    Sausalito Turkey Sandwich
    Richard W.

Food quality is top notch but service is spotty. Chinese Chicken salad Meat is tender and fresh, but overall too saucy. Chicken tastes fresh and savory. San Francisco Club Roast beef, cheddar, lettuce, red onion, tomato on choice of bread. Amazingly (because it doesn't happen often in a deli like this) the beef is medium rare with hefty portion size. Mozz Tomato salad This is one of my favorite combo side dishes - they made theirs fresh, juicy and super delicious. Served nice and chilled. On a hot day, that's important because my main concern is whether they keep it cool/refrigerated. Service is slow, spotty and disorganized. After waiting under the "Order Here" sign for a good 5 minutes, one of their staff told me I have to order from the side cashier, where there were already three people In line. Then they overcharged me an extra side dish that I did not order. Then later on, I saw them taking orders under the "Order Here" sign again. Sigh. Definitely never a good start to an experience you're hoping to be a pleasant one. Fortunately, food quality is high enough to keep the rating above average. That's all...

I decided to get lunch here while working in Sausalito. The ladies behind the counter were nice and the service was super quick. Many options for vegetarian folks and meat eaters alike. They put a twist on their sandwiches that makes them really special. Sandwich tasted fresh, the ingredients really spoke for themselves. Alittle more expensive than usual for me but worth trying atleast once. There's also alittle market inside full of wine, candy, cold drinks and more. Worth a stop in if you find yourself in the area.

Ordering system is slightly disorganized (you essentially walk up to the counter, staff ignore you, you think you're in the wrong place, then someone acknowledges you to redirect you to the ordering counter but doesn't take your order), but the food is great. I got a clam chowder cup (they were out of bread bowls unfortunately), but it was delicious and perfect for a cold rainy day: thick, piping hot, and super savory. Would definitely come again to try their sandwiches! Appreciate that they have a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating too, and the casual atmosphere means a table is bound to clear out by the time you're done ordering and pick up your food.

This place was just what we needed to recharge after a beautiful hike. The restaurant was lively and I like how there is fresh cuts of meat in the window. I ordered an Italian House Sandwich on Dutch Crunch bread it was delicious. I admire how the bread has a just the right amount of thickness to absorb the layer sauce in each bite. The service was quick and easy with an order in one place and pay at the next station.

While enjoying an afternoon is Sausalito, we stumbled upon the Venice Gourmet. It is nothing fancy on the interior, but the food was great. There were a variety of sandwiches and other items to choose from. You order at the counter, and then there are a few tables to sit at, or you can take lunch to go. We dined in, and very much enjoyed our sandwiches. I had the California club, and my daughter had pastrami and Swiss. The sandwiches were large and very satisfying. The freshly baked sourdough bread was fantastic!

$6.50 per slice of pepperoni pizza

We stopped by the smaller pizzeria side of this business since the deli/store was too crowded. My husband just wanted drinks, and my son and I couldn't resist the sliced pepperoni pizza. The pizza slices were huge and filled a medium sized to-go box. The pepperoni was greasy. Tasty though, with perfectly crispy thin dough. 2 huge slices, 2 canned sodas, and a small tip came out to $21. We thought it would cost more since it's in such a busy touristy spot. The cashier didn't greet us, just talked to someone away from the register for a few minutes. He didn't smile or say a word besides the total. Now I wish I lowered the tip even more. I would've given 4 stars if they had better service.

Couldn't decide what to eat in Sausalito, given the limited dining options in this picturesque seaside town, so I dropped in for a cup of clam chowder. It's essentially an Italian market selling grocery and sandwiches...and clam chowder (not very Italian LOL). Also not very Italian were the Spanish-speaking staff and the loud Latin music blasting from the speakers (I was hoping for some Venetian gondola songs played on a mandolin.) The clam chowder was not bad, a bit too watery for my liking. The ocean view was amazing. Old Fisherman Grotto in Monterey still has my vote for the best clam chowder.

Good place to get tomato soup to warm up by the waters in Sausalito. I got the tomato soup cup (price: $8.95, including tax (9.25%): $9.78) and it was very delicious. They added for some courteous and cheese on top which was a nice touch. This tomato soup is not as creamy as other ones I've had. It's more a vegetable soup broth consistency, but it's just as enjoyable. I came in on a Saturday in November and there wasn't any line to order, so I was able to order quickly and my food came out shortly after. Since there wasn't that many people I managed to get a table and had a nice view of the Sausalito waters! The inside feels like a speciality Italian grocery store. It reminds me of another Italian grocery/sandwich shop I used to visit and it feels very cozy. They have a counter where you can order food like sandwiches, salads, and soups. They have many tables inside as well as outside. Parking: It was a bit difficult to find parking in Sausalito downtown, since many of the lots were full. We managed to get a spot after another car pulled out. It was a paid lot (through ParkMobile I believe).

After visiting the bridge, we decided to continue our bike ride to Sausalito. It's such a cute spot with so many places to eat and this place seemed pretty popular so we decided to give it a go. We locked our bikes a little ways down the street and headed to the deli. We ordered at the counter and they gave us a number. We walked around the shop to look at all the fun snacks, paid at the side counter, and then waited a few more minutes for our sandwiches. There are a few tables inside but we lucked out and grabbed one of the tables outside. I tried the Sausalito turkey sandwich on a sourdough roll which hit the spot. Fresh and filling. Perfect fuel for the bike ride back to San Francisco.

Delicious garden salad with avocado and BBQ tri-tip sandwich were great. Nice weather to sit outside and enjoy our lunch.

We were in the area hoping to get some fresh coastal air and looking for something simple and non-complicated to eat like a sandwich. This was exactly what I needed. This old school deli has an entire wall of refrigerators with every type of drink that fits your needs -water, juices, soda, beer, wine, and everything in between. There are plenty of sandwich options and plenty of refrigerated side dishes available to go with them. The owners were lovely (and patient). My daughter ordered a reuben on dark rye. I ordered pastrami on sliced sourdough. We each took half of the other's and shared a bag of air baked Kettle chips. We initially thought we would take our sandwiches to go and find a spot to eat them on a bench along the water side. However, there were several tables in the back, both indoor and outdoor in the garden. It was a perfect sunny, mild day and it was not terribly busy during this time, so we chose to enjoy our sandwiches there on a table next to open French doors. Five stars for food, service, and location. I'm always happy to support a small, local

It's hard to find sandwiches with real homemade meats and lots of veggies and homemade sauces that aren't mustard or Russian dressing. I also love the Twerks, which is the delicious veggie topping combo you can get on your sandwiches: Spinach, Arugula, Cucumber, Carrots, Radish, Beets, Green Sprouts & Bean Sprouts, Salt, Fresh Lemon, Pepper, Roasted Garlic and Roasted Red Bell Pepper Sauces. I usually get the turkey pesto melt with the twerks, and it's a top five sandwich. I dream about it. Some of Good Earth's items are on the super pricy side, but some are also reasonable. The deli and bakery items are usually pretty good. This was the first place I ever found Sjaak's chocolate. Sadly, they no longer exist, but I used to always stop by for their Hearts of Cherry after hiking around Mt Tam. Today I stopped by for whatever looked good enough to buy, which happened to be a pesto chicken calzone from the hot deli case, a slice of chocolate cake that looked too good to be $5, some roma tomatoes, and a blueberry banana water. The pesto chicken calzone had decent flavor, but it literally had like half a cup of grilled onions on it. Like, there was an entire opaque layer of grilled onion. Adding onions to compensate for less meat is one of the oldest Italian tricks in the book, and is the basis of many great recipes. In this case, it was a little much. Also, the crust didn't have any flavor, but for $10, for this area, it wasn't bad. The chocolate cake was the worst chocolate cake I've ever had in my life. It should have been labeled "iced biscotti," because that's about how dry it was. After a few bites, I had to double check to make sure I didn't accidentally grab an expired piece. It was so dry!! Okay, so, the cake was a mistake, but everything else was good. Their fresh deli pizzas looked AMAZING, but I did not take one home. Overall, the store is very clean, well lit, and merchandised nicely. My only issue is the twinkie sized stall in the ladies room, with a door that opens inward, trapping anyone who is greater than four inches in diameter between the toilet and the door. Sometimes you seriously have to wonder what kind of psychopath designed women's public restrooms. It's like, if you are larger than an actual Barbie doll, good luck getting in and out without touching the public toilet! So, I actually made two separate purchases. First, I purchased the calzone, and took it back to my car to eat. Noticing that I was surrounded by Teslas and eating disorders, I put up my sunshades so that I could eat in peace, without becoming a TikTok reel. After I finished eating, as I was lowering my sunshade, I caught the man parked next to me in the act of taking a video of me, anyway! My car is ugly enough to make a classist person assume that I'm a homeless person, which I'm sure is what happened in this case. Maybe he was planning to post it on social media as an example of how homeless people were ruining his life. When he saw a nicely dressed woman in a brand new, pretty dress (me) he looked shocked. I looked back and forth between him and his phone which was pointed at me, and glared. He lowered the phone and stared at me, wide eyed and jaw dropped, as if he wanted to explain. I glared at him as hard as I could. Classist rich people harass me like this all the time. As a formerly homeless person, I know that in reality, there's no such thing as "looking homeless." People who "look homeless" are usually housed and struggling with mental health issues, while homeless people who live in shelters are usually very well-groomed. But tell that to the classist rich person who thinks it's funny to take videos of other people and post them on the internet to mock them. I wish it was illegal to do that, but it's not. So if I'm posted on "homeless people of Marin" or something, that's what's up, even though I'm very much housed and employed. A calzone with a side of classism. Not the store's fault. But irritating none the less.
