The best thing about my experience at this hotel: EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE by the front desk staff. These ladies and gentlemen went above and beyond, and completely exceeded by expectations. They gave Ritz Carlton level service at a normal Marriott, which was conveniently located right next to the highway. We stayed at the Austin Marriott South this week for an entire week, because we were in town for our Blancpain GT Challenge race event at Circuit of the Americas. We had TONS of staff and race teams staying at this Marriott, and the hotel just made it easy for us. Plenty of underground parking, too! I had to ship a TON of packages to the hotel: several big boxes of camera equipment, several overnighted boxes of camera accessories, and even a pair of new shoes. The front desk staff received my packages and let me know they were there and ready to pick up, and did it all with a smile. The staff at the breakfast area of the hotel was awesome. By the way, the FOOD at breakfast was amazing! Not that contintental bkfst bs - it was a full omelette bar, buttered and chocolate croissants, fresh fruit, biscuits n gravy, bacon, sausage, soft breakfast potatoes, etc. The food at the bar was awesome too. They have everything from a poblano chile spinach dip to a $42 ribeye steak. At a Marriott?! Yesterday, I checked out at noon, but my flight wasnt until the evening. I left for lunch with friends, but returned to the hotel to hang out because it was 33 degrees and freezing outside! The guy at the front desk was super nice, and remembered me from staying the week there. He gave me an access card, and let me hang out in the business center so I could print a contract before I left for the airport. Seriously, I could not recommend this hotel more! read more

I am a healthcare worker that has recently been sent around Texas to assist with COVID-19 testing and vaccinations. I have been staying at hotels all around the state and have not had any issues until I stayed at this hotel. I woke up at my usual time at 4:00 AM and went downstairs to ask about using the gym. A woman by the name of Selene said that the gym is by appointment only and to come back at 6:00 AM when it is open. I responded that I work early and asked if there would be any exceptions, especially since this was the only hotel in Texas that I have stayed at that had such restrictions. Selene became very unprofessional and sarcastic and stated "the gym has already been sterilized and is safe to use but you will just have to come back at 6:00 AM because that is our policy. You have heard of COVID haven't you". I said of course I have heard of COVID, what kind of question is that, to which she responded "well if you are going to be sarcastic with me then I will be sarcastic with you." I then stated that I wanted to speak to the manager because I did not like her attitude to which she laughed and said " I am the manager". I then asked to speak to her boss and she said "good luck with that because they are all asleep, you do know its 4:00 AM right?" Finally I said that I will wait to reach them later that morning but wanted their contact information, to which she gave me a business card for Kim Gagnon (GM) and said "here you go, have fun". I told her that I felt she was being extremely unprofessional and she responded, "well if a guest is going to be sarcastic with me then that is how I am going to treat them". I want to be completely clear that I am not writing this review because of the gym (I just went running outside) but because of Selene's complete unprofessional attitude and child-like behavior. read more

I stay here often because they were close to the hotel. I always stay with Marriott rewards since it is the most generous with word program in the hotel industry. On this last day I noticed a few things with the hotel that should be corrected. First the staff is always professional and courteous so that shouldn't change. The concierge level attendees are always pleasant and fun to chat with as are the bartenders and front desk staff. But I did notice this time was that the floor in the bar area was very dirty including the Big U shaped couch in the bar area. You could actually see the discoloration from the age and use of the couch. There was an overpowering smell of air freshener when you go to the elevator waiting area. The garage door handle was actually broken and would only turn one way to open the door. Love the location and the staff but Marriott could use some updating dollars sent to this location. read more

A boutique hotel, this ain't. But during the crazy fest that's SXSW, it was the best (but def not the cheapest) I could get. I booked online and received a phone call shortly after confirming my reservation. The gentleman mentioned they happened to have another room $100 cheaper - but since I was sharing my room with Atlanta CM Kathleen M, we prefered to keep our suite: complete with a living room area with sofa bed, desk area, king size bed... What I loved: *The mini-fridge that actually kept cold. I traveled with a healthy fruit salad to keep me from snacking on chips, Gatorade and water to keep me hydrated; and they all stayed ice cold. Mmmm. Ice cold grapes, berries, apples, strawberries and melon are the best morning breakfast during a hangover. *And the shower was great too. Bathing in Austin is the best because of the wonders soft water does to your hair and skin, but the shower head made me sad to go home to the one I have at home. *Business center for all my printing needs. *Free parking, but no valet. *Complimentary shuttles every 30 minutes to the Downtown Marriott during SXSW. What needs upgrading: *They've got free Internet, but no Wi-Fi. You gotta use an archaic Ethernet chord. *Decor. It doesn't compare to other Marriott Hotels - maybe the Courtyard or cheaper versions - but not a regular Marriott. *Room service menu was incredibly inexpensive, but our breakfast arrived cold. read more

We got stuck in Austin flying to Reno. Already had our second cancelled flight of the week. Already stressed and tired. The airline set us up with this hotel and I've never been happier with any experience in my life! The front desk manager is absolutely amazing. The friendliest, personable, and sincere manager... well... person in general I have ever met! And that's not even getting into the room yet! Checking in was so easy, and gave us a hint to order food before we even got there from the airport (it was very late on a Monday). When it comes to the rooms, absolutely perfect. After a hard day traveling, it was what was needed. Newly remodeled rooms. Incredibly comfortable beds and pillows. CLEAN! CLEAN! CLEAN! Beautiful large screen tv with Netflix. The Austin Marriott South is located conveniently on I-35S about 15 minutes from Downtown Austin. The hotel has plenty of parking and is located next to a number of other hotels. The hotel itself is comfortable, although a bit dated. The elevators take forever to go from the first floor to the top floor (5 I think) which isn't even that high. The rooms are decently sized, comfortable, and has your standard Marriott amenities. The club lounge is also decently well stocked with plenty of snacks and refreshments. Staff is also nice throughout the hotel, friendly and willing to explain everything to you. Would definitely recommend this hotel if everything downtown is sold out or prohibitively expensive, but there are quite a few other nice hotels in the Austin area (Westin at the Domain is one of them). read more

There is nothing bad to say about this hotel. Seriously, it was a beautiful experience. We were there for a conference so we didn't pick it, and sometimes that can be a deadly combination. The lobby is gorgeous and the service was the best I'd ever had at a Marriott. Cheerful, funny, witty, wicked, fast, kind: the best front desk group I've ever met. They had great memories and recalled conversations from the previous day. The restaurant was good. I had an awesome salad and my buddies had great burgers. They have a really nice bar with a good selection of top shelf liquor. The bartenders were amusing and extremely patient. The conference rooms were exactly the right temperature, they had plenty of space, the technology worked correctly the first time, and the refreshments were always filled! The catered food was excellent. This is a topnotch location for Marriott and I hope that the people working are recognized for being better than the Marriott brand in other location. My room was comfortable, extremely clean, the shower products were nice, and the hot water never ran out. Plenty of channels on the television (and a printed channel guide - can I get an "Amen"?). The beds were nice and comfortable. The desk was large and usable. I was able to study at the desk and there was great internet connectivity. Really an excellent experience and it's a quick Uber to downtown or anywhere in Austin. read more

Not really sure where to begin and end so I'll just list the pros and cons... Pros - friendly staff, updated lobby, restaurant in-house. Cons - room was not cleaned prior - popcorn was left out on the floor, which makes me question the rest of the room. - walls are thin - could hear my neighbors alarm every morning. I'd be curious to know if the side facing the highway can hear the traffic. - gym is made for Oompa Loompas - ceilings are very short almost feel like I'm going to crush my head on the ceiling when running and I'm not even 6 ft. Machines are rusted. - bedroom decor from the 70s - everything in the bedrooms are dated including the bathrooms, mine had a leaky tub faucet as well. - small details off - there were at least 4 clocks I saw that were completely off time. The main lobby had one tiny water container with infused water, which was nice but maybe available 10% of the time of my stay and nowhere to be found the other 90%. - did not receive selected room choice and got no indication otherwise. I booked a Queen months in advance and they gave me a double without telling me and said sorry it's all they had left and I was thrown into a random pool. To cap it off the rate of my stay was almost $200/night and at that rate you might as well stay somewhere else for what you're getting here. Disappointment of a Marriott. read more

The service from the staff here was great, and it's a convenient location just outside of the heart of downtown-- without the downtown prices-- that's a quick 10-15 minute ride away if there's not major traffic. Our check-in and check-out were both a quick process and they even offered us complimentary mini bottles of water. The room itself was pretty basic and a little dated looking but clean. The pillows were not comfortable and went flat, but stacking a few together helped. The bathroom could not have had a weirder or more cramped layout and there were not enough bars or hooks to hang towels. We didn't notice any freeway noise, but we were on the opposite side of the hotel. Room service was actually surprisingly decent, and it saved us in a pinch when we got back from a late event and were still starving. The gym had the standard equipment for most Marriotts, and everything seemed to be in fine condition. However taking the room across from the gym was a mistake as someone who worked out in the mornings kept dropping heavy weights EVERY SINGLE TIME. I even decided to join them one morning (if they had woken me up anyway, I might as well get up and get a workout in, right??) and asked them to be more careful when they again slammed weights while I was there. They complied... until I finished my workout and returned to my room. I realize that there won't always be an amateur body builder staying here, and the slamming of weights is not the fault of the hotel, but if you want to get a good night's rest you should consider moving farther away from the gym. Taxis seemed to have trouble finding this place because there are 5 hotels all huddled together in the same area (including another Marriott brand right across the parking lot), so you may have to flag your driver down. All in all, this place was not my favorite Marriott but staying at this location probably saved us a solid $100/night versus staying in the city, so we got what we paid for. read more

We stood here for a week over the holidays & really enjoyed the stay. Staff was very friendly, wore masks & plenty of sanitizer around. Breakfast in the morning was off the menu instead of buffet & really delicious. Best thing was the gym - you reserve a spot so you get the room to yourself. I've stayed here a few times when my friends and I make an Austin BBQ run. It's at the north end of a string of Marriott properties, with just about all of their brands represented. This particular property has just about everything you'd expect from a full service brand, with nice on-site restaurants, a bar, parking garage and even small area with snacks and sundries for sale. The rooms are ample in size, modern and have great connectivity for the flat screen TV. Beds are very comfortable with plenty of nicely fluffy pillows, and everything is shiny and clean. If there's a knock on the place, ingress is a little convoluted if you're coming from the north, but there's not much the hotel can do about that. All in all, it's a solid hotel and a pretty good value for the money. As others have noted, the surface parking is not voluminous, but the garage is free and has quite a few spots. read more

We thought it would be a bit far from the center, in fact it is just good; 15 mins to drive to the 6th street. Hotel room design is interesting, it brings you back to the old time, quite suites to Austin's artsy mood that you may find here and there in the city. we were so lucky to check in the hotel with Ms. Dexter, she is super nice and able to give you a real smile every time you pass by reception desk. I just wrapped up a quick stay at this Marriott for my first visit to Austin. We booked our trip with short notice, and many hotels centrally located were really pricey. After discovering this hotel, we decided to book and our stay was great. The location is very close to the airport and also downtown/the southern neighborhoods of the city. We found it very easy to get around and hop on the highway to get to everything we wanted to do/see. I think the best part of this hotel is the peace and quiet. I've stayed in some loud hotels recently, and was shocked at how quiet this Marriott was. I didn't hear a peep around us the whole time we were here and slept really well. The wifi also was faster than most hotels which is an added plus. I do think the hotel is a touch outdated, but not so much so that it really affects the experience. Like it didn't bother me at all the chair in our room looked a little old. The hotel was clean, quiet and affordable so I have no complaints. I look forward to staying here again! read more

What sets this hotel apart from many others is their commitment to a superior level of customer service. From a mix-up in what company was to be charged to the service in the restaurant to offering excellent suggestions for "touristy" things to do nearby, the entire staff cannot be beat. Each of them made obvious efforts to greet me by name and with a smile. I hate to write a list of all that went wrong during my stay, because that is not the impression I want to leave. The hotel itself is nearer the airport. The restaurant for was okay, and I only chose to dine there once. The wait staff were absolutely excellent. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the AC is not super cold. The technician came up immediately upon my report, and he was absolutely excellent. After a new filter and a box fan, I slept just fine. I would definitely stay here again, because I value people and service, and so do they. read more

I scored a night in the Marriott Austin South for only $50 on priceline ($64.99 after tax). It was a little tricky to find but ended up being MUCH nicer than any of the million Marriotts and other hotels surrounding it. The lobby was clean and contemporary with a slick modern feel and all-you-can-eat Andes mints at the reception desk (mmm, chocolate). The front desk staff hooked us up with extra toothbrushes and razors and check-in was a breeze. Minus a star because the hallway our room was in smelled strongly of trash and ass. Not a sexy combo. Luckily our actual room was so fresh and so clean, stocked with all the standard amenities including a big comfy king-sized bed, tv, desk, armchair, coffee maker with lots of free coffee, and a shower with pleasant-smelling soaps and shampoos. Free internet access in the lobby area only right by the stack of cool towels and pitchers of water. All in all a very comfortable, quiet stay, close to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center where we attended a wedding and only 15 minutes from the airport (free shuttle service to/from the airport, departures as early as 4am). If I ever return to Austin I'd definitely stay here again! read more

I was in town for two nights to attend a conference that the Marriott was hosting. I arrived around noon to find that they were already allow check-in, which isn't very common. Check-in was quick and painless, so I snagged my keys & tossed my stuff into my room before heading to my meeting. The meeting rooms were well equipped and a decent temperature. I don't know how many conferences I've been to where the hotel was trying to freeze us out! So nice not to have to bring a blanket to my meeting :) I liked that there was an underground garage on site, even though the elevator situation was a little annoying. You actually have to take an elevator from the garage to the lobby, then another set of elevators take you to the rooms. Probably practical overall, but time consuming neverthe less. The room was kept very clean and turn down service was quick. I usually have issues with hotel beds being too stiff, but this one wasn't so bad. And it had a ton of pillows on it! If I can build a fort out of the provided pillows, I'll consider it a successful stay. When I faced issues with the amenities, maintenance was there in a flash. All of the staff that I dealt with (front desk, maintenance, guest services) were friendly and professional and efficient. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely check the availability of this hotel. read more

Other than the broken bathroom sink stop throughout the weekend, the huge bug on the second night, and the plugged toilet the third morning, the friendliness of the staff - and I mean sincere southern charm - made up for the slight inconveniences. I do feel this was an isolated case. As far as location, the hotel really is not centrally located. You'll have to drive 10-15 minutes into town for most events and activities, but what you'll get is convenient free parking and a stress-free experience. Some of the reviews say they don't have wifi in the rooms but that must have changed because if this review posts, the wifi works. I've stayed here several times. It was redone at some point and is quite nice. The service is friendly. My company had an issue which required some cooperation on their part and they could not have been more accommodating. It's a straight shot to downtown Austin and SoCo, which is my favorite place. Clean, comfortable, convenient and cordial. That's all I ever ask and they deliver. read more

I give this hotel 2 stars as a general hotel to stay at and for their night-time staff, and 4 stars as a place to hold a meeting and for their day-time staff. Thanks to the gracious manager who placated me after I complained about my hotel stay, I will begin the review with the positive side. The staff during the day was super friendly and very willing to help us with all of our needs. There was always someone nearby to assist whether we needed food/drink refills or more tables/chairs, and they popped in every so often to make sure everything was running smoothly. And the lunch they served us each day (first day Mexican, second day BBQ) was a nice selection of very good food. Between the banquet staff and the front desk staff during the day, our two-day large meeting was a success. Unfortunately, my actual stay in my hotel room was not nearly as nice. Essentially it comes down to an inattentive housekeeper and unavailable front desk staff at night. When I went to the front desk to check-in, there was no one standing there and I basically had to yell over to the security guard to get someone to come check me in. It was annoying to wait, but didnt really bother me too much at the time. Then I went to take a shower and noticed the housekeeper left two lotions rather than a conditioner...okay, again no biggie, I come prepared for that. Then I start to learn those were just the first signs of bad service... I go to dry my hair and see that there is no hair dryer in my room. I call down to the "at your service" number and it took me about 20 minutes to get someone on the phone-- I called 7 times and let it ring for about 10-15 rings each time before finally a guy answers. So I tell him I need a hair dryer, and after he insists a few times that its in my closet despite me telling him over and over its certainly not, he finally says he will send someone up. 20 minutes later, still no hair dryer. Call down again, get a woman this time who says she will send someone up, acting as if this is the first time I called. And of course no apology from either of the "at your service" people when I expressed my concerns regarding the lack of service. Then the housekeeper brings the hair dryer and it doesnt work, so I call down for her to bring another one. She comes back with another but does not seem happy with me. Finally though, after over an hour has passed, I can dry my hair Well you know when you wonder if a seemingly annoyed waitress will spit in someone's food...well I had that sort of concern with my housekeeper, even though it was her own fault for not checking to make sure the room had a hair dryer. But I didnt give it too much thought and instead left my room the next morning to go to my meeting. Later, I came back to what seemed like a perfectly made up room. But then I went to go to sleep and I pulled off the blanket, and sitting there on the top sheet was a corn cushion!! You know, one of those little donut shaped cushions for your toes. I was so grossed out, but it was 1am so I didnt have time to deal with the "at your service" people that clearly take an hour to accomplish anything, so I tore the top sheet off the bed and had to sleep with the heavy blanket. The grossest part is that the corn cushion was intact, which clearly means it hadnt been through the wash. So basically I got someone's dirty sheets. Whether it was intentionally done out of spite (I dont see how she couldve missed seeing it when she was making the bed!), or if it was just another careless mistake of an inattentive housekeeper, we may never know. But I do know it was the most disturbing hotel experience I've ever had. But I emailed Marriott my complaint, and the manager handled my situation very professionally. He apologized numerous times and gave me the amount of Marriott points equivalent to my stay there. Some advice if you do stay here, if you notice that even one thing seems off in your room, switch rooms immediately and to one very far away from that one in hopes of getting a different housekeeper because you clearly dont want the one I got! Oh and I should also mention that despite being called an airport hotel, it isn't the short distance from the airport that you would normally assume. It is actually about a 15-20 minute drive from the airport, and probably even more during rush hour. All the good food places are about a 10-15 minute drive as well, but well worth it. read more

I stayed two nights at this hotel last week and was pleasantly surprised. I've stayed at dingy Marriott's in the past but this hotel is great value for the money. The lobby looks much more high scale than the outside would allude to and the rooms are very spacious with large, comfy king size beds. The best part of the room is the bathroom - it's actually quite beautiful! While this hotel is not downtown, it's a quick 7 minute drive from downtown. If you don't have time to hit downtown, there's a movie theater, Target, and several restaurants nearby to choose from (although none within walking distance). This is a perfect place to stay if you are in town on business. If you're in town for pleasure - stay downtown closer to the action! read more

Once a year I live in this hotel for 2 days during a trade show...I wish the location was closer to downtown Austin but this year they started a shuttle downtown from 6pm to 11pm...which is a nice touch. I would rather pay for one taxi ride instead of two. The staff is really good and friendly here. I recently lost my Marriott Status and was not given the Concierge Floor...which is great here...I have gotten spoiled...this year I was slumming it on a regular floor. When I checked in at Noon, the guy behind the desk told me that no rooms were available especially King Size Beds...I threw my Marriott Number down and then all of a sudden he found me a King Size Room. It is amazing how that works...any kind of membership has its advantages. The room is nice...big comfy bed...big TV and a nice work area...which consists of two big desks. I had a lot of room to work on my presentation. The banquet staff also works really hard too...the managers were there late and up early. This place also has a peanut butter fountain. It is the most amazing thing ever. Two years ago I gathered a crowd of ten around it as we dipped pound cake, marshmellows and strawberries into it. When I walked in this year I was happy to see my old friend the peanut butter fountain...then my old friend disappeared while I was drinking a beer...I talked to one of the managers and she said that it was backing up...so they had to remove it. She offered to get me a bowl of peanut butter to take back to my room...I almost took her up on it but I didn't want to look like a freak going back to my room. This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Hotel staff are rude, discourteous and treated me badly even though I have titanium status with Marriott. The room was not clean. I left with a weird series of unexplained insect bites on my neck. I left a complaint with Marriott but no-one from the hotel cared or bothered to reach out and listen to feedback. How embarrassing! There is a string of Marriott Hotels an a row. And I told BJ that we were booked at the Courtyard. Imagine my surprise when I tried to check us in and they said they didn't have a reservation for us! So, red faced, I checked my iPhone to discover we were booked a couple hotels away at the Marriott South. Check in was okay, but for a "full service" hotel, the front desk acted a little not full service. But we did discover that they had a shuttle running to a down town sister hotel, so we didn't have to worry about parking or driving. A very nice perk. Unfortunately, the airheads put us down for an 8 pm shuttle, and then later discovered that it was over booked. How complicated is it to count 2 + 2 + 2 + 3 might equal 9? Maybe another couple offered to pad their palm with a $20. Either way, pretend to pay attention! The ride downtown was super fun. We were packed up with some crazy college grads from Erie looking to party and some over age Australians horned toads trying to make the college girls giggle. For the price, I think it was really worthwhile to stay here. Much cheaper than downtown locations and the shuttle made the commute no problem. And free parking. I'm in the process of cleaning out my new house and moving into it. Needed a place to stay and chose the Marriott close by. From the moment of walking in, it didn't feel like a cheesy hotel nor did it seem overly posh. The place had been recently renovated and it worked out well. What I really loved was the lamps. I wish I had taken pictures, they were exactly what I want in my houses; sleek, modern contemporary, cool?! The woman behind the counter, Olesea, was perfect. I walked away with a smile on my face feeling happy. This woman who had taken the reservation made me happy, what, the hell. She was great. The place has housekeeping, in-room dining from 6a to 11p, restaurant/bar, pool and gym on the 2nd floor... I was pissed they didn't have a laundry service. Ugh. I was staying there one night, so! I still needed my clothes washed and dried. Nonetheless the ameneties were great. I had a suite, had living area with tv, a nice desk, large bathroom area, king size bed n tv. I used the living room and watched tv for about 5 minutes, it was nice. OH you know what was good? The shampoo. Smelled of limey goodness. Mmmhm. The only 'down' thing about the experience is my partner's allergic to down. We were laying in bed, the last things I said were, "The comforter is down." "No it's not Aaron..." "The pillow is down..." "No it's not Aaron..." We wake up in the middle of the night, toss the blanket off and throw the pillows on the ground, ITCHY. He didn't believe me at first, but I was right. The bed is made of down. The manager this morning said housekeeping would have changed the down materials into foam. (With a wave of a wand... haha noo.) Had we said we were allergic, the night would have been comfortable. Personally in the 24 hr stay I had, my favorite thing was the shampoopoo. Smelled so good, my scalp was refreshed! In a town like Austin, yes, there are more luxurious places in more happening locations but this Marriott was perfect for my 2 night stay while I recruiting at UT Austin. Not wanting to stay right near the university or downtown the location of this Marriott was really perfect because I was able to get there and back on the frontage road instead of sitting in heavy traffic (and not much chance of getting lost). My recommendation would be to request a room which does not face the freeway. Although I have this request in my Marriott rewards account, usually the reservations desk does not take notice and I have to request it every time (no, I am not platinum). This is the first Marriott that didn't have to change my room upon check in because they had actually granted my request beforehand. Consequently, the check in was less than 1 minute and I was on my way to the concierge lounge for some snacks. The room and concierge lounge were the usual standard expected and that was just fine with me. I prefer to stay at Marriotts because I depend on consistency when I travel. If you are looking for a dependable hotel with warm southern hospitality (away from all the craziness of downtown) this Marriott is a good choice. I went here for a course. I am not reviewing the rooms. I wanted wifi. Why? My class was boring and I came late and had to sit in the front. I paid for the class so if I want to surf the internet, I think I will. There are a couple of wifi hotspots. They are all very similar in name. However keep trying as there will be one that is free to access without a password. I had no idea of this until I asked the concierge. It looks like it will ask for password b/c you have to click a link to activate and agree to TOS, but it is free. Yay for wifi! read more

This hotel is about 4 miles from downtown, so quite a convenient location. They do offer a shuttle downtown for about five bucks. I was visiting with an old friend that I haven't seen in many years, and somebody from the front desk came to the concierge lounge and brought us a bottle of prosecco because we were celebrating. That was incredibly thoughtful and nice. It made my stay! read more

I cancelled my reservation over 30 days prior to check in but my credit card was still charged. They admitted it was a fault on their part, after I forwarded the cancellation confirmation. But 10 days later they still tell me that the refund is yet to be processed. Not once I've received proactive feedback. I have to call them each time! read more

We held a conference here. Great staff, super friendly! Very nice rooms, and the concierge floor is pretty awesome :) No outside balcony, but you're by the freeway so really who'd want that? Just outside downtown, about 15$ by cab. There's also a free Marriott shuttle that'll take you to the downtown marriott, and then it's a short short walk to 6th street. read more

We stayed here 4th of July weekend and got a suite because it was pretty much the same cost as a regular room. Everything seemed fine until I woke up my first morning there covered in bites. My husband thought that maybe they were mosquito bites from our walk at the Zilker Botanical Gardens and I just hadn't noticed the night before. So with that I decided to do something I should have done at the beginning and inspect the bedding. I've had bed bugs before and didn't want to go through all of that again! I saw nothing behind the bed board, but when I inspected the mattress I was very disappointed. I didn't see any bugs, but the mattress itself is not encased at all! Even "lower end" hotels think to put their mattress in bug-proof cases, but not the Marriott? Then I moved the mattress away from the wall to look at the box spring and was a bit grossed out. There was a ton of hair and lint from previous customers on the bed skirt linen. I expect more from the name behind this hotel. I finally decided to write this review after waking up this morning itching. I go to the bathroom and there are bites all over my feet and around my ankles. I would think it was from my hiking yesterday if I hadn't been wearing socks that went 3 inches above my ankle. I will say I saw no actual bed bugs here or even any bed bug carcasses, but what I did see shows me that their housekeeping standards leave it highly likely that they will have them if they don't already. I want to say I was a guest here during what in Austin was a crazy week of snow, no electricity, water etc.... so many people flocked to hotels the last few days due to this. What felt like a hell of a week the staff here over the past few days made us feel right at home. I wish I was able to get everyone's name from front desk staff, kitchen staff and housekeeping. Cockroach in room. While sitting in my room reading, I saw. 2" long cockroach crawling on the wall. Called front desk to send someone to come take care of it. 15 min later it was still me vs cockroach. There is no way I will sleep in this room with the cockroach crawling all over. I then got dressed, packed my stuff, went down to the lobby, and requested a new room. Mind you, with all these additional time, I still have not seen a soul coming up trying to take care of the situation. If it were not that this was midnight, I would have checked out and found another hotel. Needless to say, I will never come back again. So unless you like to sleep with cockroaches, I will advise you do the same. Addition after phone call with Manager from Austin Marriott South: I have the opportunity to speak with David, the manager from Austin Marriott South this morning. This is a prime example of how a small isolated incident can escalate into a much much bigger issue when you don't handle it appropriately from the get go. Had the front desk handled this swiftly and appropriately when I was standing in front of them at midnight telling them that I will be taking this issue to the social media, we would not be having this conversation. I am sure David was busy jumping from website to website this morning leaving responses to all the poor reviews I have left on this facility. While I appreciate his appology and offer to make it up to me, I wish I did not have to deal with this in the first place. I hope no other travelers have to experience what I have. read more
