This is a superior automotive repair business. I came here for a second opinion . The receptionist made us feel very welcome and comfortable, being very kind and easy to talk to. My auto dealer quoted me $7K for a major repair to my 2007 Nissan 5-speed truck. Austin's Automotive Specialists confirmed the problem identified and did a NATION-WIDE search to find me used parts to repair it. Nowhere in the nation are there parts to fix my truck. Due to my VIN, the specific rear end of my truck, the parts just aren't out aren't out there. They even checked junk yards and salvage yards. My only option are new Nissan parts which would result in a $7K repair. My sweet truck is worth maybe $700 Blue Book and has 265,000 miles. Sadly she's not worth repairing. Austin's Automotive Specialists went above and beyond to find a way to save her. That was amazing. I will use them in the future with my next vehicle. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE I had an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience with Austin Automotive.. After an initial diagnosis, I was told my car could be fully repaired in 2-3 days for around $4,000. I agreed and authorized the work. What followed was nearly three weeks without my car. After several days, I called for an update (I was borrowing a car just to get to work). I was told everything was done except the axles because they needed a manufacturer part. A few more days passed. When I called again, I was told they had ordered the wrong part. Then again, they ordered the wrong part a second time, causing even more delays. None of this was communicated unless I called. After almost three weeks, I finally got my car back--only for it to not start the very next morning. I had to jump it multiple times before realizing they had installed someone else's battery in my car. I brought it back, they swapped it out, and sent me on my way. About four days later, my check engine light came back on. I brought the car back immediately. One of the repairs they claimed to have fixed was my power steering, which turned out to be leaking. They fixed that under warranty--but then told me they never fixed or even noticed my oil leak, despite having my car for three weeks and performing a transmission repair right next to where the oil was clearly leaking. They then tried to charge me $300+ just to clean the underside of my car and re-diagnose it, which I declined because this should have been caught the first time. A week later, my power steering failed again. I brought the car back and was told to leave it for 1-2 days so they could inspect it and look into the oil leak. I left it on Saturday. By Monday and Tuesday, they still hadn't even looked at my car. Only after I showed up upset and asked for my keys back did they finally lift the car--and found the oil leak in 5 minutes. To top it off, the service rep then told me that whoever sold me the original repairs never should have, and that he would have recommended I sell the car instead, with the oil leak repair estimated at $2,000+--information that somehow came only after I had already spent $4,000. This shop showed poor communication, repeated mistakes, lack of attention to detail, and wasted weeks of my time. I trusted them with my vehicle and regret it. I would not recommend this shop to anyone looking for honest diagnostics or reliable service. read more

My work truck was here from late Thursday, the 24th, until Tuesday morning, the 29th. On Friday the 25th, I received a call from Clay, who explained that he was unable to "get the key to turn in the ignition." I arrived at the shop later that afternoon and was informed that they could not "release the steering wheel lock." I walked out to my vehicle with Clay and was able to release the steering wheel lock and turn the key in seconds. Any "reputable" mechanic should know how to do this. My MAIN complaint with this shop is that my vehicle was left outside in the parking lot, with the window down and the key in the ignition, for multiple days. I checked in with Clay on Monday morning, the 28th, for an update--there was none. Clay assured me that, due to recent workers calling out on Saturday, they would take a look at my vehicle. I grabbed some work items and noticed that my window was down and the key was in the ignition. Since the shop had been closed the previous day, Sunday the 27th, I was slightly concerned that my window had been down all weekend. I did not receive an update on Monday, and with rain in the forecast for Monday evening and the following day, I decided to check on my vehicle as I was concerned it might get damaged. To my surprise, the window was still down with the key in the ignition. The guy who hangs up the keys must have called out sick again. I ended up jump-starting my own vehicle and rolling up the window. I worked on my vehicle for about 30 minutes, doing my best to secure it for the evening and ensure its safety. Anyone with basic knowledge or access to YouTube could have stolen my truck from their parking lot. Oh, and let's not forget that this is my work vehicle. I had a significant amount of tools, and other equipment available for anyone to take right out of my vehicle. I'm still taking inventory to ensure that nothing was stolen. I repaired my vehicle in their parking lot on Tuesday morning before driving home. I couldn't help but notice that there was plenty of space in their garage bay to keep my vehicle inside. This shows massive negligence and a lack of respect for my property, which is why I'm leaving a one-star review. The vehicle could have been pushed into the bay--I know because I pushed it myself before getting it towed to the shop. If I owe anything for the 5.5-day stay, let me know, and we can deduct it from the cost of the new battery I just bought, which was showing a bad cell. Battery purchased on 8/24. I would highly recommend this shop if you need your muffler bearings adjusted or your seat belt timing fine-tuned. **Edit** Turns out my alternator failed, not a battery issue. It's so strange how my initial shift-linkage problem caused my alternator to fail. read more

I stopped by to see about getting spark plugs put on my car, and since I could've put them on myself and did, saving myself $230 for about 45 minutes worth of work, I'm grateful for the clown at the counter telling me what kind of plugs I needed. You know, sometimes you get ppl who are so full of themselves they are just flat out condescending and in the final result, they talk themselves out of a client. What he didn't know is, I've spent $1000's of dollars in that shop over the years on various automobiles, usually...no ALWAYS with great results. But I have a long memory and I won't be back to Austin Automotive, not to any of your locations because you were absolutely annoying. I know the difference between iridium and titanium spark plugs and for you to insist they'll ruin my engine is COMPLETELY DISINGENUOUS, and not only that, is a flat out lie. It's a lie, which makes me not want to trust you, and I don't, and I won't. So I hope your condescending and dismissive attitude to me made you feel like a big man, because you're going to be able to exert your authoritative lies to others less knowledgeable. Over priced and awful customer service. Quoted 3800.00 on a brake job a few months back. Checked around and everyone else was cheaper-literally everyone else. Brake job done for $1,100. Was told it was so expensive because of my high performance vehicle(Camaro SS). I tried again-Called 5 days ago and inquired about replacing my headlights. Spoke to someone who took all my information and stated they would call me right back with a quote. Still waiting, 5 days and counting! Went to O'rileys and upgraded my lights to LED, did them myself. So many shops in the area, don't waste your time going to this location. They lost a family of 3 cars. read more

I've been to Austin Automotive multiple times and while their prices were close to dealer repair than normal shop, it was convenient and close to my home. However, I had my drive belt snap while driving (Austin Automotive never checked for any belt wear by the way) and i had the vehicle towed to their shop. They sent me an estimate of over $220 to replace a belt that is easy to access. Due to having past experience working in an auto shop i knew the normal prices for parts and how long this takes to repair and I knew immediately that this price was insanely high. By the way, most shops get discounts below retail for all parts. Here is their price breakdown: (They advertise on their board that belt changes are around $70) $128 for labor $98.25 for the belt. (Checked the dealer retail price and the part costs $31. Holy markup!) I asked the manager for a part number to see if I would want this part installed since he claimed it is "only the best parts" and he declined to provide it. He also declined to explain why labor costs would ever be that high for a belt change. Instead of having a conversation and providing exceptional service, Jerome Lawrence, the manager, told me he does not explain prices and I can take my car elsewhere. Finally he offered good advice. They also offered ridiculous prices for other maintenance on my vehicle.i will upload the quote here for all to see. I'm surprised at the number of negative reviews here. I used to go to Christian Bros and their service IS superb, but I found their pricing to be very high, and after I got an estimate there and then price checked at AAS, I was proven right. I have been going there ever since, first to the one by Lakeline Mall but to the one on Crystal Falls Pkwy in Leander ever since, and I've had solid service at both. And at each location, I had 1 occurrence where a repair they told me I need and had approved paying was not charged to me. The first time I was told after they got in and fixed the first problem, the second issue was gone. No addl repairs needed. The second time, they found that a damaged part might have been due to the last time I had it in with them, so they replaced and did not charge me. That tells me their honest and I know their pricing is fair, so I'm a happy customer. read more

I had been happy to take my car but never again. A cover under the car came loose and we took it to them to be repaired. While out of town this weekend, the cover came loose again and my husband found it had been reattached with tie wraps! Seriously? I paid to have it repaired with factory parts. I also had taken it for some various maintenance before this trip. While i was on the highway, the low tire pressure light came on. Checking the tire pressure was supposed to be part of the general maintenance they did! Very unhappy and will not take my car there again. read more

There was only 1 other person before me getting an oil change and he had been there for over an hour and they were still working on his car. No one said anything about the delay. The guy working the front desk made several personal phone calls some of which he made on speaker phone. I could also hear the guys in the back cussing and carrying on. Not sure what happened but I'm really sad about it. I called on Tuesday, made an appointment for 2pm Wednesday for an oil change. I get there after driving about 25 mins in the rain to get there. The guy at the front desk tells me they don't have any appointments scheduled till 4pm and that I could leave my car there as they couldn't work on it for another 1 1/2 hours. I had no way of leaving without my car, that's why I made an appointment. JT was always so wonderful to deal with. I found out the next day when I called to try to speak with him, that he was no longer with the company. They also didn't have anyone to do the safety inspection. So I've scheduled both our vehicles to be seen somewhere else for the first time since I started going there. I'm sad to see this. Thought I had a great shop to rely on. read more

TL;DR Only because I can't give them six stars for their professionalism and customer service. Enthusiastically recommend. Short version: Professional advice and work, reasonable prices, lengendary customer service. Because of their knowledge and advice, I have saved over $5000 in expensive repairs. They will be my go-to repair shop until JT and Doug leave. Long version: 1st visit-- 2012 VW Sportwagen needs shocks and front brakes. Because Austin Automotive Specialists [AAS] had just opened in Leander, they were running a first time visitors special. After calling other shops and getting quotes, found that AAS prices were in line so the coupon was going to save me about $100. Cool. Scheduled the service, talked to JT who explained all the options and his recommendations and answered ALL of my questions. left the car with promise to get back tomorrow. Following day, I get "the phone call"-- you know the one where the shop has "found something else"--EXCEPT this wasn't like that. JT is calling to let me know that after looking at the strut mounts, there is no need to replace them, so he put them back in the box and LOWERED THE REPAIR PRICE ANOTHER $100. Now, we had already agreed on the price, AAS could easily have just put that money in their pocket, but their focus is on always doing right by the customer. [total savings so far by using AAS instead of another shop-- about $200] 2nd visit-- 2015 Honda Fit. Wife's car is making a rattling noise on start up. I've looked at everything I know to no effect, so I bring the car to AAS. Hour later, I hear from JT that the variable timing valve controller needs to be replaced. I ask if they can do the service and JT lets me know that there are specialty tools that his shop doesn't have so they can't do it. Then he says, "By the way, I think this might still be covered under your warranty. The car is 5 years old, but you only have 33,000 miles on it. I pulled the technical service bulletin [which JT printed for me] and the part should be part of the powertrain warranty which goes to 60,000 miles. I also looked up the vehicle in service date and if you will want to get the car to a dealership this week before the warranty expires" I look over the information, thank JT, then ask how much I owe for the diagnosis. "No charge". ( Most shops in the Austin area will charge you $80-100 just for looking at the car) Two days later, take the car to the dealership who first tries to charge me a $95 diagnosis fee. Nope, I have the diagnosis already in writing hand the service advisor the technical service bulletin to go with it. They agree to do the work with the diagnosis and will get back to me with an estimate [I had told them the car was under warranty on the phone] Dealership calls and says the cost will be $1,900+ dollars to which I remind them the car is covered under warranty. They try some BS to say the in service date was 7/17 so not covered but I SHOW them our delivery papers of 7/25 so yes it will be covered. [Remember, JT had looked this up for me so I ALREADY KNEW it was covered]. Car repaired next day, no charge. [total savings so far $2,100 +] 3rd visit-- Wagon has a check engine light. Googled the code and found it needs intake manifold replaced. Called JT, asked him to take a look. They use their knowledge to dig deeper into the code and come back with a laundry list of other things including a warranty covered software update which they printed up for me Since this is a more specialized repair for diesel engine, car has to go elsewhere. I had brought the car in hopping on a bad ankle, so JT offers to call VW specialist shops and deliver the car to them! Who does that? Take the car to the dealership and ALL the repairs on the car end up being covered because of that software update. Intake manifold, exhaust gas recirc, and diesel particulate filter would have cost $3,500 if not for the advice and service from JT. [Total savings $5,600+] They do great work and treat customers fairly. Why go anywhere else? read more

Honest (JT, who runs the place, said it was an easy fix but better to have it taken care of at my dealership since it was likely the car was still under warranty (it was). He could have milked me for $$, but he was professional, kind, and took time to explain matters. Will I be going back there? Uh, yeah. 5 months later (today): Ok. I live maybe 7 minutes away from another Austin's Automotive, but keep going back to JT and his crew in Leander after having been wowed the first time (see previous review of mine). Friendly, professional, honest and down-to-earth. I went for a simple oil change and a once-over to make sure our car was good for a long trip and he did just that without coming back and saying, "you'll wanna consider a new air filter, cabin filter", etc. Just straight up no bones do the job right the first time--and with a smile. Went in for an oil change and wanted to support a local business. Also received a coupon in the mail. The man at the front desk was not welcoming or friendly. The guy who worked on my car seemed to not know what he was doing. Said the screw to my filter was stripped and he couldn't get to it so he couldn't change it. When I took it to Christian brothers they were confused and said there was no stripped screw and they were easily able to change my filter. Avoid this place! read more

Wow! Can't say enough good things about this place. JT is amazing! He is straight forward and honest. Won't tell you your car needs something if he doesn't think you need it. I made an appointment because I thought I needed my brakes done. He was able to squeeze me in with less than 24 hour notice. On the day of drop off he called a few hours later because he couldn't find the tool to take my tire locks off. He sent one of his guys over to discount tire to get one and then gave it to me when he was done. To top it all off he and said my brakes were fine and did not need to replace them for another 6-9 months. That is what sold me on this place right there. He didn't just take my money to take my money. He was also able to get me in for an oil change too which was much cheaper than what I was paying at other places. I am now a customer for life. I just moved to Texas and needed to get my suv inspected for registration. I called to set up an appointment. They were so nice and knowledgeable about what I needed to do first before the inspection (change insurance) and they said I didnt need an appointment. Once I was there, I asked if they had the time for an oil change as well. We drove 1200 miles and my car needed some pampering. They said no problem and made sure all the fluids were topped off and rotated my tires. Everyone was so nice. The main office/waiting area is very clean and comfortable, which was great because I had my 1yr old with me who had to explore every inch of the place. Have a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. Started leaking oil not long after an oil change somewhere else. They got me in very quickly and found the oil filter was not tightened properly. No charge to fix that. Also had a cracked taillight lense. Got that ordered right then The part was high but the labor was very reasonable. I will go back to them for sure and would recommend them to anyone.
