Quasi Italian. It's a well-run, well-trained, personable, direct wait staff. The food? Average by comparison to real Italian restaurants. The chef is experienced but the tastes are overly salted, sauces not clean, presentation feels like 1985, lacks a 21st century look. Which means fresh. Staff knows the menu but doesn't really, requiring our server to read from a paper slip. Drinks need updating as they lack personality. Clean place, nice exterior tables but lacking color. Flowers? The veal was tender and pasta had ok pesto. Nothing special. Maybe make the pesto at the table?! Wine by glass ok. Via Piccola is a casual, festive Italian restaurant located within Tiburon's strip mall. next to the Nugget grocery store. Plenty of shared parking, which is always a plus! Our party of three sat near the window, with a good view of the bar and several flatscreens showing the Warriors game. We tend to frequent Italian cuisine a bit more now that our 3yo is beginning to enjoy pasta, especially penne! Definitely recommend starting off with the roasted veggies samplers - you get vibrant, naturally-sweet eggplant, zucchini, peppers, and shrooms. (5 stars) For entrees, the sole with scalloped potato was awesome. Crispy outside, and so soft and lemony. (5 stars) We got the Chicken Piccata with a side of penne. Chicken was moist and they got the sauce right. Penne cooked al dente. Portion a bit small for dinner entree (4 stars). For dessert, I'd recommend Key Lime Pie (5 stars) for that sweet, wonderful cookie crust and nice balance of sweet and tart from the smooth filling. Stopped in for lunch. Plenty of free parking adjacent, no waiting for a table (at lunch), and the restaurant provides a pleasant, relaxed, clean experience. Service was excellent and attentive. Lunch specials were cannoli or a seafood salad. I opted for the former: light and tasty cannoli stuffed with a mix of ground chicken and beef short rib meat. It was delicious, if pricey by Midwest standards (this is Tiburon so, there is not an inexpensive place to eat or drink, lol). This review is for a takeout order. My friends wanted pizza but when I saw veal saltimbocca on the menu I knew I had to have it. It is one of my favorite Italian dishes but so few places serve it anymore, even in Italy. This was an absolutely stellar version! It was a very generous portion with the veal, ham and cheese in excellent balance and an amazing sauce. I had it with plain buttered noodles rather than the potato and vegetables that they normally serve and was very happy with that decision, since they were great to soak up the sauce. My friends were very happy with the pizza and the bite I had was good, though I prefer a super thin crust. I will definitely be back for the veal saltimbocca though! The highlight of our dinner was the salad verde. Caprese is perhaps best served in season, or in this case maybe not at all--tomatoes were mealy and came with a slab of bland mozzarella and pre-cut basil strips. Calamari was well prepared (lightly breaded, not oily or overly fried) but had little flavor and was served with shrimp sauce and a second red sauce rather than aioli. My husband ordered the chicken mediterreanea (kind of like an italian stir-fry). I ordered the chicken parmagiano. Basically, the food seemed low-quality, bland and lacking inspiration. We came here for dinner. I like the look inside and the romantic music that was playing (even though it is not Italian haha). A staff member patiently explained the specials. We decided to get their spaghetti rustico, fettuccine with scallops, and veal (the dish name escapes me sorry, but you can find it!) and finished the meals with their tiramisu, panna cotta, and key lime pie. I love the hand painted mural they have. The service was good and the food was ok. I had the veal saltimbocca which was cooked perfectly. It comes with mixed vegetables & potatoes. The sauce was a bit bland and after having this dish at Fradelizio's nothing comes close to their preparation and the flavor of their sauce. The carrot cake was delicious, but it is not made in house. It comes from "Sweet Things" next door. The old restaurant offered garlic and cheese bread, which I definitely miss. Really outdated ambience and smells quite old inside. The service was strange as well. The server kept coming over to us at some awkward times mid conversation and not really reading the table and when to come over or when not to come over. I get that this sounds like a strange criticism but maybe you had to be there lol. Food is very hit or miss. Of their dishes with the tortellini I really like but almost everything else I've tried is mediocre. Our party started with an order of the Caeser Salad and beet salad, each large enough to be shared and moved onto the moist and beautifully prepared swordfish, tender and delicious calamari steak, nicely flavored pasta tuttomare with a generous variety of seafood and tasty pasta carbonara that was not too heavy. After spending the afternoon in Sausalito on Memorial Day, we were having trouble finding a good spot to eat without any wait times - around 6pm. I decided to drive north to Via Piccola Trattoria after the mushroom ravioli peaked my interest. Although I did not see it on the menu online, I was happy to order the mushroom and chicken risotto instead. However, just my luck because the mushroom ravioli was the special of the day along with a steak dish. Of course I had to order the ravioli and it was amazing! The creamy sauce paired perfectly with the mushroom filling and the pasta shell was cooked to perfection. The veal saltimbocca was also very good but a bit too salty for my taste and not gamey at all. I recommend this spot if you're nearby and don't have a reservation at another place and don't want to wait. They have plenty of tables and can definitely accommodate large parties if needed. Have dined at Via Piccola on 4 other occasions and have had positive experiences. Booked it for husband's birthday dinner with son and his wife. We all ordered our meals, with our son ordering a steak medium rare. All of us were served, but the steak was almost well done and was sent back. Meanwhile, we slowly ate as it took a long while for a new steak to come out. When the new steak arrived, it was almost raw and inedible. Again, it was sent back to be cooked some more. When the steak finally arrived, the 3 of us were done with our meals and our son ate by himself. Surprised we were not even offered a courtesy discount for terrible service. This was the most disappointing dining experience we've ever had at Via Piccola and doubt we will be back. I recently recommended Via Piccola to friends, but moving forward, won't make any more recommendations to dine there. read more

We stopped by for lunch here on a weekend after the Muir woods hike and so glad we did. They have traditional Italian ambience inside and also have decent seating outside though it directly faces the parking lot/cars. The staff here is friendly. We got the chicken parmigiana, marsala and Mediterranean. They all were tasty though the parmigiana was the most tender and warm. For kids they were able to provide us with half portion of pastas and were able to also make us a custom Alfredo sauce which is not on their menu. The best items though were the amAzing desserts. The crème brûlée is one of their best we have had And also the chocolate mouse tart was fantastic. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a family! read more

* RACIST RESTAURANT * My non-white, immigrant mom checked in for our table on a Saturday night. When she told the host we have 6:15pm reservations, the host completely ignored her, physically walked around her, and catered to the other parties behind us in line (who were all Caucasian). When he came back from seating the other parties (who had no reservations), she tried to explain again she had called earlier. As she is speaking, she talked with her hands (small motions like waving a magic wand) - apparently, the host took offense to that and yelled at her not to talk with her hands, which is ironic coming from someone posing with an Italian background. Seeing this, I took over the conversation...turns out our reservations were made for 6:30pm (not 6:15pm as my mom thought), but regardless of the minor time mistake, the host didn't even bother checking and gave no apologies. My elderly mom was too embarrassed to push back. We were the only table of minorities in visible sight, this treatment and the host's aggression was unwarranted. read more

Since Via Piccola Trattoria took over Milano restaurant the place has been thriving at first because the taste, price and portion were perfect. Now since they are doing well in customers the prices has gone way way up, skimping on portion size ( half a chicken breast is really a 3rd portion u get only) and lack in flavors while their prices has gone for poor quality of food and service. We ordered a lasagna and chicken masala in the lasagna it was warm not HOT meaning it was warmed up in the microwave because it was stiff. A chicken masala looked like it was pounded pretty good on the chicken breast for tenderness, but you only get a third portion only meaning 1/2 a chicken break is butterfly 3 times and 2 slices is used per plate. I stopped going because lack of service, food flavors are off, and the prices increase dramatically.
