I have been frequenting this Pio Pio for a little over a year multiple times per week. The food started out outstanding. The service even better. I'd like to say the food even got me through the first part of the pandemic when everything else was closed! The owner is a great guy and very good with customers. Recently he hasn't been around--as you would guess based upon my review this isn't good for this location. If he isn't there the food is either awful or unavailable they close early like 30-45 minutes early and lie about things being broken. I try to order food while there's a line of folks picking up and a huge amount guests eating on the patio only to be told they are closed at 7:30 might I add. This is not the first time this has happened when he wasn't present and presume not the last. Done with this place. read more

A solid 3 and 1/2 stars. I enjoyed my visit to this restaurant. I believe this place does serve authentic Peruvian food. We tried the ceviche (with flounder) you can pick from flounder, mahi-mahi or tilapia. The Leche de Tigre was really fresh and citrusy, but I didn't feel it had enough heat to it, even though it was suppose to be spicy. Previously I've had ceviche where the fish is really thinly cut, but here they cut it up quite big, I also wasn't use to their large portion size, I would normally have ceviche as a starter, a few mouthfuls, here they give you lots, like an entree size, but maybe that's how they serve it in Peru. They serve it with a slice of sweet potatoe which is flavored with cinnamon and tastes wonderful, and Peruvian corn, which has a unique sweet flavor. We also had another entree with fried fish (tilapia), shrimp and calamari, this dish was served with yukka (which tasted a bit old) and the traditional green and yellow Peruvian sauces, really enjoyed the green sauce (aji Verdi), tasted very fresh and flavorful, I think they added mint to theirs, with a good kick of heat to it. I wouldn't order this dish again, but am keen to try other items on their menu. We also shared a tres leches which tasted really fresh and not too sweet. This looks like a family business, the older women serving us, was friendly and knowledgeable, the younger female servers were not too friendly, and one was a tad grumpy. Would definitely like to come back to try some more dishes if we're in the area. P.S. Don't use the kids high chairs!!! both their kids high chairs are broken and not safe to use, one was totally unusable as no middle belt, your child would simply slide down, and the other had its middle belt heavily stapled together. read more

I have been to this little gem a couple of times since I discovered it not long ago. I haven't been disappointed once. From the appetizers , starting with Papa a la Huancaina, Leche de Tigre, Anticuchos to the entrees like Lomo Saltado, Arroz Chaufa, Picante de Camarones to the ceviche de Lenguado, Tilapia o Camarones they were all delicious. I was there on Sunday and my son ordered the Tallarines Verdes and that Pesto Sauce was the best I've had in a long long time, it took me right back to my childhood, just like they made it at home back in Peru. It reminded me of my Amoicito, my grandmother and more so when the owner Danny said it was his grandmother's recipe, I can tell it was made with love. I wish there were negative stars to give. I have now been there three times. The first time the food was terrible but they just opened so that's normal. The second time I went I had the rotisserie chicken and it was pretty good. The third time I went, last Monday, I got the burrito bowl and it gave me food poisoning. I haven't been that sick in years. I talked to another friend of mine in Great Falls and he said that he has at least 5 buddies that had the same experience recently. I called the Fairfax County Health Department and reported Pio Pio Tummy Hurtings. I also gave my buddy the number to the HD so that his friends can call and report them as well. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!! It's so sad because there is one of these places over in Reston next to the Home Depot that is to die for. They have three giant rotisseries that fire up early and that amazing smell permeates the parking lot which brings me in every time. If you want rotisserie chicken then go to Boston Market in Sterling or Pollo Peru in Reston. If you don't want to escape the inside of your bathroom for 48 hours, then try this place. read more

THIS place is TO DIE FOR! I used to come here when it was "Pio Pio Pollo" but I believe there was a change in ownership and I noticed the menu also changed a bit, along with the recipes. Lets just say the food taste SOOOOO much better and is WAY more authentic. The chicken has sooooo much flavor and has such a unique, exquisite taste you pretty much feel like you re in PERU! The staff is so welcoming and accommodating. They definitely seem like they put in a lot of effort to make the food the best it can be. Had lunch here. The ribs, rice, & plantains were one dish & the arroz chaufa with chicken was the other. We both liked the first dish, but we both loved the arroz chaufa with chicken! This as the noisiest restaurant I have visited in many years, with constant slamming and banging of things in the kitchen. The front door slammed often. So noisy, when one of our party ordered chicken, the waiter acknowledged steak, customer said no, chicken, and after a long wait, received steak, which was sent back to get chicken, and another long wait. We have never eaten Peruvian food before today. And I'm so glad that we decided to! My husband and I split a large lomo saltado (tacu tacu style w/chicken), 2 kids split a chicken burrito, and 1 kid had a chicken quesadilla. We also got a side of fried plantains. I went there with my family after around 1.15pm on a business day. They were pretty much out of everything. We were lucky enough that they didn't turn down our ceviche order. When I asked for two cups of coffee after we were done eating, they told me that they were out of it too. Out of coffee? Seems like someone was just too lazy to make some new one. The ceviche was very good, but had better before. It is overpriced for a self service almost like fast food style restaurant. I paid almost the same downtown DC in a restaurant with waiters.
