My daughter had previously went to another orthodontist in the area and was told she would need some teeth removed and major surgery to fix her under bite and I wasnt comfortable with that plan of action. A friend recommended Dr Briggs and we got an appointment quickly for an assessment. He took a lot of scans and gave us a less invasive treatment plan which suited our needs. He is very gentle and kind and my daughter loves going in for her check ups. They have a little play area for her little brother so it is not a painful trip for us to wait. They have a really open room which makes it less scary for patients because they can see there are others getting painless checkups too. Great place with an amazing staff. read more

We started to see Dr. Briggs for an expander for our daughter. We have received the best service and feel confident we are with the best Orthodontist! Dr. Briggs is really wonderful with kids (and parents) and very knowledgeable. The nature of some of the procedures in not super fun, but my daughter still looks forward to going into the office! They make it as painless as possible. The staff is excellent. Dr. Briggs also supports our school and they do food drives and other charitable collections at the office throughout the year. This is my first review on Yelp and it's been long overdue. I had a severe underbite and was finally ready to take care of it. I went to other orthodontists in the area but no one listened to my requests and concerns as well as Dr. Briggs did. Every other place wanted me to get jaw surgery which is what I didn't want. My 12-year-old son has a tooth which was growing in sideways, and his dentist insisted on an orthodontic consult before his next dental appointment to ensure orthodontia wasn't necessary, and referred us to Dr. Briggs. At the consultation my son was taken to get his imaging/x-rays, and the dental technician asked him if he wanted Invisalign or braces. When we met with Dr. Briggs, Dr. Briggs talked about braces as if they were inevitable and as if all children needed them, it was just a matter of when, and emphasized there were both aesthetic and functional reasons to get braces. I had to ask several clarifying questions before he would say outright that there was NEITHER aesthetic NOR functional reasons for my son to get braces. Until I asked those questions, it was heavily implied that my son would be getting the braces, and we weren't there to discuss IF, but when. Luckily this was a complimentary consultation. I will not be going here again. If you are already seeing Dr. Briggs, I recommend grilling him about the necessity of the orthidonture, because that information will not be readily provided. read more

For three years I would have given Dr. Nelson five stars - things were smooth-sailing, staff nice, Dr. Nelson very pleasant, and my daughter's teeth had been straightened within the first few months since she got braces young. If I were a typical reviewer, since I had a horrible experience, I'd give one star, but I'm going to assume this is rare - hope that it's rare. But one shocking day after several miscommunications WITHIN their office - due to the fact that there is a large staff - everything changed. My daughter had been seeing him for a while just for check-ups after braces. The retainer on the bottom had failed, and he said to get those teeth perfect he'd like to put braces back on the bottom at no charge. After we left the office, we thought about it and called in a few days later to ask about alternatives - the idea of braces again was not appealing, and we were told that they could put in a wire retainer to push the teeth close to straight but not perfect - this was with one of his staff, not him. We would need to schedule a fitting for a mold, so we went in and they did the mold, though the results of my call had not been written anywhere so we had to explain things again. We came in a week later for the retainer when there was another doctor we'd never seen before, and the staff could not find the retainer nor could they find the mold for it (and we had to explain things all over again), so they recast the mold. A week later we came in and not only did the staff not have the retainer but one of the receptionists said several times that, "Your appointment's not in the computer," not saying there must have been some error or something, but with the tone of my having lied about having an appointment. Well, it was 10am on a summer morning, not a time that I would choose to fake an appointment, and why would I come in and drag my daughter in for a retainer that wasn't there? At some point one of the staff said no problem, that he could make one in five minutes. Which made me wonder why we'd had to wait a week - twice - to no avail. Then we went in to see Dr. Nelson, who, with a smile, gave me the shocker. He said I had been rude to his staff and he would not tolerate that and would I like my daughter to be seen by him at all? This was so shocking that I actually started to tear up and sniffle - not a typical occurrence, believe me. I told him I had expressed frustation with his staff for good reason, - and later when I spoke to my daughter she said she had been surprised as well, since she didn't think I misbehaved in any way given what we'd experienced. Then I spent some confused moments kissing ass so that I wouldn't have to find another orthodontist and render the free follow-up appointments null and void. When we got home I realized that the retainer they'd made was ONLY to help keep the teeth in place- in this case crooked - of flimsy plastic much like teeth--whitening trays. So that's why it had only taken five minutes. It wasn't what we'd requested and been told would be a good alternative to redoing the braces and NOT what we'd come in for a total of three times by then. We have put up with the bottom teeth as we're not exactly thrilled to go back. Note: this is probably a fluke, but frankly, in the future, I would pick a smaller office where things don't fall through the cracks and they don't make me feel like a criminal. Note on the actual work: they requested teeth be removed from her dentist. Her jaw looks too small for her face so I believe they requested too many teeth be removed. But the top teeth look much much better than they did when she began with them. Of course we'd like the bottom teeth to look as good, but they don't look too bad and unless I truly feel like sucking up my pride, we won't be back. read more

We went to Dr. Briggs for pre and post jaw surgery orthodontics for my daughter. As a college student, she wanted to use invisiline rather than traditional braces. We found Dr. Briggs to be thorough, understanding, and empathetic with her situation. To complicate matters, she was in college out of state. Dr. Briggs and his staff tailored her treatment around her breaks so that she didn't have to make any special trips home. Immediately before and right after the surgery, Dr. Briggs was amazing. So many things could have gone wrong, instead, with Dr. Briggs skill, all went very smoothly. We are so grateful that the surgeon referred us to Dr. Briggs and we highly recommend him. read more

I haven't worked with his new associate Dr. Briggs much yet, but so far he seems a good fit for the office--a good listener, knowledgeable, and kind. Out of the 15 or so times I went through out mY treatment I never waited more than 5 minutes for my appointment. I really love Austin Orthodontics. First of all, the entire staff is friendly and knowledgeable, which is a rare treat with doctors these days. But even more importantly (well, as importantly, anyway) is that Dr. Briggs is fantastic. Here's a laundry list of reasons I like him: - He doesn't keep you waiting. I have never even gotten a good look at the waiting area, and you know that uncomfortably long period between when you are checked in, and when the doctor actually sees you? Nope. Not here. his staff member leaves the room, and within a minute or two, there he is! - He is just plain nice. He is friendly. He doesn't ever seem rushed or unconcerned, or any of those other nasty traits that doctors frequently have. - He really thinks about your long-term goals, and the best way of achieving them. He doesn't rush to put you in braces, or do any extensive work. He tells you the pros and cons of different treatment options, and really makes sure that you and he are on the same page with treatment. In fact, in the 3 times that my daughter has been to see him, he has never recommended any orthodontic work at all (even though it will definitely be needed in the future). - At today's visit, he was on the fence about what to recommend. Here's what he said "ok, so what would I do for my kids...." BRILLIANT! That is exactly the kind of thing I want to know! If you are on the fence about your current orthodontist, go see Dr. Briggs. He is fantastic in just about every way that an orthodontist can be. read more

I did a session of Invisalign with Dr. Briggs. The whole team over there is fantastic. After the first 10 trays, I wasn't completely satisfied, so when we went with an additional five trays for an entirely reasonable $500. When it came time to get the retainer, they even made me a special one with the German flag (because I'm a huge German soccer fan - and they had just won the World Cup!).
