Paisley, the patient...

Updated review: after initial consult, we set out a dental plan and minor surgery for her initial injury. I dropped her off that morning then picked her up that afternoon and they had to do a little more work than expected but came in UNDER their initial estimate. Not that it would have mattered in terms of what she needed or would have received, but it's great to know they take a careful approach to doing right by pets and owners. Would absolutely use again with confidence for any surgery or dental work.

Hi, After I called and communicated that Dr. Lott referred me to an internal medicine doctor who's negligent care resulted in my pet's death, it was completely inappropriate for Dr. Lott and your staff to send me a "sorry your pet died" card. It's been less than two months since my cat was abruptly taken from me, and I am still very much in pain. I called to let Dr. Lott know the consequences of her actions, and to ask her not to refer anyone to this doctor again - she took no accountability and did not say that she'd stop sending pets to this doctor. Before the botched procedure, I told her that I didn't want to go to this place due to its horrific reviews, and she still pushed me to go. Now, when I'm trying to move on with my life, the people who are partially responsible and take no accountability send me a card about it. This is not okay. I was going to email you with this feedback, but I don't even have access to a real email address, and the last time I called, I was told I'd have to pay $30 to provide feedback.

Anticipation builds for the cheese treats

We took our fur baby to our normal vet where they had no idea what the issue was she was having. I did a little research online for the best vets in Austin and came across Austin Vet Hospital. I was worried maybe our dog had something going on that no one had seen before and on top of that, she's a nervous German Shepherd who has the temperament of a Golden Retriever, so I didn't want her to be treated as a vicious doggo from the streets of south Bronx. We made an appointment and we saw Dr. DeCiero and her wonderful assistant who took the time to warm up to our fur baby with the help of some cheese (literally my dogs favorite treat) and make her comfortable around the dreaded lab coat. Dr. DeCiero was able to quickly identify what was causing our fur baby's issues and was not only able to give us medication to take home right then and there but a referral to another specialist in the area for further treatment options. All in all, we were literally treated like family from the moment we stepped foot in the door. We will be coming back for all of our routine doggo health maintenance needs. A BIG Thank you to Dr. DeCiero and all the wonderful staff there!!

Unlike some of our experiences with other veterinarians in Austin, we never feel rushed. We truly appreciate the care and attention he gives to both us and our cat Reishi. Dr. Rob performed oral surgery to remove several of Reishi's teeth. It was the first major surgery we had experienced with her. He was extremely patient with our questions, took wonderful care of her, and guided us through the entire process. Reishi healed very quickly and had no postoperative complications, which we were especially grateful for after hearing about friends whose pets experienced infections and other issues following similar procedures elsewhere. Recently, Reishi had a cancer scare after an alarming initial assessment at an emergency vet. We were quite stressed. When we brought her to see Dr. Rob, he first acknowledged what we had been through and made us feel heard and cared for before discussing the next steps. He even emailed us with test results and next steps while he was on a family vacation, which showed us how deeply he cares about his patients. Fortunately, further testing showed that Reishi did not have cancer. Going through such a stressful experience felt much more manageable knowing that Reishi was under Dr. Rob's care. He is compassionate, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in both his patients and their families. Unfortunately, we are moving out of state and will have to find a new veterinarian. We truly hope we can find a clinic as wonderful as ATX Animal Clinic. It is the best veterinary clinic we have ever had, and we are incredibly grateful to Dr. Rob and the entire team.

We recommended everyone to this clinic and my mom takes her dogs here as well. My only complaint would be the new front desk person I think her name is Kayla. It has been an awful experience trying to schedule anything with her. She has told me wrong information multiple times in regard to schedule appointments even when I asked her if she was sure cuz the info didn't sound right. It has been incredibly frustrating working with her. I wouldn't trust information coming from her and will be asking to speak to someone besides her from now on. Otherwise a wonderful clinic and have loved all the staff besides her. Highly recommends this vet clinic.

Then, she passed while the doctor and I talked about her life and how wonderful she was. It was the hardest day of my life, but the easiest day of my sweet baby Gracie's. It was worth every penny. I have never seen such a peaceful ending. There are not words big enough to communicate my gratitude. The end of her life was so sacred, which is more than most of us people get. This has helped my grieving process immensely. I know for certain this was the best ending that could have been for my sweet angel. Thank you so much.

My cat was recently diagnosed (at a different vet) with a somewhat rare parasite (Tritrichomonas),…read moreand I was having a hard time finding a vet I felt confident in. My usual vet, who we have been seeing since adopting the cat almost 2 years ago, rudely dismissed my concerns over the phone and insisted that I needed to pay an $80 office visit fee just to get an answer to my question over the phone (the question was "What does the PCR panel test for?"). I started calling every other vet in Austin to find a clinic that has experience with Tritrichomonas and that I felt comfortable with. Several clinics admitted that they did not know what the parasite was or had never treated it before. Another lied and said "oh, that is super easy to treat and really common and straightforward!" which I knew was not accurate from the empirical literature online. I finally found Austin Urban Vet and the experience we have had so far has genuinely been night and day different from pervious clinics. From the very first call, the AUV team was empathetic to our situation, VERY transparent about pricing (they provided it in writing), and explicitly clear about which PCR diagnostic panel they use at AUV and exactly what it tests for. They were open and honest about their experience with Tritrichomonas and I immediately felt at ease and confident in the care that they could provide my cat. After chatting with my partner about my findings from calling almost every vet in Austin, we both agreed Austin Urban Vet was the best one to move forward with, so we made an appointment. Right off the bat, I was happy to find that AUV has a private parking lot (for free!). I headed inside with my cat and the team at the front desk was so kind and helpful. They quickly checked me in and invited me to grab a bottle of water or make myself a cup of coffee as I waited for the tech to take us into the room. We waited for maybe ~5 minutes before the tech took us to the exam room, where she scanned my cat for her microchip, weighed her, and asked questions about the presenting problem, history, etc. Dr. Helen was who attended us for the exam itself, and she was so kind and thorough. I really felt that she was providing genuine feedback, and she was honest about her experience with this parasite. She was transparent about the treatment plan and let me know her general thoughts (Ie., "If she is still positive, we will do X. If she is negative, we can try Y.") We are now waiting for the PCR results, but so far, I am so happy with our experience and feel confident that Dr. Helen will provide us with the best care possible.

SOUTH PARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL is now owned by a VENTURE CAPITAL FIRM called National Veterinary Associates, which in turn is owned by JAB Holding company, JAB has tripled in size since it started buying up vets and charging confiscatory prices, taking advantage of our love of our pets. I gave them two stars because at least they did my cat right and he's fine now. BUT they started burying me in pitch emails too, trying to feed fear about my cat's health, constantly trawling me for more money, more money, more money, all while pretending to care about my cat when they don't. If the people at South Park Animal Hospital really loved animals as much as they love MONEY, they wouldn't have sold out. But they did. I will never go back and suggest you don't start.
