there. Bright yellow napkins? and..well, I'm just going to rant from here but it's unfortunate, the area and the outside of the restaurant looked like it could've been really good. We eat here everytime we are in town. Bart the manager is wonderful. We also bring our Photo safari groups we lead of 20 plus in at least 4-5 times a year. Every person always compliments us on our choice of dining. Very reasonable prices for the quality you get. LOVE their Lasanga! The good: service and the accents-whether they were real or not The bad: the lasagna-very bland-tasted like store bought frozen lasanga-definitely avoid it. Came here for lunch on a Friday with my bf. We split the house salad. Very toast spring greens, raisins, and walnuts with a bit of gonzola cheese and a light dressing. I had Bolgese pasta and bf that the sole special. Both were delish. We had to beg for bread. The bread was nothing to get excited over, although the balsamic and olive oil were decent.
