I can't speak highly enough about this shop. I needed a clutch replaced on my second generation Infiniti G35, and because of the design, it's about the most expensive clutch replacement of any normal car in the US. Infiniti dealer quoted me at more than $3500, more than $2000 in parts alone, and several other shops were just shy of that. I called z clinic about what they would charge and with parts, the quote was more than $1000 less than the other shops. To my complete amazement, they recommended I get the parts on my own and they would install them at an hourly rate. I was able to get the parts at a discount from an infiniti dealer in another state who sells them online, and got them installed here. Total savings was almost $2000 and I was still able to use entirely OEM nissan parts for the replacement. Even if I had z clinic get the parts for me, it would have been about $1500 in savings. Total clutch replacement took 3 hours. This is almost legendary speed for a time intensive procedure like this. Infiniti wanted me to leave it for 3 days, other shops were both 2 - 3 day estimate, and obviously none would let me bring my own parts, and they were marking up around 100% for parts. On small stuff this usually isn't a huge deal, but on $1500 worth of parts, doubling the price makes work really expensive. My regret is that I didn't call z clinic first because this is probably the best shop I've found in Austin. I would have kept my previous 300ZX twin turbo if I had known there was a great mechanic that worked on these cars in the area. I only wish the shop was a bit closer, but this will definitely be my go to place for work on my G35. If you have an infiniti G, M, I, Q, or datsun, nissan SX, ZX, Z or equivalent, this is your shop. I'd even check if they did work on Altimas and Maximas if I had one. Skip the dealer, skip the garage down the street and go here. They specialize in these cars and their prices and policies are as good as any mechanic I've ever seen. read more

The best place to go if you have a Z. I tried finding a local shop so I wouldn't have to drive far but they all either couldn't figure out how to swap my clutch or they were all booked for a few days. Spend around $4,000 and have a Z-Car that won't start or run: That's what I received from Austin Z Clinic. I had a pristine 1991 300ZX Twin Turbo with around 60K original miles on it. It was stored in my garage for over twelve (12) years. I explained the long storage situation to Kevin (Z Clinic owner and sole technician). My explanation didn't matter. Both I and my Z were treated like dirt, and with total disrespect. I'm around $4,000 poorer, and I have a car that won't start or run. Two visits and still no solution. Kevin putting some kind of "mystery" oil in my crankcase and fuel tank. What a joke. If you are familiar with the Soup Nazi TV skit from Seinfeld, that's the attitude at Austin Z Clinic. As another reviewer noted, prices for simple things are outrageous. The misrepresentations (lies) are numerous. OEM parts are not used as promised by Austin Z. Finally, expect no or a very limited warranty on parts and labor. If you love your Z and you like yourself, stay away from this business! My Z must now be shipped to a shop out of state to repair the damage done by Austin Z clinic. They ruined my beloved Z! read more

He took the time to look over the entire car with me, pointed out the issues, helped me create an upgrade path and even helped me take care of some small problems for no charge. If you own a Datsun or Nissan Z, this is where you should be taking your car. Kevin knows these cars inside and out, and the most common issues and solutions specific to them. That's going to make a big difference in your repair time and costs, especially on the older Z's that the dealer and general mechanics just don't know enough about. I hate this, but others should know. A couple of years ago, after numbers of hours of discussions with Ed (see other review), a great old fella who built and drove jet powered dragsters "back in the day", I made the decision to agree to having a "replacement" engine installed in my Z. Ed told me it would be five thousand dollars to install a "crate" short block and accessories in my '91 300ZX normally aspirated (called NA, the most basic of engine types). Another long story, but the car had NO engine, but had the transmission. So I agreed to the five thousand dollars for the "new" engine. After delivering the car to ZClinic, and a few days later, Ed called me and told me it would take another five thousand dollars to complete the engine install. People, that's TEN thousand dollars, which is more than a very clean twin turbo is worth. For whatever stupid reason, `I agreed, and delivered a second five thousand dollar check. When it was complete, he called, and I went to pick it up. I must say, the car was peppy, as I have another Z of the same year and it seemed to run with stronger torque. My "other" Z passed inspection with what the inspector guy said "lowest emissions i've ever seen". Back to the subject. Since the car is a "toy", it's not a "regular drive", so it "sits' a lot. So, in the first couple of weeks, the air conditioning ceases to work, and it's developed a "miss", sort of chugging sound. And there is this gurgling sound coming from the left fender well. When it came time to get an inspection, it failed miserably. So I took it back to Ed/ZClinic, and they did the old "tee in a vacuum line" trick which "may" fool the inspector. Well, it didn't work, so I took the car back to ZClinic, and Ed/Kevin agreed to "have it inspected", which they did, and I got my sticker. So it seemed every time I drove it, not only did the air conditioning not work, and the very annoying gurgling sound from the underside of the car, but, now the missing was so annoying it wasn't worth driving. So a few weeks ago, I followed the "book" and confirmed that the reason for the missing was the fact that one of the injectors had failed (TOTAL of about 400 miles on the car since I had paid TEN THOUSAND dollars for a "new" engine). Needless to say, for the amount of money that I paid, I would have expected "better". As I looked at the wiring and the injectors and a few other things under the hood, it became apparent that most of what is bolted to my "new" engine are very old used parts from "crapped out" cars. Rusty bolts, cracked rubber bushings, missing cover plates, generally "not good workmanship". I decided that, given the amount of money I'd paid, I'd take it back to ZClinic, partly because it's time for another inspection, and I know that without a "trick", the car would not pass inspection. Talked to Kevin about the problems outlined above. He told me that the engine replacement was "Ed's deal" and that he had no responsibility. He also said that he "doesn't do inspections", (although they "paid" somebody to get a sticker last year) and he can't help me in that department". He gave me a price of seven hundred plus dollars to replace TWO injectors. I picked the car up and limped it home. I then double checked the injectors and there is ONE injector that is bad. After I picked it up, I now have an "exhaust leak" that was not there when I took it in to him. It CHUGS loudly. He told me that the "gurgling" sound was because there was water in the AIV system. (It happens, after some research), but he made no effort to correct the condition. After TEN THOSAND DOLLARS and 400 miles, this is a travesty. Bottom line is, Kevin has no sense of "obligation" to anything that happened before he bought the business from Ed (even though part of the ten thousand dollars probably went toward his salary when "things were tough" a couple of years ago. What a shame that he has chosen to go down that path. Ed is a nice old fella, and I like him, but he's no longer "in charge". I will never set foot in ZClinic again. Sour grapes? Maybe. What would you think if you were me ? PS.... I'm sure I've forgotten a dozen or so other issues that are just "wrong". read more

I was honestly disappointed through my whole experience. Took my car to get a new motor that i ordered from a shop in CA. The whole time i tried to stay in contact with Kevin, trying to get some answers to the questions i had but only received blank one word replies. Other than the fact that he jumped the price $1000 over what we had originally talked about, he didn't even replace a $40 O2 sensor forgot to tighten my throttle cable didn't replace and o-ring for the distributor and forgot to tension 2 of my tranny bolts. If i hadn't have known to check other peoples work i would be buying a new bell housing assembly or possibly a new tranny all together not to mention the odd idle and drip of oil since the o-ring wasn't replaced. Very half ass job if you ask me for way to much. Certainly not a Doctor i would see again. But out of all of that im most upset that he raised the price a whole thousand dollars but never mentioned this in the estimate. I payed more to have the motor put in than i did to build the entire new block with all new internals and ship it form CA. read more
