TLDR: Ed was responsive, arrived near his predicted time, replaced my brake pads quickly and was happy to answer my questions - all at a great price! I heard a scraping noise when braking. After some research, I determined the brake pads likely needed replacing. I called around the major chains and they wanted to charge me at least a couple hundred bucks. I was scared the rotors might need replacing (or that the shop might bully me into it) which they told me would cost several hundred extra dollars. I was readying myself for a $200 or even $500 bill! Then I found Ed on Yelp; his site listed MUCH better prices so I thought it'd be worth a try. Despite the fact that he's running around town working hard on people's cars, he still managed to respond within a few hours to my first text and typically within a matter of minutes to the subsequent ones. When I had some last minute issues with work, he politely discussed alternate times with me. Ultimately, he showed up within 30 min of the time he suggested and completed the brake pad replacement in only 30 minutes. He looked at the rotors with me and explained why he didn't think they needed replacing yet and what to watch out for later. The big chains always try to get me to replace my cabin air filter and things like that, but no pressure from Ed - just a great job. He was kind, positive, and seemed happy to answer my questions. Edward is a Saint! My old 71' Datsun pickup had rear brakes that were shot and needed new wheel cylinders. My mobile mechanic of 8 years retired in January, and...I have been a little nervous to say the least...hoping my 07 Honda Accord never breaks down again! Praiseworthy Professional Service! Ed is an absolute professional. He responded quickly to my text message for a mobile service appointment. He informed me of his approximate arrival and arrived on time. His diagnostic fee was $40 as quoted, no added trip charge or gas comp like some mobile services. He checked everything as promised and quickly identified the problem: I needed a new battery and not an alternator as recommended by another person. The service should have concluded at this point, but Ed went above and beyond expected. Long time Yelp user, first time reviewer. Created a Yelp account just to review Ed. Well, the best thing is he comes to you. My car probably wouldn't have made it to a shop. I needed to find a mechanic since my car tends to have an issue or six here and there. I called Ed on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I alerted him of my problem (alternator) and he was able to fit me in on Saturday afternoon. It probably would have been sooner, but the holiday was near. Totally understandable. His price was beyond reasonable and he did it in half the time. I just moved from the DC area, so when he told me the cost, I kind of got excited. Kind of odd, huh? Mechanics aren't the most visited personnel over there. Not many people like to get robbed. A great plus is he isn't trying to sell you parts. I contacted Ed on a Saturday with a non-urgent issue (my AC has been on the fritz...so, somewhat urgent, considering Austin's full summer wrath is nearly upon us) and he made time to come out to my house on Sunday afternoon. The first step is diagnostics, so we did a simple recharge with dye. There were no obvious, fast leaks and he also made sure my AC drain wasn't clogged. Right now, I've got a beautiful, cold breeze flowing from my vents, but he said if that changes or I notice a bigger leak, he'd come out to complete the diagnostics/provide a quote for repair at no extra charge. From start to finish, Ed politely, and thoroughly explained what would be needed, and the realistic time it would take. First of all, let me say that Edward is an all-around great guy. He is very polite and will give you an explanation on what work needs to be done to your vehicle. In my case, the water pump on my truck was giving out and I made an attempt to replace it on my own but soon discovered I was way outside of my comfort zone. When you give a five star rating, Yelp says "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" over there to the right. I can't agree more. CALL THIS MAN!!!!!!! Let me tell you why! Ed and I had quite the adventure today, so sit tight - this is going to be a long one. But man, was it fun!! It's the most pleasant experience I've ever had finding out my vehicle is toast. My big old ranch truck was sitting in the Barton Creek Square Mall parking lot, thirty miles from home. I had loaned it to a friend to help another friend move, and during the move it broke down. I'm not too surprised - it's got almost 200K miles on it, and for a GMC that's a lot. Plus, since I live on a farm with cattle and tractors and the like, I've beat the hell out of it over the years. I text Ed first thing this morning asking if he could meet me there about noon. He was finishing up with another job in Pflugerville, so got to me as soon as he could, about 1:30. Diagnosis took all of a minute - it's fried. The godawful racket of metal against metal coming from somewhere inside the engine was a sure tipoff to even a casual bystander that there was something really, REALLY wrong. Ed confirmed it - my truck's now a nine thousand pound paperweight. So now what to do - put even more money into it or just give up on resuscitation efforts and buy a new one. I have to make a decision now or the mall cop will have it towed the next day, but I can't - I have to have time to think. If I make the wrong decision it could cost me big. I asked Ed if he knew a good wrecker service and how much it would cost to get it home where I could decide what to do. Since I live way west, WAY out of town in Spicewood, BIG CHUNK was the answer. Crap. Think, Linda. What are you going to do?! Ed, bless his heart, saw that I was in a spot, looked over at the Sears next to us, and said, "You know, if you buy a tow bar, I'll tow you home, keep the tow bar, and we'll call it even - no gas money, just the tow bar for me will be good." A hundred and fifty for a tow bar, a hundred less than calling a tow truck, and I get to sleep easy tonight knowing I have more time to figure out what in the world to do? DEAL! So we go into Sears ... no tow bars. I call a couple nearby parts stores - no tow bars there, either. Ed starts looking at the ratchet straps (yes, we're still in the air conditioned store while figuring out what to do - we're no dummies). I tell him, "You're thinking of towing it with those? Isn't that illegal?" He educates me that it's not, so I said, "I have a tow chain in the truck. You pull, I'll be the brakes, and between the two of us we keep the chain tight, yeah?" He smiles a knowing smile at me. Yep. I grew up in the country and graduated Redneck Wrecker 101 at an early age just like Ed apparently did. Ed gets the chain all rigged up, we get in, and off we go. Oh, crap - the power steering doesn't work unless the truck's running. No chance of that, so we stop and switch places since he's just a little bit stronger than me (*she says with tongue planted firmly in cheek*) and off we go (NICE RIDE, Ed! Your Suburban's fun to drive! And I forgot to put the seat back - sorry - hope you didn't bang the hell out of your knees getting back in). We start winding our way out of town, I miss the first turn since we can't get over in the right lane (*insert much cussing about traffic here*), we have to go a different way than we discussed, I start waving my arms around out the window pointing, and Ed knows Countrified Hand Signals! YEAH! We made quite the team pulling it the rest of the way home, nice and easy, no fiascos, communicating perfectly when needed, me towing, him braking, even through that construction going on just past Bee Caves. It was great! Smooth sailing all the way. We get home, come to a park, and I get out to greet him with, "THAT was FUN! I haven't done that in YEARS!" I'm laughing because I'm so relieved it's home safe, and he's laughing, too, probably relieved that I didn't wreck his Suburban (Admit it, Ed - there was a bit of that, wasn't there? *snicker*). So now I need something else to drive. I ask him to diagnose the funny noise my other car's making that I suspect is the clutch going out. Ed says, Yep. So we coordinate how to get it to him so he can fix it (And you better BELIEVE I want him to fix it. Someone who was willing to help me get out of a BIG FAT jam, who trusts me enough to drive his vehicle when he didn't even know me, and who, because of his straight-talking honesty along with everything else, inspired that same trust in me towards him? You betcha.) and I offer him a beer. I'm glad he had a little while to visit. I enjoyed getting to know him. He's a good man. Ed, I hope Byshop enjoys the bugs I sent him. Works out of his house and doesn't have necesary equipment to do most jobs. Kept my vehicle for a week and a half .Ihad to keep asking him when my car would be ready. No communication from him whatsoever. When I got my car back the back window and driver door were brokeJudging from the beer cans in the yard he doesnt have a whole lot of time to fix much of anything. Operation is a joke. I am sold on using Edward for any future mechanical issues. I got the opportunity to visit with him while he was working. Outstanding guy that offers affordable repair at your home.. My issue had to do with the A/C. I presumed it was the compressor and bought all the parts but after his diagnosis he found out the condenser had a leak from a rock flying up. Many mechanics will want to buy the parts so they can make a major mark up on the cost. Ed will let you go get the part if you want. I chose Ed because of the great reviews on yelp and I was not disappointed. Why take your car to a garage and wait around for hours and pay and arm and a leg when you can stay home or be at work and get it taken care of. There is a reason he has so many good reviews on yelp and it's not because he gives you an incentive/discount to make a positive post. Arrived when he said he would, easy to communicate with via text, and had my car running within minutes. Rather than just charge me and bounce, Edward took the time to explain what was up and show me how to avoid and troubleshoot the issue in the future, as it was a fairly simply fix. I would highly recommend Edward, both for the convenience of his service and it's high quality.
