Took full advantage of one of those rare, crystal clear, and warm San Francisco days and jumped on the ferry to Sausalito. The ~30 minute ride over was half the fun. Warm sun, salty breeze, that glittering bay doing its thing. We stepped off the boat and walked straight into a small handmade vendor fair, plus an unofficial dog parade. Golden retrievers, tiny fluff balls, chill older pups all living their best lives. After wandering through the booths and poking around the cute little shops, we started the serious business of finding food and drinks that were dog friendly. Venice Gourmet basically made the decision for us. The harbor view alone is worth sitting down for but the charcuterie and champagne sealed it. We grabbed a table outside, ordered a spread, and just slowed down for a minute. Good snacks, good bubbles, boats drifting by, and great company. Easy day trip. Easy win. we stopped by this restaurant for a quick lunch. I had the Italian sandwich in sourdough bread and my husband had the Italian meatball sandwich. Both sandwiches were excellent. We also had a side of gigantic beans from their antipasto section. It was very good as well. We were there on a Saturday at around 3 PM and every single table was full, however, people wear not lingering after their meal and it did not take long to get a table. You need to order yourself first at the counter and then they will call your number and then you can get your food from the counter and take it to your table. They have tables inside and outside. We've stopped here many times in the past, but keep forgetting to write great reviews. We stopped here last week while we were riding our bike bikes from the city into Sausalito. This location was great for us to take a break, catch our breath and order the Italian House special sandwich, along with a side of potato salad. The outdoor seating was great for us to lock our bikes up and take the views from Sausalito of the city. The staff are always so nice and were very quick to make our lunch. Food quality is top notch but service is spotty. Chinese Chicken salad Meat is tender and fresh, but overall too saucy. Chicken tastes fresh and savory. San Francisco Club Roast beef, cheddar, lettuce, red onion, tomato on choice of bread. Amazingly (because it doesn't happen often in a deli like this) the beef is medium rare with hefty portion size. Mozz Tomato salad This is one of my favorite combo side dishes - they made theirs fresh, juicy and super delicious. Served nice and chilled. On a hot day, that's important because my main concern is whether they keep it cool/refrigerated. Service is slow, spotty and disorganized. After waiting under the "Order Here" sign for a good 5 minutes, one of their staff told me I have to order from the side cashier, where there were already three people In line. Then they overcharged me an extra side dish that I did not order. Then later on, I saw them taking orders under the "Order Here" sign again. Sigh. Ordering system is slightly disorganized (you essentially walk up to the counter, staff ignore you, you think you're in the wrong place, then someone acknowledges you to redirect you to the ordering counter but doesn't take your order), but the food is great. We stopped by the smaller pizzeria side of this business since the deli/store was too crowded. My husband just wanted drinks, and my son and I couldn't resist the sliced pepperoni pizza. The pizza slices were huge and filled a medium sized to-go box. The pepperoni was greasy. Tasty though, with perfectly crispy thin dough. 2 huge slices, 2 canned sodas, and a small tip came out to $21. We thought it would cost more since it's in such a busy touristy spot. It's more a vegetable soup broth consistency, but it's just as enjoyable. I came in on a Saturday in November and there wasn't any line to order, so I was able to order quickly and my food came out shortly after. We locked our bikes a little ways down the street and headed to the deli. We ordered at the counter and they gave us a number. We walked around the shop to look at all the fun snacks, paid at the side counter, and then waited a few more minutes for our sandwiches. As a consumer, I feel as the board should be changed as me and my friend who had shared it acknowledged that there board said there was Brie and Swiss cheese available, which could easily be added to the board instead of it being filled with fruits and only having cheddar cheese to balance out with the meat presented. I enjoy the overall interior and selection of European and American snacks being sold within the establishment and thought it was terrific how diverse the music within the Deli was. One moment, it would be island music, and another would be a completely different genre. It made eating indoors instead of outside in the beautiful sun next to the Bay a worthy experience. I hope the description of the Cheese board gets updated! It was corrected to "cheese and fruit board" on Yelp, but it's still misleading because there was a variety of meat and fruits, but only one type of cheese! Our Muir Woods tour bus stopped in Sausalito on our way back and many of us went to this deli for a late lunch. My brother and I split the Italian special and the pesto chicken. Both were great but the standout was the pesto chicken! I could eat this every day, it was that good. The bread that they used was also some of the best sourdough I've ever had! Their menu has an array of different items ranging from cold cut sandwiches to hot sandwiches. Pizza, salads and other items.
