Upon moving to Austin, my hubby was keen to adopt a dog when he stumbled across Austin Pets Alive online. Every day he would view the gallery for updates when a particular puppy caught his eye. His persistence paid off when he convinced me to take the plunge and confirm a meet and greet. Austin Pets Alive staff were very responsive and quickly arranged a visit with the foster family. We instantly fell in love with this adorable pup named Billy Bob. After the visit, we sent a thank you note to APA and the foster family for their time. Within 24hrs, we were advised we passed the screening and to formally submit our application. On the next business day, we received the best news ever - sweet pup was ours to bring home! We stopped by the Tarrytown location to finalize the paperwork and arranged pickup date with the foster family. The overall process was straight forward and speedy. The staff really does go the extra mile to ensure all is well - with follow up emails and behavioral training if needed. Highly recommended!

TARRYTOWN Pet's Alive is a responsible no kill shelter I posted a few pictures of the cutest dogs here and cats quite nice very well managed and the staff is friendly. Two volunteers were with the animals playing with the sweetest dogs....so if you see any photos of a animal you want to adopt this is it. It is located in a nice neighborhood off Windsor Rd. One impressive note is that is the outdoor area a wonderful play scape for these dogs and yes, well maintained. It has a pub next door and out door area which I plan to visit with my pups. So in this area specifically is dog friendly .......This is a wonderful place to find the pet you desire and cherish forever. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this is a No kill shelter a major plus.

Look at this sweet girl. She's about 1 1/2 years old and was rescued from a hoarder. All she needs now is you!

Once a week I have the wonderful volunteer opportunity to come play with the small dogs. The loving and hardworking staff cleans cages from 10 to 12 and the sweet pups are in the yard left to their own devices. It is fun to get to know them and give them some human bonding. I've been tempted to take several dozen home with me. This APA site houses mostly the small dogs and some puppies. These little mutts are so cute and are always vetted by the talented APA staff. You can read their personality card to find a dog's name, temperament and age. There is sure to be one here for you. If you love animals, APA needs you. But more than that, the animals need you. Come get some doggie smooches and hugs. Better yet, come adopt a pup!

The best little hot dog ever, thank you APA Tarrytown!

This adoption center is mostly focused on smaller dogs or younger pups, with occasionally one or two bigger dogs in the larger kennels. Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable about each pup, their personality, who they can get along with and what to avoid putting them with. They go out of their way to find the pup that fits you and your home, and aren't just trying to get dogs adopted by any means necessary. Our home is a much better place because of our little pup, and it's nice to know that even when going back to possibly adopt another dog, the staff still remembers him. Thank you from the Nix family! -Cody, Jess and Jack (formerly Ralph at Tarrytown)

this is the location on 1156 W Cesar Chavez St

my spouse and i headed towards austin in hopes of finding a new dog, we chose adoption because of how many poor dogs need a home at those shelters. we went to the location on the W Cesar Chavez and we were welcomed with a lot of lady's at the front desk talking cutting up, we scanned the codes signed in then went looking. once we found the literal perfect dog for us we went back into the front desk to ask for my info, then was met with a "oh scan the step 2 QR code and they'll send you a text when they're ready" we thought that it usually wouldn't take too long, especially with as much staff that we saw and the fact that we came on a not so busy day customer wise. there were only 2 other people there. so we waited for the text for a good 30-45 mins standing next to the dog waiting for someone to assist us. we then waited another 30 before leaving. thinking that this just wasn't the right dog or place to buy from due to getting no response whatsoever. they texted us 45 mins after we left letting us know. so in total we waited 1 hour and 45 minutes for us to get any type of info on a dog..... i feel bad for the dogs that are there because we did get bored in our hour of waiting for absolutely nothing so we were looking at all of the dogs that were on this bored saying 300+ days, 400+ days, they even had a dog on there that was 2,000+ days..... just so sad to see that we couldn't take that poor dog to a loving home, and i really hope that she doesn't end up sitting there like the others. maybe if they hired more staff to help focus on the people that are trying to take these dogs home, there would be a change. in all honesty i believe half of those dogs would already be adopted if it wasn't for that crazy long wait.

The clinic was scheduled from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM. I arrived around 8:30, and as expected for a free event, the lines were long--but honestly, that's understandable when such valuable services are offered at no cost. One of the great things was that there was no limit to the number of animals you could bring. Once I got there, I was greeted by friendly staff who gave me paperwork to complete. A staff member kindly informed me that the process could take a while, which I appreciated. I ended up waiting in line for about four hours. If I had known ahead of time, I definitely would have brought snacks and water to help pass the time--but I was fine overall. Before they took my puppy back, they thoroughly explained the procedure and all the services included: the spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchipping, and preventative medications. Talk about saving money! They promised to take great care of him, and I felt reassured as they carried him back. Around 4:30 PM, I received a call to pick him up. He looked good at first, but as I drove down the highway, I noticed some bleeding. I turned around and rushed back to the clinic. The staff explained that male dogs can be a little more sensitive due to the number of blood vessels involved, and it wasn't unusual. They immediately took him back, cleaned him up, and made sure he was okay. One of the amazing volunteers even helped me clean the blood off my car and blankets--who knew peroxide worked so well? Once home, I noticed his microchip had started to migrate out. I texted the number they provided, and they told me to bring him back in for a check-up. I did just that two days later, and he was given a clean bill of health. They were quick, responsive, and made sure everything was taken care of. They also mentioned that they host these events frequently. If you're considering getting your pets spayed or neutered, I absolutely recommend bringing them here. The wait can be long, but the care and services are worth it. They treat your fur babies with love and compassion, and you leave knowing your pet got the attention they needed. Thank you to the entire team for your patience, hard work, and dedication. Look out for more free spay and neuter clinics it will save you tons

They pioneer comprehensive, innovative programs designed to save the animals most at risk for euthanasia. They have a 95% animal save rate...the highest in the country. I volunteer as a dog walker every day. The dogs are well cared for, and they ensure that each dog gets walked 3 times a day. In addition, they participate in play year activities to make sure they get proper exercise and socialization. The kennels are always kept clean and hosed down after pet accidents. They have matchmaker services to make sure an adopted pet is compatible with their new owners. And they offer a lifetime of behavioral support, by dog behavior experts, for adopted dogs. Donations should support care, vetting, and rescue efforts--not personal profit.
