Had cataract surgery in June and July 2021. Paid $9,000.00 for surgery with lens replacement. Vision was not improved after surgery and Dr. Odette wanted to perform an additional surgery to perfect my eyesight. Since I wanted no more operations on my eyes, I declined. I continue to wear corrective lens and when driving at night, the "halos" are worse than they were before surgery. I am sorry that I chose this facility to have my cataract surgery performed. Although they do a lot of good work from the other reviews, I have to agree with the lesser ratings after going to Dr Wong's office several times. As said in other ratings, they are an overpriced factory that is all about money rather than patient care. After paying $6,100 for a lens replacement in one eye, a couple years later and this "permanent" lens fix wouldn't allow me to read anymore! I asked their office if this was covered under warranty of the original thousands paid and they told me I needed to come in (another way for them to make more money in the factory). After in, I was told that I needed another "TAG Procedure" and since it wasn't reported in the first however-many-months, I would need to pay for it out of pocket again! (similar to the $6,100). I was told the price is the same where ever you go, but then after the visit, I made a call to another company and found out that there isn't a need for the expensive location/site for a procedure like that and it would be hundreds less, so I did the TAG with a different Dr and was very happy with the results (and didn't have to pay to rent a surgery room or whatever Dr Wong was charging hundreds extra for). Then after all of that, I received a bill in the mail many months later saying that insurance failed to pay for that little warranty check that I mentioned earlier, so I now owe them another hundred bucks just for the warranty visit. How many thousands do you want to pay? Just go to another good eye doctor. read more

I'm literally wearing an eye patch on my right eye after premium lens replacement. My patch says Austin Blind. My vision is remarkably worse. I still need readers and can no longer see far away like I could before lens replacement. My eye is permanently damaged, always dry, cannot focus and I literally can't see. It's a waste of money and now a lifetime of regret. I wish I could take a picture of how bad my eyesight is now so you could see through my f***ed up lens replacement that they can't do anything to improve upon after the 5 minute life changing procedure. I saw Dr Bui for what I thought was a piece of material in my eye. She immediately diagnosed tha I had an infected corneal lesion. She put me on an aggressive treatment of antibiotic eye drops to clear up the infection. Her therapy was spot on and my lesion was healed and the infection cleared after two weeks Dr Bui and the staff at Austin Eye were superb and I can't thank them enough for their excellent service. I have worn glasses/contacts since I was 5 years old (50 years). I went to see Dr Wong for elective lens replacement surgery a couple years ago. The experience was fantastic, and I had perfect vision immediately. I was in shock that I could see perfectly without glasses. I work in IT and need to see my PC every day. Dr Wong recommended separate lenses - one for distance and one for intermediate distance. I can see almost everything without reading glasses. I would recommend Dr Wong for your eye surgery needs, whether elective corrective vision or cataract surgery. read more

First, let me tell you about the best customer experience I've had with any medical organization. Dr. Bui, and the entire support staff at Austin Eye, provided a total solution, from my initial sign-in, through the evaluation, pre-op, operation and post-op, of which other organizations can only dream. I don't know if there is a Malcolm Baldrige award for medical care, but Austin Eye would definitely qualify. Another unique offering from Austin Eye is they own their own surgical facility and when you write your check, it's one check for everything. You are not dealing with one payment to the Austin Ey'e, another to the surgical facility and a third to the anesthesiologist. It is important to note, they gave me a price and it was THE PRICE. There were no hidden charges. I make the point about pricing because I had a completely different experience with Dell. I was give one number, in writing, for out of pocket expenses, and then at the pre-op appointment, when they expect you to make your payment, I was informed there would be additional payments to the surgical center and anesthesiologist. ....not to mention the $300 bottle of eye drops they had previously prescribed. A significant difference between Austin Eye and Dell is Dell doesn't own their own surgical facility, but rather use a third party facility... which brings in the issue of dealing with three entities. There were also other customer service issues about being told I would receive call backs, which never happened. Back to Austin Eye. Based on my experience, from pricing to the customer service experience, Austin Eye offers a significantly better value than Dell, and if you choose Austin Eye, you will be satisfied with the results. I have used Austín Eye for over 40 years, since 1980. I found that Austín Eye they were on the cutting edge of eye medical issues and remedies. In 2009 and 2010 I had cataract surgery in both eyes. I had Lens Replacement Therapy with 2 multi focal implants. This survey brought my vision to better than 20/20 in both eyes. I still do not need reading glasses and have just now have started using night time driving glasses. The Crystal Lens were the best decision I ever made. Recently had cataract/glaucoma surgery at Austin Eye at their Jollyville location. The care was exemplary! From checking in at the front desk, the pre-opt process, the surgical team and the discharge. The nurses/staff that assisted, Tricia, Amy, Abby, Dawn, Amanda, Jake, Jocelyn, Grace and Simon were great. Dr. Marie Bui is excellent! My first cataract/glaucoma surgery went great, my vision was clear when I arrived home. After surgery to the second eye, I immediately developed Anterior Hyphema (temporary blurred vision from red blood cells). Before surgery all nice and polite. After surgery ask a hard question or even offer an opinion and see what an arrogant narcissist this Shannon Wong is. Plus he chose the wrong lens and and runs you thru his assembly line with no anesthesia...only a Valium as he cuts into your eye. Dr Tom Walters had to redo Wongs work. Dr Walters is the true competent professional who has a tender heart, cares for his patients and isn't into it just for the money. He charged me a lot less and operates a true surgical center. There may be other doctors in town who do this but it definitely isn't this Dr Wong. Go ahead and roll the dice with him if that's what you choose. But you've been warned. read more

Austin Eye's Dr. Odette did my cataract surgeries in the summer of 2018. I chose the basic lens replacements that correct for distance vision only. With my Medicare + BCBS backup insurance, the entire procedure for both eyes only cost me around $200 out of pocket, including an optional retinal scan that I chose to have done. Austin Eye has great customer service. From my first encounter with the receptionist at the window, through various exams, visits with Dr. Odette, interaction with nurses, the surgery itself -- absolutely professional, friendly without being patronizing and no attempts to "sell up" to more expensive lenses. (They do offer more expensive lenses that supposedly give you both distance and reading focus but there are no guarantees and my optometrist tells me most people do not adjust well to them.) At age 74, my eyes had gotten to the point where prescription glasses could not keep up with the changes for more than a few days. After the surgeries, I now have 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other. (I have some astigmatism that new lenses do not fix.) I recently passed my driver license eye test without glasses. But I do have new prescription bifocals, prescribed by my optometrist 6 weeks after the surgeries, and they make vision in both eyes perfectly sharp -- as they have not been for several years. The surgeries themselves are a bizarre experience. It only takes about 10 minutes for each eye (a week or two apart) and is a matter of looking at bright lights through a hole in a paper hood while your eye is held open with a contraption like the one in Clockwork Orange. I felt some pressure, maybe a tiny bit of deep pain at one point, but that was negligible. The lights go blurry as the old lens is sucked out, then regain sharpness after the new lens is implanted. They give you a valium tablet before the surgery but the dose was not enough for me to feel it very much. I didn't find the surgery all that stressful, just bizarre. Your experience may vary. In the one-month follow-up exam, an Austin Eye tech gives you an eye exam to establish a glasses prescription. But I did not use Austin Eye for my new prescription; I used my regular optometrist. I noticed that the prescription I got from Austin Eye and the one I got from my optometrist were quite different. And the one I got from my optometrist is perfect. It is possible that Austin Eye does a more extensive exam if you choose to get your glasses there; I don't know. But my optometrist (Envision Eye Center) not only does a very extensive exam but then gives you try-on lenses in the office to test the new prescription -- something most optometrists do not do. (I highly recommend Envision, btw.) My only beef would be that someone in the front office at Austin Eye was a little sloppy with my medical records. They mixed the information I provided them with that from another patient, which resulted in them putting on my medical record that I had "heart failure" -- which I do not. I had requested their record be emailed to me, so I was able to have this corrected. I doubt this is a common occurrence. My wife recently had her cataracts done there, as well. She got even better results than I did (she has almost no astigmatism) and was also extremely happy with their services. read more

5 stars! I previously had RK surgery in 1995. Getting older I developed cataracts. Saw Dr John Odette and had Laser Cataract surgery with Symfony lens replacement in late February 2020. Just had my 1 month follow up appointment and far vision is 20/20 with near vision 20/25. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. The process was smooth, the nurses, support staff and Dr Odette were professional, please mat and told me what would happen every step of the way. Austin Eye and specifically Dr Shannon Wong were AWESOME! I just had cataract surgery and got the "Symphony" multifocal lens, and it's great! For me, before/after is similar to changing my cell phone's Brightness setting from 40 to 110%... the clarity & crispness is like going from a 1980s tube TV to a modern OLED HDTV... and the colors I now see are so vivid it's almost to the point of being 3D (no joke)! The surgery itself was easy shmeazy... the thing that "hurt" the most were the eye drops to numb my eyeball (no big deal), and after that there was ZERO PAIN during or after the surgery. Dr Wong has superb "bedside manner" and his staff (from receptionist to all the various nurses) all treated me like family. I am definitely going back to get my other eye done soon!!!! read more

UPDATING MY FIRST REVIEW- I just had my second eye done with the symphony lens yesterday. I can see so well, I have not touched my glasses since the first eye was done a week ago! I just got LASIK eye surgery with Dr. Bui and she did an AMAZING job! I've been going to this location for a few years now and when she said I could be a LASIK candidate I jumped on it! I got the surgery about a month ago and my vision is better now than when I wore my contacts. The surgery itself was surprising painless (minus a little pressure, but that's inevitable), and I could see right after it was done! It's a little fuzzy the next few days (like looking through a dirty contact lens) but I could still see everything! I'm SO grateful! After wearing contacts and glasses for over ten years it's truly miraculous that I can see so well without anything on my eyes. 10/10 I would recommend LASIK with Dr. Bui to EVERYONE that has the opportunity to do so!!! In July of 2022 I made the mistake of going to Austin Eye for astigmatism surgery in both of my eyes. My problem I had going into surgery was that at a distance everything was blurry. Medicare only pays for the Basic and I was led to believe that if I was not going to get the more expensive surgery that the Basic was good for removing the Astigmatism. At the end of the surgery on my right eye the doctor doing the surgery said that she left a little of the Astigmatism in my right eye. I asked why? But did not get a definitive answer. Now, I have 20/20 in my left eye and 20 something in my right eye. I cannot focus past 12 feet, have to close one eye when watching my big screen TV and have to close one eye when driving. Which is unsafe as all get out! I paid a $148.00 out of my own pocket to see my regular Optometrist for a more complete test on my eyes. Sure enough my left eye is ok but my right eye still has a little astigmatism. Also, the doctor at Austin eye did not put the right lens in. So, now 7 months later I am still trying to find the right contact for my right eye so I can focus. So far no luck! I wrote Dr. Shannon Wong that I was disappointed in the surgery and the misery that I was going through. His answer was that Medicare only pays for the Basic and that I should look into getting glasses. What is the sense of getting glasses if a contact won't work? Austin Eye is so unwilling to help me correct my eye, that now, I am going to Steven Dell at Dell Laser Consultants to hopefully repair my eye. I think Austin Eye is fine if you need surgery or have something wrong that truly needs medical attention. I left there upset, afraid and not feeling like I had a proper eye exam. The focus of my visit was on an eye disease I had never been diagnosed with before, and that it would be at least $8,000 (not covered by insurance) to correct. I immediately was told to do my own research and that I would want to review my options. I immediately called my prior doctor and found a new doctor in the area as a second opinion. Thank God I did that! I learned more about the disease and that it was not recommended that I get the two options at all! I got a proper exam and was able to get my glasses at the new doctor's place of business COVERED UNDER MY VSP PLAN! I wasn't just handed a prescription and was left on my own, to be told they couldn't correct my vision any more than it was (it actually was better than my prior prescription and could be corrected to 20/25 which was fine by me! The women who work there had no personality and were very insulting when I asked questions. That alone was enough for me to feel unwelcome. I am so glad I went somewhere else! Dr. Bui has been my eye doctor for many years. As I aged, my cataracts became more pronounced. It was time to get my vision back. I had worn glasses my entire life. She has a professional bedside manner and showed me care at each and every visit. I had eye surgery performed by Dr. Bui several months ago. It was a mistake. My vision now is worse now than when I came to visit the first time. Dr Bui's response to my several visits is that she thinks I am better. The fact that I can't see up close or at distance is acceptable to her, but not to me. Multiple return visits were unproductive and a waste of my time. In fact she implies that I am an annoyance to her. My stepfather went to Austin Eye for a cataract laser procedure. I know mistakes happen in life, but his left eye is permanently damaged. He went in for his procedure. They dilated his eyes, then got called away to another patient. When the doctor returned they re-dilated his eyes and performed the procedure. After 6 months his one eye healed. The normal recover is within a few weeks. The other has not healed, and never will. Causing reduced eyesight, quarterly steroid shots in his eye, as well general stress from not having reliable eyesight. His retina was punctured and will never heal. Make sure to do your research before engaging their services or any life critical procedure. read more
